Android 6.0.1 released.. Hope we get it - ZenFone 2 General

Read on redmondpie
I seen it includes redesigned navigation bar, new emojis and security patches..
Hope Asus works off the latest build and we don't get stuck with just 6.0
Also wondering if this release will delay the release of 6 for our zen2s

Depends how far off 6.0.0 is, if it's like 2 months off I doubt we'll get 6.0.1.

asus provides us with security patches regardless of the version, and the nav bar tweaks are for tablets. So basically it's just the emojis. won't be much of a difference if we get one or another

Poll: Your Android Update Preferences LG G3

By owning a flagship android device, we always want the latest and greatest software available for this device, but there are only limited number of software engineers that work on android updates for LG flagship devices (around 300-400 engineers) depending on region, so they are not able to provide the users with all the minor android updates Google decides to release. Therefore, they turn their attention on major updates, instead of minor ones to keep their user base happy. Keep in mind that LG honors your device eligibility for upgrade to 24-27 months before dropping support and that we can't always get what we want.
My question to you is... If LG was reconstructing their plans for android updates, which one do you prefer?
1) You want all the minor android updates that Google releases to be released for your LG G3 and receive major ones later.
2) You want faster release of major android updates to the most current version.
To clarify: Choice 1 gives you more frequent small updates and Choice 2 gives you less frequent, but large updates. When your device approaches the support-end date, choice 1 will be one major update behind choice 2 because engineers working on every android updates and won't be able to release the major one in time.
This is a really hard one to call. Recently I received the 20f update from 20e on my D855. It was only a 12mb google patch but didn't change the android version the phone was on, in fact I don't know what it changed! Obviously it fixed or improved something but it would be nice to know what!
I think it is a matter of priority, if we receive a major update, for example going from 5.0 to 5.1.0, which not only has performance improvements but cosmetic and feature additions then I would like to receive this type of update as soon as possible helping my device stay at the cutting edge.
But if this update breaks something... like my wifi becoming unstable or system programmes force closing all the time, I would expect that to become the priority no matter how small the patch update may be!
So to reiterate, my first choice would be option 2 bringing in a touch of option 1 if required!

I have to agree with you. I wish there was a happy medium between the two.

Marshmallow ?

Will there be a official release for android Marshmallow for TN7 ?
Are you sure you want one?
I suppose it would be nice to get something beyond the slightly glitchy 5.1 they released. But 6.0 isn't exactly bug free.
Would be happy if they release a patch for glitchy 5.1. Sent several tweets to nvidia, tegra and someother regarding this. Lets hope for the best.
The Shield Portable people are stuck with a poor Lollipop build too. I think NV is done supporting the Tegra 4 hardware.
They are having enough trouble making MM work properly on the Shield Tablet. The first release had lots of problems. Last week they pushed another update but then pulled it because it was breaking wifi for many people. Ugly stuff. But other people claim it is solid. So who knows. Heh.
Don't know about the official builds but shaky is already working on a custom marshmellow
No developer interested in this device?
I am a noob, but would have loved to see marshmallow or nougat on this device.

Android 7.0 source code released

Android 7.0 source code released. Much quicker than I thought.

According to android police the final build of Nougat is based off the Marshmallow dev preview 2. So maybe this will help in bringing it to our devices faster

Unless I'm misunderstanding, I'm pretty sure you mean the final Nougat build is based on Android N dev preview 2? Wasn't named Nougat back then (April 2016, when N preview was released), and Marshmallow dev preview 2 would have been a year ago (2015).
By the way, do you have a link to that story, because it sounds strange even that it's based on N preview 2, with 5 previews released. I'm pretty sure they did NOT revert any improvements. Preview 2 had the greatest speed improvements but the others after that had other areas of improvement, like stability.
Dev Preview 5 features include system images for preview devices, an emulator for app testing, final level 24 Nougat APIs (also available in Preview 4), plus bug fixes and optimizations

Seems more likely it was based on the final preview, Nougat Preview 5? Here's an article detailing all the preview builds and improvements...
Android 7.0 Nougat: release date, news and features
UPDATE: Nougat released for Nexus devices

Its based on M preview 2. The full article can be seen here

It really makes a lot of sense. Its a major release of android, however the changes made are improved upon marshmallow source code, and even lollipop. N development started over a year ago, and even today there are devices running test builds of 7.1 and even "O" at google

Thanks. Interesting.

Stable ROM that still has newer security patches? How important is that?

I'm currently using the Android 9 OminROM on my X Compact. It's updated pretty frequently but so far I'm still frustrated by some bugs and general instability. I'd prefer to use a more stable ROM, because I don't need the latest features, but the only just basic AOSP ROM I see here was last updated more than a year ago.
I'd like to use something more stable but I worry about not having the latest security patches and getting my device compromised - is this a legitimate fear? I do have a desire for some security on my phone.
Are there any ROMs that can just provide a reliable Android experience while staying up to date on important patches?
I am not a developer but I think I can say that to find what you look for, you have to find someone who thinks like you there are constantly new commits. Sometimes they can broke working parts or cause regressions. What you ask requires to pick some commits while avoiding others which is hard to do constantly.

Android 10 AOSP beta Official Stock Update Queries

So the Android 10 beta has been out for a while. I was browsing through it and I still haven't updated to the beta version since I heard it was very buggy and unstable. However, I am very eager to try the new beta version (released:23/09/2020) since it boasts of lesser bugs and most importantly it says that we can use GPay.
However I am a big UI fan and was wanting to know what features have they released in this update. Most importantly
have they released the new navigation bar?
Also what other bugs should I expect?
Can I use it as my daily driver after updating?
All in all, should I even consider updating since I love stability I use my phone for a lot for my job and everything.
What should I expect if I update?
What is the SOT?
How heated does it get?
Thanks in advance!
