Any negatives buying the 6P from another person? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I placed a preorder for a 128gb graphite nexus 6p within minutes but i'm in the nov 12-13 group stil. However during the last few weeks, I've decided maybe the 6P isn't right for me yet. I'm a heavy root user (and xposed user), and my OnePlus One is pretty much tweaked to perfection. I'm considering canceling my Nexus 6P preorder and putting the money into trying out photography instead.
My question is, if I were to resell the Nexus 6P to someone else, would there be any negatives for that buyer? Will they stil get the warranty for that first year? The $50 Play credit I believe goes to the owner when they activate it on the phone itself. I'd like to resell it with no markup just so I can use the $700 purchase to get some rewards on my credit card but if there are downsides to buying it off another person, I'd just cancel my preorder.

There shouldn't be any issues.
As for warranty.. I read this somewhere:
I read somewhere that the warranty is for the original purchaser only.

BUT:
This is a little late, but maybe it'll help someone else down the line. I called a Google rep and they said all the original buyer has to do is call in, give them their billing address, name, and the phone's IMEI. They'll confirm their information. Then the original buyer gives google your name, email, and billing address and they transfer the warranty to you.
All of this information was given to me under the assumption that I had received the phone as a gift. If you tell them you bought it off someone from Craigslist, I'm not sure if that would disqualify the warranty transfer..

Why not just cancel the order?

I was thinking the same thing. If you aren't marking it up to resell just cancel it and not worry about CraigsList drama or eBay/PayPal fees

i want to get the reward points from the purchase.

Best Buy deal

Went to buy the 4 With Walmart ad for price match on their $40 off deal. Found out Best Buy started deal better. Came out with Note 4 half price.
Glad I waited a little
I dont see this deal anywhere. Is this in-store only?
Not sure. I didn't know about it . My wife went to get it and when she showed the Walmart ad to him he said he had a better deal.
Gave her $150 gift card and let her use it on phone. She called me very happy as was I.
I Was just complaining about my luck the day before because Walnut was sold out.
Turns out that was a blessing!
I did a little searching. You must have gotten them to price match with the Costco deal:
http://membershipwireless.com/index.cfm/go/shop/do/PhoneDetails/productId/28256
I'm considering doing this today. Did Best Buy allow you to use the gift card on the Note 4 purchase?

Did you post a screen shot cause I don't see anything. Can you explain the deal because I just bought my note 4 from best buy on Monday and didn't get any deal. They price matched Verizon since I paid full price
Tried two Best Buys with no luck. As usual, it seems each Best Buy has their own policy. One BB said they wont price match Costco. The other said it was for new lines only. Did you get this through a new line? I just want to upgrade my line. I kinda wish I didnt goof on missing the trade in deal...

l added a line. 1 had not seen it advertised either. My wife went to pick it up with the Walmart ad and the rep told her he could do that but had something better.
She said he printed out something, then scanned a Barcode off the print out and told her she would get a $150 gift card. He then told her she could use it towards the phone.
I asked her and he never told her what it was he printed out or what. We were just elated it happened.
For reference this was in Valdosta, Georgia.
If needed I will try and post receipt
Hey! I work at Best Buy Mobile! So let me clarify this deal for you guys! It shouldn't have been a price match to WalMart or CostCo. We normally don't match ads with CostCo because you have to pay them for a membership and it isn't a public store, so they're able to afford putting up crazy-ass deals as they do, and we don't match WalMart (in the Mobile department) because almost every single phone is subsidized and the price is set by the carrier for us, so we cannot modify the price because we end up losing whatever difference in price there is as we don't get that refunded to us from the carrier. Also, we do direct contracts with the carriers that we support, unlike Car Toys and CostCo and a few other places which run under third-party contracts.
Not too sure what deal you guys got onto, but for the rest of this week only you will receive a $150 gift card per NEW LINE you start with Verizon right now. Husband and I just upgraded to Note 4s tonight by porting into Verizon from AT&T/T-Mobile and got $300 back in gift-cards, which we used to pay for the deposit that Verizon wanted from me ('cause my credit isn't too good and I was more interested in the Edge program anyway.)
So, what probably happened is that you added a new line, which qualified for the instant gift which is able to be applied toward the cost of the phone (if you're buying it on a 2-year contract, doesn't work toward your device payments via Edge [unless you have to pay a deposit]). Also just so that everyone is aware, if you're on a More Everything Plan, make sure that you're aware that this month there is a promo plan through Verizon where the 10GB plan is going for $80 and $100 for the 15GB plan.

Phones on Swappa

Already a couple Pixel XL posted for sale on Swappa.
Never takes long for that. It's called capitalism as individuals seek inflated monetary compensation.
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
yep some people buy just to sell on while they are rare as they know it is quick money from the impatient.
Swappa is outstanding.
Trying to cash in on other peoples impatience. Especially with Google phones since there have been several times Google has totally screwed up orders on new releases. Funny thing is those people buying them just to sell them just make it worse for those that are waiting for their personal orders. Watch out for warranty issues on resold phones as I got caught on it on the Nexus 4 on a phone purchased on ebay never opened and Google refused to cover the phone after 2 months. I will never buy a new phone from a third party again.
So I pre-ordered both the XL and the regular pixel and was going to cancel one, but they both shipped earlier than expected. Should I just sell one on swappa - or just return it to google. I am well within 14 days to return.
I'm in the same boat as you, but after trying to sell it, I'm just gonna return it. There's too much of a chance selling it, whereas returning it gets me back all my money.
Since you have 14 days, I'd keep it sealed and list it on Swappa. If it doesn't sell in around 10 days then you can just return it to Google instead.
My .02 cents: just return it. Less hassle and guaranteed refund.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Which one are you sending back?
Honestly, I'd just return it. I've sold over 60 phones on Swappa and, while most transactions have been fine, the few problems are enough to sour the experience. One example: I had a phone that was within its return period but returning it would have required a 200 mile drive back to the store. I listed it on Swappa and it sold quickly. Three weeks after the buyer received the phone, he left me a message saying that the phone would not boot and he wanted a refund. I asked him why he didn't say anything during the first 3 weeks. He finally just stopped responding but the headache of dealing with this type of stuff makes me avoid selling when returning is an option.
Absolutely. I only had 1 bad experience on Swappa where the buyer came back 3 months later. Finally, after going through PayPal procedures, dispute process, etc I prevailed. Just a note: PayPal policies overrides Swappa's policies. So yes, refunds are the better way to go overall if you don't want to risk that one off where a buyer could be problematic.

True the same the other way around with a less than honest seller. Not original cables, 3rd party charger, not really "mint" as youd describe it, box doesnt match device ect. Not following through with daydream vr code, not responding to warranty transfer. Usually small enough details not to be worth the hassle of returning or disputing..
Due to bad experiences at both eBay and Swappa, I no longer prefer either of these methods for selling.
I first check the going rate on eBay & Swappa.
Then I deduct like 10% from that average selling rate and list my phone on Craiglist for that price and advise "Firm Price, will not sell for one dollar less - and no trades".
I still get the jerks asking me if I'll take $200 for a phone I listed at $300.
But it minimizes some traffic.
And once the cash is handed over, there are no worries about the buyer trying to scam me or return the phone over some BS reason.
I have no issues buying a phone from Swappa though.
I'd buy there before buying from eBay.
Just mentioning my personal experience and preferences.
Not telling anyone what to do.
It usually does take longer to sell on Craigslist even when it's a mega popular phone.
There are a few XL's on there as of today that are only slightly more expensive than buying from Google (maybe $50 more). I'd say that's a prety good deal since Swappa adds $10 on top of whatever price you post.
I've bought and sold from Swappa with no negative experiences.
I have an extra pixel from Google if any one needs it. Just give me what I paid for it, been here on XDA for awhile now.

Samsung is not honoring its Galaxy S8 $200 trade-in discount for many customers

Hi, you probably read this article: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...e-discount-many-leaving-customers-frustrated/
I am still waiting for my Galaxy S8 to arrive(Monday) and after receiving will need to send in my old trade-in device. Did any one have their trade-in denied or accepted? I know that Samsung values the rejected trade-in as $25 and isn't returning the old phone back to the customer even if they return the new phone.
I was planning on sending in a Note 2. It's in very good condition, with box and charger. I figured that may increase my chances of the $200 trade in offer.
I don't understand the appeal it would be more cost effective to sell your phone and then use that money towards the s8 instead of relying on Samsung's judgement on what is acceptable and what isn't.
I really don't feel bad for the ones buying cheap phones and trying to turn them in for 200 and only getting 25

I have an old LG Optimus which is still in good condition and if Samsung won't accept it, I hope they at least give $25 back and I can always return the S8 back to them. The question is: will they give $25 back even if returning the Galaxy S8?

I thought that trade-in was if you delivered an galaxy S7. When playstation 4 got out there was a deal like that, but in truth you had to deliver an Playstation 3 and 6 recent games to have a decent discount.

You get more money for the S7 ($300 I think) but it clearly stated $200 for ANY smartphone in really good condition. If you read the small print it basically said trade in values may vary. That means they pulled a fast one and are giving almost everyone $25. Once you've traded it in you're screwed because you'll get $25 and you can't get your old phone back. So trade in a phone worth nothing, at least you'll get $25 for it.

Ah, ok. Thank you. Just a marketing move. For 25$ not even my Galaxy S3
Did anyone return items back to Samsung? This is the return policy, is it actually true: "Samsung Direct will accept, for return or exchange, defective or unopened merchandise purchased at Samsung.com/US..." So I can't open the Galaxy S8 if I want to return it?
Here is my personal experience. I ordered the S8 directly from Samsung. First the deal was $100 off, from $725 to $625. Then $200 with trade-in. I sent them my LeEco LeMax 2. I had always kept it a case and the screen was perfect. No scratches on the phone. They honored the deal, and I paid $425 for my S8. Actually $457 with tax. It did state in the fine print that they reserve the right to make the final judgement, so they could say this phone wasn't eligible, but I personally think this has more to do with people trying to pull a fast one by purchasing a cheap Walmart phone for $50-$100 and returning it for a $200 discount. If you are honest with them, they are honest with you. They want people to come back to Samsung. The overall sales numbers for the S8 has been down after last years fiasco with the Note. They are not looking to create another public relations fiasco.

Thanks for your input! I have the same deal as yours and my new phone should arrive today. I do have an old LG Optimus which I would rate 8/9 out of 10 easily. Practically no scratches in overall, no dings, works perfect and battery life is long too. I could give it to my mom, but she likes her Nokia feature phone as she only calls on it. I just hope that Samsung will honor it because by my understanding it is in good working condition/order.

They said my S6 edge does not meet the "normal tear and wear" conditions., which, by Samsung standards if they have any, I don't think any devices would pass unless they are brand new.

Here is what I did when ordering an unlocked S8+
They unlocked S8 Plus is normally $850, got it for $470
1. 20% discount for students (search for Samsung student discount). Discount is based on full price.
2. Samsung $100 discount for unlocked phones (not sure if this is still available)
3. $200 trade-in credit
I placed the order last week, direct from Samsung. Website and CSR said it was back ordered 2-3 weeks, but a few days later I received the shipping notification and I received the phone today.
For the trade-in:
1. Called Samsung sales and spoke with a CSR. I confirmed that the $200 trade-in credit applies to a phone that (a) runs any verison of Android or iOS, (b) powers on and holds a charge, (c) does not have a cracked or damaged screen), and (e) has only normal signs of wear-and-tear. I confirmed with the CSR that any phone that meets these requirements would work, no matter how old or cheap. I also verified that minor scratches to the phone's screen or body were considered normal wear and tear and would not cause the trade in to be rejected. Finally, I recorded the phone call in case Samsung doesn't honor the trade-in.
2. With the above in mind, I purchased a brand new Alcatel phone from Walmart for $20. (can't post link, too new).
3. I will be sending the phone back to them tomorrow and I'll see what they do.
Other notes from my conversation with the CSR:
* Samsung's return policy is that items may be returned within 30 days. You have 15 days from *receipt* to initiate the return, and Samsung must receive the item within another 15 days.
* Officially, the item must be unopened to receive a full refund. Opened items are subject to a 15% restocking fee. The CSR told me that is is noramlly uncommon for Samsung to charge the restocking fee for items (even opened ones) that are returned in excellent condition, with all original accessories.
So far I like the phone, but not sure if I will be keeping it or exchanging it for a normal S8. I'm also not thrilled with the absence of a way to unlock the bootloader. This is my first experience with a Samsung phone and I kinds of just assumed that like my ZTE, an unlocked, non-carrier phone would have the bootloader accessible.

About 30% off. At $500 it's the best budget phone . Even the OP5 128GB is $538
To get the $200 coupon, you need to fill out the form by Nov 15th: https://www.essential.com/pages/friends-and-family-offer.
Coupons expire Dec 15th.
(Psst, wouldn't mind if somebody sent me a code as a thanks for digging the form up. . Been looking to upgrade from my 5X.)
EDIT: Just some clarification, this is separate from the $200 price drop on the Essential Phone. Combined with the friends and family coupon, you can pick up a new PH-1 for $300. You can also use the $200 friends and family coupon on the 360 camera as well.
At $499 I look at the 128GB Essential phone as the next gen true successor to the Nexus 6P, and I am going to buy it this week. The Pixel 2 XL @ $950 is nearly double the price, and absolutely insanely overpriced for what you get compared to the Essential. They share nearly the same hardware, except the water resistance, and the 2 XL being larger of course with bigger battery. But the build quality on the Essential is supposed to be like best ever for Android phones.
And I dare say the Essential OS is AOSP, and seems almost more pure Android than where Google is taking these Pixel phones, if you get my understanding. The Pixel line sort of forked off a little different, than where the Nexus phones were going, and Essential is more back to that version of pure Android.

Is anyone else feeling generous? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!
it might be a good deal if you are not on the Verizon network, where the phone is not capable of supporting VoLTE or any of the advanced features that pretty much every phone Verizon sells supports. That means you will not be able to have simultaneous voice and data.
I thought people got volte working by toggling some settings on and off on the phone itself as well as on their VzW acct online.
If anyone can spare a code, I'd definitely be interested in getting a ph-1 to tinker and try to find some more answers on the slow TMobile speeds.

Wow that dropped in price quickly, tbh after testing the phone I think price is about right.
I was pretty disappointed with the phone, seemed like a rushed job. Battery life poor, camera okish, speakers low
Design great, material good, software to bare!
Fortunately I returned mine as it a fault.
At £440 it's worth another shot in green or white
If anyone has a spare coupon which will not use, do not let it waste. PM it instead
can any one give me code ? pls ?

Does anybody would like to send me his spare code please?:fingers-crossed:

EDIT: Just some clarification, this is separate from the $200 price drop on the Essential Phone. Combined with the friends and family coupon, you can pick up a new PH-1 for $300. You can also use the $200 friends and family coupon on the 360 camera as well.

I already got the camera.
It would be nice to be able to use the code to get a charging pad.
But at the very least I'll get another phone, a white one this time.

it might be a good deal if you are not on the Verizon network, where the phone is not capable of supporting VoLTE or any of the advanced features that pretty much every phone Verizon sells supports. That means you will not be able to have simultaneous voice and data.

VoLTE is working fine for me on VZW.
I'm thrilled about this deal. I'm going to order a phone for my wife. We usually swap phones after about a year anyway, so I'm not concerned if they end up going under.
If someone has a spare $200 code they're willing to give. PM me please
Guys, if someone got his code, would you please give it to me?! (if you're not willing to buy another product from essential's website)
At 299$ it's a bargain, as I'm willing to import it with the help of a friend. Thank you

Purchase directly from essential.com or amazon.com, need some feedbacks (pros - cons)

Hi to all, I'm here to ask for a promo code..... jk jk.
I'm planning to buy the phone probably this weekend (end of October) and i can see i have two options.
amazon and essential web page.
I want to also get the extended care or the 2-Year Multi-Device AD Protection Plan if it's from amazon so my question here is:
Anyone can recomend me if i should buy it from amazon or essential web page?
the benefits of buying it from amazon is that i can get the phone the same day for free, but i don't know if getting it directly from essential will give me the chance to have a better build phone vs the early ones with cloth speaker issue etc...
i don't really know how long it takes to get one from the essential since i leave in the west side of US and i heard that the phone is coming straight from China?
also it looks like both extended protection plan works the same but i will like some feedbacks from actual buyers from amazon and essential.com
thanks a lot for your response.
FWIW, I ordered my phone from Amazon and WISH I had gone through Essential directly.
I ordered my device on the 13th day before the $200 price drop and while Essential is refunding people in my situation without hassle, Amazon wants me to ship back both my phone AND 360 camera (since I ordered them bundled) and then reorder them.
On the plus side - my Amazon issue phone from 2 weeks ago came with the newer grille, so that's most likely what they've got in stock.

So if i decide to go with amazon at least i know that i may get one of the newer phones... thanks to share your experience. and well, at least you have the chance to send it back in order to get a phone with the cut price.
Essential doesn't charge tax which will save a few bucks.

I ordered from essential on Sunday and got my phone today. FedEx before 1030. Saved on tax and I was able to finance cd it through affirm with low monthly payments. Price was 499 only on essential that day. Amazon and best buy followed the day after.

Sounds like, even tho I will only save around 20 bucks, it's better to buy directly from essential, It will only take around 5 days and I have no rush yet to have it on hand.
I'm planning on compile on this phone once we have the proper device tree available but that won't happen yet...
Hopefully soon. It all depends on essential devs

Could you look on your box and see which month it was manufactured in? Mine has SEP at at the end of one of the numbers, I assume that is the month of manufacture. Thanks

Definitely a head Turner. The phone is utterly beautiful. Feels so solid in hand. Am trying Google camera and essential camera. Essential updated camera app again yesterday and it seems solid.

Mine has the SEP also, but that's the SKU, it doesn't make sense that they'd change the device SKU every month. More likely the USEP at the end is United States Essential Phone There will probably be a slight variation for other colours or if new kits come out, but not months of manufacture.

That makes sense. I wonder if there is a way to tell if it is an updated hardware version without opening the box?
Ordered mine through Essential a week before the price drop. Contacted them about the chance of a $200 refund and was told anyone within the return period would see a $200 refund within 1 to 2 weeks credited to their method of payment. Credited the next day!!! Gives me the impression these guys are serious about keeping their phones in the hands of satisfied users unlike most OEM's and carriers. Works great on Verizon by the way....
This is interesting, the price between essential and amazon is only by less than $5 dollars, so I'm not saving much if i order it from their web page.
Essential with 2yrs plan = $644.36
Amazon with their 3yrs plan = $649.23
I can't see why i'm getting charged with taxes when some people are saying is tax free if i order through essential.
also noticed one priced $540 on swappa (including the 2 years extended plan). i think i can save some bucks like that.

You're getting taxed because Essential has a physical presence in California. Any time you buy something online, and that company has buildings in your state, taxes are required.

I ordered through Essential on Monday, they charged my card and sent an invoice. But it's not Wednesday and no tracking number, no further info. How long should I expect before dispatch? Do they provide a tracking number?

they should and will provide a tracking number. I end it up buying it from essential as well, but as you can see on the below link, it may take longer than i was expected

They didn't charge me any tax. On either of the phones I purchased from them.
Ignore him, he's been posting grumpy replies in a bunch of threads. He must be in a bad mood.
And for the record, they DO NOT charge tax everywhere. That is false info.

Newer grille? Can you explain more? Would you possibly be able to show pics of old and new? I have one on order and curious to know what's up.. thanks!
There are side by side pics in another thread on here. Can probably give it with a quick search.
The issue was the original cloth/foam grill would fall out, leaving a little gap. So they changed it and made it metal.
I have the original one, it is not a big deal, unless you are really OCD. In which case, seek help. Lol
