Depressing cracked screen - Nexus 6 General

Well after a year of heavy abuse I finally did it. I was surprised as it was in the case, not terribly surprised as it did fall. Well I can't afford $175 to send it in, I don't trust myself repairing. I bought the Note 5 when it came out and immediately went back to the Nexus 6. So I have JoD but there is no phone I am interested in that they offer. Only OEM phone I am interested in would be the m9 because at least they have a few AOSP roms. Samsung doesn't because of stupid Exynos, LG appears to have a very WIP AOSP. So now I can deal with cracked screen or use my crappy note.
I remember back in the day before security was hot topic almost any flagship could have a Nexus like experience. Now a days your pretty much stuck with stock roms and depending on carrier root may not even be possible. In 2015 looks like only options for AOSP is Nexus, Moto, and HTC(via custom rom).

So it's for sure been a year since you purchased your phone? If not, you have your one year warranty through Motorola still? If you are, that sucks. Fortunately mine occurred within the one year lol

Hope you get it fixed asap. AMOLED displays are expensive, 175 $ sounds fair when you compare that to 90$ of Samsung S3 i9300 display.

Just prepare your wallets for the lg v10. That phone is sick and the drop test is insane. Military grade drop specs

For now using note 5, at least it has a better screen and camera. Even still Nexus is a Nexus. I don't even care about roms and root. I just don't like bloaty skins.

I also bought my phone through T-Mobile so I am pretty sure I don't have Moto care and its probably been a year anyway

Right Decision?

Hey guys,
I wanted the nexus one ever since it first got announced. unforunately for the first month and a half it was exclusive with tmo bands. Come around March, i heard the ATT version was released and i told myself i was gonna get it. I put up my iphone 3gs and to my surprise, nobody bit. they were all trying to trade their iphones for the nexus one att version, just like i was.
fast forward to last week, i bought a htc desire (telus, so it works with att) from a friend. It was a awesome phone, but the nexus one bug was still inside me. Everytime i would see comparison videos against the desire, i would tell myself how pretty and attractive the nexus one is. I couldnt take it anymore, so i went on ebay, searched all day today, and than right when i thought all hope was lost, one ad popped up. "never used, refurbished by HTC Nexus One ATT". I did the BIN which was 425 with 15 dollar shipping. Now selling the desire for 550ish. My question is, with tech advancing so fast these days, did i make a good investment in buying a mint att nexus one for a whopping 425? or should i have waited for the dual core phones from samsung.
be brutally honest guys. and btw, the nexus one is going to share primary phone duties with my iphone 4.
I think it's worth it. The N1 is amazing.

I agree. The N1 is still the best all rounder phone (notification lights, great GPS receiver, perfect size). Unless you play very graphic intensive games on your phone...you'll be just fine without a dual-core processor. I just feel sorry for your poor iPhone 4..you're gonna be so mad at the little things it can't do like long kinetic scrolling in the browser, lack of configurable color LED notifications, flash in the browser, ability to change to different notification sounds....
In my opinion, currently, there is not a single phone that, in overall quality, surpasses the nexus one.
It's just "pure" - no UI additions, no craziness. Just solid, beautiful phone. Oh, and it just feels so good to the touch.
There are phones that has advantages over it here and there.. but overall, N1 is still the king of the hill for me.
It sounds like you made a little money selling the desire and getting the N1 so I guess it wasn't dumb. I personally think the desire is a bit cooler looking than the nexus so I would have kept that. They're basically exactly the same, right?
I really like my nexus one. Recently the battery life has even become better on the stock rom. However if someone was about to buy it now I would tell them not to bother. The touch screen sucks — it can only detect two points and gets confused doing that, it also gets messed up when the phone warms up in my car dock. The screen is also nearly impossible to see in bright daylight.
Not sure what android phone I'd prefer though. Wish there was a galaxy s with an HTC body.

Remember that all the leaked Sammy devices are for T-MOBILE.
AT&T is in the process of switching bed partners from Apple to Microsoft. I count us AT&T users lucky that we got an AT&T banded N1 to begin with. Regardless of what the person with incredibly large hands may say about the Dell phones, the N1 is the best Android phone on AT&T and will be for some time until the next Dev phone makes its way (fingers crossed) to AT&T bands.
Until then, enjoy the BEST custom roms ever made right here at XDA. This phone gets better ever month, and next month when the customized gingerbread roms appear, it will be better again.
I totally agree my friend

Not worth it, IMHO. Once you get it, post back and let us know how you like it, and if YOU feel you got your money's worth.
I think its not worth it. Don't get me wrong it's the best phone I have ever had. All the Sidekicks (1,2,3 and lx etc.), from there to g1 (great classic) and a N900 with a few other phones.
I traded my N900 and got an nexus plus $200 bucks. best deal ever !!!!!!!
I would not sale my nexus it's is the best phone out to me. Perfect build, and feel. Googles baby you just can't beat that.
AND THE BEST COMMUNITY FOR ANY PHONE KNOWN TO MAN.
A CLASSIC THAT NEVER DIES ..... CHUCK NORRIS LOL. j/k
But, if your not happy with your choice there always someone with that same burning feeling you had to get one that will pay 500+.

Get the Atrix now or wait?

I really need help on my decision to upgrade my phone.
Now, I can wait. I'm not in too much of a rush. I just want to know if I'll be truly satisfied if I upgrade now.
Especially people who already got the Atrix, if they have any regrets, do share.
Just read that AT&T and Samsung are holding a special event May 5! SGS2!!!!!! I guess I'll wait lmao.

I would say wait for a while...there will be a number of new phones out by the time the iPhone 5 comes out.
If you really can't wait, which was my case, go to Best Buy and get either the Atrix or the Inspire. I got the Atrix there for $100 as an upgrade. I have 30 days to return it and no restocking fee lol I most likely will return it before my 30 days are up, but at least I tried it.
Get the Atrix now.
Skip the atrix. I made a mistake buying it right when it first came out. I reget not waiting for the S2.
I feel like the Atrix had potential, but it came short. There's so many mixed opinions on it.
I really hope Samsung announces either the SGS2 or the Nexus S 4G on Thursday. I really want a new phone. I think I'm done being an iPhone user. It sucks when EVERYONE has one.

I had the iPhone 4 and got rid of it before my 30 days cause I felt tied down! I got the Captivate instead and it was great! I felt free to do as I pleased! but it's main issue was the lack of updates and horrible gps...now I'm trying the Atrix and it is amazing compared to other phones I've had! This phone is quick and the battery lasts for a long time! My only issues with it is that I don't like the cameras, power button location and people don't hear me clearly (maybe that is a software issue). If those things were fixed then it would be the greatest phone lol
Personally the Atrix is worth it I love it locked bootloader and all its a beast! Every phone coming out is a wannabe sgs2 overclocked just to keep up, lg optimus 2 bleh its half the man the Atrix is lol, and what else is out there nothing everything else is a 1ghz whimp lol. But I would say wait. I didn't wait to get my lg quantum and a month later att was selling it for a penny yes a penny and waiving the upgrade fee. Boy did I feel like I had been robbed, and att is nutorious for doing stunts like that so again Id say wait a bit.
But thats just my 2 cents

I just switched over to the Atrix this weekend from the iPhone 4, and i wouldn't even consider another apple phone after playing with android. you are so tied down, and limited on the iphone its stupid. I just wished I would have gotten a android phone sooner.
I'm going be switching from Nexus s to atrix, I'm really excited
I just switched from an iPhone 3GS and I already really like it (I've only had it two days, but I had it set up to my liking in a few hours. I would like to eventually root it, but I may give it the 30 day return window just in case).
Everything seems just as smooth and fast (some things faster) as my mom's iPhone 4. There are some things android does better, some things iPhone does better.
To me, the main drawback is the locked bootloader. To me, that impacts the future value of the phone (both for resale and for use). I guess that doesn't matter as much if you upgrade every year, but I don't tend to.
It really comes down to what you're upgrading from.
I had no choice as I had a busted crapberry storm work/personal phone that no longer registered my keystrokes and going back to an crackberry 8830 as my work / personal phone wasn't going to cut it, so I decided to go for the Atrix as my personal phone.
No regrets & plenty of satisfaction as it's my first Android phone that was built for Android But if the Samsung Galaxy S II comes out within the next 15 days, my Atrix goes back for an exchange
Forget the atrix, go for the galaxy s2. As soon as my s2 arrives my atrix is going on ebay. Screw this locked bootloader business. Also, the screen is crap

Well I'm disappointed with samsung's announcement today. I was really hoping for the gs2. The infuse is way too big and the specs aren't what I wanted. I might just wait until the iPhone 5 and compare my choices then between the android phones out at the time and the new iPhone.

awesome, cant wait
While I hate the locked bootloader and the slow-going data speed improvements, I knew about them before I got the phone and I have had very few issues with the atrix performing as it should. However many developers there are for this phone, they have made the modifications that are possible easy to implement and help work through bugs very willingly. Granted, I am coming from the samsung eternity- and I am embarrassed to admit that- but this forum has given me hope that this phone can reach its potential. I got an early upgrade at no extra cost, would not even be upgrade eligible today, so I was locked in with at &t but knew I could never be an apple tart. The car dock rocks the house, errrr, car.

Well, I have an iPhone 3GS. My upgrade isn't until August but my mom's account is due for an upgrade. I'm not sure if I want to keep going with an iPhone but supposedly Apple is going to do a new UI and it might have a 4" screen which is perfect. Android has really been interesting me. My favorite thing is the notification system. It's just so perfect. I'm probably gonna wait and hopefully at WWDC, Apple will show off the new iOS, and if it's enough to wow me, I'll probably getting the iPhone 5 once it comes out.

Would you still buy the N4 today?

Hi, i'm an Atrix owner, and my dad's phone just died, so i thought that i could buy a new phone for me and give my atrix to him. It will have more than he can use anyway.
So, i'm trying to go with the best for under $300 (unlocked). I suffered the Motorola's lack of updates with my Milestone and this Atrix, so i want a futureproof device (balanced with the price). So my first thought of course is the Nexus. If it gets 5.0 i'll be happy for another year i guess.
But i don't know what's in the market right now, so maybe i'm missing another good device for the price, or maybe the Nexus 4 is not as good as it looks. So that's why i'm asking what the title says.
Would you still buy the Nexus 4?
Thank you.

I gave my old lady my old Atrix and grabbed the Nexus.
Now I'm trying to talk her in to getting one.
The price now @ $249 to performance ratio can't be beat considering you own the phone out right, no contract crap.
Get updates on day 1 release, it will get 5.0
The camera is decent enough I find...after all it's a phone.
If you don't care about the lack of a SD card and a non removable battery. Then it's def worth it
After the Atrix you'd be very happy with it.
I'd get a case for it the as it's an extremely slippery phone though.
If you're on a budget and looking for unlocked and properly priced, then yes, it's perfect. You don't get 4G LTE out of the box, and you only get it with fixes and always changing the settings back. If not having 4G LTE is fine, then yes, it's your best bet. MetroPCS and Boost are selling the SIII for $400 still. You still get a year warranty of course when you buy it from Google.
Only if I didn't already own one. Why?
1. Price/performance ratio is insane
2. Dev support is lively
3. LTE on Tmobile
4. No contract
5. Storage fits my music collection
6. Dat back
so seems buying n4 still worth it if you just want to use it for a decent purpose only, am I right ? I'm not a type of person who loves to rooted or change kernel to phone.
I did 3 days ago and its flying
I got mine the other day. Coming from a GS3, I am more then happy with the N4. Will I get an N5 when it comes up, most likely but depending on the price maybe not as soon as it is released.
My wife picked up a HTC One. Spec wise and quality build that is on the HTC One is top of the line right now but I would not take one over the N4. There is just something special about a Nexus device and it runs fantastic.
Looking at this thread i am going to say a big YES http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nex...y-google-play-store-1642317?page=104#comments
Yep. Just bought another N4 (to replace a stolen N4) and it has been a good idea
Its the best. No doubt about it. Just go for it. I'd buy it again if I have to. Best performance with such specs at this price. Just brilliant.
I did. Am selling my Xperia Z for profit, and got an Nexus 4 for £159. Much prefer the look, feel and performance over the Sony. Love it.
For some stupid reason, it still costs Rs. 24,990 ($ 379) in india (flipkart.com). Were it not for this silly pricing, i would have bought it a long time back.

I would but just because of the value. For $200-$300 you get a great unlocked phone. It isn't the best phone but it definitely is for the price range. It definitely does have it quirks though. For one I hate the fact that I am limited to 16gb of storage as there is no SD Card slot. Google however has great cloud based apps so you really don't need 64gb. For me, I have 30+ GB of music and its all on the cloud with Google play. Even when your offline you still have access you your music though because the app very conveniently caches songs periodically to keep some stored locally (I have about 2gb local). The screen is not full 1080p which is becoming the norm now and not to forget the phone has horrible color calibration, which can be fixes with a custom kernel. The phones battery life also isn't the greatest... As a pretty heavy user I probably would have to charge it at least once throughout the day. The camera also is pretty crappy and so is the speaker.
Bottom line. The phone is definitely worth every cent but it does have its issue. There are plenty of phones better than it but they're all $600+ phones. So yes even today, I would say to Stoll get it for the value
I definently would,
given there has just been a price drop of 100$ on both versions!
Now there is really no way to beat the price.
Take the 8 gb version for example and look at other models in the same price range.
You see things like the Samsung Young, which really are no match at all for the Nexus 4!
Try and name 1 device for under 400$ that is better, I think you will have a hard time.
And now the Nexus is only half of that!
I just ordered mine last week when the price dropped. I have been using the Galaxy Nexus for the last year and will likely never purchase another non-Nexus device ever again.
For me, it was all about value. As others have mentioned - it is pretty hard to beat the current 199/249 price point that these are available at right now. I had originally planned on holding off until the N5 was released but simply couldn't pass up this deal.
Now just anxiously waiting for it to arrive!
I just did - a few days ago. I was never happier. :cyclops:

Note 5, s7 Edge or Note 7?

So, I'm due an upgrade. A certain electronics dealer (not sure if it would be against the rules to name them) is running 2 promos: 1) Get a Note 5: get a $250 gift card at time of purchase. 2) Get any of the s7devices (Edge/Note too) and get a free 32" Sammy Smart TV. I don't really need the tv but the mother in law could use it. So, I literally cannot decide which to get. They have pros and cons all around. I'm a trucker, so my concern about the Edge's display is whether the glare along that curve would be annoying or distracting. My wife's s7 hasn't lagged yet, but reviews of both Notes mention lag (precious few reviews of Note 5 after MM update). Most reviews can't call a clear-cut "pick this one." And so, the freebies enter the equation. What do you guys think? I'm sure some of you had the 5. Do you think the 7 is significantly better? That it performs better?
Depends, I have been a note fan for along time. I use the s pen a bunch, and love the 5.7 inch screen size. I would say if you ate a note fan , and use the s pen a lot then go with the note 7. If you don't use the pen the the s7(or edge) would be good. I had the note 5 as my daily phone for a year, it's a solid phone, but the note 7 is better. The IP68 rating is awesome and I take the note 7 everywhere without worry about the weather. The battery performance is soo much better than the note 5 as well. I also was able to get the 256gb SD card for the Note 7 and its been great to be able to have all my music in my phone again. Hope this helps.

Sorry for lateness of reply. I've been testing an s7 Edge and an iPhone 6s+ to see if either is a suitable "upgrade." Can't do the iPhone. It's just too limiting. BUT since the Note 7 is officially done for, is the Note 5 "just as good?" I use the S Pen semi-regularly, but it isn't essential. I can do what I do without it. So I'm down to these 3 phones: s7 Edge which is ok but I'm UNimpressed with its performance. Seriously. I expected better, for some reason. LG v20 which is costly and even the AT&T rep was telling me "I've had literally 10 LG V10s returned in 6 months for manufacturing flaws." I asked her to elaborate and she said "Screen issues. Lines and such." Or the Note 5. If the s7 isn't flawless IMO, then how can a half generation older device be any better? Any input is appreciated.

I think it depends who you ask, and of course what you want to use it for. It isn't a bad device, but to give you an idea, I skipped the Note 5 in favor of my Note 4 at the time because of the removable battery and no SD card. The Note 7 however, was new enough to get me over to the other side and give the "no removable battery" a go (one of the added reasons was also the 256 GB SD card lol).
Right now, my personal options for a new phone are Pixel, V20, S7 Edge or back to my old Note 4 for the time being. And in all honesty, unless I like how the S7 Edge feels within a cover, I'll likely end up with my Note 4 again. I need the space an SD slot can provide me, and well, I'm still kind of hooked to the idea of being able to remove a battery and put a new one in

Like you, I held off on the 5 because of those issues. But I'm not a huge fan of the edges/curves. There's not a case on the market that provides decent protection for it simply due to the design. To make matters worse, Zagg pulled its tempered glass protectors because they weren't staying on. Haven't found one yet that does. Functionally, it's an awful design. It's easily broken. The v20 is an option, but it's really expensive, and I just can't justify that for an LG. They don't deserve it. I've never had luck with LG devices lasting. I'm not even remotely interested in the Pixel, but my Note 4 screen has burn-in. The s7 Edge isn't awful, but I was hoping for more in terms of performance. I may just return this one and get a regular s7.
The closest thing to the note 7 is the note 5.. I'm actually using both of them till I return my note 7..lol
I got the N5 when it came out, i was hesitant about the battery and memory (reason i got the 64gb) but i have had no issues. Im glad i didn't sell it. Its in perfect condition.

Hmm, I think that's a bit the thing. While I have read others saying similar things, I never had any issues with LG Prada that I had when it first came out. I loved that phone at the time.. but granted, it's also the only LG I ever owned so I don't really know for sure how the brand holds up with other models.
I bought an LG TV & Sound plate, and have owned a G2 & Tab 7.0. only the Tab 7 still works. Also, WAAAAY back in the day I had an LG Vu (in the pre-smart phone era). The $200 rebate helps lean me towards it.

I agree, ATT is a lot more expensive, not just phones but also with the plans. Sadly it's also the only one (together with Verizon, but I want GSM for my trips to Europe so no chance I go to them) that has decent coverage in my state. T-mobile really lacks when it comes to coverage, their customer service isn't that great either in all honesty. The price is right, I agree, if only they had decent coverage then I could live with it I guess.
This might be good for us.

I wanted to hold out with my N7 but when they banned them on flights I figured just switch and deal with it...I went with the s7 edge because it was the closest to the N7...I've had it a few weeks now and it's okay. does most of the things the N7 did...I am unhappy with the screen size and do wish I had the stylus...Battery life is similar..But I do feel like I have gone backwards...
I have been calling ATT cust service and my local store trying to convince them to let me get the upgrade when the N8/S8 comes out but they wont...so I'm unhappy I'm locked into this Next contract with a year old phone..
I read Samsung may be doing upgrade offers to the N8 for N7 owners so there is still hope....
This S7 edge is an okay replacement to get us thru but its not a N7....

You're not necessarily locked into it though.. if you have the Next 12, and if you still have several months to go until the 12 months, you could pay forward to get the upgrade. The rules are pretty much saying that it needs to be paid for 12 months, not that you cannot upgrade for 12 months. Meaning, you pay a few months extra (let's say it comes out in august, you would have to pay 2-3 months extra probably). It isn't a favorable option since the phone you're essentially renting from them becomes more expensive to rent, but I have had it confirmed by an ATT rep that this is indeed possible to do.

DISCUSSION how is the price going down on swappa?

I was trying to sell one pixel 2 xl on swappa and the prices are going crazy low. How are all these people selling new 128 GB for just $700ish range ? The phone isn't really that old yet.
Verizon's running a $300 off on it.
I'm noticing the same thing. I considered selling my 2 XL and picking up a OnePlus 5T. When I took a look at pricing on SWAPPA I was very surprised to see the current prices people are selling the phone for. Previously, the Nexus/Pixel line-up held their value much better than what I'm seeing with the current 2 XL. It's sad but I think it can be chalked up to all the bad publicity this phone keeps receiving. Talk of these issues is seemingly more widespread than I thought.
For instance, on Christmas day a family member was checking out my phone and even though he is not a tech guy by any means, even he brought up the screen burn-in issues as well as the speaker buzzing noise issues. It threw me off, to be honest. Especially considering that this is a guy who never researches phones and has stuck with the Galaxy phone line-up simply because I recommended it to him like 3 years ago.
There is a reason why both Google and the carriers have already dropped the price. It sucks and it's directly affecting resale value.
On the plus side, I've experienced no issues with my device and it's the best phone I've ever owned. So this is just a good nudge for me to hold onto it and enjoy it longer, rather than making a jump to something else and inevitably regretting it.
Add to this, the starting prices were up there with the iPhone X and Samsung Note 8! Previously Nexus phones were a good bit cheaper than the highest premium phones...this is why they were able to hold value longer.
True. Personally, I don't consider Verizon to be a viable option because it is locked down. It equates to a regular Samsung phone at this point that is locked, but that is not what everyone thinks.
What really gets me is the price. Google did not do any price drops, they just did the holiday specials which was like 50 or 75 bucks.
But on swappa some people are selling the 128 for about 700 bucks. I don't know how they're getting the phones so cheap to sell them for that price. I hope the phone doesn't end up being like the essential phone what the pricing

Touchwiz on a Sammy device is not quite the same as having a Google device, whether or not you bl unlock, but that's just me. Anyway, they are selling for closer to $800 new or mint. On the Google store you can get a brand new one for about $875. But perhaps you are forgetting about the trade in too. I can trade in my old Pixel and get another $300+ off that price. So I really don't think it has lost as much value as you suspect. And as for the Verizon branded one I paid $350 on BF (Pixel XL) with no trade in. If I sold it for $650 and used my old Pixel for another year I just netted close to 3 hundred. Personally, I think we're doing ok so far. Let's see in 6 months, however.

True. I am hoping it doesn't plunge down..I just think the google one should and would hold the price against the Verizon one. It's like in the old days, Verizon and att phones had lower prices used than the T-Mobile ones because of the unlocked bl stuff.
Maybe I am just mad that since the pixel XL last year held up the price value well for a few months and didn't really drop dramatically except when the pixel 2 s were announced.

As for last year you really can't compare, unfortunately. Google didn't give 5 cents off the Pixel or the XL even on black Friday. Verizon had one day, and that was BF, that they gave a tremendous deal of $10 / month and $15 for the XL for 24 months. That was it! Eventually they had a lame trade in deal but nothing from Google. This year is way different. There is really no reason to be spending more than 4 or 5 hundred for any of the devices with trade in at Google and VZW. I mean I believe that VZW even has a $300 off with no trade in! But then you're locked into them for 2 years and no bl unlock. So I believe that the price will not drop past the 6 or 7 number for some time. But I've been wrong once or twice..

Touchwiz has come a long way imo. The note 8 is a beast and it runs touchwiz, it junk back on like S3 & S4 but now it is great!
Also the pixel has $300+ off but I got $425 off my note 8 and had it the day it was released thanks to a preorder! I think I was like $570 ish for the note 8 out the door and shipped so the $300 off for the pixel seems quite small now! Let's see what it is in 6 months glad I sent my first few pixels back and got the newer $75 off savings!

I've gotta agree with this. I was pleasantly surprised with the Touchwiz UI on my Galaxy S8. It never stuttered or lagged and was just as fast as my previous Pixel XL and current Pixel 2 XL. Touchwiz really has come a long way. The same cannot be said for the LG V30, however. LG's skin on that phone is absolutely horrible. It lags/stutters/hangs constantly and no matter how many LG apps you disable, it doesn't fix it.
If LG would have just refrained from touching the OS on that phone and left it with stock Android, I never would have bought my 2 XL to begin with. Such a sad let down. The V30 is just collecting dust on my office shelf. I need to take it back to T-Mobile but I keep forgetting about it.

I'd agree with this as well. My last Samsung device was the GS7 Edge and I was quite impressed. The performance was great and while not quite as fluid as the Pixel, was very consistent and stable, never slowing down over time. I think Samsung's kitchen sink approach from years past has paid off in the sense that the software additions they've kept are generally pretty useful and thoughtful additions not available in the pure Android experience.

Oh man the LG phone software dept is need of a revamp. It has been awful! I had a G4, G5, & G6 and literally could only use for a few days it was so bad!
I agree they have good hardware but their software is just plain awful! Send the v30 to me I'll test on Verizon!!

Yeah you should try the s8 or note 8. They are extremely fluid compared to the pixel not quite as fluid but very very close. Also the extra ram in note is helpful especially with the kitchen sink approach

I would but I've got it on my JUMP-On Demand program so I need to keep it to trade in on something else, at some point. I'm considering trading it in for the iPhone X to mess with for a while.

Man I wouldn't. The Iphone X is so small and weird UI imo the swipe thing is odd, the notch is odd, no fingerprint is odd and then small screen. Just get note 8 and be done!

Eh, I'd prefer to turn the V30 in for nothing in return but then I'd lose my JUMP On-Demand. So I'll probably just trade the V30 in on a super cheap $5/month phone to have as a back-up, just in case.

Not against the note. I've just decided to hold on to the 2 XL because it's been great. I just need a cheap phone to keep my JUMP On-Demand program with TMobile. No sense in paying $30/month for the note to just throw it in a drawer.

I see. I think the note & pixel combo is going to be hard to beat. That's what I'm going to be switching between

If I traveled more for work I'd probably get the note 8 to have the stylus, allowing me to be more productive with my phone on the go.
It's definitely something I may start considering, actually.

I mean I don't travel on the road but I love almost everything about phone except just slightly too tall and fingerprint sensor placement. I use pen to keep screen clean if hands are dirty etc
