Google Cardboard - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If anyone has problems getting cardboard to work correctly, switching DPI from 480 (default) to 400 fixes the problem.

thanks. does it mean this phone has a real gyroscope and compass and works otherwise fine with cardboard?

Thanks for your suggestion. I have this problem either. And I dont know how to fix it ,So I flash back to stock rom for cardboard. :good:

LineageOS 16, changing dpi did nothing. Solved by creating a custom vr viewer profile with values x2.62 higher than actual.
Edit - this scale solution producing weird results.
Found better one: edit build.props
Find ro.sf.lcd_density in build.props and set to 406
ro.sf.lcd_density=406
Click to collapse
After that, to restore ui scale, change dpi to 480 from any dpi changing app.
Now it is possible to use VR profiles as usual.

[Q] Smaller font (Working?)

Okay, great device... but really annoying that most apps don't make use of the extra real estate on the screen. Most apps are just blown up versions of for example the Galaxy S2 apps. Meaning most apps are the same but 5.3/4.2 = 1.26 times bigger That's at least a pity The contacts app displays the same amount of contacts on a screen as the Galaxy S2 or S but... with a 1.26 x bigger font (compared to the S2) and 5.3/4=1.33 (lol) x bigger font compared to the Galaxy S
Fortunately there seems to be a setting in the accessibility settings that allows the user to decrease the font in some stock apps. Unfortunately this doesn't work. At least not on my device. Anyone got this working?
And yes, ICS would be a great improvement for such a big screen device.
Is that possible to set another density for the device (maybe you have to root it first)?

You'd have to root it first, and then push the density down. Not ideal, as some apps then run in a box on the screen, but it does make for smaller fonts, and you can cram more widgets on the screen etc.
I run my HD2 at 160, but then again I have had my eyes lasered!
Root
Go to system/build.prop
Open in editor
change the value of lcd from 240 to 192
See the difference.
U can always go back
All apps wont be scaled to the new lcd value.
eg: TW in sgsII does not scale.
However i always used this value and did not use TW.
Looks very interesting but I'm afraid that I'm not s pro
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
density change doesn't address the question
Hey ho wait..... this wasn't the question. So does the fontsize changing option work for you guys?

I think change the font size setting in gingerbread is for display text in text editor or web browser instead of the launcher and most other application as they have their own fixed font size. You cannot do anything to those applications as they has been programmed that way.

With stock apps I mean the Samsung apps. In the accessibility settings there's an option to change the font size "in the following applications: S planner, Email, Contacts and Messaging" (as stated in the accessibility settings)
Unfortunately this setting doesn't work on my jk4 rom. Maybe others have luck on other roms. Seems like a very usuable option for the note.

My lcd.density (or so) was set to 320 on stock!
I changed it to 280 and the system looks now nicer!
Actually, I measured the tab and my calculation would be around 270-280 dpi.
Has anybody other/better data?
By the way, 1st problem after changing lcd density is in S Memo! Background seem to have a fixed 'smaller size' which are then placed wrongly
Another impact: The email-widget does not fit on screen any more (using Launcher Pro) ... Hope in ICS they will fix some of those screen size problems!

I didn't try it myself yet but I bet it will give a whole lot of trouble with almost every Samsung app on this xhdpi device. Like HTC, they exactly target the screen for which they write software. Unlike most android apps in the market, targeting screens with different specs isn't important. Scaling isn't a requirement for these stock apps. ICS will not solve the problem, because it is still up to the developer which screens will be targeted.
Anyway, back to the original question, I think it is safe to conclude that the font setting doesn't work for anyone. So it is a bug.
I have rooted my phone and tried to use Spare Parts to change the font size to Extremely Small. It works instantly and make the application much more usable. But, there is a problem: The font size will change back to Normal after few hours by itself. Anyone has the same problem?

that method also won't scale down graphics to match the smaller fonts. LCD Density Changer accomplishes that and works well.

Who's using a Custom DPI?

The default DPI of the Note 3 is an abomination. I feel like I'm looking at my parents' computer with the resolution set to 800x600, with the font and icon sizes set to max.
I routinely set my DPI to 320 (down from 480, which doesn't make sense to me) using ROM Toolbox Pro... I then use the xposed module App Settings to tweak individual apps up or down as needed. Some apps don't look or perform correctly at the tighter 320 DPI... some look or perform better at an even tighter DPI. SOME even have more features reserved only for the tablet UI.
So... who's also doing this? What DPI do you set the system to, and what apps/settings do you tweak?
I wanted to start this poll because I recently installed a custom ROM after several months of being on a custom DPI, and remembered how bad the default DPI is. I got curious if the devs could be persuaded to tweak the DPI in their ROMs, and a poll was born.
Thank you for participating.

Screen DPI

Hi, I've just jumped from my modded 240dpi N7100 note2 to brand new N910F note4 and with the 2560x1440 screen everything seems to me so huge on the screen
I have root done and now thinking about changing the size of everything on the screen to more friendly size, anyone has some experience with it on this new battle ground?
I will try to change build.prop but would like to ask first before I do something stupid.
thanks
update!!!
after changing the dpi in build.prop to 340 finished with boot loop

not yet, just going to reflesh it now with original firmware
update:
I am now after refleshing and back to stock dpi settings with no problems
did you try using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi
I used this app on my LGG3 which also has the same QHD screen and it worked perfectly
I've changed it to 480 which is about as small as I think is useful. No boot loop issues.
I did have to use the Xposed app 'App Settings' to reset the stock apps like Clock, Contacts, Camera back to 640.
The issue that everyone has that right now has no solution is the lock screen becomes misaligned.
Hi. U try to change the DPI again?

Attached two screenshots - it looks pretty "normal" since I use Nova Prime to increase icon size and such (and you need to make Font size in display large), but you can see the status bar height in the first screenshot and the size of each notification in the second screenshot - much more compact.

Yeah it's a must for me. However be aware that it will misalign the locksceen if you use fingerprint lock. It doesn't impact functionality at all, just visual so I can live with it until hopefully a dev fixes it.
Is it posibble to change the default Samsung launcher to behave like on a tablet (allow landscape) that way? Or maybe installing a different launcher is the solution (do Nova or Google Now allow it?)? I am used to tablets and would love to use my Note 4 with tablet interface...
Hello
Use xposed framework to and install "app settings". Then use a build prop editor and change the ro lcd density from 640 to 480.
Then once you've rebooted you will see that some Samsung apps (including the phone and camera) do not scale well. To fix this - change their dpi back to 640 by using the "App settings" then reboot.
Voila.

Yeah i remembered same and tested to change it to 640 but still looking bad... So i'm thinking i need change something else (also?). Is there any other app than App Settings which i can use to change some apps dpi setting?
I personally drop my dpi by 80 on all my devices. So on the note 2 I went from 320 to 240. On the Note 3 I went from 480 to 400. On the Note 4 I went from 560 to 480 and everything worked fine with no boot loops. I used Rom Toolbox to change mine. I also used App Settings in Xposed to change some apps back for usability. Like dialer, gallery, calculator, camera, etc.

WOOT - thanks for the tip man. Changed keyguard to 640 in app settings, also clicked the apply res to widgets box (not sure if needed), and then rebooted. Simply using the option to kill app didn't reset the lockscreen.
However after reboot my lockscreen with fingerprint is back to 640 and everything else is still at 480.

Changing DPI for a few apps

Is here a someone who can change DPI from stock to 460 or 480 for a stock camera and for TW? I really like lower DPI on this device and if I did it mentioned apps aren´t usable
Or small advice how can I make it will be also good. (which apk tools I need, which line I must edit inside apk, ......., ) I will try to do it myself.
Thanks

[Question] Moto Camera DPI

So I rooted and wanted to set the screen PPI/DPI to the actual calculated value of 400-403 (Motorola says it's 403 but the actual calculated value is 400.53). Problem is, it screws up the icons in the camera app and Google Search bar on the homecreen. I've attached screenshots to show you what I mean, but I'm sure most of you are aware of this happening as it tends to when you lower the DPI/PPI. The screens of the screwed icons are at 403 DPI/PPI and the screens where the icons are fine are at the default 480 DPI/PPI.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Or is it just something that can't be helped at lower DPI/PPI values?
How did you change your DPI? I read that the adb method alone is not enough. You must change the value on build.prop too. Making the two things may work.
update app camera via Google Play Store que resolve!!!!
Or use appsetting to change dpi in apps.

I have this exact same issue. I changed DPI to 400 using adb. I also have profile picture thumbnails messed up in both Viber and Whatsapp. So far I haven't found any solutions. Changing DPI to 360 works for the camera, but not for thumbnails in Viber or whatsapp.
I'm using 440. Stock is 480. If you in increments of 40 it works. Try 400

PPI is a hardware component i.e how many pixels are there in a inch of screen.
DPI is a software component in broad terms i.e how much area a software is allocated. so changing it to too low will have bad effects.
change the DPI to 430-440 it looks nice and it will solve your problem.

it would be easy if you are rooted. simply go to /system/build.prop and look for ''ro.sf.lcd_density=480'' and change it accordingly.

Do what I did, install the AppSettings via Xposed, choose the DPI you want normally in build.prop, In the AppSettings settings, select Motorola Camera and place it in the DPI 480 (stock), so I use here without problems.
