[GUIDE] Enable Notification LED for Moto G3 (for Charging status ONLY) - Moto G 2015 General

There is hidden white colored notification led in the upper speaker of the Moto G 2015. You can enable this feature just by installing an app from the play store. I have also attached the screenshots. However the usage of this led is limited, i.e you can only enable the light during charge states and not for notifications.
(Moreover there's another Tutorial by StrangerWeather, he uses Tasker app to use the led light for different type of notifications).
You Need
1. ROOTED Device
2. Moto LED for Moto X & E [Root] App from Play Store
Tutorial
1. Install the app from Play Store
2. Grant SuperSU permissions if prompted.
Cons :
1. The LED will only light up when the device is connected to a power source

Ok, but only notifications for charge state

it is already enabled in all custom roms by default and there is setting to disable it.

Maybe you can change the topic. It's not enabling any notification led, only the charge status led.

So, you think I should keep the thread's name as "Enable Charging Light"? I used that name because everyone know it as notification light.

Yeah.

I think is better "Enable notification Led as charging indicator" it's exactly that it does. But it's only suggestion

"Notifications on charge" and "notification for charge state" are 2 different things
With this app, you can't use led for sms, email, etc notifications. Clear ?
The only method to enable all led notification is to use Tasker, some plugins and a script (and allways when phone is plugged).
You can edit your post and hightlight this

You still have to be connected to an external power source for it to work, a huge negative even after going through all the hoops of setting it up... unless you phone is on the charger all day, this is probably not useful to most people.

Yes brother, that's the major drawback. Even though it won't be too useful for most people but it might be really helpful for those who just want to know the charging state of the device.

[REQ] Rear notification light (power button) for all notifications?

My apologies if this has already been discussed somewhere.
I would love to see that awesome power button notification light glow after receiving a text, whatsapp message, email, etc.
Interested in hearing users and devs thoughts on this.

Yeah, I don't get why they'd go through all the work and cost to integrate an led in the button to only have it play when getting/on a call (who would need that??) and when an alarm goes off (again, who needs that??). Makes sense to have it for emails/texts/etc.
Hope this comes out. I haven't had a chance to see if LightFlow can access it.
Anyone email the lightflow dev? He has supported alternative led's in the past.

I may mention it when I ask about the color of the main led not displaying correctly when a Gmail message is received. Anyone else noticed this?
I don't currently use light flow, bit I read somewhere else on this board that other people were having the same Gmail issue.

I too may be seeing what you are.
I have lightflow setup to throw a white led for gmail, but.... when the screen is locked (I use pattern lock) and off, first the led flashes green for gmail. Then after I wake the screen, the led switches back to white as it should for the lightflow setting.
I've tried setting lightflow to reset the led before throwing a notification but that did not fix it. The other kicker is it doesn't always seem to do this green then white problem. Under the phone settings it does look like lg has set up quite a bit of an interface into the led, the front and back one. Most of the conditions for the led to come on are defaulted to only a green option in the phone setting. I've turned them all off so lightflow can control and determine the color etc. I even tried turning off the led function in the phone settings hoping that only lightflow would control, but the phone settings actually do keep the led completely off if set.
It's not a deal breaker, but I use green for google voice texts that are a much higher priority for me to take a look at.
I think the lg system on this phone still has some "tendrils" into the led settings that are getting in the way of lightflow having full control?
Also, for what it is worth, under the lightflow settings, it does show that lightflow does detect the back led and others so maybe the dev of that app can add some functionality in their copious free time
Yep. That's the behavior I'm seeing. Not the end of the world, but it kind of defeats the purpose of giving different colors in lightflow. I agree that it's likely due to the hooks LG still has present or something the LF devs need to iron out with this device. I saw those extra options for LEDs as well, but I wasn't able to get them to do anything. The lm3630 is the control for the backlight of the screen (found that while looking for a CABL control). I have no idea what the mmc1 is.

I'm loathing the new persistent lockscreen notifications on Lollipop! How to disable?

As the title says, I use mainly three apps which have continuous notifications on status bar (WatchOn, AquaMail and Call Recorder), at least that was the case on KitKat. But since Lollipop is released anything which creates a notification on status bar just echoes the same on lockscreen too, and there is no bloody way to disable them. It is extremely annoying as I just hate anything on the the lockscreen but the big arse clock and date.
So the query is rather straightforward, is there any way to disable these damn things? I am rooted obviously.
Thanks in advance.

Disabling only persistent notifications is my issue
I can absolutely relate, I have updated my n9005 to lollipop, but went right back to kitkat, after finding out that I cannot disable just the persistent notifications from the lockscreen. What is the point in having them on the lockscreen? They take away the space from new, and actually useful notifications from gmail, facebook, viber, etc. AND they also took away the quick launch option, as far as I have found... way to go sammy. Implement new features, but screw them up right away for no good reason... It's a shame really...

Well I don't know much but once again Samsung has nothing to do with this I think. This is how Google must have thought it would please us, well.
I could be wrong though.
I'm sorry, but as far as I know(only tried CM12, so could be a CM tweak) stock android has some toggles exactly to fix this issue: under notifications and sounds, you can not only toggle if a certain app is allowed to push you notifications, but also that you want all notifications from that app, or all but persistent, and it may be a third one: show only on the notification shade, but I'm not sure on this last one.
To sum it up, it's Samsung this time.

Okay, thanks for informing that. Need to know whether that's CM exclusive feature or standard Lollipop one. If it's standard LP feature then Samsung has messed up all right.

Light Flow - Control LED [ROOT] Paid Version

Some people are trying to use Light flow to enable the LED for custom notifications, heres how to :
In order to get this working as far as I have tested you need the following :
1. Root
2. The Paid Version of Lightflow - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow&hl=en_GB
3. Enable the LED in Sound & Notification settings
---------------------------------------------------------------
Jump into Light flows general settings and enable :
Show LED in priority mode
Accessibility check
Enable Clear All - Optional

I have a issue when my screen is off I I'm getting a constant blue blinking LED,yet in the app it says no active notifications,I've disabled all notifications in the app but its still doing it ,any ideas how to fix please ,I have had to knock off notifications light in settings but that stops them all coming through
Facebook or other apps...
I use LF wiith Sony XP z3c rooted, but did so with it (paid ver.) before root and found if you use the likes of Facebook and have notifications on within app settings it will designate blue colour regardless to the LED whether LFlow is installed and configured or not..I have a feeling I've maybe made an underhand silly comment here lol I hope not but just a suggestion I'm not entirely sure if there needs to strictly be a notification ongoing for it to flash in these cases... I appreciate as I'm new here all of you guys are respectful wizards compared to me so forgive my perhaps obvious novice-like rhetoric... hey ho...

Do you have any notifications at all? With "pulse notification light" enabled in system settings, you'll get a blinking blueish light for certain apps' notifications via Android itself, nothing to do with Lightflow.

LED Notification and AOD on/off programmatically?

Does anyone have any clue as to what activity or intent to send to turn on/off LED Notification and Always On Display on the S7 Edge?
I make extensive use of AutoMagic Premium (http://automagic4android.com) and Lightning Launcher Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.pierrox.lightning_launcher_extreme) and their collective abilities allow me to automatically change home screens (like when I connect to the Bluetooth in my car) and start activities and such. I'd really prefer not to load yet another app to do these things but, instead, just send an intent that turns on or off LED Notification at the appropriate times and turn on/off AOD. I've been through the list of activities in quite a few apps including those in Settings and the Samsung apps (via Activity Launcher, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher, and a few other such apps) haven't found anything that will actually do the job.
I've tried searching for help but haven't found a good set of search terms that'll yield useful results -- everything directs me to Settings or a review of the S7 Edge and what AOD is or what color the LED flashes
For the LED, you can use Tasker with the Samsung LED controller plug in:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tinyroar.galaxys3ledcontroller
There are some other apps that support Tasker plug-ins, but I don't know if the ones you mention do or not.

Thanks, works great! Automagic works with Tasker plug-ins and Lightning Launcher can be driven by Tasker (and compatible) programs so I've set up a little task driven by time-of-day to automatically have LL display my Night home screen and turn off the notification LEDs. I've also set up another task that gets triggered when I long press the Back key on my Night home screen in LL that sets "Day" mode and turns the notification LEDs back on.
Samsung LED controller doesn't seem to affect Always On Display. Does anyone know of anything I can use to set/reset this without going to Settings? I'm using Good Lock and AOD isn't currently available in the quick settings.

I had completely forgotten about Secure Settings, thank you! The plugin works with Automagic, too.
I bought Tasker back when it first came out and used it then but Tasker's UI and lack of decent documentation finally got the better of me and I haven't used it nor any of the plugins i used/bought for it for a couple of years. Automagic has its own quirks but I guess I'm used to themm Maybe I should take another look at Tasker? Hmmm...
Anyway, thank you for the Secure Settings pointer! Work great and, with that, my quest is over. Well, almost Just wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions? Development seems to have stopped on Secure Settings and, while it does everything I need it to do, I'd like to have another option, just in case.
I have found that you can find some good Tasker solutions by searching on Reddit. I agree that there should be more documentation for Tasker.

There are good solutions on Reddit and there are a lot of good solutions here on XDA...there's even a Tasker Tips and Tricks forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/u/tasker-tips-tricks! My problem is I just don't have the time anymore to do that much reading! Learning new container architectures and new language (GO, anyone?) and new (to me) delivery facilities (Chef, ANT) are taking up most of my time nowadays
Well, thanks to the pointers and apps given to me by the contributors to this thread, I've managed to accomplish everything with just Automagic! I'll document what I did in case anyone else is looking for a solution. I have no doubt that I could accomplish the same thing with Tasker but I'm using Automagic so that's what I'll document.
I can (un)set the system setting LED Indicator by using Automagic's "Set System Settings" action and manipulating 4 settings in the System category: led_indicator_missed_event, led_indicator_low_battery, ed_indicator_voice_recording, and led_indicator_charing (note, no "g" -- it's not charging, it's charing!).
I can (un)set Always On Display by using Automagic's "Set System Settings" action and manipulating a single setting in the System category: aod_mode.
Thanks, everyone, for your help!

Thanks for this. I hadn't found that option in Secure Settings. It would be nice if they listed all the options alphabetically, instead of randomly.
Tried to switch AOD on and off on my S7 using macrodroid and secure settings but the AOD doesn't turn on when I use 1 or off when I use 0.
Any help please?
Thank you!
EDIT: Ok, got it working now as described above!

ROM & Kernel customization options wishlist

Post up your wish-list of custom options for custom ROM's (non OP) and Kernels and I'll add them to the OP.
This is for options that you aren't finding in any ROM, or at least not in your favorite ROM.
Feel free to mention your current ROM if you like but this thread is NOT about which ROM is the best or your favorite.
Please don't turn it into that. :good:
I'll try to bold new suggestions every day or so till the thread gets tired.
*Ability to filter out specific notifications from appearing (ie: NotifyClean)
*Bring "only show running apps" option back to Slim Recents.
*Clearly mentioned in OP if rom supports encryption/decryption.
*Day/Night - Provide option to switch between two different Substratum themes at toggle of a button.
*Fix the earphone bug.
*Fully working OOS camera
*Now Playing features from Pixel 2 XL detect song from lockscreen via ambient
*Option to remove USB Debugging notification is missing on some newer ROM's.
*Ring on charge complete
*Vibration - Would like to have option for more than 100% vibration.
- Clearly mentioned in OP if rom supports encryption/decryption. That is not always the case and people ask many times in the same thread.
- Long press back to kill foreground app.
Fully working OOS camera times 100. Literally the only thing stopping me from switching from OOS betas. I'm aware of the Google Camera functionality and also about all its problems.
Ability to filter out specific notifications from appearing. For example, my wife and I 'share' an Amazon Prime Photos account. I don't want a 'Successfully uploaded photos from your 3rd device' notification every time she uploads something. But I don't want to mute notifications for the whole app (or sometimes even notification group) as I may not get the 'upload progress' notifications' anymore. The Xposed module Notify Clean was perfect pre-Nougat and AutoNotification works alright post-Nougat, but it would be nice if this was baked into the ROM.

Just FYI, this is already available in every custom ROM I've tried so far.
You just have to enable the navigation bar options and then go into the button editor. I set up all my ROM's with this. And set the home button to open camera on long press.

OMG, if NotifyClean ever gets updated for Oreo I will go back to using Xposed again.
I really miss that app and some of the others by that dev. :good:
Hello there,
First off, the only couple things that stopping me to move from stock to a custom rom is the OOS camera (as mentioned above) and mostly the earphone bug. The mic on the phone and the earphones seems to be activated during a call and it gets pretty annoying to hear an amplified background of your environment and the person's on the other end, seems like most custom roms have this problem.
I've also long wanted to see ''ring on charge complete'' on the OP5T.
Thank you for asking.

I think this might be an option using Light Flow?
If you really want it then it might be worth looking into.
It does custom ringtones for certain actions.
And they can be backed up for ROM re-flashes as long as the ringtone is stored in the usual spot /system/media/sounds/etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow

*Day/Night - Provide option to switch between two different Substratum themes at toggle of a button.

A few ROM's provide built in day/night theme options.
But they don't theme apps like phone or calculator or anything else.
They only theme the settings and drop-down and a couple other things.
I want a nice non-tasker hack.
And would be willing to donate for it
