Need a comparison z3+ vs Z5 ( Camera, Heat issue) - Xperia Z5 General

Hi guys I need to make a decision to sell the z3+ and get the z5, so basically need some camera/ heat comparisons
If you have any samples please post. thanks

Hi mate
I had the Z3 for a good few months before binning it and getting the Z5.
The camera is higher quality in my opinion but the difference isn't massive unless you're looking at a direct comparison. Heat wise the Z5 gets hotter near the NFC logo under load but is cool to the touch most of the time. I find the Z3 got boiling when charging (I had the official Qi charging case) whereas the z5 stays nice and cool.
If heat is a concern, i'd look to get your hands on one before making the 2 year commitment (or whatever your contract/plan is)
Sorry I don't have any comparison shots to hand.
Carl

Actually I didn't like the camera, and definitely there is a heating problem with this phone :/
btw, do I need to buy a rapid/fast charger or the one included in the box does the job?

Got the z3+ had some heat issues, While charging its just cool, only thing it closes soon while slow motion and AR Effects due to heat. thats the issue. So basically it has the same issue as Z3+?
If so i might stick with the z3+

I will set up my Z5 shortly. I also have a Z3+ that I'm keeping & will try to do a comparison for you after using Z5 for 2/3 days. But few things I can tell you right now
- Z3+ is camera is actually significantly better than Z3/Z2 in auto mode & yes, Z5 camera is also significantly better than Z3+ in auto, but I'll post some pictures for you to decide
- Z3+ is excellent in performance tasks like heavy browsing/multitasking. My S6 simply can't keep up with that. It's quite sad considering the hype it generated. I also regularly get 1 extra hour of SoT from Z3+ compared to S6 (& yes, it's still less than Z2's but we're talking 2015, lollipop, & octa core here). I do browse, stream, & play games a lot, but I don't watch movies on phones.
- Z5 may have better 'sustained' performance due to that extra cooling pipe, which should also answer your heat/AR mask question. I'll follow up on that.

Good to see you brother! Feel free to ask any questions
@JR5968
Heat-wise. Z5 runs at least 5/6 degree C lower than Z3+ performing the same set of heavy tasks (I did 6/7 consecutive Antutu runs with identical starting temp on both). Dual heat pipe FTW - no kidding.
If Z3+ heating is bothering you too much, you should consider Z5. They both have the same SoC & things are not going to run any faster on Z5 (when both are cold/warm), but you'll see a big difference only if you're pushing Z3+ towards its throttling range (which you are as it sounds like). Dual heat pipe aside, Z5 should have some sw optimizations that Z3+ will probably get shortly. It should definitely make a difference.
You should also check out that 'throttle fix' thread on Z3+ forum. It makes a big difference if you go with @nfs2010 's fix. That was our second heat pipe lol If you don't like the fix, get Z5. If you do, just wait for Z6/7!
I'll post some pictures later on.

@schecter7
thanks man.actually I'm most concerned with overall speed as I have no lag what so ever on my Z2 and Z3 so I would hate it on Z5.any comments on general speed and multitasking?
also if u could do some screen comparisons that would be awesome.or comment on it.hows reflectivity?low I hope

@josephnero I've attached some pictures showing Z5 , Z3+, Z2 (left to right, also image enhancement off & default WB on all) screens in action. Z5 screen can get dimmer than the other two - I think. So for normal usage, the slider needs to be set to a higher position to get the same brightness output. Z3+ is the brightest one but I never had to use anywhere near its maximum brightness, so Z5 is totally fine. I'll post some pictures later on to compare sunlight legibility. But so far I haven't had any issue using it outdoor. You probably have to use a screen protector to avoid fingerprints.
Multitasking is great - no hiccups. It can definitely handle heavy tasks better than my Z2. Only occasional lag I have seen is on the MT window while trying to close apps. Surprisingly, it happens more often when there's only one app lol Z3+ had some similar minor bugs that they've fixed with fw updates quite fast. Overall, Z3+ feels a bit faster - UI & camera wise , but it got three updates in four months. So keep an eye on the updates if that concerns you. Z2 & Z3 both are amazing phones, so the bar is quite high - I understand

@schecter7
Thanks man.Awesome job.Z5 seems a bit more reddish but we all know z3 has a cold tint. Also I remember at IFA the sony rep said new camera UI update is coming in november.hopefully it will further Improve the awesome cam

Thanks mate, hope i will stick with the z3+ for now. I don't mind it heats up as long as it does not close the awesome AR Effects/mask
Anyhow thanks for giving the comparisons

There are my samples from Z3+ and Z5.

I am hoping that the new camera UI update in December will improve camera.
About heat. Z5 heats less than Z3+. Only when I am playing heavy games and using AR Effects and AR Mask Z5 heats quicker and gets hot(it doesn't close those camera apps like on Z3+) but in daily use it is little warm. And Z5 works better than Z3+ (although Z3+ works good after 2 updates) but I think Sony will fix that on Z3+ with Android 6. Battery on Z5 is almost the same as on Z3+; slightly better.
Those are main answers on your questions.

Xperia Z1 vs Nexus 5 (UPDATED WITH VIDEO)

I have just got my Nexus 5 few hours ago, and I thought I would give a quick comparison between the Nexus 5 and the Xperia Z1 while waiting for more in depth comparisons from tech sites. I will keep it short and informative.
Look, Feel and size
The Nexus is alot lighter and smaller but the Z1 is more premium. This doesn't mean that the Nexus looks cheap. the Nexus is very good and the Z1 is excellent in the feel but the Nexus is better when looking at the size or weight.
Performance
Benchmarks
I know it means nothing bla bla bla, but people still wants to see them
antutu benchmark X nexus ~26000, Z1 ~35000
quadrant nexus ~8700, Z1 ~21000
sunspider nexus 745ms, Z1 694ms
I am not sure why the nexus 5 scored less (consideribly less for antutu and quadrant) but I think it has to do with ROM stability as the nexus 5 was turned on for the first time few hours ago.
Real life
just done few tests on opening various websites and apps. the Nexus was milliseconds faster on opening almost all websites except one or two where both phones were as fast. However, opening apps were of the same speed for both phones. (keep in mind that the Z1 has alot going in the background while the nexus was clean)
Screen
I tried viewing various photos and videos but couldn't really say which is better. Some photos were better on the Nexus while other were better on the Z1.
the viewing angle were significantly better in the Nexus, but not perfect though.
The brightness of both devices are almost equal.
.
Camera
This is quite hard, I do need some more time to say which is better. But initially, the Nexus has better low light image (the images are softer which has advantage of less noise and disadvantage of less details) but the colors are more accurate in the nexus as well. in good light conditions, the Z1 is better in every way.
Speaker
tried playing various sounds in youtube and the Z1 is Alot louder and of better quality than the Nexus.
Battery
I didn't have time to test the battery life of the nexus of course. However, during testing the previous things, the Z1 dropped ~%25 while the Nexus dropped ~%40. Again, I know that the battery tends to get better after couple of charges but the Z1 had lots of apps installed and lots working in the background while the Nexus was clean. Additionally, the Nexus was in airplane mode while the Z1 had the radio working. all in all, I would say the Z1 battery would be better as expected by the battery size and hopefully it will get better after getting 4.4
I should mention that the Nexus 5 was warmer than the Z1 after finishing these tests.
Advantages of the Z1
Better Battery life
Better camera images in good light conditions
Louder speaker
SD card
more premium feel
doesn't get warm as fast
Advantages of the Nexus5
Android 4.4
Better camera images in low light conditions
better viewing angel
smaller and lighter
Both were as good in
Screen quality
Performance
Here is video showing detailed comparision between the Nexus 5 and the Z1 by shem2409 who came up with similar conclusion.
I don't see the nexus 5 significantly better in anyway compared to my Z1 or SGS4. And the 4.4 update doesn't seem to add much (the Z1 doesn't lack anything compared to the nexus 5) 4.3 and 4.4 mostly added performance improvements which won't really benefit us (Z1 users). The Z1 is already powerful enough and I didn't see it lag or stutter not even once. and I couldn't see any differences between the Z1 and Nexus 5 overall performance. 4.4 will benefit low end and mid range phones more than high end ones. We might benefit from battery improvement more than performance improvement.
One more thing...
You did interesting thing but...
4.4 Android is optimised whole lot better than 4.2.2 and you'll get better results when Sony release 4.4 for Z1.
So, if you now think they are similar devices - you can be sure that Z1 powered by KitKat will be faster and smoother than Nexus.
That's all theoretically for now but I'm 100% sure Z1 will become even better device on 4.4...

The brightness is so much better on the Nexus 5. 100% in the Z1 = 40% in the Nexus 5. I am not sure if this because of the recent update which brought the brightness down for the Z1. Anyway, this is not big issue for me, I have my Z1 at 25% all of the time. But again this would probably mean better viewing in sunlight for the Nexus.

I totally agree with you Z1 runs 4.2 while Nexus runs 4.4 and both are using the same chipset. So there is advatage for the nexus but the Z1 performs on the same level.
I do agree that the Z1 will get faster with 4.4 but I am not sure about smoother because it is already smooth to the highest level, I am not sure if it can get any smoother. in the past we used to look for performance boost from the hardware and the software sides to get smoother phone. But now we won't notice any improvement to the smoothness. what we will get from better software or hardware is just faster loading time of apps, websites, movies ... etc. But still your point is valid +1

Thanks! Got me worried a little if the difference was that huge lol
Thanks for testing!
Great to see that the Z1 is still the fastest Snapdragon 800 phone around (and yes: I am one of those benchmark lovers ).
The performance difference in Antutu really is impressive though, and that's although the Z1 has a slightly lower maximum clock than the Nexus (2,15 vs 2,3 GHz). It is probably for the same reason as with the LG G2: Thermal management.
Sony allows for the Z1 to run quite hot and the phone is bigger and does better at dissipating the heat, therefore the CPU is not clocked down during benchmarks.
You could try placing both phones in your refrigerator and repeat the Antutu test just for the fun if it, scores should be up by some 100 points
That was the case with the Nexus 4 too, due to thermal management it scored lower than the Z despite having the same hardware.
Thanks for the nice review btw.

I have putted 64Gb SDcard in my Z1 - now everything is fine , also damn huge Akku! I think Z1 is best choise for snapdragon 800 atm imho
Z1 is with your last update? I ask because the camera has received some improvements.
As for me I didn't even considered getting nexus 5. No sdcard slot is a huge deal-braker for me...
Imagine that you want to watch full hd video on your mobile. Thats 11GB, where am I going to put my music in the end?
Its even worse than no led in XZU.
Another thing is that if it wouldnt come out for my ISP in Poland till 27'th then I just wouldn't be able to get it.

I purchased the Nexus 5 as well. If it somehow trumps the Z1 then I'll just give this phone to my mom, if not: she'll get the N5 as intended
When it came down to it, it was either the Galaxy Note 3, Z1, or the N5. The GN3 suffered from touchwiz and the N5 is still up for debate since I have yet to really use it (used it for a bit when a Google rep came into my best buy store) but I think the Z1 is definitely the way to go. I just can't imagine myself ever using something that doesn't feel as solid as the Z1 in the future. I'm excited to see what Sony does with Kit Kat (hopefully we get it!) But till then, it's a bit pointless to compare the two phones IMO. One is running superior hardware but inferior software (not that 4.2.2 sucks or anything) while the other is running superior software with average hardware (save for the processor).
Both phones are amazing at the end of the day in their own right. But I'm willing to bet that we'll all see the same things said about them when these two phones are compared: people will rave about kit kat and how cheap the N5 is and will complain about viewing angles and price for the Z1.
Sent from my C6906 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm really torn between the N5 and the Z1 at the moment... pretty much narrowed it down to those two, since I don't want any Touchwiz/LG crapware on my phone (2 years with an SGS2 is enough). Number one priority is battery life for me, and I thought the Z1 would be great since it had the large 3000 mAh battery, but from what I read that's not really the case. On the other hand my girlfriend's N4 actually has a very decent battery life, despite her using facebook and stuff extensively, so maybe the N5 is actually in a way equal to the Z1. And then of course I don't know when/if Sony releases updates, and do they bring all the 4.4 software goodness?

Z1 is F2.0 and N5 is F2.4. That's a half stop difference. So Z1 has a 50% bigger aperture size than the N5.
Thus Z1 will get away with shots with 50% faster shutter speed so action shots as well as better low light pics will go to the Z.
You can zoom to about 1.8x with Z1
N5 only has a 2 axis OIS which isn't all that great. Digital stabilisation can beat a 2 axis OIS.
Check this photo comparison between 5s & N5. (scroll down a bit till you see the starbucks coffee) Now check the lobby shot. At first glance the N5 looks better, but zoom into the garden behind and you can see the 5s doing a better job there.
Al this is not to say you cannot get good shots with the N5 or any other camera for that matter.. You can and its a definite improvement over the N4.

I repeated antutu test on the Nexus 5 today morning while it is cold (left it next to the window where it is so cold here in the UK) and it managed to get higher score ~29500, but still no where near the Z1. I should mention that the nexus 5 got warmer than the Z1 during yesterday and todays tests (although the nexus was colder when I started doing antutu test today as I was using the Z1 to check e-mails and other things before reading you comment and decided to repeat antutu test on both devices).

Z1 Compact experience moving from Z1

I wrote recently about moving to a Z1 from an S3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756104).
Like one poster, the Z1's massive size became one of my biggest bug-bears with the device. Amazing to have such a large screen, but in daily use putting it in jeans pockets and carrying I found the size a con, enhanced by the slipperiness of it.
I changed to a Z1 Compact. Here are my pros and cons from the change, in case they are useful to anyone else.
As in the previous review, these are the things that matter to me. If you want a large screen for example, then stop reading because the Z1 Compact will not make you happy.
Firstly - the pros of the Z1 Compact:
- The size is perfect. Sort of like a cross between an iPhone and a Samsung S2 or S3. Just big enough to type quickly and read, but small enough I barely notice it.
The bezel area seems less than the Z1, which I always felt was wasted space.
- The camera is better. Yes, I've seen threads saying they are the same. I compared MY z1 and MY z1 compact and the compact was more detailed in broad daylight. Notice the emphasis on "MY" - there is probably much variation around the world and in single item variations also. For me, the z1 compact took the already great Z1 camera and made it better. I'm hugely impressed.
(I note that mine is not one of the ones with the flash bleed issue that has plagued some z1 compacts.)
- Not a pro of the Compact per se, but I got a magnetic charger with it, and that is magic. Definitely worth getting.
- The Compact attracts less attention. For international travelling, this is a pro to me.
- The touch screen is marginally better than the Z1. I found the Z1 slightly unresponsive. Both have the factory protector still on.
Also there is an option to use the Compact screen with gloves.
And of course the cons:
- The battery life of the Z1 is still better. The compact is great. I'm very happy with the battery life. I finish a day of work after listening to music on spotify (cached) and making a few calls with about 75% left. This is great to me.
But the Z1 was slightly better still. Both are very good.
- The Z1's screen was pretty amazing in size and detail. I don't notice the 1080p to 720p downgrade because the ppi is still high on the Z1 compact, but the Z1 was definitely a "wow" for detail on the screen. And the size was better for longer reading.
- The Compact looks less "premium". If you want to attract attention, get the Z1.
Lastly, the things that weren't better:
- I thought the screen would be a lot better on the Compact. It's not. The vibrancy is marginally better. But it is not a jump ahead of the Z1.
- Soft keys still annoy me, but I will have to try another poster's suggestion of the pie controls in Xposed/Gravity box.
Hope this helps anyone interested.
Wait, battery life short than Z1? are you sure? Z1 compact have an IPS screen, it better than Z1 on view and eat battery not much than TFT screen on Z1

It depends on the usage though... If your screen is always on obviously Z1 Compact has a much more efficient battery life. But when a phone spends most of the day screen off(listening music, phone calls, FM radio etc.) then obviously Z1 wins.
Were you annoyed with the viewing angles of the screen and general washed out screen. Whey I was at the store Z1C looked miles ahead on Z1 in terms of black and contrast.
z1-z1c
I had Z1 for a 3-4 months then i moved to Z1C..
Pros for Z1C: Better battery then Z1 (that`s a personal conclusion)
Better display.. (colors are more alive and black is more black than z1)
Better wi-fi range
for me it seems more responsiv, smooth, than z1
Camera is greater than z1 , don`t know why (are the same)
slighther , only 138g
Internal and external speaker are a little bit louder compare to z1
Now Cons: Miss the glass from the back ( that plastic from z1c scratches very easely
For those who want a bigger display i recommend z1
I think that`s all .. but I'm glad i went from z1 to z1 c (don`t miss it at all)
Sorry for my poor english
Guys, we do not allow comparison threads here in this section, which is why this thread is now closed
In case you weren't aware of this yet, I'd suggest you to re-read THIS

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact versus Xperia Z5 Compact

Guys, I've been bought Z5c to replace my Z1c(I also own a S6). Still very busying to test the z5c now, if you guys got any questions regarding Z5c feel free to ask me in this thread(if there are still any Z1c survivor here...).
My first impression vs. Z1c(and vs. S6):
1. Camera way faster and fixed the annoyed focus issue. The camera launch speed slightly slower than S6 but close to it. The focus speed at low light S6 a bit faster but Z5c already done a good job like 3x better and blow out Z1c completely.
2. Camera details isn't much better than Z1c only little improvements there, yet S6 got better details. Color, WB, AE is accurate than Z1c and S6, however sometimes you'll think that it is just too accurate and not as eye caught as Z1c/S6(they do more tweaking while Z5c towards to neutral side, the overall style still Sony and similar to Z1c).
3. Speaking to camera shutter lag and saving speed. S6 got instant speed in this area, Z5c slower but 3x faster than Z1c again.
4. Sceen is much better than Z1c like next generation with noticeably better color, WB, brightness, viewing angle and more clear. No doubt the 5.1" 2K on S6 is sharper, Z5c is just 720p but an exceptional quality one for this kind of resolution.
5. Support double tap to wake in stock rom. S6 needs root or custom kernel/rom to get this function.
6. Fingerprint recognition looks more sensitive than my S6, no worse than ip6/6s I think.
7. s810 on 720P is extremely fast, the smoothness is around the same with Exynos 7420 on S6. Kicks ass though the s800 on Z1c is already very fast but Z5c performs even much more responsively, no slower than S6 in my opinions. What the drawback on s810 it gets hot during heavy gaming or video recording but manged to an okay level for any s808/s810. If you want to get a cool device, I'm afraid Exynos 7420 is the only choice in 2015 until s820 comes out.
8. Battery life is identical to Z1c but since I've only got it for 3 days, I can't tell much at right now, it takes time to know. But it seems no worse than Z1c of 4.4.4/5.1.1, 2700mAh feed the s810 well. Expected to out perform Z1c when Android 6.0 arrive.
9. Solid build quality but I think S6 and Z1c more premium with metal bumper. Z5c goes to the fashion design, more young and motivative, not the same direction on S6/Z1c.
10. Speaker is superior. To be honest, S6 speaker also sounds out loudly but Z5c got very stereo feeling.
11. MicroSD supports up to 200GB, IPX67 rated, glove mode is still there. Finally no flag usb port with quick charge 2.0. USB-OTG is supported but you have to click USB connectivity to ask it to detect. S6 got an IR blaster which is also useful if you got many electronic devices at home or like to remote the TV in restaurant.
12. Internal storage speed lots quicker than Z1c though can't beat the more advanced emmc used on S6.
13. The front LED is as good as Z1c/S6, that LED notification is bad on Z3c.
14. After rebooting both Z5c/S6 got exactly 1GB free memory on stock rom(currently both of my Z5c/S6 running on stock rom without root) but I'll probably very soon to unlock and root Z5c bcoz I want to try to limit cpu speed to reduce heat.
My Z5c is running on latest firmware(second OTA) and it's been improved much on speed, those reviews on net are dated now. Sony said new camera update will come in this month so we'll see.
My colleague has just bought Z5c and I've got Z1c so I compared these 2 phones
and I've got the same opinion as you - I can confirm each point of the post above, especially:
- screen is better and you know this on the first look
- speakers are better and the stereo feeling is easy to hear
- camera focus is faster
- it's hotter, not only on heavy use
One thing I can add is the look of Z5c: it looks fatter, more bulky - mainly because of bezel shape - but it feels fine when you take the phone in your hand

The size is identical to Z3c but the bezel shape looks like an older WP phone similar to Lumia 920. Especially if you get a yellow model.
Turn on Stamina mode will help but I think the ultimate solution is to lower the max cpu speed plus switch to other governor(waiting custom kernel). It's sure getting hotter but that's happened on every other s808/s810 phone in this year. Exynos 7420 is the only one suffering from this issue, it also warmer than s800/801.
Screen and camera has the major goodness. This monitor got very accurate color and decent viewing angle, both made it finally like a true IPS this time. The speaker is real very stereo. Camera focus at low light S6 still faster and better, I've done some extensive testing about this yesterday but Z5c focus easy beat all older xperia phones.
Other than the heat problem(can be solved after root by reduce cpu I think) and no OIS. I'll say every part got juice and definitely an upgrade for any small phone lover.
I'll post some indoor and night shot I've done last night of Z5c and S6 soon, including FHD/4K. I'll offer all in original size, please check this thread again.

Xperia Z is such a legend

As I'm owning an Xperia Z5, since a year and a half, I still find that the Z was the most popular and really well supported device, so many ROMs, kernels, mods, themes and just everything, even Sony supported it for a long period of time, but the biggest part was the people who spent hours to make the best for it, it's such a legend, made by Sony, and the people continued to make it better.
It's a bit sad that I am pretty disappointed with my Z5, it didn't make me happy like the Z, and from the development side? It's nothing compared to what the Z has gotten..
Thanks for reading and have a great day!

I know, and I still using it for daily.
May I know details of every things that make you disappointed on your Z5? Because I have a plan to upgrade my device, either Z5c or the latest XZ1c.

The Z5 lacks a lot of development and support, if you don't care about that then it's not the only issue, the Snapdragon 810 literally sucks! A lot of heat (running at over 50°C all the time) and terrible performance for an octa core CPU, Especially in games, even some cheap Chinese phones performance better, however it's an improvement over the Z, just not that much of an improvement as I expected.
It's not the phone's fault, just the Snapdragon 810 chip, and it's not the only one.
However I highly recommend avoiding any device with a Snapdragon 810 CPU because of the heat, bad performance and battery draining (I barely get 3 hours of screen on time), and I also recommend getting the Xperia XZ Premium, it has a 4K screen and a bigger battery unlike the XZ1 line.
More about the Z5:
Screen: meh, it has a blueish tint that makes the whites aren't so white, the TFT screen on the Z was better except outdoors.
Camera: good but not great, especially indoors, pretty noisy, 4K recording isn't so wow and the 120fps slow motion is too dark and low quality IMO, But it does pretty well in good lighting conditions.
Speakers: not so good, but I was able to get them louder after installing a mod.
Software: the Android 7.1.1 is the last update that the device will probably get, the nougat was a failure on the Z5 and XZ though, so I'm still using marshmallow.
So it's a fine device at the end but if you can go for newer devices like the XZ Premium then you better do!

I know about SD810 heating problem. It sucks, but till now, only Z5 family available in my country (so sad). XZ premium was great but I don't like a phone that has screen more than 5 inch. That's why I'm looking for XZ1c. 4K screen is not a big deal for me.
Thanks for sharing.

I don't think the XZ1c would disappoint you either, it has nearly the same hardware as the XZP except for the screen and battery, and also, wait for them to come to your country, don't be in hurry.

X Compact vs XZ1 compact SOT

Good day.
Has anyone had the oportunity to compare XC vs XZ1C SOT?
I am thinking in replacing my stupid Galaxy S8 and get a smaller phone.
Trying to decide between XC or XZ1C. I simply loved the battery life of my good old Z3 Compact
I was in the same boat and went with the XC because it was half the price and I prefer Nougat over Oreo. Also, the XZ1 has no FM radio.
The XZ1 looks nicer and has a more premium case which isn't a fingerprint magnet and the volume buttons are positioned higher up so easier to use. Camera is better too and it has more RAM and a faster chipset but the 3GB XC RAM and mid-range chipset is plenty fast for me.
Battery on the XZ1 is better too but the XC battery life is also excellent, I comfortably get two days out of mine and can stretch it to 3 with light usage. Haven't done a direct comparison of screen-on-time but I had my XZ1 for a week and didn't think it was worth £400. For me, it came down to price and Sony getting rid of their useful customisations in Oreo. At least with the XC you have the option to upgrade (or not) to Oreo.

Even though I can't see what's missed in Oreo in comparison to Nougat, I agree with everything else that you've written.

if price doesn't matter for you get the xz1c cause
- It has way better graphical performance
- One more year of official software support
- better material and more premium
- better front camera + 4k video recording
- trust me, xc speakers are ****...
otherwise:
- cpu performance and daily usage is 99% the same experience (no lag and no ram issue in Xc)
- xc has a more vibrant display (just due to different calibrations from sony)
almost same battery performance
- xc has exactly the same gpu performance as the S8 (due to lower spec gpu but also lower resolution display)
- you might wanna wait and see if sony brings a better compact phone in 2018 cause XZ1c doesnt quite nail it and s8 is a beautiful phone...

Also, XZ1 have waterproof (IP68/IP66), gorilla glass 5 and bluetooth 5.0 ( quadruples the wireless transmission range, boosts the broadcast messaging ability by 800% and doubles the data speed capacity, real compatibility with lossless uncompressed quality with bluetooh headphones)
XC have water resistant (check on youtube), scratch resistant (no specs). The only benefit is that XC have stock Sony option of double tap to wake up and to sleep, which XZ1 doesnt.
XZ1 compact on ebay 450$
XC on Amazon 320$
XZ2 Compact (after MWC 2018) 699$ expected
Good day.
Thank you all very much for your reply.
XZ2 Compact will be anounced in MWC 2018?
I just wanted a good fast compact phone. No other brand offers that, other than Sony. Money is not a issue here.
I'm no Samsung fanboy, and I like Galaxy S8 very much, it is a beautiful phone, excelent camera, the software has all the things i need and never thought to root to add new function.
But it has a so so battery life, it's too big for my hand and impratical, useless fingerprint sensor, and is very fragile (last week it fell to the ground with the cover and the screen shatered. 300euros for repairs)
I have been looking around in this forum and Xz1C one, and it seems that Xz1c forum is still very dormant. As i want to root the phone, XC has the possibility to backup DRM keys, in case i want to send for warranty and there is much more mods for XC.
What's keeping me from buying XC is that battery endurance rating is 73h, worse that Galaxy S8, vs 108h for the XZ1C as stated in GSM Arena. And the loudness of the speakers.
If XZ2 Compact really will be anounced in MWC 2018, about 10 days from now, think i'll wait to see if it is worth it. (rumors say that XZ2C will be 5" screen, fingerprint sensor in the back and no 3.5mm earphone plug, and those for me are a no go)
Thank you.

One thing to notice though, xz1c would have been tested with oreo, and xc would have been tested with either nougat or even marshmallow. The OS difference might have affected the battery performance.

Battery life is very subjective and those GSM Arena tests are synthetic, i.e. not reflective of real use. A lot depends on network signal strength, what you have enabled and running the background so they are useful as a comparison tool with other devices but it's quite possible the XC would have similar if not comparable battery life to the XZ1 depending on how you use it.
I'd definitely wait for MWC to see what the XZ2 Compact is all about as well as what other phones are announced. I totally agree with you though, 5" is too large and with no 3.5mm earphone plug and a fingerprint sensor in the worst place, it's a deal breaker.
I think overall, the XC is the last great all-rounder compact that Sony made, the XZ1C not having the FM Radio and losing all the useful Sony customisations in Oreo.

well Oreo has a big effect on battery life, since I upgraded my xc to oreo it easily lasts about 12 more hours with normal usage...
and although I agree with you about xz2c being like that, I think 5" display would be on a bezel-less front and for headphone jack, there are plenty of type-c to 3.5mm connectors that are very cheap and tiny and easy to use, so if no 3.5mm jack means less bezels, Im totaly on for it....
also, rumors say that there might be an acoustic display on xz2c, its just rumors but man that one thing is SOMETHING!

Good day.
I probably will be going to buy an XCompact until xz2C is available in my country.
You could be right about XZ2C. If the rumors are true that they will be using the same phone size and increase the screen.
Acoustic display would be nice in this phone , As long as it does not affect battery life.

well xz2c pictures have been leaked and you could check them out if you havent already,
unfortunatly no acoustic display is a no,
bye bye headphone jack!
bezels are not much less than older phones,
and its reeeaaaly thick!!
maybe hardware performance will make up for it but otherwise I'd say go for Xc and put the remaining money to better use! (true wireless headphones maybe!? )
Hey, compare all information about XC; XZ1c and XZ2c here
I still prefer xz1c, for god's sake, 168g isn't a compact, it's a brick! see no advantages
What the f*ck is Sony doing? Very disappointed :crying:
Xz2 compact is not compact anymore. Thick (12mm), tall (135mm), :crying:
No headphone jack, fingerprint reader on the back. The only fast compact device on the market is dead.
Back to Samsung it is.
After reading about the XZ2 Compact changes, I'm tempted to upgrade my X Compact to an XZ1 Compact just to retain the final version of the good Compact form factor, WITH headphone port and side fingerprint sensor power button. As for XZ1 vs. X, the X is REALLY shiny and slippery, while the XZ1 is a nicer matte metal feel all around. That and a newer SOC and are the main upgrades since now both are on Oreo (though the XZ1 might get Android 9 support in the future, while the X may or may not)

Actually this information is missing. You can see the led notification in rigth corner, here
is there a real difference in photo quality between Xc and Xz1C ?
I am interested in the 2, but the 100 € difference make me hesitate.
What I appreciate above all is a correct autonomy and good photo quality.
What is the best in photo quality?
