K01a 5.0 root!!! :d :d :d - MeMO Pad 7 General

Hey guys!
I hope this is the right place and format for this post and I hope it comes in handy, I've tested this method on two (2) K01A's and can confirm it works.
Came across some instructions on a japanese forum to root Version WW_12.8.1.33 (5.0 Lollipop) on the K01A!
Download (ZenFoneRootKit_20150614.zip (by shakalaca)) - (I'm below ten posts and can't post links)
I'm running windows 7 with Minimal ADB and Fastboot installed, I unzipped the file to its installation directory
- (C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
Check that your tablet is running 12.8.1.33 in Settings -> About
If it is, go back into C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and double click on 'root.bat'
A command display appears with the words 'Press any key' so go ahead and do that and sit back.
Your K01A will reboot into fastboot and run some flashing commands and then reboot itself.
Viola, You have root and SuperSu installed!!

I've recently pulled my K01A out of storage for a new project. After updating to 5.0 I realized all the root options wouldn't work. Followed your directions and BOOM....root is active. Thanks!!

perfect!
Worked like a charm on my Asus Memo Pad 7 ME70CX with sw version 12.8.1.33
Thank you!
Now I'm going to remove all useless bloatware pre-installed

People!
To those above that have successfully rooted a K01A:
Please attach a working copy of ZenFoneRootKit_20150614.zip , and /or post the "hash" (MD5, etc) of the zip you used.
.

Thanks! it worked on my MeMo Pad 7 ME70CX. You can find the tool on this page: http://www.naldotech.com/how-to-root-asus-zenfone-2-with-1-click-root-tool/

My tab is now running WW_MeMO_Pad-12.8.1.41-20151112 (5.0 Lollipop) after updating my firmware from 4.4.2. It was not rooted after the update/upgrade and I thought I could try your guide... Unfortunately, it didn't work... Is there any way that I could root my ASUS MEMO PAD 7 K01A with this firmware? Thanks in advance!

If you find a way to root that OS version tell me.

My KO1A is no longer a paper weight. Thank you.

Thanks.
Worked like a charm on my MeMO Pad, it's a K017 with the WW_12.8.1.33 update.

Any chance at an aokp, aosp, or dirty unicorn rom? Would be sick then.

I have this firmware :

does anyone know if this procedure works well with this update? Thanks.

I have successfully rooted my MP7 running WW_MeMO_Pad-12.8.1.41-20151112 using this guide.
1. Download and install Asus PCLink for the drivers: http://liveupdate01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LiveUpdate/Release/ZenFone/APP/LinkRim/PCLinkSetup.exe
2. Open PCLink and make sure your device is detected and connects. Close PCLink once connected.
3. Download and extract ZenFoneRootKit_20150614: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B936USMlQhtKbmZLZDE3N1JMazA/view
4. Open CheckBeforeAction.bat from the extracted ZenFoneRootKit. If you get the confirmation that you're good to root, your device will reboot to bootloader and reboots again. Wait for it to "fully" boot.
5. Run Root.bat
6. MemoPad 7 is now rooted. :victory:

How are you getting 5.0? Whenever I try to do a system update on my K01A it says that 4.4.2 is the latest version.

If your already rooted on your current firmware, it probably won't show up.
I found out about the update online, wiped my tablet to factory, system update came through, took less than 20 minute's to install then I rerooted with this method
You could also just download the 5.0 rom from the Asus website, copy it to your sd card and rename it to k01a_sdupdate.zip, reboot to recovery and update manually.
Hope this helps!

I did a full wipe so I could install 5.0, but when I try to do a system update it says my system is up-to-date. What the hell?

That's really weird, maybe try the manual method?

Could you post a direct link to where I can download the update?

Is firmware update incremental?

I just bought a Nexus 10 with 4.2.1. After startup, it shows that a new firmware has been downloaded.
1) Is firmware updating incremental? Or does it directly jump to the most recent version?
2) Where (which directory) is the downloaded firmware stored?
3) Is it better to update the firmware all the way to the most recent version and then unlock/root? Or the other way around?
Thank you!

Just my own observations:
1) most recent
2) I forget where but it is deleted once applied
3) update all the way as it will often save you time plus depending how you change your device once rooted OTA updates may not work. Eg. You modified or removed a system/gapps (Google) app

I just bought mine a couple weeks ago
1) When I fired it up for the first time, after going through the whole initial setup, it said I had an update, but it was only to 4.3. So I updated it. Then, after restarting into 4.3, it promptly downloaded the update to 4.4.2, so I installed that.
2) I believe it is stored on the root of the device in /cache directory.
3) Like @3DSammy mentioned, it's easier to get it all updated first, then unlock and root. That's what I did, and everything is perfect. Running Philz Recovery and stock rooted 4.4.2 with Xposed Framework.
Nowadays, this tablet is a steal at the price it's going for. I don't get all the people that complain about it only having a dual core processor. This thing is as snappy (maybe even a little snappier than) as my N7 2013.

Thanks both of you for the information! I just finished updating the firmware: it went from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2, and then 4.3 and finally 4.4.2.
Could you provide a thread where detailed steps (as well TWRP link and SuperSU) are described for unlock/root on 4.4.2 using Unix command lines such as fastboot?
Thanks again!

Hi,
I didn't see any update from you from either here or the Manta Help Thread, so I decided to type myself a guide for you here. Using Unix command line it's quite easy to root. Just follow the procedures below and you should be fine .
First of all, you need to have Fastboot and ADB. To do as such open your command line and type:
Code:
wget http://www.undergroundandroid.com/developers/xLordAIOx/bin/fastboot
wget http://www.undergroundandroid.com/developers/xLordAIOx/bin/adb
Now that you have both files, you need to setup them to be able to use. As you're an Unix user you'll probably get what I'll do here, you can do it slightly different, but this way was the easiest IMO, also it makes the procedure for next times using adb and fastboot easier. Type the following:
Code:
sudo mv fastboot /usr/bin/fastboot
sudo mv adb /usr/bin/adb
sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/fastboot
sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/adb
Now that you have adb and fastboot set up it's time to start the real thing. First of all, make sure to backup your device, as everything will be lost in this procedure! First you need to unlock your device bootloader (if it is already unlocked, skip this part). Please, go to settings, "About Device" and click multiple times "Build Number", a new tab will appear in settings, called "Developer Options", go there and enable USB Debugging. Now plug your Nexus 10 on your PC and type this:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Wait for the device to reboot, when it turns on again, you'll type the following:
Code:
sudo fastboot oem unlock
Now follow the instructions on your tablet screen. As soon as your bootloader is unlocked the device will reboot, so you'll now download the recovery and the Superuser.
Get the TWRP from here (download the .img file): http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/128
Get the SuperSU from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Copy SuperSU to your device internal memory (that's probably empty now) and rename the .img file of TWRP to recovery.img. Now enable USB debugging again (it's explained above lol) and replug the tablet on your PC. Time for typing again! (Please, open the terminal in the folder where the recovery.img is located).
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Wait for it to reboot, and then type:
Code:
sudo fastboot boot recovery.img
(If you want to install the recovery permanently in the device, type 'sudo fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' before issuing the command above).
Now you probably see a screen like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click in Install and select the SuperSU zip that you copied to your tablet internal memory earlier. When the flash is complete, reboot the tablet and congratulations! You're rooted :victory:.
Hope this helps anyone who needs it xD.

[OTA] How to capture Android 5.0 Lollipop official firmwares

Welcome to the Official Motorola Lollipop firmwares thread.
Here you will find the Firmware images of Lollipop for Moto G 1st generation once available.
It will be useful to have all variants of the awaited OTA here, since all devices have some differences in hardware, so here I will be placing all OTAs once they are released.
How to capture an Over The Air update?
If you want to contribute with your specific carrier OTA, once your OTA is available, do this:
Download the OTA but don't install it yet. With a ROOTED DEVICE, use some root explorer and go to /cache folder inside the root folder of the phone and copy the downloaded ZIP file to your emulated SD card, then copy it to your PC, upload it to any server you like and submit the link here to have all firmwares in one site.
The OTA will be named like Blur_Version.173.44.9.falcon_umts.Latam.en.AR (this is an example of an Argentinian retail Moto G 4.4.4 OTA ZIP package).
As I said, you need a ROOTED DEVICE to do this, so, if you want to contribute to this database, do all this procedure and unroot your device, or restore your firmware with this guide to make a clean install of the new firmware.

That's just my opinion but should related to android L threads be created once we at least will know when it comes? Or even better when it will be released?
There is already one thread have been closed http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/lollipop-t2929720
I'm just saying that this thread is kinda pointless for now.
Yea I thought placeholder threads weren't allowed on XDA

The thread you mention is useless.. But this will be useful since it will take no more than some weeks to see the update. So this thread can be opened right now, since I give info and instructions to capture an OTA to share with everybody when it is available... And I'll put my OTA for Arg retail Moto G here..

This is not just a placeholder, since I give instructions to capture the OTAs when they come up.. To anyone who wants to help with this database I give that instructions with some time before the OTAs roll out.
There is already a thread for Motorola Firmware Images. Please keep this thread OTA Updates only, and reword the OP to reflect this.
Cool..! This will have good database of Android L OTA's for all variants and easier to grab them once available in a single thread. But please make sure you update the OP as soon as someone shares in posts :good:
I think you can even add Variant names in advance at OP like XT1033 , XT1032 so on.
"Official" ? OP work for Motorola?
If not then its a community effort which is better than Official in my view

Thanks for this, helped me capture my 5.1 OTA update
actually I have found a way to capture the OTA without root,
step 1. download the OTA but dont install it..
step 2. power off the device and boot into bootloader mode
step 3. flash custom recovery like twrp 2.8.6.0 (fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery.img)
step 4. boot into the custom recovery, go to the file manager and go the /cache/ folder
step 5. copy the update file from the cache folder, and paste into the main sdcard root area
step 6. connect the phone to the computer via usb cable while in recovery mode
step 7. copy the update file to the computer.
now to install the update, just reboot back into bootloader mode, flash the stock recovery back with fastboot (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
step 8. enter stock recovery mode (to show options - hold power and volume up for 3 seconds)
step 9. apply update from sdcard (you will see the update file still there - Blur_Version.XX.zip)
This works, I have tried this 3 times before on 5.0.2 firmware.

Did you try rolling back the system to stock and then updating it? If you are root, lenovo updates usually do not work. Use the Intel Flashtool to flash the stock ROM, update, and then redo the root jig.
So far, that has been the only way to update my 1050L.

Guys, Did you use the intel phone flash tool tool to flash the stock rom? That should surely work. Going to SuperSU and full unroot usually does not always work.

Hello !
Please, if anyone can upload here factory.img from your tablet 1050F - > after that we all here we'll can install the new update firmware !
Please upload factory.img ONLY if you didn't performed a /data wipe .

Extracted system.img, boot.img, recovery.img & easyimage.zip from here : https://cloud.mail.ru/public/3xYFUNQWZnNp/YT2-1050F_S0187_150324_ROW.7z
Simple installation using only fastboot, with the device in bootloader mode :
> sudo fastboot flash boot boot.img
> sudo fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
> sudo fastboot flash system system.img
> sudo fastboot flash /data/easyimage.zip easyimage.zip
> sudo fastboot reboot
At this time ( device was downgraded to the old firmware : S000187_150324 ) , and System Update has found the new firmware : S000198_150422 - and also was successfully updated to the last firmware
Thanks again Choosen8, for your link :good:
You can also use the Intel Flash Tool for this. Instructions are in the root thread. @surdu_petru. No problem. Hope also for others that it will work.

SP FLASH TOOL Tutorial to install TWRP / Custom Recovery in Lenovo K3 Note

UPDATE: Hi. This is just to notify everyone that I am not maintaining or replying to comments in this thread anymore.
K3 note was one of my most favorite phone of all time, and will always be, but it's way too old now. I am using and doing 'research' on other devices now.
So please pardon me for not replying to you. But you can always find help regarding issues on tons of other places!
:highfive:

Installing custom recovery on K3 Note using SP Flash Tool
(COMPLETE TUTORIAL)
NOTE:
This post helps you if you need to:
1. Fix a bricked device
2. Install custom recovery to install custom rom later
3. Make your device bricked (if you do not follow this post correctly)
You will find the necessary files related to this post in the attachments
First, get your PC ready:
Download and Install "LenovoUsbDriver_v1.1.13.exe", then Restart pc.
Download and extract "SP_Flash_Tool" zip (I used v5.1820_Win, but you may try latest versions)
Link to download : https://spflashtools.com/category/windows
Open SP Flash Tool (Double click on flash_tool.exe from inside the SP Flash Tool folder)
Go to Options > Option... > Download > Tick "DA DL All with Checksum" > Close the options box
Close SP Flash Tool
Now, the flashing part:
Download and Extract "TWRP_v3.0.0-3_for_SP_Flash_Tool.zip" *
Open SP Flash Tool, and From "Download" Tab click on "Scatter-Loading"
Browse the TWRP v3.0.0-3 folder and select the "MT6752_Android_scatter.txt" file > Ok **
Click on "Download" icon
Completely turn off your phone (BUT DO NOT REMOVE BATTERY) and connect it to PC using usb cable.
Wait till the Process completes and a "Download ok" box will appear with a green tick. Disconnect the phone from cable.
Done!
Now press and hold VolumeUp+VolumeDown+PowerButton all three buttons at one untill you see the "TWRP" logo.
The phone will boot into custom recovery you just installed.

* The provided folder has TWRP v3.0.0-3 recovery in it
To flash other custom recoveries (Like CWM, or other TWRP versions), follow this:
i. Rename your recovery image file to "recovery.img"
ii. Replace the "recovery.img" file inside the folder from TWRP_v3.0.0-3_for_SP_Flash_Tool.zip with your "recovery.img"
iii. Continue from Step 7
** You can also flash ROW/CUSTOM roms (which are made ready for SP FLASH TOOL) using this method. For that, Just select the scatter file inside the ROM folder (IN STEP 8)
*** REMEMBER If you have a MARSHMALLOW (Android OS 6.0) rom: Marshmallow roms need to be flashed with patched boot image for custom recoveries. Go to the index thread of k50 note for the patched boot images.
And by the way, there's a thanks button below if you find this post helpful! :highfive:

If I flash TWRP in this way, am I going to destroy ROM that is currently installed?
Since, I am not born with knowledge of flashing custom recoveries/ROMs, is anyone willing to answer?

Please refer to these two links. There are multiple roms for k3 note. Different roms have slightly different installation processes.

You probably has a marshmallow rom. Marshmallow roms need to flash patched boot image for custom recoveries. Go to the index thread of k50 note for the patched boot images.

If you are rooted, you can do that. Without root this tutorial is the only way.
Only works for me when USB is plugged while holding volume up, else SP flashtool won't start and not responding.
I'm on ROW S327 at the moment. Will this method work for me? Thank you!

Great job, but I never use it. I really need to learn a lot of things. Thank you so much.
@mauronofrio does this work for the T-Mobile variant?
Thank you so much for this, a must have!!
Does this work with oneplus 8 from t mobile?
I was able to ROOT Oneplus 5 with this tool, can this be used to ROOT Oneplus 8 as easy ?
Will this work for the T-Mobile variant? I'm on 10.5.8
did anyone try this on the T-Mobile oneplus 8?
After unlocking the bootloader (Oneplus 8; no branding) I flashed TWRP 3.4.0 and rooted using Magisk 20.4. After this the CAMERA app is not opening anymore though. And the AUTHY app is simply showing a blank screen. What should I do to fix this?
I don't necessarily need to keep the phone rooted, I only needed to do in order to restore some apps data with Titanium Backup. Once that is done if I unroot (not sure how just yet) will the camera and other apps start working perhaps?
Nevermind. After having tested various things I ended up rebooting the phone and that fixed it. thinking about it it started not working after I enabled the option "Magisk Hide". I guess the option requires a reboot even thought it's not mentioned.

Can this also install the international version on TMobile branded devices?
On the Device/Functions page https://toolaio.tk/devices-functions/, Oneplus 8 is listed as No on Stock Recovery but Yes on Stock Factory Image. Does this mean I can use this tool to "flash to stock" or no?
