[Q] Bootloader lock on US variant(s) of X Style? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
To put it short I'm trying to buy a Moto X Style from abroad, since the local Chinese variant might not be compatible with custom firmwares in the future.
Problem is, I've asked some resellers that claim to have the "US variant" for pre-order, but got the response that it has a bootloader lock that can't be unlocked. Before you ask, I know about the existence of Moto X Pure in the US, and understand that the Pure is easily unlockable, but it costs quite a premium here. I've also heard that there's *no* carrier variants of the X Style at all in the US, so it should be free from carrier influence.
So:
1) Is there a regular X Style alongside the Pure, or is there only the Pure on sale in the US?
2) If the answer to 1) is yes, is the Style's bootloader unlockable? If not, considering that there aren't carrier variants, why?

1) No, the Pure is the only Moto X being sold in the US (one caveat is that Verizon is releasing a Droid Maxx 2 which may be a rebranded Moto X Pure)
2) Yes, it is unlockable

I see - this agrees to my previous research. Thanks clicked
I don't give a ____ about Verizon's version because 1) BL lock of course, 2) I'm still using old-school GSM/EvDo1x networks, 3) the Droid Maxx 2 is a rebranded Play and the X Force has a Snapdragon 810 which I swear I will not touch this year.
I contacted the reseller again and told him about this, and this time he said he isn't sure because stock hasn't arrived yet. I guess he was just making guesses based on previous generations.
I'll leave this thread open for more feedbacks if there are any.

Moto X coming to Europe

This is now looking increasingly likely.
I'll post the original thread from the moto G forum.
But to summarise:
Moto have announced a press event in the UK on Jan 14 for a 'new addition'
And on the moto website under jobs, they are advertising for a project manager for motomaker UK
Pretty convincing arguments I'd say. Woo Hoo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601368
Love this to happen. However I don't think it will be a full blown Moto Maker yet. I don't think they got the infrastructure yet for it. Maybe a few colours and no personalisation on the back.
I do hope the price is good as well. Maybe £329 for 16GB and £369 for 32GB. Think that will be awesome.

Moto E leaked

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/new-motorola-xt1021-xt1022-xt1025-smartphones-expected-may-1445438
Seems to be even more entry level than the Moto G. They quote the price for the dual SIM + TV as R$599,00 - I'd expect it to retail for something like $119,00 / £89,00 / €129,00 SIM-free, unlocked.
Why would a more entry level phone cost more?

I'm going by Amazon prices here, but the cheapest G goes for $179 / £115 / €159,00. Obviously you can find it discounted, but this isn't what I'm talking about, I'm talking about standard prices.

Unlocked? Without contract?
It also looks like a Moto G LTE version is going to be released in the coming months as well. I would imagine the next version of the Moto G will have LTE as a standard feature. The costs of including multiple bands for LTE is coming down so it only makes sense.

I'll probably get,the moto e. Got this brand new 3 weeks ago for $99 on amazon boost mobile version. I use it as a tablet
Best phone I ever had

I might get the LTE Moto G since the screen on my current G is cracked/scratched at the upper right. It's barely noticeable, but it's noticeable enough to annoy me. Quite a few people like my phone and it isn't available here (I don't think Digicel plans on carrying this phone and it's expensive as hell to import) so I can most likely sell it for some good cash once I get the LTE version.
I am so buying it just for the lte features xD
I want the moderator to ban me.
Really ?Why here is so expensive ?

A £150 moto g model is out now with micro sd and lte support though.

Moto Droid Turbo/Maxx - Indian avialability, Price, spec thread

Yes. Moto droid turbo (a) Moto Maxx is a great mobile. A 5.2" QUAD-HD, 3GB RAMmed, Snapdragon 805 device with turbo and wireless charging. Take my money already moto.

Should get it in India by December I guess ?...one of the few phones m on the lookout for ?

The Moto Maxx will go on sale today in Brazil through Motorola’s website. By mid-November, it will arrive in Mexico. Additional Latin American countries will get it shortly after.

Moto Maxx Lounge

Hi all,
Here you can have your say about anything in general, random stuff to chill out, Let it be about the moto maxx or anything else. I will start with introducing myself. Semseddin from Turkey, sporting the moto maxx xt1225 imported from Puerto Rico. It is weirdMy profession is jewellery but i work in phone business for quite some time. It was an hobby which somehow became my job for the living. I can shoot moto maxx versus any brand/model videos if you would like.
Overally, i am happy with the hardware but software isn't as good as it should have been in my experience. It looks like motorola didn't spend more of its resources for the moto maxx for a better android 5.0.2 update. Anyway, while i don't have high hopes of a early bug-free 5.1 update for this device, i wonder if we would ever have some custom roms based on the stock motorola software. That would make my day. I have never been a fan of android lollipop material user interface. Its design language doesn't appeal me. White background color in everywhere doesn't offer better battery effiency as well.
Maybe you need try cm and put some dark themes
Maybe but i prefer to wait until a stable or rc released

Yeah but there are a lot users complaining of wifi and sleep of death issues in cm12 thread. Only If i were a student who had time to flash roms daily which is not the case for me.
Thinking og buying the blue balistic nylon and black kevlar backplates.

Are you guys rocking the Maxx naked or with case?
My maxx is naked. I even pulled out the tempered glass screen protector on it cause with the screen protector, the device gets hotter. I bought a pair of sms audio street on ear headphones today which performs very well with the maxx. It is been a great experience after using htc one m7 with a pair of beats in ear headphones for my rock music archive.
So we finally have our own place here in XDA forums seperated from the bootloader locked sibling verizon droid turbo. Nice move by XDA management, better late than never. I believe this will somehow benefit all of us the international Moto Maxx owners. I am thankful to @SyCoREAPER since he is the guy behind our seperation somehow. Not sure how he did it but we are here in our own apartment instead of being guests in the Droid Turbo forums. I've not lost my faith in this device just because of it being a pure spec whore of a phone as some of the tech reviewers named it in his review.
Moto Maxx will skip 5.1.1 and get Android 6 marshmallow, this is coming from a serious source and it will not be a year after as some of us thinks.
I would love for you to be right, but do you have a source? Even If you can't share, is it at least credible? Thanks

These are my assumptions from our conversation with my source. Credibility is not issue but i can't give a name. I can tell that i've been told they're low on resources so they had to use their tiny amount of resources for the right direction without wasting it. i have been told not to worry as motorola didn't forget our moto maxx. All of that conversation was about makes me think they will skip lollipop releaseses for our devices and deploy 6.* with it. The cheap devices like Moto G / G 2014 , G Lte , Moto E , E2 etc. are deployed 5.1 cause it was their last update. I believe we will get 6.0 before 2016. :good:

I really want to believe this, but it is hard for me after seeing the poor and bad support that Motorola has given to this device, the most expensive device (along with N6) and the lack of service and support is awesome. Besides, Turbo already has 5.1, and I doubt it would be the last update it would receive, so I have opposite feelings about what you are saying.
Currently I don't have any problem with the software, is just "fine", but I would really like to see new features and improvements on it. Another thing I would like to see, is the new Moto function that is on the Moto X Style, the one when you take the phone out of your pocket and put it on your ear, and Moto Voice automatically activates and you can tell commands like if it was a call.
Let's hope this would be true, right now most of the manufacturers already have M on their hands and most of the changes should be merged for now, so it would be an easy matter to have the final M release of the flagship devices.

I can understand your frustration as we maxx users are having from motorola. Turbo got the 5.1 cause it skipped 5.0.2 and they had to deliver it, they are doing the same to us with 6 i guess, skipping 5.1
I thought this was a good place to jump into the Moto Maxx fray. Just bought a Moto Maxx imported into the States to use on AT&T. I was originally considering a second-hand Droid Turbo since my area has AT&T LTE band 2 in place. I also bought and tried a 2015 Moto X as well as a Nexus 5X, but returned both of them. I didn't actually use the 5X in fact, just refused delivery after hearing the reports come out last week. I'm really looking forward to the best of Motorola without the screen size shenanigans of 2015 Motorola =)
Actually new folks can perhaps wait a little bit more for international Droid Turbo 2 version (looks like Europe and Latin America are going to get it, XT1580, maybe Moto X Force, but codename is KINZIE for both).

I think that Nexus 6P would be a better option, I don't trust Motorola any more regarding updates or support, they totally messed the loyalty of their customers.
Besides that, I don't see any huge improvement from the Maxx to the Moto X Force.

Besides GSM/HSPA, has LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28 < That takes care of AT&T, T-mobile in U.S., Vodafone in Germany, and all of Latin America.

But the Nexus 6P doesn't have Qi wireless. Actually neither 2015 Nexus has Qi wireless in spite of Google actively promoting the standard in Nexus phones since 2013. Very shortsighted of them. If I don't want to plug in my phone, then I don't want to plug in my phone. They could have included Qi wireless AND USB-C. It's not either/or, you can have BOTH. In my opinion, NEITHER 2015 Nexus is superior to the 2014 Moto Quark phones
Like you, I also don't see a huge improvement from the 2014 Motorola Quark (Droid Turbo, Moto Turbo, Moto Maxx) to the 2015 Motorola Kinzie (Droid Turbo 2, Moto X Force). If Motorola had given the Kinzie STEREO speakers and rear camera OIS, in addition to the microSD, I would be more tempted.
Also why does the 2015 Motorola successor to the Quark have a SMALLER battery than the 2014 Quark? Was 3900 mAh too big?

Probably they thought that there is no point in giving 2 days of battery life to power users, because at least in 1 day you should be somewhere to charge the phone; another reason is that they have a lot of trust in 810 efficiency regarding battery consumption.
Still for me it was a pretty stupid decision, they are acting like iPhone makers decreasing the battery of the device when they should at least maintain it the same size; we already have phones out there with batteries with more than 4,000 mAh, so bigger batteries I think is not an excuse right now for any manufacturer.
I love my moto maxx, its a beast
Greeting guys, i just moved from the Z3 forum to here (cause my z3 was second hand and in the end too much hardware issues). With my Maxx arriving soon (today if im lucky) what is your recommendations guys ? I'm already grabbing drivers and stuff to unlock the bootloader and root after i get the 6.0 update i think. But what to do now ? I'm aware that we have some roms but do they have the voice functions like retail ? Or should i keep the retail if i like these functions and just de-bloat as much as i can and put some app to help extend the (already titanic) battery life ?

Looking to buy a Motorola X Force

I've tried on swappa but no luck. I've also tried eBay. But they seem pretty expensive. Anyone know of someone or a place where I can pick up an x force? I'm in California.

Don't buy it in other place your bootloader may be impossible to unlock.
You can also custom your Moto for free if you buy it on the official website.
For exemple you can have your name or anything on the back of the Moto.
You can also choose custom texture, and color for your phone and even a premium leather instead of the ballistic nylon! (but leather is not free of course, personally I have order my Moto in leather)
http://www.motorola.com/us/products/motomaker/FLEXR7
The name is Motorola Moto X Force for the entire world, except for the US where is "Moto Droid Turbo 2" I ****ing don't know why lol.
Yeah I was looking at Motorola website.. It's a lot cheaper but I don't have Verizon. I use cricket so I'm worried about some of the bands not being compatible.
I'm currently using an LG v10 and Xperia but thinking about getting rid of the v10 for a turbo 2/x force.
Mainly for that shatterproof screen.

Should I buy this phone? As I'm very impressed by the features of it but worried that will this phone and its LTE work in my country?
