a bit confused: which ROM ? - Redmi Note 2 General

Hello,
My Redmi note 2 does not do the automatic updates via the updater app and I am stuck on 5.9.2 beta.
I realized that I probably do not have an official rom (since I have GoogleAppStore) and that might be the reason why the updater will not connect to the servers.
So I think I would be better off wiping and flashing my phone to reinstall a rom. My question is this: which rom should I install ? I see a lot off different stuff that I do not understand, Official, Hermes, Global, Xiamo.eu etc... All of this is very confusing to me. All the threads consists in installation guide and are not very clear on what are the differences between theses roms.
Ideally I would need an english rom, without the chineese apps, with the GoogleStore and that could be upgraded automatically without having to wipe the phone every time.
I also see that the 5.10.15/16 miui rom is running on a new version of android. Do I need to make the android upgrade myself or does it come with the rom ? Should I be worried about bugs, loss of performance/battery life with these new roms and android version ? What are the real improvements ?
Thanks a lot !
Cheers

Where did you see that 5.10.15 works on a new version of android? I din't see anything... I only saw that it changed the sign, that now is private, so we need TWRP for update unofficial miui rom (if we want gapps and multilanguage)
For the rom:
Hermes is the codename of our device. Our roms names are HMNote2 or Hermes.
Xiaomi.eu is an european translation site. It create a weekly rom multilanguage. From miui v7 his OTA update (yes, xiaomi.eu release OTA updates) don't work fine. Update manualy downloading the rom and then installing it from updater
Global is as the xiaomi.eu rom but it's official. There isn't a global rom for our phone yet.
Official. For now the official roms are only the v6 stable and the v7 china developer. Only chinese and english and no gapps.

The official Xaiomi ROM is MIUI 7 and it came out for the phone at the same time as the hardware launch. The ROM can be downloaded here. You can pick between the developer version that's updated weekly or the stable version that is updated every six months. I believe they come with Google Apps. The ROM contains the OS so you don't need to worry about upgrading separate software. You can mostly just read about the ROM's on other threads on forums (and I suggest going to the official MIUI forums).
To flash the ROM, you can download the PC updater as well at the link.

Hi,
First of all, let me thank you for your answer.
Does this mean I should install this rom ? xiaomi.eu community threads 5-10-15-16.28809
And then do my weekly updates manually by unzipping the files ?
About the android update, you will see in the second post on the link I just sent:
"[System]
New - Android version upgraded to 5.1.1. Please note that users cannot go back to older developer version after this update, otherwise your device might face severe damages such as not able to make calls (Mi Note Pro) (10-09)"

Anyway thank you all for your answers.
I am installing the Xiaomi.eu 5.10.16 weekly. From what I understand I will need to patch and upgrade by downloading the .zip file manually.

for the non chinese the best could be a aosp rom without miui.
they are a lot more stock, you will find them in the forum if you want.

MIUI isn't better than AOSP and AOSP isn't better than MIUI. I prefer MIUI, another persons can prefer AOSP.
The best miui version... Global and Xiaomi.eu can be good, but the translations are a bit old (a week behind). All the translations community release a ROM that contain the latest rom with that language translated.
So for example miui.it release the miui with the latest italian translation, miui.es with the latest spain translation ecc ecc

miui is full of untranslated chinese bloatware and has no voice reconisation, limited hand free fonctions with bluetooth headset for example and block a lots of tweaks.
google now can be used but it will not work in hand free mode and you cant assign to a bluetooth or wired headset without unlock the phone.but the user interface and security is great.
on the other hand aosp roms have all hand free fonction intact with no chinese bloatware . but you will lose the miui avantages (the ui and security tweaks),aosp is very stock but you can add your launcher and extra apps and fonction like xposed (walkman/xperia stuff or dolby atmos...)

I don't see chinese bloatware untranslated... Are you using the chinese developer rom or a xiaomi.eu rom? And which language?
I never had problems with miui.
I don't need extra functions because all that I need is in miui.
I like miui style, and I didn't find anything similar to it on AOSP or CM themes. Or I'm wrong?
Ps I don't understand the launcher thing... I can also change it on miui...

i am using the french dev rom for the moment with included root ,gapps and ota updater.
well yes you can change the launcher in miui but it takes lots of ram by default,
the chinese browser, the mi market, kuaipan are bloatware not realy nicely translated.
the music ,market, gallery,fm radio, video and theme app have a lots of chinese unstranslated shop pages and those shops are not usefull at all here.
especialy the untranslated themes that add chinese part to your phone.
and to me the lack of hand free voice reconisation on a phone is just a killer .

in xiaomi.eu rom (italian language):
-Browser -> translated (and the default page is google)
-MiMarket -> removed
-Kuaipan -> translated and integrated in File Manager (so you can use only File Manager)
-Music, Video -> online services removed
-Gallery, FM Radio -> no chinese services...
-Themes -> Nobody translate the themes, only the official themes are translated
-Free Voice Reconisation -> Just install an app for it. in my opinion this technology is too slow so I use the keyboard
So, what is the problem? Maybe you are using the wrong ROM?

well do you have root?
my security center has root manager.
and as i said the hand free mode of most 3rd party apps cant be used in miui because it just does not allow to be trigered by a headset without unlocking the phone.
and as i am seeing your miui have lots of stuff removed.
does it support natively french language ?
i did not flash the rom myself,
when i purchased my phone on xiaomi france site,i
had this rom on it. i receive an ota update every weeks so i am guessing it is the most untouched miui you can get.

Yes, I have root.

miui france provide a untouched rom and xiaomi eu make a global rom with most chinese services removed.
i switched by using the included update app and it removed most chinese stuff.
but the hand free limitation is still a problem...

Try this. On my phone work

Redmi Note 4G LTE - MIUI-KHICNBF96.0.1

Just got this little beast to play around with yesterday.
My minote4G is based on KitKat 4.4.2 running on MIUI V5, wondering if there's already any upgrade version to V6 for my Redmi Note Type mentioned above? ...
I read the forum here and miui english forum and seems to have so many types of Redmi Notes with different Type of ROM official Code. This is my first time having this confusing ROM Code compare to other handheld I have.
Appreciate it much of your help, to share some extra guidance.
I have the same ROM installed.
Looking for v6 I read a post in english miuiDotCom "[Tools, Tips & Tutorials] [MiUI Device Team] Note 3/4G - Which ROM should i use? "
There are 2 variants of Redmi Note 4G devices; (i) TDD-LTE, (ii) FDD-LTE. For both devices, you can choose between (i) 4G-Global, (ii) 4G , ROMs
4G-Global is v5 multi-languages, with google apps. 4G is v6 only chinese and english and does not have google-app preinstalled.
Roms can be downloaded from the same forum at Downloads.
Sorry I can´t post links.
Running this..it's the latest multi Miui V6 with all google apps pre-installed. No Chinese apps. Runs great and looks even better.

bigota.d.miui.com/V6.2.2.0.KHICNBK/miui_H3LTE_V6.2.2.0.KHICNBK_a7592e51ac_4.4.zip
You can checkout for updates from below link.

Redmi Note 4G - Chinese and English
Redmi Note 4G Global - Multi Language.
You can also prefer to download developer ROM if you wish to play around, but be ready to handle if there are any minor bugs coz that is dev rom.
Good luck flashing!

If coming from an older version of MIUI then you do not need to full wipe. He releases a new version every week/Friday...here is the main page. Search for the latest date and go into that folder. In this case it's 5.1.9(date being 1/9/2015)...Our phone is named "dior". Every week you can go in and get the latest build. Just flash that in recovery without wiping your data and everything will stay intact. You will need to flash the latest SuperSU zip along with the ROM to maintain root or use the built in root app. The fact that you are rooted now does not matter.

Thanks for the useful information .. :good:
After flashing the following rom ..
Android version 4.4.4 KTU84P
MIUI version MIUI 4.12.26 Beta
Baseband version MPSS.DI.3.0-39afeeb
Kernel version 3.4.0-g26e4aff-00654-g222c97
Received the message 'Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped'. However, all the applications can run without problem.
What I missed in the flashing?
If you're coming from anything besides MIUI then you have to do a full wipe....Also, no need to flash a baseband or kernel. I would start fresh with the latest build from 1/10

Talking about doing a full wipe, can I use PhilipZ recovery to do this?
Yes you can use Philz to wipe. Don't flash gapps. They're already included in these MIUI builds and it could cause issues.

Guide to debloat MIUI

I've searched but couldn't find anything useful about how to best debloat a Chinese MIUI ROM for the non-Chinese market? I'm awaiting a Xiaomi Mi 5S in the coming days which doesn't have an internatinoal ROM yet albeit any other AOSP cloaser ROM. So it will be coming with a Chinese ROM. I would surely like to debloat it properly and make Google apps available on it by default so it would be more like a normal Android phone. I've heard that MIUI is a ice ROM (only been using Nexus devices so far, but never tried anything else apart from original AOSP or some custom AOSP ROM (becase device wasn't officially supported any more by Google). So. Debloat a MIUI 8 then...

This is just for the whole google stuff, you might want to first uninstall all apps in the normal app uninstall menu.
Flash xiaomi.eu ROM as @Klanac89 said and then I use App Quarantine to freeze remaining bloatware. Works a dream.
How to disable "security" app without issues? When I try delete apk with root I have a lot of FC and other issues.

But is xiaomi.eu ROM official or is it just some other ROM that's faking officiality?
xiaomi.eu ROM is a custom rom, like CM. It just looks more or less the same and I think it's even part the same developers as the official ROM, but that's just a guess.

If they're not official devs, then I don't know how are they able to create custom ROM as Xiaomi hasn't officially released kernel sources? XDA developers can't do zilch about custom ROMS but they can. That would make them either creme de la creme of Android/Linux devs or they just have access to more Xiaomi original sources than the rest of the world does... Is there a third option?

I suppose they could be yes, but one would need either source code of all those APKs or at least a working reverse engineered source. Which gets us basically back to square one. There's a lot more APK sources than there is of the kernel. I would guess so. Which simply means much more work.
Honestly I'm not sure. I don't have an account at xiaomi.eu (yet), but maybe you want to ask your question there?

flash the mi 5s poland version rom which is official
https://miuipolska.pl/DOWNLOAD/
I haven't flashed it yet. However, from my past experience, the Polak rom comes rooted and debloated.
Hmm if that is the same as the official beta ROM, then this version doesn't yet include support for the MI 5s. That was probably completely added this week, in the new version 6.11.24 (source: http://en.miui.com/thread-417573-1-1.html). Release notes with the list of supported devices will be out tomorrow. Last weeks version included the 5s for the first time, but it was "on hold - because of new drivers", which means no download links.

No download links in 6.11.24 either. And I suspect that device listing has a typo as instead of stating Mi 5s it should likely state Mi 5s Plus which does have global ROM support. I sincerely hope there will be a global ROM for Mi 5s as well in the near future, but that may never happen. I hope my request to unlock doesn't get rejected though, so I have hopes of flashing the EU version... BTW: 6.11.24 still has Mi 5, Mi 5s (plus), Mi Mix on hold because of Qualcomm.

If this is official ROM then you should be able to flash it without unlocking your device. If an unlock is required, then I'm afraid this is not official as I'm pretty sure there is no special Polish version of the ROM. It's either Chinese or Global... Everything else is unofficial and requires bootloader unlock.

Language and Locale files or Rom?

Dear friends,
A couple of months ago i bought a Redmi 4 Prime (3gigs) from gearbest. Even though the phone Info states that its running MIUI Global 8.1.2.0.0 (MBEMIDI) i know its not the official firmware, since i got it delivered with Danish Language out of the box, well knowing Xiaomi doesnt provide danish language in any of there ROMs.
I was stupid enough to tell friends how satisfied i was with the phone, which resulted in them ordering the same phone last week...
Unfortunatly the phones are now shipped with the Original Xiaomi Global rom, that of course doesnt provide Danish language, and my friends are extremely disappointed. I promised i would try to find a solution.
So i find myself with a couple of options, and would be interested in knowing what options i can opt for.
1-Since our phones have the same spec, is there anyway i can make a backup of my system/rom and flash it on theres?
2- Is there anyway i can download the Rom that was installed on my phone and flash it on theres? so far, gearbest has not replied me with the location of the ROM they installed on my phone
3- Is there any software/guide around as how to decompile a Rom and manually add or modify languages, so that i can manually start translating every file? i have tried to apply for official danish translation at the MIUI crowdin, but the dev hasnt answered my requests in the last 6 months.
4- Locality is also a problem, as Denmark is not in the list, is there anyway to change that? It doesnt matter much, so far i'm running it as "germany" which is the same timezone.
5- I dont mind flashing Ressurection or Lineage, but would really like to run the original ROM and modify language files, is this a hopeless task? I have alot of time on my hands i really wouldnt mind translating from repo in order to aid the community.
Thank you for taking time to read my post, i hipe you can provide with some insight. Cheers!
check this and this threads.
also if the rom is from xiaomi.eu then it is an official/unoficial rom. those roms are approved by xiaomi.
Thank you for your reply. But how can it be an Official release when Danish language is never present on Xiaomi Roms? I can seem to find a release note, is there anyway to check if the Language is on the ROM before flashing it?

first of all xiaomi has two channels of official roms. china and global and both of them have stable and experimental releases. some devices like ours lack experimental global. some devices may lack global roms all together, and only have china roms. about the languages check this
if i am not mistaken there is no danish language. BUT xiaomi.eu roms probably will have danish. i suggest, if you want danish, go search for xiaomi.eu rom to flash. if not just flash the latest global developer 8.2.4. BUT i suggest unlock bootloader first, if anything goes wrong you can fix it.

Neither the global, eu, china or developpers versions have Danish as language...
Is there anyway to take the language from my "vendor" ROM and somehow integrate it into one of the Official roms of the same version, ex. 8.1.2.0.0?

this is my understanding of the miui ecosystem. xiaomi launches miui china supporting the chineese and english language, and maybe a couple more, i'm not really sure.
then xiaomi.eu comes and adds a lot of others languages spoken in europe for the global rom. xiaomi.eu also has a few other sites under it f.e. https://xiaomi-miui.gr that translates the china roms into the greek language.
xiaomi.eu and its child sites also publish roms of there own that are officially approved by xiaomi. of course those are miui roms with a few optimizations and additions. there is also some importers (i know for sure for the oficial importer of xiaomi in Greece and Cyprus) that sell their phones with xiaomi.eu roms preinstalled with 2 years guarantee. that is what i meant official/unofficial roms. i also know that some shops from china (like gearbest) that sells phones with preinstalled (or the option for them to install them before shipping) xiaomi.eu roms.
now i have no idea how to add languages to a rom, you can google it. what i know for sure is that xiaomi.eu roms are good, they are as close to stock as possible and they are your best chance to find danish language if that is what you want.

[ROM PORT REQUEST] MIUI 9 for Mi5 based on Android 8.0 Oreo by Xiaomi.eu to Z2 Plus

Hi Devs,
It's a humble request to all Experienced (Recognized) Developers/Young Developers/Members of XDA to PORT MIUI 9 ROM based on Android 8.0 Oreo for Mi5 by Xiaomi.eu to our beloved Z2 Plus device...
I know MIUI 9 by YouLinw exists for our device, but that PORT is purely based on Chinese build of MIUI 9 for Mi 5 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and is very limited to global users. No international user understands Chinese very well and they prefer the language in their preferred locale and Xiaomi.eu project enables the same and provides multi-language Official ROMs (PORT) by Xiaomi. Plus it is backed up by built-in Google Apps, so there's no need to perform any Gapps installations after flashing the ROM itself and is TWRP friendly ROM...
User/Dev Narshi Shukla has done exceptionally well in maintaining the MIUI 9 thread and providing help/support for that particular ROM PORT by YouLinw and changing/modifying many aspects of the PORTED ROM itself to make the ROM more usable to Global end users but still it lacks these three points, First is Android Oreo build and Second Gapps and Thirdly the addition of International languages/locale.
Considering the above benefits of having Globalized version of MIUI 9 for our Z2 Plus, that too on 8.0 Oreo build and with GApps included is something that many users are looking for...
I was trying to PORT this ROM my self but I'm facing technical problems with my PC hardware, as such my motherboard has got damaged and was sent for repairs to Service Centre and is with them since last few weeks and till now, no report on repairs done by them/working condition/service completion of hardware by the concerned SC... So I would request other Devs to Kindly step forward, if possible, please...
Your efforts are always appreciated and welcome guys...

Well, atleast let the ROM go stable for Mi5, as it is released just few days ago in beta. After proper release, porting maybe an option.

Agreed but the ROM is already out of Internal Alpha Testing to Private Beta Testing to Public Beta/Developer/Weekly ROM now... We can wait... There's no issue in waiting for this ROM to get PORT though...

Some users reported heat and just 3 4 hours sot, force closes here and there and there are many Oreo features are missing,
Let it progress and lets see how stable it will be after 2 3 updates,
Porting Xiaomi eu roms among other are in my list, but time management is a problem for me so it may take time.
Hope to see more devs/users trying to port MIUI based on global Branch.

That's what I said but I think MIUI 10 will be properly compatible with Oreo as MIUI is always little late implementing all the features from AOSP like the amount of time taken them to apply notification reply.

Updates for MI 9T Russia

Hi,
I bought a MI 9T few days ago from Amazon, I'm from Italy and the announcement said "global version", but I received a russian version instead…
No problems configuring it in my language and so on, but my system now is Android 9, MIUI 10.3.10.0 PFJRUXM, security patch 2019-07-01. No updates available, it says...
Searching around I've found that Global and UE versions can be updated to Android 10/MIUI 11, but there seems to be no updates for Russian yet.
Can you please confirm that?
Someon knows why (I don't think there are hardware differences, right?) and if the update will be available soon for Russian model too?
Otherwise, is there a simple way to force the update using Global or UE ROMs?
Or I better return the phone to Amazon…

Thank you for the asnwer, but i think the recovery firmware you linked is for Mi 9, not Mi 9T.
And the other one is the ROM I have already (but I don't know why the site says MIUI 11)

Sorry, yes, I overlooked that 11.0.3.0 is for Mi 9 (without T)
Then, you can see from that both sites that yours is the latest RU version released
Hi! I've the same problem that you have.
I've found the latest Russia Stable ROM with MIui 11, but still on Android 9. Anyway it's better than the MIui 10. I think we'll get the Android 10 version this or next month, don't worry.
Download (just delete the * in the link bellow)
https*://c.mi.com/thread-2930918-1-0.html
Same problem. Really odd
Ok, so today i downloaded and manually installed v 11.0.3.0, with MIUI 11 but still on Android 9 (as elstylon said) and security patch 2019-10-01.
That's the latest, at present. Hope To receive Android 10 soon...
Still I can't understand why RU models receive less updates than other versions, and always later!
(because I don't think there's any difference between Global, EEA and Russia ROMs...)
Same problem still miui 10.3.1
Hi, same problem here. Still on miui 10.3.1
Zelig where you got miui 11.0.3 for russia Mi 9t? From elstylon post? From OTA Update?
You update with choose package manually?

I've found the file on another site, but it's the same of elstylon post.
Downloaded on the phone, then forced manually update from the ZIP file.

Do you notice anything difference? Can you link it? Thanks!
There are no big news, to be honest, but in my opinion it is always worth updating, when you can (bugfixes, security patch...).

Even camera UI is still the same?
I haven't used it much before updating, so I may be wrong, but to me it looks the same...

MIUI 11.0.3.0(QFJRUXM)
Android 10
Security patch 2020-02-01

There definitely is a difference, the global version is pretty much worldwide, the EEA version is more more for the European market, Also is Widevine L1 for streaming netflix, Amazon etc... In full had. I believe the EEA models were created with the options to completely turn of ads and bloat, also complies with gdpr regulations. The Russian one I found really like the global but updates are much slower, mine came shipped with EEA. Also you can change this with unlocking the bootloader, flashing the desired rom and relocking again. Download all roms from mifirm.net
Conversion between RUX, MIX and EUX is posible without unlocking bootloader...
Here is Russian guide, use translator, is short and with pictures...
