Message Notification screenshots [Why are these appearing?]

So I've uninstalled Handcent, uninstalled ChompSMS, just using the default messaging application. I receive a new sms message, I get double notifications, one smiley face one and a normal sms looking envelope one. I check my messages, review my newly received sms but the envelope icon stays in my tray, sometimes it even says you have 0 new message(s). Anyone have a clue what's going on here? Screenshots!
Using latest CM5 beta5 w/ google apps.

very easy.
from the icon i see that you use Handcent SMS
at the same time however, you didn't disable the notification of the in-build Messenger app - so the phone gives you double notification 1. from Handcent, 2. from the in-build app
if the inbuild messenger app gives you a notification, but Handcent SMS doesn't it means that in Handcent you have probably blacklisted a sender, so Handcent doesn't give you a notification, but the in-build app doesn't have a black list, so it still gives you a notification (= disable the in-build app's notification and no problems thereafter).
p.s. for some reason Handcent's recent release regularly moves people "automagically" into the blacklist (it doesn't seem to like my wife very much.....), therefore I currently have the option "Show Blacklist" enabled... a bit annoying

I don't have handcent installed anymore, it's uninstalled. Thanks for your fast reply. I'm having this problem while only using the default messaging app. No case of double notifications here, when I tap the envelope notifications it doesn't really clear, unless I manually clear all notifications.

Hmm, Have you tried to reinstall handcent and then turn off notifications within handcent, then uninstall? Looks like the options are carrying over.

Do you have beautiful widgets pack 2? the sms in that will automatically notify you even if you never set it up. Made me incredibly mad trying to figure out where the second notification was coming from. finally hooked it up and logcatted it while I sent myself a message. Figured out what it was from that.

OH MY GOD! I've been struggling for 5 days to find how and why I got the 2 notifications too. I uninstalled everything. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

[KitKat][Sense 5.5] HTC One Lockscreen Notification Solution

I am a big fan of lock screen notifications and screen wakeup when those notifications arrive. When I have my phone sitting on the desk and it beeps for something, I want to be able to know what it is without having to touch the phone. If there is anything important then I can attend to it but otherwise I just want to take a peek and leave it for later.
HTC Sense 5.5 has a very limited implementation of this with only emails, calls, voicemail and calendar appointment support. And I also couldn't manage to wake the screen when the notification arrives. It just feels crippled. I don't understand why HTC would do that!!! Almost every app I use supports notifications and HTC's implementation feels like they totally forgot that people use their smartphones for more than just calls, emails, messaging and scheduling appointments.
Lockscreen widgets (like NiLS and Lock Screen Notifications) seemed like a solution but again HTC got in the way with Sense 5.5. You cannot add widgets on the main lock screen. You have to add a page by swiping from right to left and clicking the '+'. But that defeats the purpose as you would still have to swipe to see the notification.
After a bit of digging around, NiLS Floating Panel did the trick! All you need is the NiLS and NiLS Floating Panel . You just need to enable the NiLS service and turn Floating Panel ON. Of course you can customize the experience but I'll leave that for you to explore.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated to the developer of NiLS Lockscreen Notifications. I am simply posting a solution to a common problem. If you don't want to use this solution, then don't. If something didn't work for you, then maybe you are doing something wrong. So no guarantees here.

Definitely a cool idea but for myself, I'm just thinking, what other notifications am I missing? Just curious but what notifications do you miss out on without this?

I'm also looking for a good lockscreen addon. Really like the iOS LS.
Tried NiLS floating panel but apps will only open when there are 2 ore more lines of notifications.
I will take SlideLock, which comes nearest iOS Lockscreen. Only thing I miss is that when I listen to music, SlideLock doesn't show the Music-player Lockscreen-Addon to change or pause song.

If you use third party messaging services like whatsapp or even shopping apps like ebay, amazon to name a few have their own notifications. Say you ordered something on eBay and it was marked as shipped. They eBay app generates an alert for that. It's not that urgent so now you at least know that it was from eBay and it's not something you need to respond to immediately. On the other hand your spouse decides to send a note on whatsapp about something. This is something you might want to respond to immediately. All this is without even touching your phone that's sitting on your work desk. This is just an example and of course varies based on how and what you use your phone for.
I think it is quite practical to have this feature as phones are no longer just calls, texts and calendar appointments. When Android boasts of hundreds of thousands of apps, there should be some scalability with the features vendors bake into their phones.

Silent Mode Alternative on Lollipop, Possible?

So I always had the ****ing Priority mode enabled whenever I was taking those small beauty naps, but today I realised that it's ****ing nonsense. I mean I thought it basically replaces the Silent mode, meaning the phone won't ring or vibrate but the screen will pop up on calls and texts and the LED will blink for other notifications. But today I saw I wasn't notified on WhatsApp messages, on calls and texts, I missed an important meeting with a client. Anyway, that's irrelevant.
So the question is, is there any app or alternative to ENABLE THE SILENT MODE? I mean exactly how it worked on KitKat. I don't need to know what to modify on Priority mode, I don't have time to do nonsense.

That works with the LED notification too? I have seen that widget but there were these kind of reviews which have put me off from that app.
doesn't work this doesn't put the phone into a proper silent state (where the notification light blinks but the phone doesn't make a sound or vibrate), it just puts it into priority mode

LIES! Does not work on Lollipop It just puts it into Priority mode, which is NOT THE SAME as silent mode.

Try other silent mode widget.

How about the app "Silent Time". Not sure if it will do what you want but worth a free download to try.

So a new update was pushed to S5, OB7, which brings back the Silent Mode and also the Do Note Disturb feature. Is there any chance that I can download the ROM and extract the features and make it work on a Note 3?

Hmm, didn't notice that, I still have the app installed! Really weird!
Anyway, no point in installing it, as I said, it doesn't work, it doesn't bring any Silent mode back.

Anyway to pick and choose what notifs display in lockscreen?

Yes, Go to Sound & Notification under settiings, Select App Notifications and turn off the ones you dont want to display.

That will turn them off every where. I mean have control separately from lockscreen and homescreen?

For example, I would like Gmail not to show up on the lock screen but I would like it to show on the home screen. This cannot be done with the stock rom. Is there any way to do it that way? The lock screen gets too crowded if I get notifications that I don't want to see but would still like to see them on the home screen so I know that I got some other notification.

I'm not able to find such a setting. The only control I see is to hide the content of particular notifications on the lock screen.

Prior to Marshmallow, you used to be able to longpress on the notification on the lockscreen and choose to hide it. At the moment, you can only choose to hide all notifications on the lockscreen rather than choosing individually (as far as I can see).
Means that some persistent notifications will always show up on the lockscreen. I'd prefer to have the option to hide some notifications on the lockscreen but still have them persistent.

You can set that option up individually for each app under the Settings. I selected options to not show notifications for certain apps on Lock Screen, but the app badge itself does show when I have a new notification in my launcher. (I use Buzz Launcher)

There is a whole bunch of stuff that needs addressing for notifications, you need to be able to turn on and off at a app level what is displayed on the lockscreen. I would like email, SMS, IM apps etc to hide their content but still give me a indication that I have a notification. However breaking news, weather, play store etc and apps as such I should be free to set as show content.
It is silly that it is all or nothing.

The option exists to hide the content of a specific notification on the lockscreen, just not to hide the notification altogether (from what I can tell). You can hide notification content on the lockscreen by going to "Settings">"Sound & Notification">"App notifications" then select an app, and check "Hide sensitive content"

Fully working OOS camera times 100. Literally the only thing stopping me from switching from OOS betas. I'm aware of the Google Camera functionality and also about all its problems.

Ability to filter out specific notifications from appearing. For example, my wife and I 'share' an Amazon Prime Photos account. I don't want a 'Successfully uploaded photos from your 3rd device' notification every time she uploads something. But I don't want to mute notifications for the whole app (or sometimes even notification group) as I may not get the 'upload progress' notifications' anymore. The Xposed module Notify Clean was perfect pre-Nougat and AutoNotification works alright post-Nougat, but it would be nice if this was baked into the ROM.

Just FYI, this is already available in every custom ROM I've tried so far.
You just have to enable the navigation bar options and then go into the button editor. I set up all my ROM's with this. And set the home button to open camera on long press.

OMG, if NotifyClean ever gets updated for Oreo I will go back to using Xposed again.

Hello there,
First off, the only couple things that stopping me to move from stock to a custom rom is the OOS camera (as mentioned above) and mostly the earphone bug. The mic on the phone and the earphones seems to be activated during a call and it gets pretty annoying to hear an amplified background of your environment and the person's on the other end, seems like most custom roms have this problem.
I've also long wanted to see ''ring on charge complete'' on the OP5T.

I think this might be an option using Light Flow?
If you really want it then it might be worth looking into.
It does custom ringtones for certain actions.
And they can be backed up for ROM re-flashes as long as the ringtone is stored in the usual spot /system/media/sounds/etc.

A few ROM's provide built in day/night theme options.
But they don't theme apps like phone or calculator or anything else.
They only theme the settings and drop-down and a couple other things.
I want a nice non-tasker hack.
And would be willing to donate for it :lol:
