[Otus/Surnia] Discussion CyanogenMod 13 - E 2015 General

Hello friends !
While many are willing to discuss whether or not Motorola will update our device to Android 6.0 (or 5.1), I like to do different and more promising.
I am among those who regardless of whether or not there is a current stock, I will end up using the Cyanogenmod's and its custom ROM based!
What do you think of our friends here convene developers for our device and make a healthy and friendly discussion about this possibility more likely?
I know this comes appear some kind of pressure, but not really, because none of the developers are required to develop for us, and for that I am grateful,
thank,
thank you again,
and thank you once again for them to leave our updated smartphones!
We begin to discuss CM13! ! ! (Remember, it's not to make charges to the developers, it's just to help them in what they need, even if what they need for us to be quiet hahahaha)

Yes we will get it as soon as CyanogenMod will have working sources for all the other stuff, meanwhile I'm working on a pure AOSP version for Osprey (already made something bootish, but making it cleaner now), which should come to Surnia too. The device tree itself is not so different from the L version, most of the job is actually the CM sources and not in what we provide.

I think you will be able to finish a stable marshmallow build before the next moto e3 release

as osprey is receiving 6.0, do you think it would be possible for someone to port stock osprey 6.0 (with all of Motorola's addons) over when that is released?

It would be nice thing, if the CM developers also do something for surnia and not only for otus.

to start developing! the work is already rolling.
http://www.cmxlog.com/13/

That sounds nice, please think at surnia users too, not only otus like in CM12.1

The source of CyanogenMod 13 is very unstable (or it was when just the code 6.0 release), but I've realized that trying to slowly repair errors, but I think it's better to wait a while to see a build that compile without us having to touch the code. Do not take more time, but new implementations of Google have been a headache when compiling.
Regards.

Yes, the CM source was in pretty rough shape when I first tried to build it for otus, but it has been improving steadily. There have been a lot improvements today in particular, 80% of the issues that I had to patch myself yesterday to fix build have now been solved. I'm away from my home desktop this weekend, so I'm in the process of downloading the CM13 sources on my laptop. It'll be another hour or two before the massive 30+ GB download completes. Hopefully I won't exceed my bandwidth cap for the month... I'll try to make a build with today's improvements once the download completes. It'll probably be tomorrow morning though, as it's already past midnight here.
Yesterday's test build was very broken (no audio, RIL, WiFi, or camera). My goal for this weekend is to have working audio and WiFi. I'll share a preview build here once it is at that point. After that, I'll try to fix the RIL and camera.
Be aware that most of the CM-specific features not in AOSP have not yet been ported to CM13. They are currently focused on fixing the build and hardware compatibility. However, efforts to port over the CM features are now underway and I expect significant progress over the course of the next week.

Are there news about cm13?

cm13 for surnia, pleeeeeeeaseee! rsrs

I'm a software developer and new on cyanogenmod. I will start to learn how to adapt the 13 to surnia, but if somebody is working on, I will appreciate to be part of a development team.

Hey I am a big fan of cm (I have it installed on my surnia since its unofficial xda builds back then), though a newbie in development. I want to participate in this effort. Where can I get started? (Download repos and start building)

The build that is over on openhackers thread works for surnia....I'm on boost mobile and I'm running Cm13 with LTE data, the fix that's in that thread does work, you have to follow it to the letter, even the factory reset...make sure you get squids kernel the new one
---------- Post added at 04:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:55 PM ----------
The only exception is I seem to have lost the ability to send MMS, even with hangouts or any other messaging app....
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 PM ----------
If you want pictures you have to pm me or at least til I make ten posts

As @squid2 said in the cm13 moto e2 (otus) thread, the next build will add support for the moto camera app in the playStore. Would it be possible to do the same for the Moto App?
(I'm talking about the one with Assist as well as the shake-to-open camera gesture.)

About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.
Features
Simply stated, we can't really list features here. There are too many and they change too frequently, and we now support a truly insane number of devices. Chances are, if you like a feature, we have it already. Seriously.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Join our G+ Community: http://community.carbon-rom.com This is where we spend the bulk of our time and the best way to reach us and other community members. We update and frequent this community far more than XDA, simply due to time constraints and the convenience of G+.
5) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Moto X 2013 (1st Gen) with unofficial CM13 ROM

I found a video in a Facebook Forum Moto X LatinAmerica, and someone posted a video about a the Moto X 2013 its running a unofficial CM13 ROM (Android Marshmallow 6.0), there are no links in the description, does anyone no where I can get that ROM!!?
I Know it must be buggy but still I think its worth a shot :fingers-crossed:
Unfortunately, I couldn't post the video because I m a newbie, but the video is on Youtube labeled as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow para Moto X XT1058
wow nice, maybe in 1 month they released the cm13 for our moto x
I saw that video too but no link?
The screen capture didn't have the navigation bar, which is a bit weird. Also, someone posted "Cm 13 X1", with a screen shot on G+ group MOTO ROMS. It looks like the developer wants his trusted sources to test it before other people

It just because there is only one professional and really skilled developer for our device left atm. I am thinking off Ethan Chen of Cyanogenmod and since he pushed a bunch of commits for cm13 in the last days i am sure we will see a official version for our device too. Perhaps at the end of january, like cyanogenmod announced to release the first stable version than.
Anyway i recommend not to be in hurry, unless you want a beta rom on your phone with probably a lot of bugs.
At least the latest kitkat and lollipop ports took nearly half a year until they were stable and full functional. Furthermore a lot of apps that needs some adaptions for marhsmallow.

We have broken in call volume, broken gps, no theme support and lots of other random bugs still - and you ask why Marshmallow??
You don't base ROMs on buggy beta/alpha releases. You build new ROMs on "stable" releases.

But I mean why put out a new ROM based on a soon to be "old" Android m? Nougat ROMs are already being made. Cm13 isn't going to appeal to those who want to stay up to date.

Why not? Cm 14 nighties are out. May be buggy, but soon enough they'll be more stable and this will then be a bit outdated.

So.... to avoid all confusion this has been rebased to firmwares known to work with cm 14.1 correct?... so (theoretically) that would include 3.5.5 CB FW (works with almost all MM roms - tried DU, RR, [email protected] least has for me} and newest beta 7 FW {same} I agree with you and your "if it aint broke" mentality. a solid 1/3 of android users are still on KitKat so running MM is not a "NO GO" for me anyway. keep up the good work will flash newest and post logs ofc..
will this LMT overwrite my current LMT data? i use it all the time and find it leaps and bounds above and beyond your standard "PA" pie feature.

The dream project going live. Excited for Uniquity.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
have you fixed gps? it's kinda broken while moving
Why did you chose cm as a base? I thought you guys wanted to build a aosp-based Rom?

They will be eventually. I direct you to the introduction thread: Introducing Uniquity
That will answer most of your questions.

EDIT: Source is not open at this time. Check back at a later date. Any beef with this please take it up with the OP or the devs.

Just an FYI to everyone on the thread, I'm the PR guy for Uniquity. I'll be monitoring the thread. Please let's not bug the devs or the OP with stupid questions. ABSOLUTELY NO ETA QUESTIONS WILL BE TOLERATED! I will report you to a mod if you post one of those. All development related questions should be directed to the OP or the devs, check the first post for details.
If you want to report a bug, please do it the proper way and create a log and post it on pastebin or hastebin or attach it to your post in a zip file. If you do not know how to do a log, do a google search. You'll figure it out pretty quick.
Let's keep this thread clean and friendly.

That's up to the devs. Check the OP and contact them regarding this.
What do you want with the source code anyway?

You're not right. Linux kernel is licensed under GPL v3, it requires everyone who modifies the code to publish it. They must release source code for kernel if they made ANY changes to it. Android itself is licensed under Apache so they don't have to release the source code. Also, it's not up to them, they will break XDA rules if they don't release kernel source code.

Take it up with the devs then. Don't clutter up the thread please. They are discussing things internally and will update accordingly.

How am I cluttering the thread up? They broke XDA rules by not posting kernel source code and you're asking me not to clutter the thread up, oh.

Apologies, Kernel source has been added to OP.

Download is live!
Enjoy the ROM guys
Some credits will be added tomorrow. But i'll personally credit @Manav Bhagia for helping me with adding optimizations to the ROM and making the ROM fly. Also i'd like to credit cmremix for their optimizations that I added
There are many more I would like to credit but hopefully these dudes will do for now. Android contributors all around are to thank of course

So guys, first build did not go as smoothly as i expected. Only real problems are with Substratum and the theme being preinstalled in the ROM. Since they are located in the priv-app folder, Substratum seems to not accept CM root or phh superuser.
So, what you must do is following:
- Install system app remover from Play store
- Open the app, grant root and uninstall Substratum.apk with it.
- Install Substratum from Play store.
Repeat the same with Entranced.apk, so that it will appear in Substratum themes list. (apk attached at the bottom of message)
Now, im not sure if this all will work fine for SuperSU users, and that is yet to be tested. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, I will work on fixing this immediately for next build. Hopefully you understand.

Where are LineageOS and other custom ROMS developers?

Our RN7P brother have already been presented with LineageOS and crDroid, PiEx It came out later than us, how?
Developers, please, we need you <3
I also like this phone and considering to buy one. But I'm afraid it will take some time to get an 'official' LineageOS.
Of course, all is volunteer work whatI highly appreciate and respect for people making those Roms.
But is there any news indeed?
Every device I get has this problem. The device itself is perfect but development takes time to land!
Mi 8 lite its same device. Same kernel, same chip, etc. Its easyer to port from it, not from redmi nore 7 pro.
Sorry to state the obvious, but developers first need to have the device before any serious development work can be done. So, as they say, patience is a virtue ...

Isn't the device out since january ? I think it just released in France where I live, but internet says it's released, probably in other parts of the world, since january.

It is not the release date that is important. What is important is the date that developers buy the device. And if developers don't buy the device, and nobody donates it to them, then nothing will happen.
Edit: Remember that developers mostly do the work for free - and, as normal human beings, they only buy the devices that they want or need (not the ones that people want things to be developed for).

I've also been told it's when the kernel source is opened, and it's been since a bit less than a month I think. Now if you add to that 15 days before unlocking...
Would be a shame if that device didn't get any custom mods.

your answer is bull****.
If the devs dont get a device how'll they know about the bugs before releasing a stable update

He obviously likes to flash ROMs which the developer has not tested, and cannot possibly test due to not having the device. Good luck to him.
hope more roms get released for RN7 soon,
like official Lineage & official Resurrection Remix

with answers like above i wouldn't be holding your breath, lol! apparently all all the devs need to buy the device before making custom roms for it! ROFL
the device is nearly 5 months old and there are still no custom roms for it.. the future looks grim.

I think the most important thing for us for time to work for roms . If we haven't time for than we cannot do. Also we can do blind build without device but also need an gud tester for making stable . I have created group for developers in telegram to bring tree so every nub dev can build from it . Pm me in telegram at https://t.me/saayad5 (pm only if you are a dev )

this is great news that roms are being worked on. :good:
would be great if we could get it off telegram though, it is a closed community that people don't want to give their phone numbers to use which slows down testing and development.

Yeah seems a little iffy, I'd wait for something more legitimate to come along.
