Android Lockscreen Fail Hack Exploit - Nexus 6 General

Apparently you can crash the phone allowing full access once it recovers:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...loading-software-long-words-makes-unlock.html

This is patched in this month's security updates that Google is pushing out.

I tried it on my own Nexus 6 device and couldn't replicate it anyways.

This is the new Google map 5. has nothing to do with the update.
"Official change log is as follows:
This system update from Google contains important bug fixes plus the latest version of Maps.
So yea, apart from the usual bug fixes and the latest Google Maps 5.0 app for Android, there is nothing much to look for in this update.
If you haven’t got the OTA update notification yet, you can force your handset to get it by dialing *#*#checkin#*# from the phone dialer to force your phone to prompt you for this Android 2.3.1 update."

wouldn't say force, it just re associates your device with the tower
I noticed a small improvement, maybe others didn't have this issue, but before the update it would usually take a full second after I pushed the power button for the device to wake up. Other than that, it was perfect. Now after the update, it wakes up a lot more quickly. Now it's just perfect!

Here's a Pushbullet channel to alert whenever a new Nexus 6 factory image is posted

This is automated; it runs on my server. It doesn't rely on manual updates, so it should be pretty quick (the script checks every 10 minutes). Let me know if you have any issues with it. I have a channel for each Nexus device if you have others; check my signature for the full list.
Enjoy!
Great idea, very useful.. Thanks
Very useful indeed, Thanks.

Could you make one for OTA files? I still have a locked boot loader and don't have time to spend resetting the phone again for the sake of flashing an update :/
Interesting. I have a 6 I purchased with my activation of Fi. My build number isn't listed on that Android page. I've got Build LVY47H
Very nice. No longer need to spam refresh the image page

Unfortunately not. The reason the script can be automated is because the factory images page has a set format that I can compare against--essentially, the script determines if any of the individual device tables on the factory images page has changed, then it grabs the new version text from the table and pushes to the appropriate device. There's no official source for OTA builds, and even though they're hosted on Google's servers they have randomly-generated URLs so I can't programmatically check for them. The best solution would probably be to subscribe to the factory image update channel, then check XDA every so often after a new build comes out to wait for someone to post the OTA update itself. Sorry about that!

Yeah, I saw this post yesterday then looked around for that build. Looks like it's a special build that's only on devices directly purchased from Fi at the moment. If it ever gets added to the Nexus 6 list on the factory images page it'll pop up on the channel, but if Nexus 6 Fi devices have their own set of factory images I'll have to add a separate channel for them, which is no big deal. Nothing I can do at the moment though unless/until Google changes something on their end.
As a sidenote, is your device codename shamu like a normal Nexus 6? If you don't know for sure, you can check by going to Settings --> About phone, then tap "Send feedback about this device", then tap the small "system information" link. Scroll down in that window a little bit and it's under the heading "Device".
Thanks for the detailed explanation, I hope that the OTA comes soon... Then again, I'm probably due a spring clean factory reset of the phone anyways ... I just don't want to, it takes up about half a day to configure! (I'm no longer a rooter and modder)
Is it still working? Can't see the MMB29K being posted there.
thank you

This looks like a great idea, but I don't see any updates newer than last October. Is this dead or do you not consider the security update releases as factory images? I installed the MMB29S image in early January.

Sorry, Google changed the format of the page and I'll be honest, I completely forgot about this script since it was self-sufficient for a long time. I'm working to update the script, should be fixed tomorrow.

I just got the new pushes and all is well with the world again. Thanks!
Just curious if you don't mind me asking, but what script are you running on your server that queries Google's site and how did you get that connected to your Pushbullet channel? I'm thinking of doing something similar elsewhere but I don't know where to start since I'm so new to scripting.
Great job, using it for a few months and it works really well, is it possible to have a channel for Android N preview?
Great job, man! :good:
But... it didn't work with the last update of yesterday, October-03, at least for the Nexus 5 & Nexus 6 channels...
Maybe it's due to a change in the Factory Images page, with that new "Acknowledge" button next to the text "I have read and agree with the above terms and conditions"?

Downloading N950USQS2BQK2 VZW Firmware...going to upload it tomorrow...
What's the difference between N950USQU2BQJA and N950USQS2BQK2 ? I just got the first update 2 days ago and just got the second one just now. But can't find any information on it.
Im wondering the same thing.. An update a day after the other update? Sounds like someone broke something or did an Oopsie.
First update had the October security update and camera enhancements, the second update is the November security update.

Unfortunately, the update borked my phone -- I just get a black screen with a message "System UI has stopped" -- when I click it off the screen, it comes back a second later. I saw in another forum that perhaps substratum is the culprit -- anyone have any ideas on a fix? I know that the phone is working to some degree, my Huawei watch is still connected and I get notifications on it. But I can't really access the phone at all, only black screen and error messages. Also, I have tried safe mode and I get the same issue -- which tells me that it shouldn't be a substratum issue since safe mode deactivated 3rd party apps, but who knows? Thanks in advance.

A lot of issues with sustratum and latest build...not sure but I think most are rebooting to recovery and clearing cache...but there are several posts about it if you search

I had the same issue like u after the update. if u do have a substratum theme installed then that's most likely your issue. Luckily for me I had usb debugging on and I was able to adb and uninstall the theme systemui by running these command through adb.
adb shell
pm uninstall com.android.systemui.SwiftDark.Android7SamsungS8

Can you tell me the keywords? Have tried to search and I'm not finding anything. Not rooted, so don't think I have recovery.

Anytime you do an OTA the Substratum app developers suggest uninstalling all of the themes. Nothing is broke on the device it's just causing an issue with seeing the home screen/settings.
This is also why using ADB to uninstall the layers would fix the issue.
Just for future reference for everyone.

Search "OTA sustratum" or remove sustratum but from within Note 8 forums....or just substratum

Gmail lost dark mode after Feb android update

Humm, since last update, Gmail no longer offers dark mode.
Seems to be a bug, as many users are complaining about this.
Waiting for an update, soon.
https://9to5google.com/2020/02/03/gmail-dark-theme-missing/
Saw a fix that someone posted on Reddit and it worked for me.
If you have root go to /data/data/com.google.android.gm/shared_prefs/flagprefs.xml
From there edit the DarkThemeSupport flag to true.

Thanks for responding. I'm on stock locked Verizon February update. Call screening worked in January but I don't think with locked BL I can go back. Wonder why they deleted it??
FYI, with the latest gmail version I still had to:
- force stop gmail
- clear cache
Dark mode is back

Dark mode never left for me in Feb patch. Im running stock rooted. I too have the now have the automatic call screening which I'm using. The one feature I was hoping to get but dont have from the pixel 4 is screen attention where the screen stays on if your looking at it.
The Feb patch seems to have stuck my phone in a boot loop.
EDIT: eventually my phone managed to boot again, and says that the update installation failed. I think I'll leave this update alone for now.
