Pre-Purchase Questions - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have an S6 and want to switch to the 6P. I thought I could handle TouchWiz, but I was wrong.
1. I want to buy from GetHuawei to avoid taxes, but I know shipping was taking forever with them. Is this still a problem? Should I just go through Google and pay the extra $40 in taxes?
2. I have a Spigen Rugged Armor on my S6 and I love it. However, I read the Spigen Rugged Armor for 6P was denting the metal? This was just a response on reddit, but is anybody else experiencing this?
3. Should I get the IntelliArmor tempered glass that works with cases if I get the Spigen Rugged Armor? Or are there better screen protectors out there?
4. Where should I sell my S6 to get the most money? I see them going for around $350 on Swappa, but would eBay or Craigslist maybe yield better results?
Thank you!

Maybe try www.gazelle.com to see what they will give you for it. If not then Craigslist or Ebay will allow you to set what you want and see what takers you get and adjust as required.

I bought mine from Google and got it pretty fast. As far as selling your S6 I would personally go with EBay. I've sold numerous phones there so I could upgrade and I've always got my money back out of them or fairly close. I'm not sure about the screen protectors. I've read that a lot of people are having issues with them. I normally buy one but so far this is the first device that I haven't. So far so good and it had been dropped a few times.

Buy from Google and get Nexus Protect or make sure you buy Square Trade.
Getting a broken phone fixed without either will be almost impossible.

1. I'd just but through Google.
2. I have the Spigen Rugged Armor case and haven't had any issues at all.
3. This is really a matter of opinion. You'll find a thread discussing TGSP's in the Accessories section.
4. EBay has the most exposure, probably the best place to sell.

I probably will buy through Google, even though it'll cost $40 more. At least I'll have Google support and shipping speed! I have never sold on eBay before, are there many risks for the sellers? Thank you!

Why will it be impossible? I did not plan on getting Nexus Protect because I have never broken my phone, but I would like to have the option of repair in case something did happen.

There are some risks involved, if you encounter someone dodgy. But I wouldn't think they would be any more likely than if you sold anywhere else. Swappa is great in the sense that it's selling specific items, and therefore attracts a specific audience.

Best buy insurance.

It has been about 20 days. Has anyone got an opinion on whether I should go back and add the insurance for 100? I am in Canada, so it isn't a quick trip.
I'm actually seeing some hard spots that look like dirt on the screen but I suspect the are the coating wearing off.
Seems this is fixed in newer versions of the phone.
Any thoughts on extended warranty and/or the screen?

Check SquareTrade.com see if they offer warranty service to Canada. It's cheaper and better than in store warranties.

I dont recommended the Best Buy insurance, maybe its just but ive had nightmares when it comes to filing a warranty claim with them, They just try and give you the run around
How much is the Best Buy insurance? They didn't offer it to me, and I probably would have said no, but I see people say $99/$100 even though checking the Best Buy website just now shows it at $169 for 2 years. That's an awful lot for a insurance that doesn't cover loss/theft.

It's legit. They reimubursed me full retail value for a water damaged iphone. I could tell they didnt want to and tried to be shady about it but at the time the way their contract was worded they had no choice.
I didnt take it personally because I only paid like $50 for the contract and for them to pay $600 out on a device that cost me $200 out of pocket surely annoyed them.
Well when I looked at it, the only difference between the two plans is that the BB plan doesn't specifically state they insure full immersion in liquid where Square Trade does. Drop your Nexus in the ocean then your effed on the BB plan, but not on Square's.
As far as the pricing, it is $9.99 a month and you can only add it within the first 30 days (same as SquareTrade). So the Best Buy model is basically double, however you do have the flexibility to stop paying BB if for instance you buy another phone at any time where as if you use SquareTrade you've already paid for all of your two years regardless of how long you own or wish to protect that specific phone.
I chose the Best Buy Black Tie simply based upon convenience of getting a new phone quicker, though I'm not certain how that works, it just appears to me that it would/could be same day?
Also apparently you can do the Black Tie protection online as well so that's a possibility for the OP specifically.

So they gave you a really hard time? My phone isnt past its 30 days but I have a dim back button and compared to my best friends wife's phone, the screen is really gray and banded. Also the platinum case scratched it and either way I want to replace it. I have the black tie protection and paid close to six hundred for the phone and 35 for the scratchy case and another 30 for the invisible shield. It sucks that I want to repalce the phone yet again but for the 700 I've shelled out on this thing, it should at least be perfect from the start.

The other stuff, yeah, exchange the phone for a bad backlit button or wonky display, but I don't get the platinum case thing. That's your fault, or the case maker's, not Samsung's.
You purchased a 3rd party case which was poorly designed and it damaged your phone's back and think that Samsung/Best Buy are to blame and should have to replace your phone for it?
Isn't that a bit like saying that if you bought a Ford, then slapped on an aftermarket strap-on luggage rack or bike carrier that scratched the paint that Ford should have to let you exchange the car? An extreme example, but the same concept.
Sounds kind of outrageous, doesn't it?
Unless of course scratches on the battery plate are covered as a repairable item under your black tie warranty, which I doubt.
The case has scratched the bezel so that's not easily repaired I wouldn't think.
Also, I agree its not Sammy's fault for the scratches but the other stuff yes. Also, the phone is sold exclusively by best buy and the case is best buys line of cases, the only one out until now. I wouldn't feel bad at all using the all inclusive (minus loss or theft) black tie thing that I pay for. If they won't let you even use it that's just free money for them and makes it a scam.

Yeah, if the extended warranty covers stuff like scratches, go for it. Those warranties are almost 100% profit for the seller.
OK, kudos to best buy. They have been awesome to me with the n's, especially with what so.e might think is paranoia. After the case scratches and banding I exchanged mybphone for another. They didn't hassle me at all and after everything I would surely buy from them again. They were great. Unfortunately even though best buy online said they were tmo vendor, they are not. The last phone they had didn't have the creased glass, so I took it. Seems like my last phone was a gem. This one seems more washed out but im tired of fighting. After all the wrangling. It seems there's no such thing as a perfect phone, at least after my g1. A lot of the problems can be blamed on the rush to get gingerbread out for this phone.

I went to exchange mine after seeing the crease in the glass isnt supposed to be there, of the 24 devices my local store had, every one had it.

Well I have to hand it to best buy mobile. Not to rag on the parent company but the mobile employees are a cut above normal best buy. Even the ones in the store are a separate entity like magnolia. Since my last post I have returned my phone two more times. The dim back button led to a new one with a dead pixel. The only problem I had was that they claimed that its one replacement per 30 day period. They still helped me out and got me a new one. They seem to genuinely care and gave excellent customer service, even with a picky person like myself.
Unfortunately this store had an entire batch of creased glass screens. I took one anyway as I had to drive a long way to find one that activated tmo. I did this because the other ones in the area were the ones with min availability. They also told me that the ones they had at the place I got mine were their second batch of phones which made me believe they would be less problematic. This one seems OK but the keyboard is acting strange. Its been less than 24hours since I put on my ghost armor so hopefully the sensitivity is just temporarily affected. My last one had the zagg one which was much thicker and had no sensitivity problems so I'm optimistic that this one will clear up.
I also learned that you need to ensure that the place you do an exchange with needs to correctly transfer your black tie protection if you do an in store 30 day exchange. I learned mine was still pegged to my very first one and they had to call up geek squad and fix the problem so that if I did use the warranty that I could actually make a claim.
Has anyone else been told that you can only do one exchange?

Pre-ordered, received, loved, 5 days, corner drop

Hi to that love the GSIII,
Got my on Friday, I could not find a case I liked so I started shopping around.
Today at lunch, the phone took a 30" drop from a table, the display is going bad.
Any "constructive" ideas that might help me out?
Kind Regards,
Jim

:crying:
If there's no noticeable physical damage int he corner you could probably send it in as a defect. And why on earth you not put at least a case on the damn thing, regardless of looks. I almost want to tell you that you deserve it.
Ya think Ill definately get the Insurance.
Try returning it to wherever you got it from and hope they accept it
Otherwise you can pay Samsung to fix it for you or order parts an DIY
Do you have insurance? If so then they may give you one with a deductible fee
I am very disappointed by the s3 build quality, why couldn't they design a durable phone like s2

Poor guy. Well, the obvious is that this is a case of cracked LCD. However, my next question would be where did you buy it? If you opted in for Best Buy's Black Tie, you could get that repaired/replaced at no charge (with the exception of your monthly payment you pay). If not, Asurion will charge $125 deductible.. or the service centers are $99 last time I looked (I've been out of the repair game a few months).
If the crack isn't evident (because it is har dot tell in the image) where you can see the crack of the LCD (not the glass of the digitizer, as that appears to be fine) but the spider web effect of the LCD... the store might unknowingly exchange it. Personally, I'd be honest with them. I had a defective EvoLTE that I was waiting to swap when three days before S3 release I dropped it and cracked the corner of the digitizer. Best Buy was kind enough to exchange me anyway, simply because I spoke up and said what happened.
Best of luck to you!
Actually most places will still let you add on the insurance since its still under the 30 day window. Just wait it out a few days and then see about getting it fixed.
Did you cry yourself to sleep that night?
Ouch... I'd probably be depressed if I was you lol. But hopefully you'll get a replacement. Good luck

best bet claim insurance, 199 deductible(assuming since s2 variants are still 199)
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/en_US/pdf/wireless-phone-insurance-deductible-schedule.pdf
Thanks to all these I dropped my S3 threads that are starting to popup I got a 30% off coupon at square trade and bought a ADH warranty.
The problem is that the att stores do not have them and you will have to ship it off I believe. In any event, a hassle. For those of you that get your phone go to ATT or wherever and slap a case on it You have 30 days on the case also. So what if it is not your ultimate case. Protect the phone! It is slippery!
I have mine in a TPU case (8 bucks) and a neoprene sleeve I've had for a while.

Galaxy S4 Screen breakage - Should I avoid the S4?

I was planning on buying an unlocked S4 (for $379, Instead of going with AT&T NEXT installment plan and paying more over 24 months)
However I read about all the screen/glass cracking issues. Is a risk even if I put a good screen protector & case like otter-box commuter?
The store B&H also offers Squaretrade drop & spill warrant for $49 with $50 deductible. But if breakage is a very common issue, I don't want to buy the S4.
(Also what other phones comparable to the S4 would y'all recommend. For use on AT&T). Only android and should have a good camera.
Thx

The Screen of my S4 only broke once and trust me, every other phone's Screen would've cracked in the same situation mine got destroyed. What I want to add is: After replacing the cracked screen by myself I'm even more amazed by the S4. If your screen cracks you can buy a new one and replace the screen by yourself. It is super easy.

Did anyone else get to order one today and didnt get a chance to order a case with it

I forgot and when I went back to order a case they were all sold out. If you are in my shoes, how to protect your OP5 until cases come out or in stock? I'm sure it comes with a preinstalled screen protector at least, maybe leave the plastic on the back? All ideas are welcome
i had the welcome package in my cart but it said out of stock. I checked out and it only charged me for the phone. I figured it would just charge me later when it was back in stock (it was $60 cheaper than it shows now). It only shows I ordered a phone
I'm looking for a case but not having luck. I guess I'm just going to be extra cautious

I've used them on several devices. They usually don't provide a lip for the camera lenses. I lay my phones down on a soft surface so scratching is not an issue. When I placed the order it said that they were in stock so I'm just assuming. I'll keep you updated

I had an otterbox with my old motorola defy for years. i ordered yesterday the oneplus but screenprotector and case from otterbox was out of stock. So i ordered the otterbox at otterbox.de . This shop has an option for country selection.
But i still need the screenprotector. The lack of cases and screenprotectors are a pitty btw.

The OnePlus 5 comes with a factory preinstalled screen protector, check the "What in the box?" section of the OP5 specifications web page. I have an inexpensive ($9USD) Catman soft back cover with gold trim ordered but it won't arrive in time for my phone so I likely leave the back protection strip on the phone and baby it for a while. The price is cheap enough that I may buy something else if more desirable covers become available and in stock before it arrives. These cases are actually clear except for various top and bottom trim colors and accents around the camera, flash and side button holes. Some of the pre-launch "leaked" OP5 pictures showed these cases.
I kept refreshing and trying again. I eventually got the welcome package too

I ordered the 8/128 with the carbon bumber case. I see a ship date of today but I did hit the cancel button last night but it doesn't do anything. No confirmation no sorry your order can't be cancelled. Oh well at this point if it comes it comes. To be honest I'm just not impressed with it and don't think I'll be able to ditch my S8. The overwhelming thing I like about Oneplus is the community but it is summer now and I don't have as much time to root and play with my toy, lol. If it comes I'll take it for a test ride and see how I like it. Maybe keep it as a spare but the Essential is also coming as well as the Pixel 2 by LG which I have a feeling will have a little G6 heritage.

Very interesting, probably made in the same factory. Only crappy thing about ordering stuff from alibaba is sometimes the shipping is on a very very slow boat from China

It is, just confirmed with whitestone.. Apparently they have a patent on it... So someone might be in trouble? I doubt it tho.. I mean. China stole stealth tech from the US and.nothing happened lol
Would be interested
Yes defo interested. Even this is cheaper than Whitedome. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/For...rotector-with-Install-Kit-UV/32848566938.html
Been in contact with the seller, whitestone can't sue them one bit lol... they are not selling in US or through a US resell channel. Their glue is also "patented" so I will see how good it is after I get my first one.
Did you order yet? I am interested as well. I am in NY.
There are other sellers on alibaba which are selling the same thing, I have asked a few of them if they can ship 1 or 2 items instead of 10 as samples or something, lets see if this will work or not.
Purchased and received my dome protector today, just installed it with no problems. Im a First time user and I'm surprised how easy it went. I carnt see how they justify the price tho. And surely they could at least sell just the glass and liquid for a good price as a replacement kit is still expensive.

Whitestone has sold it for so much because no one else has had it - with the knock off coming out of china now, well, Whitetone may have to come down in price to remain competitive - I guess it all depends on the quality of the new one - and whether Whitestone does have a claim for patent infringement and even if they do if they can really do anything about it. They wouldn't be the first ones to have their product ripped off and sold cheap out of China - happens all the time - Personally, I won't buy products like that. Just on Principle. (look at the ad on Alibaba from the link that was posted - it looks exactly like the Whitestone Dome Glass.
