USBOTG on TWRP - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my USB OTG is not getting detected on TWRP .Is any one facing issue

I noticed that too. Not sure why. In the TWRP thread someone mentioned that the kernel source code for the Moto X Play was not released yet. That TWRP version was made using the kernel from another model. I am guessing that version of TWRP lacks the USBOTG drivers.

Waiting for mine...

Mine will be arriving Monday hopefully.
I've noticed people are flashing the Moto G 2015 twrp which I find a little worrying. Just wondering is this because we don't yet have kernel source for the X Play?
I'm hoping to eventually see CM12 for this phone but it all depends on its popularity.

Yep. It's all we can do for now.
We don't even have a stock firmware to flash back to if something goes wrong. That's why I just did a temporary boot to TWRP to install SuperSU and Xposed. I'm not willing to flash anything until there is something to fall back on.

Honestly, I wouldn't bet on it happening.
The X Play isn't very popular and has no mod support so far. I haven't seen a single ROM/kernel developer posting on these forums to date. That might change when the kernel sources are released and the stock firmware becomes available for download, but I'm not holding my breath.

Lineage OS H815

Hello,
I recently noticed that the LG H815 build has been removed as a download because of an encryption issue, and I was wondering if, other than this, there were any other issues causing it to be taken down (I'm thinking of building it unofficially)
Thanks

There is an unofficial LOS build already. That's what I meant to say.
Yes encryption is the issue why we do not have official ones but encryption is fixed on aoscp by our genius kessaras. Ask in kobtuls LOS thread what the state in LOS is.

I have just noticed it says you need v29a firmware. If I download it from cypheros.co, does it still need v29a (I'm on v20g and would rather keep it so I can roll back to stock using a TWRP backup if I need to)

You just need a V29a modem and bootloader package if you have a H815 handset, and you can actually flash that in TWRP as there is a flashable ZIP for that. I went straight from OEM Lollipop to AOSCP Oreo without issues.

I assume this is mainly due to performance reasons and compatibility with newer custom firmware, but I do not know the full, technical story as to why that is the case. You're better off asking @kessaras and @steadfasterX for the answers

as far as i know if you have h815 that unlocks with .bin key from LG its bootloader its unlockable and it has antirollback 0 unless you have h815t or h815p thats locked bootloader and cant rollback i think
ask in thread and tell them if you have official unlocked boorloadre from LG. if you can roll back if you flash v29.

You CAN use an outdated modem partition. But you may encounter issues like camera crash, bad or no sound on voice calls, gps probs and / or sensor issues.
And depending on several things it's possible that it JUST WORKS FINE. I have tested even a LP modem partition with oreo (just a short test a while ago) and all was working here but issues can happen rarely.
A brick is possible but it will be a soft brick only which means the download mode is still there and you can flash a kdz to recover if needed. It either bootloops or a demigod bluescreen will happen on boot.

Thanks for confirming this. I want to keep as much of my phone stock as possible so it is easy to revert back to full stock if anything happens (this is my first proper venture into custom ROMs).
Also, is there any way to tell which version the rom requires by looking at the install files

So what does a kernel source release actually mean for the end user? I remember some time ago the Korean version got a kernel source release and nothing happened after that.

What does it mean the kernel sources are released? Did LG release them publicly for individuals to flashing their phones? Or was this a leaked internal file meant only for T-Mobile's technicians?

It's just to comply with GPL. They are required by the Linux kernel's license, so they must release the source code.

They did that previously for the VS995 (V20) as well. I wonder why...
I already got the H830 Source though, and I've started my stock Oreo kernel based on it.
Edit: Maybe it's because the naming was wrong. I remember they called it 20A, which would be wrong, it's 30A of course (10A MM, 20A N, 30A Oreo).
But then it should be up again quite quick I imagine. The VS995 though is still down after like 3 months.
theyve renamed the korean g5 source incorrectly as well and last I checked that was still up... but yes, I assume the h830 oreo 20a source was pulled due to the typo.
I plan on having the H830 KDZ, zips and images available in my codefire directory as soon as they become available.
will be interesting to see if they +1 ARB version... or make downgrading from oreo a pain (without root).
Oreo for V20 is in testing phase at T-Mobile. Hopefully G5 moves to testing soon.

I don't think there is any correlation there at all.
They'd rather not even bother with releasing the code if they didn't have to, and usually they don't. Maybe once in a while, randomly they release, but seems they usually release the first at every android upgrade.
For instance; they released Oreo kernel source for many V20 back in jan-feb, and it took them 7-8 months to release Oreo for V20 from that point. That's a bit longer than 40 days...

update is still anti-rollback v01 so downgrading is still possible to get to 20A if someone still needs root after losing twrp or something. UPPERCUT works when downgrading from 30c -> 20a. complete zip is over 2GB so those with encrypted data may need to use an external micro sdcard to flash it. those who can access /data in twrp should have no problems flashing it from /sdcard

Possible custom rom development?

So this device shares the same processor as the Amazon Fire HD 8, which has GitHub repositories of kernels and Lineage 16.0, could we use these to develop a custom rom and maybe port Lineage 17 to the Onn tablets?
https://github.com/mt8163/android_vendor_amazon_mt8163?files=1
There's actually a Lineage 17 repository for the processor.
Theoretically any GSI rom that works on that tablet should at least boot on our devices. Idk if the radio chip (ex. wifi) is identical but i believe thats part of the vendor partition which isnt touched by the gsi.

That is true. There are more repositories. Maybe those could help assist getting Android 10 or other GSIs booting.
The PHH 9 arm64 ab gsi works good. It dosent seem to have any bugs currently. You need to flash vbmeta.img with the --disable- verification and --disable-verity options first followed by the system img. I have had some strange luck with these tablets. 2 7 inch models from the Black Friday deal. One of them rooted and took a GSI just fine, tried the same exact setup (made sure they were identical even at android version) on the other and it failed, never booted. GSI's can be iffy for sure

Where are the Alpha Omega ROM threads? I wanted to search them for GPS help.

Does anyone know where the Alpha Omega ROM threads are?
I'm on AO Oreo on both the US996 and VS995.
I was going to search in them for GPS issues (on the VS995), but I can't find the threads.
Anyone know where I can find some GPS help and/or AO Rom thread?
Unfortunately, it seems that the dev requested the threads to be removed, probably after being bothered too much by users, even though it was clearly stated that the work was discontinued long ago. I've only been able to find archived versions of the first pages for AO Nougat and AO Oreo. And you can still find the ROM files on AndroidFileHost here.
And FWIW, although it's not my main V20, I never had GPS issues on my US996 on AO Oreo.

It is unfortunate the dev choose to drop his rom and no longer provide support. I still run it as my daily.
Yeah, the only problem I have with it is since Verizon rolled out a new update I lost WiFi calling on a clean install. Does anyone know a trick to make it work? Mis also considering performing the update. But I don't know what the consequences could be. I want to at least get my second v20 up and running.

I think the hybrid Oreo variant is based on the VS995 and was released before official Oreo existed for the US996. I don't own an F800, but you could probably just try the more updated VS995 version.

Yes, the latest 1.3.1 version. As always, make a backup of your current setup before trying this. And you may need to be a on a VS995 TWRP version to get the installer to work. I also heard that some users of other V20 models had problems installing Alpha Omega on TWRP versions higher than 3.2.3-4, so keep that in mind.

I think the constant vibration during boot-up is a side-effect for all VS995 ROMs, and there may not be any workaround for that. US996 ROMs don't have that problem, but I don't know how compatible they would be for the Korean models.
