No UK Android Pay - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got the 6p and saw in the settings tap and pay and got excited . However I tried to find Android pay and couldn't so then checked on the playstore and it not there for me (UK). Found a link to it off a YouTube video and it says that it is not available for my country
Anybody know when it will come out or possible way to work around the issue.

Google have released absolutely nothing on it, and I cant find any alternative method either except bPay for barclays users.

I think this is partly because nearly everybody has a contactless card in the UK, it's not going to be a pressing issue for most users, and I don't think too many people use Apple Pay over here either

HTC EVO 4G works in China(Shanghai Guide + Help)

I posted a few weeks ago about if or not the EVO 4G would work in China since CDMA has migrated over to UIM cards since 2002 and as well all know the EVO does not have a UIM card.
First of all the company that will provide service is China Telecom, unfortunately they do not offer the service, they dont even acknowledge it even being possible and most workers that you talk to have no idea what your talking about.
I brought this phone back from the USA on August 2nd and started my quest to figure out how to activate it. I must say it took a long time to find someone who would even try to ask around to see if the phone could be activated, even being at the infamous black cellphone market in Shanghai(Near the Tian Mu Lu Train station). I was rejected many times even after they spent an hour or so asking around for me. I gave up that day but finally found someone on the internet selling the HTC EVO 4G with a valid Chinese ESN to link to a phone number. (Tian Mu Lu 188 Floor 6 #54)
Now the phone number you have to get yourself under contract from China Telecom, now for this you need a local ID or to be a landowner and avid Chinese speaker like me. This requires a 128K CDMA number 133/153/189 although China Telecom told me that only 189 exists at this time. The contracts are unbinding or atleast they where for me and I paid 139RMB for 2GB and 200 minutes.
You then take this number to them and they link it to your phone, through their internal China Telecom connection's.
This service all in all costs you about 2 hours of time on average and 400rmb.
Honestly since China Telecom doesnt provide this service or even say they can do it, I think it was a bargain and a miracle that you could backdoor this service.
Anyways if anyone has any problems or issues in Shanghai or in China I can help you just contact me through these forums, email([email protected]) or (+86)18964688482.
I also found people that do this service in Shenzhen but not sure where else.

Next time I'm in China and want to illegally obtain phone service, I know who to go to...
i won't have a use for this anytime soon (unfortunately), but epic win sir. well done!
Well I have noticed some people posting on the web about this issue but figure this is the place to bring them as I have found so much help over the years in so many different forms.
Hope google search leads them here.
The funny thing is, its not illegal as it is done through China Telecom just not offered as a service on any of their websites or walk in phone/internet boutiques or offices. The words my new friend used where "They where not willing to offer the service to the public".
I encountered this same issue with the Chinese kind of VPN service called Guo Ji Jing Ping Wang, which is basically a rerouting of internet traffic through less congested nodes so that you dont have packet loss and have better bandwidth with your area of choice(for example 160-200 pings for the west coast US with 0 packetloss and 240-260 for East Coast also with 0 packetloss). This existed about 5-6 years ago but was not offered to the public till 2008 or so. If I had not walked in and talked to the manager of the office and forced them to offer me something so I could receive large emails properly or game or stream videos etc.
Guess its kinda like the Great Firewall of China which is basically wide but not high especially using modern technology or even not so modern technology like a ladder(lol), since you can easily navigate around it with a proxy or vpn and no one cares here.
Anyways if anyone needs help in China for anything I can help. (15 year veteran)
sweet. I actually do need to find local Shanghai police to report some international business fraud I embarassingly fell victim to.

The guy's name is Zhang Tuan. It's a long story but it's a "Gold Supplier" on Alibaba and I obviously didn't get anything - I have had over 30 positive transactions with other vendors.

I was also looking at this company and thinking of doing business with them until I found your posting and I did some research and they go under the company name Newtang (Shanghai) Trading Company. Have you ever received your shipment?
no, nothing yet.
I paid on July 30 and it's well Aug 19.
In fact, one of the products I was inquiring about is Korean made and the manufacturer told me it's not going to be on the market at earliest late Holiday season and this company is claiming to sell it already (and I fell for it). DOH!
I will def holler if I ever do get this. I have the crew digging around more though - here in the US and China.
SOMETHING apparently did ship but I know for a fact it has not left China according to the shoddy shipping method. I mean it could be a brick for all I know or just a shipping label. I do not put anything past the whole lot of em over there now. I just do not see any possible way China can be a true economic power with rampant knock offs and fraud.
(sorry for hijacking your thread btw)
I mean maybe in some ridiculous way they did send something but it's not the shipping method I agreed to nor paid for and I refuse to take a fall for this so I'm trying to be pro-active.
Now of course if I do get what I ordered and it really did just LAG I will eat my words give them nothing but praise and for being nothing more than lame in admin as far as shipping method. But for now with all the stuff I've read about them and other companies in general - i am more than skeptical
HTC EVO 4G in Guangzhou
Today I had my struggle in China/ Guangzhou to get my newly delivered Htc Evo 4g working. Initially I thought i could get my card from China mobile ported to a 3G number and use it, but in 4+ shops they didnt want to help me or were not able to. They didnt even bother to ask around or something. And its not the language, since my chinese is actually pretty much ok and they understood what i wanted.
Anyways. Many thanks to " Inti " for the tip trying it with China Telecom! The whole procedure took me only 20 minutes. I opened a new 3g card, put it in my phone and it work. Not even a need for them to enter a ESN / Muid or anything to their system. The best! It didnt cost me a penny or yuan!
The basic choices i had were between to schemes. One 49RMB per month and another one with 98RMB/month. Meaning 100/200 free minutes of talking and 250MB/500MB of traffic. The money can be charged by normal charging cards from the street, even be wired to their account or they can take it from yours. You can pay locally in the shop too of course.
If you would want to use your card outside China, which happens to me already when im going to HongKong you would have to put a deposit of 1400RMB one time. Now your 3G will work all over the world until these 1400RMB are used up.
To me its a pretty good deal and i hope it will help someone like i got help many times from this forum.
As a bit of a followup..
I got mine in Tianjin and paid rmb3500 for phone then it cost the 400 for them to register it to the network the number you brought to the phone..
I use a company account and so its not illegal to do..also I get access to my own account via the web and pay the bill..
if you do a search on Taobao you will find its the norm now.. plenty of people doing it..
瑞姆手机HTC EVO 4G(A9292)CDMA 可写号/完美插卡机 最新2.2系统
as to plans.. I am using the Rmb125 per month with 3gig then I pay another rmb100 for another 3 gig.. so basically until I settle down with my usage I beefed it up.. but it is still on approx$40 per month for a whole lot of usage..
I have used it in Shanghai, Tianjin, Shangdong, and last week up in Changchan with good coverage.. plugging it in to the laptop and using it for good fast internet..
So I hope this helps if someone is thinking of getting one..
I also picked up the extended battery and are so far happy with output on it..
its at 46% after 16 hours of being on.. and I have used it for about 4 hours of wireless tonight.. so got to be happy with that..
I'll post back on the brand of battery I ended buying out of Shenzhen..
its the YooBao..

Cover fits well.. and I got a cutout outta cover on it.. so all in all.. happy camper.. will revisit this thread in a few months and report back on batt.. but for these prices.. who cares.. if I get 12 months mileage out of it.. I will be happy..

MMS in China
Dear good people.
Having my evo on china telecom now for a day and so happy. Here just a few hints that i could have used and also one problem still persists with my mobile.
Of the first sms's i sent out i had only a few going through and some ending up with error codes. After a while i found out that the numbers have to be without any non-numeric symbols. for example number with +8613xxxxxxxxx wont work because of the Plus-sign. It has to be 008613xxxxxxxx or without the country code 13xxxxxxxxx. Also numbers with the "-" inside wont work like xxxx-xxxx-xx-xx.
Then i recieved an MMS but couldnt download it. And I also cant send any. That is unfortunately not depending on the number scheme, I tried everything.
Anyone has the same problem out there in China? My phone is using the standard root spring rom 2.2 .
Would be cool if anyone with working MMS could type in ##3282# ,go to "view-mode" and post all the settings you got.
cheers in advance and help needed...
Even if you had the settings from sprint, you'd still need to adjust them to the carrier ib China to make MMS work over there...

mms in china with china telecom
That is why im asking if someone has MMS working in China with Evo and China Telecom? If so if that person could please post the settings.
The settings from Sprint I have myself which obviously dont work unfortunately.
It's not that im using MMS frequently but it kind of annoys me that it doesnt work up to now. All the rest is working fine with my evo and I love to use it.
The standard settings for GSM/CDMA from China telecom are the following, also confirmed by the hotline, but I actually think they didnt quiet get me when i told them i have a CDMA phone 'only'.
MMS Server URL: mmsc.vnet.mobi
HTTP Server : 10.0.0.200:80
I put in those things in through ##3282# and edit mode. Tried leaving the RTSP Server blank/on zero and other combinations. Couldnt get anything to work. Always get network failure or some other warnings for sending and downloading MMS.
My hope is that someone is out there with Evo + China Telecom + working MMS and if that someone could post the settings?

Sunny,
Mine is set as follows..
MMSC -http://mmsc.vnet.mobi
MMS: proxy : 10.0.0.200
MMS port: 80
MMS protocol: wap 2.0
hope this helps..
Thanks a lot for the help, I appreciate, but where can you set the mms protocol on your evo? I don't have anything like that. Are you using the standard sprint rom like me in version 2.2 ? The settings you posted I found on the net as well but somehow it seems more for gsm phones.
On my evo I have no chance to get to mms settings but typing in ##3282# and then to go to view/edit mode.
sunny,
I am not going to be much help.. as just tested it..
can send a pic via email.. but not via mms.. as it is failing..
as to the settings.. I can see them from within the htc message program..
just go into the settings and you will see them all.. in mine they are greyed out..
so... i dont know if you can change them anyway..
I dont use the phone for mms anyway.. so not too much of a worry for me..
good luck with it..

Have you tried changing the app MMS.apk to the incredible one and adding an APN? You can set many things there.. Hope this helps. (Use VOICE DIALER and say "OPEN APNS" to open the APN list)
Evo in China
@ dgcruzing: Thanks for trying anyway!
@ m4f1050: Thanks as well. That seems to be a step in the right direction. At least i can get now to the APN settings on my evo.
For the moment Im trying different combinations of Mms.apk and APN settings. All dont work so far but will keep trying and keep everyone posted here.
cheers
Good luck and keep us updated!

Yes..keep us posted as if you crack it I will try your system to try to get mine going..

"force Close of com.google.process.gapps"
Had same problems.. started last night when I tried to use my VPN on the phone to sign in to Market.. once signed in.. google accounts asked me to sign in again..(verify account) big mistake.. as it seems that it has registered me twice on the phone somehow..
anyway.. the FC on sync came thick and fast.. was out last night.. so couldn't actually take the time to check what was going on..
today did some research..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792691&page=4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619453
so the question is.. if i do a hard reset.. will I lose the actually settings that make it hook in to the phone network?
and I suppose from this we get.. how do I pull all of these settings out of the phone to reuse them again after the reset?
Edit:
As a followup.. and to answer my own questions.. no loss of actual communication on a full install of a new Rom..
after searching the net for the last few days for a fix.. its seems to be a Android bug.. no amount of wipes and resets put me back on track..
So in the end I went for a fresh Rom...

also update the Kernel with..
netarchy-toastmod-4.2.1-cfs-bfq-havs-more-smartass-universal-signed
Happy to say.. all fixed and now looking good again..
main points out of this is..
1: as those of us in China that have brought a Evo and had it worked on here to hook in to the CDMA network.. and are rooted.. I can report.. you can upgrade your Rom..
2: upgrading the Rom will allow you to shift a lot of Programs off the Phone to SDcard.. with Apps2SD which most 2.2 Roms have as norm..
3: you get a new look and feel to the phone..
I did as the instructions said and installed the Rom and new Radio's and all working well..

UK - Barclaycard mobile payments & Nexus 6P

Have any UK members got Barlaycard mobile payments setup on their 6P ?
If so, any gotchas I should know about?
I recently got a plat barclaycard to use for mobile payments, but I've been unable to get the bugger to work.
It activates the app when placed unlocked on a terminal, but the the transaction never gets approved. If it's using a POS terminal that issues declined receipts I do see the correct virtual cardno quoted (i.e not the actual card number, but the one Barclays refer to as the number used for TFL journey tracking). This suggests to me that the basic NFC communications between phone and terminal is working okay.
My gut feel is that there's something not quite right in my account setup, but trying to find anyone in first line support at Barclays that has a clue about this is an exercise in futility.
I had similar grief setting up Vodafone pay with my S4, but one it was enabled correctly it was as solid as a rock. Hopefully once I get over this initial hurdle the 6P will be the same.
I just received a text from Barclays apologising for any problems I was having with with mobile contactless and that it should work now.
And surprisingly, it does! So if anyone else was having problems, it's worth another try.

Samsung Pay

Hey,
I've bought Samsung S8 in Germany, O2 network. I was looking forward for Samsung Pay , but when I enter in the Google store or even Samsung store it says my country don't support the app. I have friends using Samsung Pay in another cellphones... I've downloaded an apk and installed Samsung Pay and it says "can't read the sim" and then can't connect to server... Anyone knows how to use Samsung Pay bypassing all these problems?
Thanks in advance

In germany? If so then it's probably to a specific bank, not all banks/cards are supported.

My bank support it because I have an Irish bank. But the thing is that I can't even open Samsung Pay on the cellphone... That's the problem, it came without it and after downloading the apk it doesn't connect to the server... Same with android pay, I download android pay( the apk because I can't from the play store - doesn't even appear after searching for it) then every time I want to open it it just force closes... =(. I was using my S7 using Samsung and android pay. =(
That's strange then, maybe Samsung disabled it on phones bought from o2 for some reason. Was your s7 also from o2 or was it unbranded? Samsung disables/enables features all the time based on what carrier the phone is on, in north America we sometimes loose the mobile data and hotspot toggles, the camera sound are disabled and even one carrier disables the device maintenance section in settings because they have their own preinstalled.
My s8 had Samsung pay preinstalled but I still can't update it from the play store or Samsung store because it's not showing up.

Set restrictions on S8 similar to those found on iPhone?

I am going to be blunt...some friends of mine are having some issues in their marriage due to one of them having a porn addiction and also just using their phone too much so they came up with 5-10 apps they want to be able to use and don't want anything else to be usable including browsing the internet. Being their most tech savvy friend they turned to me for help.
He had an iPhone 6S Plus and it was very easy to set it up to lock down apps and even prevent web browsing even if he did manage to get a browser installed via Restrictions.
Unfortunately his phone recently died out of warranty and his wife had an old Galaxy S4 anyway so was due for a replacement. Their carrier (T-Mobile) had a special on Galaxy S8's for a buy one get one free so they ordered two of those to replace his non-working phone and her old one. (not relevant to the question, but I also have T-Mobile and took advantage of that deal too)
I have tried and tried to find a way to do those things they want on Android but am not having any luck. Most of the stuff I see for Restrictions on Android are for people wanting to put THEIR phone in like kid mode prior to handing it to their child. Other apps like Norton App Lock work for some apps but not all apps are listed and for example doesn't allow restricting the built in internet browser.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would download applock from the Google play store. Let's you lock apps and then a pin is needed to unlock. I use this one

NFC Google Pay Inconsistent

Anyone facing this problem? My google pay is inconsistent when on public transport and in retail stores.
Could it be software issue?
Can you type Oxygen version, root or no? And can you find in Google play settings certification of you device?

Also having problem with my NFC with public transport.
Never work for public transport before, but ok with retail payment
my is Oxygen OS 10.5.10.IN11AA, no root.
not sure if this is the Google Play Cert
Version 20.6.19-all [0] [PR] 316598174
OOS 10.5.10.IN11AA
Google Play Services Version 20.21.17
Google Pay Version 2.111.306
I tried toggling on the '' non standard NFC tag support '' in developers option. Doesnt work as well.
Many op8p users also faced the same problem in my country.
Tried re-adding my cards several times, cleared cache of google pay, google play services, google framework.
Downgrading app versions.
On public transport, my phone just vibrates and will prompt " does not work " or " move closer ". Never worked, receiver receive nothing.
In retail payment, it worked about 90% of the time with 10% requiring to tap twice.
I have similar issue.
- I use polish banking application that uses NFC for contactless payment.
- In retail payment, 90% of the time is successful, 10% requires to tap again.
- In vending machine almost every payment is rejected (I got 1 successful payment but I can't reproduce it again). I used same banking application on my xiaomi mi8 with same vending machine and worked good.
- I tried google pay and it doesn't work too (at least it shows some error on screen)
- no root, oxygenos 10.5.9.IN11BA
In conclusion it's not a problem with google pay but with nfc as other payment apps have same problem.
IIRC on the teardown video, the NFC chip is in behind the camera. It's maybe in too deep inside the phone for it to work correctly everytime.

Came looking to see if I was the only one with an NFC issue
Mine has been working perfectly since I got the phone, then yesterday I went to use it at a POS in a shop and it wouldn't work......move closer/slower etc. so I used my bank card itself.
I got the train and said I had low balance when I got off so went to top up my leap card (Irish transport card) and it fails the second it tried to read the card.
FYI I have sucessfully topped up my leap card dozens of times on the phone.
Next I went to get something to eat. I tried using it at the restaurant POS and worked first time, no problem.
Then this morning I just tried using it in shop POS and everytime it pinged and gave me a tick mark and showed the card as if it completed OK but the shop unit did not register anything (I also know the transaction did not go through as revolut did not show the transaction). I used my bank card and it worked.
I have just tried my leap card again and it is still not working.
This is very frustrating as I use NFC payment everywhere.
Anyone know if I can see logs for the NFC chip?
Why did it suddenly just stop working, I haven't had any updates.
Running Oxygen OS 10.5.12.IN11BA
Play services Version 20.33.14(120400-327249014)
Google Pay Version 2.116.328438545
Not had this problem before, could your case be the cause? Or anything else in your hand?
The range has impressed me with mine.
Currently rooted and using xXx and Gpay is still good.
It looks the oneplus 8 pro nfc chip is very weak. For me the strongest signal is under oneplus logo on the back. I found out the nfc chip is under the keypad at vending machine (not under display). Now to make it work I must keep my phone very closely to the terminal.
I need to get close on a number of NFC readers...no biggie.
