Fingerprint sensor trick. - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I found a way to have a seamless experience with the OP2 fingerprint sensor. When adding a new fingerprint always ensure that you touch the sensor in all directions with both the thumbs. This way you will be able to unlock the phone via both your thumbs. Hope this helps.
Cheers.

you could always just add a second valid fingerprint with your other thumb...

OP's way is actually better, the reader gets slower when it has to scan for multiple fingers.

Fingerprint as slider

The fingerprint scanner is really cool and useful for some people, but I personally don't really care to have a security measure like that. That said, I prefer using the scanner as the unlocker instead of the screen unlocker.
Not sure how many people would actually want this as an option, but would it be feasible to add the option for any swipe to be accepted?
Uhm. That's what it does now. You slide your finger and it unlocks.
If you want it to do it without registering fingerprints, no you cannot do this and you wouldn't want it to, as it'd unlocked whenever something brushed against it.
I don't need the added security either, but I also prefer the fingerprint reader to unlock. The only downside is that if I need my gf to do something for me on my phone she has to use the unlock code, but that's no big deal.
I wish the phone would turn on when you swipe. that power button is damn hard to push. why is is recessed in?

I meant it to be a mod type option. I know it's not an option from the factory.
It wouldn't unlock every time something brushed against it because it would still require a press of the button. I honestly don't know the tech that goes into a fingerprint scanner, but it's not just a pressure sensor, so it wouldn't work with just anything touching it. It doesn't even respond if it's through cloth like a shirt, so I'd argue that the screen is more likely to unlock the phone accidentally than the fingerprint swipe would be.
I'm assuming this could be a fairly complex mod, so it's probably not worth the effort it would take. Still figured it would be worth throwing out there for anyone who might be able and willing to give it a try.
Thanks for the responses so far.

When you setup the fingerprint scanner it has you enroll your right index and your left index. Why not enroll your right index and your GF's right index?
Hah, this thread brought an idea - imagine if the fingerprint sensor could be used as a touchpad - you'd just swipe down to scroll down a browser for instance

Thats what I thought the OP was going to be about when I saw the title. If there was a mod for that I'd isntall it instantly.
Thats if I get the Atrix of course.
Use a launcher like Any Cut to start com.authentec...NavigationConfiguration.
Emulation: trackball. Rotation: eALT180. NAV Mode: Enable.
Have fun.
New life in an old thread...thx for ealt180 tip!

Nice tip, thanks a lot.

can someone guide me a little? tried to do it but failed right away. already installed anycut, found the app on Activity, selected it but then what? cause it auto closes after i open it.
fixed!
old android 1.6 and earlier had by default screen unlock by just pressing a button (g1 has menu button). android still has that function but its disabled, perhaps it can be assigned to the "trackball"?

Using Nexus Imprint to LOCK the 6P?

Hello! So this is the first phone I've used with a fingerprint reader. I love how quickly it unlocks the phone. However, I keep finding myself swiping my finger to try and lock the device after I am done using it. It seems like a very simple and intuitive feature that Google should have built in. Anyone have any idea if something like this could be hacked together? I think a lot of people would love the convenience of this!!!
If screen off - fingerprint to unlock
If screen on - fingerprint to lock
This should absolutely not have been built in. You'd constantly accidentally lock the phone; my finger hits the scanner a lot when I move the phone around.
I'd be a nice ROM feature for those who want it though...
Yeah that does sound rather interesting would love to see that implemented into a mod

I guess I could see why it wouldn't be on as default...but a switch to activate it would be cool! You could easily learn not to touch the reader to trigger a lock I'd suspect.
I think it'd be a cool ROM feature and/or Mod though for sure. Pretend like the feature works next time you have your phone unlocked and you want to lock it and you'll see why I think it'd be so convenient.

It'd have to be a bit more deliberate gesture, like double tap the scanner. Now that would be nice.

I could get on board with something like that!

Fingerprint sensor as touchpad

The N6P has got the same fingerprint sensor than the mate s. Is it possible to get the scrolling feature with the fingerprint sensor as a touchpad for photos and browser ... working? This would be very usefull especially when reading long text.
There is a lot of potential features that could be realized with the fingerprint sensor ... such as switch to last app when longpressed or double tapped while unlocked.
I don't got any programming skills so i don't know how to do this at all. Just some ideas
I do self talk here ... just want to bring this up again.
Scrolling with the sensor would be so usefull as i always got pain in my little finger holding my device while reading long text ... anyone even know if this is possible?
Hi, you do have a good idea! Try the Kinetic Scroll app for now, and ask the developer here about the fingerprint scanner.
If you can, I'd suggest make an xposed module! A lot of people (myself included) would definitely be interested!
I think it's possible to do it because the Huawei made scroll screenshot in their system so why not implement this feature in the fingerprint sensor it will be very useful to all users
Imagine if we could have the functionality of the Nexus 1s track ball from the fingerprint scanner. ?

Can't use Fingerprint Sensor with 3rd Party Lock Screen

I'm SO frustrated. The stock Marshmellow Lock Screen is terrible. One of the poor design points of Android for quite some time now. There are much better lock screens such as Microsoft Next, Hi Locker, etc. Some of which (like the ones mentioned) support fingerprint unlock.
The problem with the G6 is that it won't allow you to setup a fingerprint, WITHOUT enabling the system lock screen!
There's other apps that use fingerprint option, such as LastPass app. Can't use it unless you have System Lock screen enabled.
Pathetic

#1. Why are you on Marshmallow? Most G6's launched with 7.0
#2. I barley see my lockscreen. I just put my finger on the scanner and it unlocks. I don't see a point in having one anymore.

Especially with AOD the lock screen is very rarely seen. With knock on and the finger print scanner being very accurate on this device, I don't use the lock screen ever. I suppose if you use the swipe to unlock it's still relevant.

First the absence of a notification LED.... now this catastrophe!
Life's really tough.
Sorry I got my sweets all mixed up. I meant Nougat, not Marshmellow.
Everyone has different objectives of how they use their smartphone. For me, I'm not one to be using my phone frequently throughout the day. This is a key difference between me and a lot of typical users, especially the younger generation that is doing SMS/Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram/YouTube/Etc much of the day. I for one must have repeating sound alarms for missed SMS and phone calls as the LED indicator doesn't do any good when you aren't always glancing at your phone. I can leave it in another room for much of the day. So I guess I don't miss an LED indicator on my G6. (I use Prof Reminder app). When I do turn on my phone I want to see vital info right up front. That is:
- Text of missed SMS messages
- Missed phone calls
- Upcoming appointments for the next few days
- Weather for the next 3-5 days
I used to use C Locker which lets you put any widgets you want on the lock screen but I'm preferring the simplicity and look of MS Next Lock Screen now.
Anyhoo, my preference is to double tap screen to see my lock screen with all the info, then if I want to unlock, use the fingerprint sensor. The stock lock screen SUCKS.
The bottom line is that use of the fingerprint sensor should be independent of the lock screen setting. This would be like saying you can only use the home button with the stock home screen and couldn't use Nova Launcher.

[Q] Intentional Fingerprint Delay

In OMNI ROM for 8.1 the fingerprint capture is delayed slightly. Similar to the Z5 Compact. In my opinion the lightning fast fingerprint reader renders the lock screen useless and what used to be a quick display of information is now just a blur as my phone unlocks. This then prompts me to perform several other actions to retrieve/view the notification. Not to mention the music apps lock screen widget to skip tracks is now useless because my phone unlocks before I have time to interact with the lock screen.
How adding a delay in fingerprint recognition could be accomplished (if at all) on the stock firmware for 8.0?
Does anyone know if there is a delay parameter in some part of the system that can be modified?
What controls the recognition of the fingerprint scanner (kernel or android system)?
I know what you are talking about but a workaround is to press it with a finger nail or a finger that hasn't been setup like the little finger of your non-dominant hand.

Yeah that's the short term fix but I want a longer term fix if I am to use this phone for a few years.
Clarification on question:
I guess I am wondering what piece of the android operating system controls the scanner.
Is it the kernel or is it one of the few android fingerprint applications?
Any suggestions on this would be helpful so I can begin looking into a solution because I like the fingerprint scanner in the power button but I just want it to distinguish between me powering on to see the lockscreen/check time/change music or me actually wanting to unlock the device.
