No calls on Verizon - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have flashed 2 different images downloaded from Google and have even tried to install CleanRom. My issue is I get LTE data and can even receive messages, but absolutely no calls in or out. *#*#4636#*#* shows emergency calls only. This same sim works on my old phone still. My APN is exactly the same as my wife's Note 3 so that isn't the problem either. Can anybody help me figure out what is going on and how to fix it. Thanks

CDMA/LTE checked in the cellular network settings under preferred mobile type?

i thought the new nexus phones required a different sim? nano sim?
my buddy got the 5x on vzw he said he had to go to the store to get a certain type of sim card for it to work

You can cut your sim down to nano... They even sell sim cutters that punch out the different sizes.

I put my verizon nano sim card from my s6 and it just worked for me. Stock unrooted.

Yeah, I have CDMA/LTE checked and have a nano sim in.

With no solution in sight, i contacted Huawei customer service and am supposed to be getting an RMA label today. They said it will ship back for repairs and be gone 10-14 days.

Are you curious if Verizon works on the 6P? Because I am on Verizon and everything works as it should. Just pop in an active nano sim.

Should be able to yes, but for Data only of course.
Has anyone actually tried this yet? I'm on T-Mobile, and if it would be possible to swap my SIM between my phone (Nexus 4 on order) and the 3G Nexus 7, I'd certainly buy the N7. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this.
If AT&T screens out the IMEI it won't work.

T-Mobile is already confirmed to be screening out the IMEI of the Nexus 7.
I do see you have posted in the Springboard forum. In theory the Springboard SIM (trimmed) should work fine.
Any update on At&t cellphone sim working in an N7?
T-Mobile Sim tied to IMEI
I just purchased T-Mobile's prepaid data plan. There's a couple of things. When setting up the SIM, they did require a IMEI to activate the data. Without it, it showed T-Mobile as the carrier on the lock screen but never pulled data. And T-Mobile's SIM rules require that if you do prepay, you must reload/use it as frequent as not having a 90 day window between uses/purchases... otherwise the SIM will be deactivated and you'll have to do it all over again.
Hope that helps.

I think that's because, when you give T-Mobile an IMEI on prepaid, they use that to determine whether they are going to provision you a voice or data line. You can still probably use that SIM in other tablets or maybe even mobile broadband devices. Unclear whether it'd work fine in tablets or phones with IMEIs they don't recognize. They'd probably block it if you put the SIM into a phone they recognize.

The SIM they gave me was specific for their data only plans.
Nonetheless, I think the system doesn't differentiate between types of SIM until it gets activated.

Just Got a Nexus 7 Activated on a New Line with Verizon

This may help some of you who want to use your Nexus 7 with Verizon but need to put it on a new line rather than swapping the SIM with another device. As you all know by now, Verizon won't willingly set up a new tablet line for you with a Nexus 7's IMEI number due to the fact that the Nexus 7 isn't yet "certified" for use on Verizon's network.
I went into a Verizon store and grabbed the IMEI number off of a floor-model Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I then called Verizon customer service to set up the new tablet line. I gave them the IMEI number that I got from the Tab 2, which obviously passed the "is it approved for Verizon's network" test. They then set up the new line and sent me a micro SIM card via FedEx. When I got the micro SIM card today, I put it in my Nexus 7, went online to My Verizon, and did "Activate or Switch Device". I selected the new tablet line, then it asked me for the SIM ID# and the IMEI for the device. I gave it the SIM ID number from the card they sent me and the IMEI number from the Tab 2 floor model. I then turned on the Nexus 7 and after a little bit of a wait, it activated with no problem at all.
It's worth noting that you CANNOT do this in a Verizon store. They'll insist on seeing the tablet before they'll give you a SIM. The only way is to call and set up the line over the phone through Verizon customer service. Also, make sure you use an IMEI number from a tablet, otherwise it'll set up as a phone line and charge you for a phone plan.

I think they only use the IMEI number to verify that your device is "approved" for Verizon's network. Once it gets past that, you're in the clear.

So is the only association for billing purposes your sim to your account or is there also an association of your imei to your account, let's say for 3g data. I know the nexus doesn't do 3g on CDMA, but did the Samsung? Put another way, is there anyway the store demo Samsung's data usage is now counted on your account, in addition to your nexus data usage?

No, it's only based on SIM card. The IMEI is only used to verify compatibility and to tell Verizon's system what kind of device you have.

So how does billing for the 3g side (for the Samsung) work since it was my understanding the SIM is only used for LTE? I am not disputing what you are saying, just trying to reconcile my understanding of how things work with how the billing is implemented. It is possible my understanding of how the different pieces are working is deficient. On CDMA we've never had SIMs and just had embedded IMEI/MEID. Only with LTE did we get SIMs but it was my understanding the SIMs were only used for the LTE side and the old 3g stuff still used the IMEI/MEID. When I activate a 3G-only CDMA phone all I enter is the IMEI/MEID, there is no SIM to enter. The billing in that case must be done by IMEI/MEID or my data usage would never show up. I am just wondering if there are 2 phases to the activation, associating the SIM with your account for LTE data and associating the MEID with your account for 3g data.
Nice way to go around the idiotic process that Varizon have put in place. It just seems that there is absolutely no logic behind the process. From a business stand point I "as a business owner" would like a customer to pay me more for for new service of a tablet for example. It really should not matter what the tools used are as long as I am getting my payments on time and my customer is satisfied with my service.

The SIM ID still carries over to the CDMA side. It's a software bridge in Verizon's system.

Straight talk CDMA issues

Ok have a few questions for you guys. I upgraded from a samsung s4 that I had on straight talks CDMA 4g LTE sim. It worked well but the s4 didn't get good signal. So I bought the verizon s5 and took the sim out of the s4 and I stalled it in the s5. So the data worked great, had great signal and talk function worked well. My problem was that I could receive texts but couldn't send them. I called straight talk and they told me I need a sim setup to my new phone. So I went to Walmart and got one. I called them and had it activated. Now the data works, talk works, BUT now I can send texts but can not receive them. Opposite of what it was doing with the other sim. I was on the phone with them for 1.5 hrs Saturday and another 2hrs Sunday and the can't seem to get it to work. My sister in law has a Verizon s5 with a straight talk CDMA sim. I tried hers but it doesn't work at all in my phone and mine doesn't work at all in hers.
I bought another sim kit but don't know if i need it or not.
Do you all think it's the sim or my phone that is the problem?
This is just crazy. I use this phone for work and I really need it to work. Any insite would be greatly appreciated

If you "really need it to work," then use it the way it's supposed to be used. Use it on Verizon. not Straight Talk. Just because you want something to work out doesn't mean it does. You bought an off-carrier phone and you expect it to work seamlessly? If ST can't help you, then good luck!
Look at access Point names under date
Well straight talk got me to put a new sim in it. So all works except I can't send texts now but I can receive them again. So this tells me that it's a straight talk issue. Wonder why out of the 5 friends and family that all have this same phone and straight talk service I'm the only one with issues

VZW CDMA Compatability?

All,
It seems that the only way to get the XPE working on the Verizon network is to use an already activated SIM.
If I'm not mistaken, this is only for the LTE portion of the radio (since LTE is a GSM derivation).
To activate a phone on the CDMA network, I believe its IMEI has to be whitelisted.
So, my question is, can this phone use Verizon's CDMA network?
This is important because, while I do get some LTE service at work, the CDMA repeater network typically picks up my phone so that I can receive calls.
Thanks!
CDMA works fine. I don't get LTE at home, and my MXP works fine there.

Easiest way definetly is sim swap. That being said. Being that i wanted a fresh sim. Went to store. Official vzw. All that needs to be done
If you don't have a activated nano or want to cut your micro. Go to store and let them know you wish to activate new MXP. Have them call level 2 tech and they can take care of it pretty quickly. Activated in hand. Or call #202 and explain samething and they will send it. Either way mine is activated and everything works great.

I ran into trouble with Verizon activating my device. Apparently the IMEI wasn't white listed yet.
What I had them do is use and already activated S6 on my account (wifes device). To issue a nano sim. Then plugged into my device and that got it working.
Really not impressed with Verizon not having the devices white listed already. Not sure if it's because mine is custom (64gb/ leather). Either way, I'm activated.

I had LTE once I got a nano sim. They couldn't issue me a nano sim. I'm coming from a galaxy s4 so needed to get a nano sim. Took almost 1.5 hours, but this was the employee calling someone and trying to find a way for a while. Then after all that I suggested using wifes device imei (which is on same account and takes nano sim). Which that process took maybe 10min tops and plugged the nano sim in and worked instantly. On my account shows my device as "non Verizon device". Didn't even know it is the moto x pure

Verizon Certification - Missing?

So according to this CNET article Verizon network certification is not complete.
That is a problem for me. If it doesn't get Verizon certification, it is of no use to me.

Got this from their support today:
Thank you for your question. We expect to receive Verizon certification soon. Though it is not certified by Verizon, it does work on the their network. You will need to make sure you are using a NFC nano SIM for full functionality. Have a great day.

I'm using a Xiaomi Mi Note 2 on Verizon right now and it works fine. I have VoLTE. No Wifi calling though. I'm 99.9% sure Verizon never certified this phone.
What I should have said, is that if it doesn't work right out of the box, it's no use to me.
When I got my Nexus 6P you had to jump through a few hoops because you couldn't get a SIM card.
You had to have an existing active phone.
is it really an issue though? just swap the sim from your phone into that one and it will work. only issue comes from if you don't already have a phone with a nano sim or can't use a buddies phone to help. yes hoops like that suck but it had to be expected that verizon would take way longer than everyone else.

Sometimes, though, not being certified, also means not working.

It's actually really good. I was running Resurrection Remix on it so pretty much stick with some tweaks. I get all the LTE bands on Verizon and have VoLTE. I get good data speeds. The battery is really good. Overall it's a nice phone. It's just hard to go back to bezels after having a Mix, a G6 and an S8+. This was just supposed to be a serviceable phone to hold me over while I waited on one of the current crop and it's done its job well.
