New Update on Droid Maxx - Droid Ultra General

I just got this update a few minutes ago. I can't seem to find anyone talking about it. Anyone got any information on changes?

Just the stage fright patch

To me this is kind of a disappointment, considering that the time was taken to produce a security update for an exploit that has been around a while, but the release a new os for the ultra/maxx/mini users that could better the experience and patch the security issues is nowhere in sight. Furthermore with this patch, its very doubtful that we will see L on our devices.

Big disappointment indeed. This is all Verizon has to offer? A patch for the stagefright bug? Wow, I'm impressed. Not!
Yeah, I think at this point droid maxx/ultra/mini users can pretty much forget about getting Lollipop. I mean come on, L has been out for a year and these phones are two years old now. They (the carriers) are not going to waste time, money, and effort on dinosaur phones, especially with Marshmallow out now.
Edit: Just got my "New system software available". Had to go into settings>system update to get the notification. The update is only 2.7 megabytes. Just a bug patch, that's all.
Whoopee! Not!

So if they don't deliver, will maxx users get a kickback like atrix hd owners did when kk wasn't delivered.

Yeah, I think Verizon is going to give everybody a free Droid Turbo 2 with lifetime free unlimited data! :silly:
Just kidding, of course.

Surprising that they are slacking so bad with so many 2013 droid phones that receive the same update with the ultra and mini supposed to get it too and the mini is still being sold at Verizon.

Not so minor, read major BUG fix!
Stock launcher update, no more safe boot crashes while you have more than 200 apps.
For starters...
Look at the zip, many apps updated.

Will because of this I bet we are not gonna see 5.1 on are phones tell next year if at all.
And im also gonna hold off on updating in hopes of a bootloader unlock to install some roms/make my own.

I do not think the boot is touched. Do not suffer bad sw for nothing.

Bought the Maxx at launch and still using it (I'm unlocked/rooted), but have already ordered my Nexus 6P. I'm done with Verizon's inability to update phones, so I'm taking them out of the equation.

The "update" is only 2.7 mb in size. There is not a lot going on with the update. Just the stagefright patch that's all.
Verizon took all this time just to come out with a 2.7 mb update? This sucks bigtime.
I'm looking at getting the Moto X Pure. It is unlocked and can be used on Verizon's network. The bootloader is unlockable through Motorola/Lenovo. I don't want any more of Verizon's locked down phones.

I don't think the Maxx is going to see Lollipop at all.
Also, if there is a bootloader unlock exploit developed, I don't think this minor update will prevent you from using it. That's just my opinion.

You're wrong! Many apps updated to fix long standing bugs. LOOK at the 2 sys app folders before you make ignorant statements. I took it based on the app folder content, it fixed a major bug. I bet it fixes the Bluetooth / Maps / Youtube bug as well.... You assume that vzw passes all the Moto details to us. They do not.

What is the build date on the update? And we are just now getting it.

Guys this is a minor update so if a bootloader unlock method was created then you can downgrade the version back to do the bootloader unlock method its not a Lollipop update just a like a new build update..Only problem is will this break root access if we update????

thanks for not making this a "just kidding" post.
Wow, could they actually be listening to grumbling customers??? Or was this just an effort to make sure the phone was good for the release of Moto Maker...
One theory I saw floating around that might have some validity to it is that since Verizon just started to turn on AWS LTE, maybe in addition to the regular bug fixes that other carriers got, Verizon could also have greenlit Motorola to enable the AWS LTE band in the radio?

Yup just check the FCC listing, pretty much all phones released in the 2nd half of 2013 support Band 4.

It opens up another set of frequencies for data flow. It doesn't mean you'll get more bars but more bandwidth. This can alleviate congestion issues and/or improve speeds.

I don't think there is a way for us VZW ppl to unroot without resetting. The only way i could find was to fastboot flash the stock recovery and system, but the VZW system image is a few MB too big to be pushed through fastboot.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
Though I use a Maxx... fastboot works just fine... Use the fastboot from the fxz and it automatically enables Multi flash and it kinda breaks the file into smaller ones and flashes accordingly... It should work without affecting ur data, but try it at your own risk..

They're doing a super job. In the little time I've had this, I've really noticed the little things such as their Xmas boot animation. I'm aware that some don't like it, but I think most will like the little touch of 'class'. Personally, I'd like to see them really surprise me with a Superbowl or BCS bowl animation but I recognize that will only appeal to a few.

Heh I'm not worried, everything always comes in time ... Motorola obviously didn't launch the phone in the US and I'm just interested in the turnaround since then from the planned US launch in January. It's been a bit irritating to see all the 16GB stock suddenly appear in the US when it's been hard to get any in the UK, not to mention accessories ... anyway, off-topic.

KitKat 4.4.4 Rollout

Looks like AT&T is not being the first to roll out the 4.4.4 update. I'm guessing it will be happening sooner than later.
Here is a list of the updates happening:
Android 4.4.4
HD voice Icon support
International Wi-Fi Calling support
Google Security Patches
Knox 2.0
Kids Mode
I got this from Samsung's website talking about Sprint:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?fm_seq=73981&faq_id=FAQ00057083
I also heard from rumors that they are planning to unlock our bootlooder. I wouldn't put to much weight in that though.

Another thought is, since the new Note 4 is so close to the Note 3, as far as what we can do with it, I really don't see that much of a software update happening.
Think about it. Sammy's main goal is to make more $$ on the new hardware, so why invest more time andc $$ in an update?
Just a thought.

Supposedly they have to support us with updates and stuff for 18 months. The Note 3 has been out for almost a year, so we should still be getting 4.4.4 and L. I have a feeling they're going to skip 4.4.4 and go straight to L, which I will be avoiding at all costs.

AT&T/Samsung updates go in the direction of maximum corporate security, so unless you're the network admin for some company, probably not. (They want to turn your phone into the company's phone, so if you're not in the business of buying your employer a phone that they allow you minimal use of, Samsung is no longer the phone to buy.
Maybe if they lose enough business, they'll change their policy.

L= downfall of Android. Read up on it and you will see why. After the KitKat update fiasco earlier this year I've learned my lesson and plan to stay put on 4.4.2 until my Note 3 dies.
I'm thinking 4.4.4 sooner rather then later. I'm assuming several months before an "L" release.

This is what I'm going to go with. L is a long ways away for Samsung devices. Look how long 4.4.4 has been out and we still haven't seen it. I wish it was different and AT&T had speedy updates but sadly that's not the case.

I'm saying L= bad because I've read rumors about how Google will be incorporating Knox or something like it into the source code. It'll be locked down tighter than NC2 and may be the end of root and ROMs. Supposedly even the Nexus 5 guys had a hard time rooting the L developer preview.
I'll wait and see if the rumors about L are true before moving away from Android. There's no way I'd be caught dead with an iPhone and Windows phones don't appeal to me.
I'll see if I can get you some links after work.

Adding "Knox" to the search helped a bunch. Here's a pretty good article:
http://www.cso.com.au/article/550673/google_details_knox-inspired_enterprise_managed_profiles_android_l/
It looks as if Google may still try to lock the bootloader, just not through Knox.

People say this, but I don't really have any problems. Everything works. I just want to see if I can get some better reception in a few spots, but really it's very minor.

Main issue I want fixed is the sound issues then all will be fine for me.
Everyone calm down, it's not in aosp yet
and all i want is just a stock deodex rom =/
so what is new besides the HD voice and device protection ?

Finally, someone with common sense (and you beat me to it).
ROM's won't appear until it's in AOSP and Dev's re-compile.
for those devices it goes out to, we might see the OTA available if someone captures and upload it to their favorite BB
And then this could lend credence to VZ's hitting stores with 5.1 a week from Thursday (But I still think those would be a 5.0 variant with a open and update to 5.1 myself ...)

Still think were waiting on an official change log from google. Here's some 5.1 changes that have been posted: http://www.androidpolice.com/tags/android-5-1-feature-spotlight/
Sent from my Nexus 6
I hope google fixed the increasing tone (or allowed to disable it)
Looks like factory images dropped for the N5 and N10, but nothing yet for Shamu
The 2012 Nexus 7 also got some love.

shamu takes more time for some reason, its usually later than the rest
It is being pushed to aosp now: https://android.googlesource.com/device/moto/shamu/+/lollipop-mr1-release
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...d-5-1-lollipop-source-code-to-aosp-right-now/
The system images are live for the nexus 4&5. But not the nexus 6 as per usual.
Why is the 6 slower to update? Is it done chronologically?

Marshmallow 6.0 Rollout starting soon

Seems like good news for 2nd Gen Moto X Retail models.
Read this: https://plus.google.com/app/basic/s...tform=1&spath=/app/basic/+DavidSchuster/posts
If anyone captures OTA zip for retail models, please post it here.
I don't understand David Schuster... He doesn't say a word about the reason why xt1096 and xt1097 at&t doesn't get upgraded.
It's like he doesn't care from all that owners who own these models...
At lease he need to tell us why
According to frandroid.com update starts rollout today in France
I have EU 1092 (i from Czech Republic), so why he wrote Germany etc, but what means EU? It's not Germany, because version it's "retde" but i have reteu.

Worry not, I can tell you that soak test for your model has started. Your Model is the same as mine (RETail-EUrope). Next week release, if everything goes smooth.

I would have give you the link but it's useless, I just received the notification for 6.0 on my xt1092! But my battery is too low I will do it tomorrow!

He probably doesn't want to burn bridges with AT&T by publicly calling them out on it.
Finally got OTA .. XT1092 , Indian Model
I got my update to Marshmallow yesterday. Pretty impressed at the speed of this one as Lollipop took forever to arrive!!
The actual update process went very smoothly.
It's made the overall feel of the whole OS a lot nicer and smoother. Definitely feels more polished to me. Also love the unbelievable control of app permissions in this one! They've really ramped up on security here.
Another small but amazingly useful change: the addition of battery percentage!!!! Took them long enough but finally it's here in some form or another!
Everything seems to work quite well without having to reset the phone like I used to have to do when upgrading from other versions of Android.
Not tested battery life just yet but hoping it'll have improved thanks to Doze.
So far I'm very impressed with this one and am actually considering sticking to Android a bit longer as my plan was change my phone for an iPhone 7 when released as was getting really sick of the silly little Android bugs.
Got the OTA yesterday. XT1092.
Got mine today 6.0 1097 at about noon

What did I do wrong. My xt1092 became laggish especially in Chrome. Even after full wipe and cache wipe?

There are a lot of people who mentioned low performance after update. Only 6.0.1 update can fix that.

try using chromium or cm browser no lag at all on those I'm running a Brazilian 1097 twrp backup from last month on my 1095. No lag in the system but terrible with chrome. using those browsers solved my issue.
Chromium is it the same as Chrome Dev?
not only chrome many apps shows lag like instagram whatsapp facebook side scrolling phonograph(too much) .
try chrome dev or chrome beta, the animation stutter on the 3 dot menu bar on top right is not there on the beta and dev version.
also if you turn on moto voice from settings>accesibility, chrome will go berserk and start lagging more and switching it off makes it normal again.i dont know why this is happening, anyhow i already reported this on moto forums
