Samsung Galaxy Tab A guest mode?!? - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hi, basically the problem is when I go to settings there is no option called "users". when I swipe down there is no user avatar. by the way android lollipop is the software version. I was watching a review on YouTube, there they had the option. but I don't. anyone knows why?

http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201506/20150620020245043/GEN_SM-T550_Galaxy-TAB_A_ENG_UM_LL_OC5_R2_AC.pdf - Page 66 describes how to set up another User account. Maybe after that it will give you options in the Settings? Not sure, don't have access to one of these tabs to play with.

I checked it out. It says go to settings > users.
my problem is that option does not exist. but thanks anyway

Might be something the carrier or region where you got the tablet doesn't support. No idea why, but there are carriers here that asks the manufacturers to not enable some options, such as the Download Booster on Galaxy phones. Either that, or maybe another updated version of the software enables it. You might look into custom roms based off of less restricted software.

I purchased an unlocked version. No carriers

The other way to do it is from the quick settings pull down, touch the profile pic (might be the standard person-head icon)

when I pull it down there is no user avatar (profile pic) nothing at all

What's the Build Number of the software?

Lollipop 5.0.2. The manual says the option of USERS in under the device tab in settings. but I don't have it.
Here is a screenshot:
http://i57.tinypic.com/9pur5w.png

5.0.2 is the android version, not the Build Number of the software.

oh sorry. The Build Number is: LRX22G.P555XXU1AOD9

I'd try to update to the newest version available, just posted at the beginning of the month:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P555/
One of the ones that ends in OH2 that corresponds to the region you are in.

Thank you. I will try that and let you know what happens.

anyone found way to bring back multiuser option ? (im on H2)

[Q] Muti-user support of Android 4.2.2 for S4

I am somewhat confused about Android's support for multiple users. The Galaxy S4 comes with Android 4.2.2. I thought the multi-user support (not just Accounts but users with separated data for apps) was part of the system. It works flawlessly on my Nexus and is easy to find in the settings. With the S4, the settings are somewhat "cleaned up" by placing them in tabs. However, I cannot find how to set up and use multiple users. It seems I can only add new Google accounts as in older versions of Android. Has Samsung disabled this feature? Or can it be found somewhere?

I beliece Samsung plans to use Knox software for user management and enterprise security. That software could not be included from the beginning, and is expected in a future update.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/24/full-launch-of-samsung-knox-delayed-until-a-later-date/
I though Knox was just for security and other enterprise features. So is it correct that there is no normal Android multi user support although Samsung is using Android 4.2.2? I cannot imagine that Samsung's implementation will be similar or compatible with Android's implementation. Does anybody know more?
If anyone if still interested, I found something: It seems that the multi-user feature of Android is only available for tablets at this time. Hence it is not present on the Galaxy S4. I just posted this for reference so people could find this in future.

Yes... but I'm having the same problem on my galaxy tab 2 7". Cant find an option to set up multiple users either
Re: Multi User support
Actually multi user is available, although hidden, for any phone with 4.2 or later. Although you need to be rooted. Add "fw.max_users 4" to the end of your build.prop and reboot. When you enter your settings you'll see clear as day "Users". Only bug I found is that you can't switch back and forth. You need the AOSP lockscreen for that.

If you're on an aosp rom, You can switch either from the lockscreen(you may have to enable lockscreen rotation and rotate the phone sideways), the power menu, or the status bar profile icon
hi guys,
is there any possibility to use multi user without flashing a rom ?
any ideas ?
thanks

[Q] Access Regional Carrier Menu

I know with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, you have a regional carrier menu which can be accessed using a key sequence on the dial pad. When accessed, a list will be displayed showing all the carriers which the phone supports using their 3 digit abbreviation. When you select a specific carrier and click reboot, the device will do a factory reset using the specific carrier settings you selected. I know the S4 will have the same regional menu but I'm curious as to whether or not I can access this through a dial pad sequence and if so, what the sequence would be.
Thanks in advance for any help which could be provided!
RESOLVED
Unlike the Note 3, the CSC (Consumer Software Customization) otherwise known as the Regional Carrier menu is a hidden menu within the Samsung Device model lineup. This menu will show a listing of scripts in the phone, depicted by a 3 letter code and specific to the carriers which can be preloaded on your device. If your device is unlocked and you wish to use it with one of the specified carriers, you can insert your carrier specific SIM, access this menu and "INSTALL" the specific configured script for that carrier. The question is always asked... "What is the benefit?".
Answer: With smartphones, they are mini computers and not just your typical "telephone". As such, you have multiple settings which vary among carriers. As such, by configuring your device to be carrier specific, it will modify specific settings which are proprietary to that specific carrier. As an example, it will modify the APN details, update your network settings to reflect access to specific modems such as 3G, 4G, HSPA+ and LTE and will also brand the device with specific apps which have been preloaded and configured for that specific carrier such as a "My Account" app. These are just some of the things to name a few which implementation of the proper CSC settings will provide.
Samsung realized that tech savvy people have figured out how to access these menus and this has resulted in fixes implemented in OTA updates to hinder people from being able to do this. As such, you cannot use the typical dialpad entry to gain access to the menu but do have the ability through ROOTING your device. Unfortunately, a ROOT will most likely "void" your warranty so it's at the discretion of the "end user" whether or not the warranty is important.
Thank you to all who assisted and happy trails!

LOL... Well there is an option to Edit/Delete and since I can not "delete" my post, I mine as well indicate it has been resolved and provide the underlying solution.

What has been resolved?.I understand what you were after as in your 1st post; but your 2nd post indicates you can get the dialler menu if you are rooted.
Since I am rooted......care to tell me the code for me to test then?.
It doesnt matter if you cant, as when I insert a sim, a box normally opens up for me to select which network I want, which then triggers inbuilt settings (apn etc)......and the phone works.
Many people do not wish to "root" their device thus "voiding" the warranty. As an alternative, they can unlock their device and dependent on their OS, they can access the "CSC Menu" through *#272*[IMEI]# Should their "new" carrier be in the default list of supporting scripts installed on the phone by the manufacturer, they can install the script which will "brand" the phone to the new carrier/SIM complete with all the required settings for that carrier. Doing this will BRAND their phone to the new carrier settings without having to root and install a carrier specific ROM etc...
Is this beneficial for you specifically? Absolutely not as you have rooted your device but many on here looking for information find threads which talk partially about something and then you see a posts claiming it's been resolved with no further detail. If I solve something on my own and feel it would benefit some, not all, I may as well post my findings so if someone encounters the same problem, they can access a thread which provides a solution instead of simply saying "FIXED".
You said it best by "It doesnt matter if you cant, as when I insert a sim"... Yes, when you insert a SIM on your rooted device you have access to everything you need. That does not help someone whom does not wish to "root" their device. Maybe I'm reading into matters too much but you seem upset about my posts That being said, ignore them. I'm not bolstering my post count but if I resolve something, I may as well post it since I cannot officially delete my thread but only "edit" it. By posting it's resolved and providing details as to how, this will alleviate someone wasting their time by providing an answer while helping those who may possibly encounter the same situation.
Cheers!

No.You state in post 2 that you can acess the menu if I am rooted.....so explain how its done since I am rooted.
Also the box that opens up happens when a sim is inserted on all the unrooted samsung phones Ive had, which then triggers carrier settings etc.
So to recap, you did not answer how to get into that menu, and I cant even see how anyone would need to anyhow.
That is all
You are reading way too much into the post and it's asinine. I asked a question, received some feedback via PM and resolved my issue. As quoted from my "Post #2": "As such, you cannot use the typical dialpad entry to gain access to the menu but do have the ability through ROOTING your device." -- I am simply indicating the dial pad entry cannot be used unless you have original firmware which has not been updated. If updated, you can ROOT which allows you to brand your device using alternative methods. Reading way too much into everything...
ROOTING = You can customize your device using many methods and as per your post: "I cant even see how anyone would need to anyhow" is correct for those who are rooting.
*#272*[IMEI]# = You can customize your device to a specific carrier should that carrier be listed in the pre-installed scripts. Your device must be unlocked but this method will not void your warranty by installing a carrier ROM already pre-configured on the device.
I may also add that you're correct! If unlocking a device and not rooting, once you input a non-carrier SIM, you will be prompted for a code but the settings do not always change. Sometimes APN settings are incorrect and there is manual editing required. The suggestion I made regarding the CSC menu will allow you to configure the device to the new carrier ROM without rooting. This will also "customize" the device to that specific carrier so unlike simply features such as APN etc... being changed, you will also have pre-defined apps installed specific to that carrier such as "My Account" and other specific apps you would not obtain by simply unlocking.
I'll make it clear that you ARE RIGHT! Let's leave it at that but for those who do not read so deep into my posts, I find many of them have been helpful as have yours otherwise we would not have received the thanks we have.
Have a great one!

Marshmallow OTA Rolls Out to Verizon-branded N6's

I received build MRA58R today via official OTA. Device is unmolested (bootloader never unlocked). It was 702 MB and everything went very smoothly. The device is really snappy--I'm a happy big red customer!
Nice explanation of Marshmallow new features:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/google-nexus-6-update/
Here's the text from the link posted above.
Google Nexus 6 Software Update
[Updates]
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.
Before you download:
Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network, or make sure it has a strong Verizon Wireless network connection.
Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update.
Current Software Update Benefits
Software Version: MRA58R
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your Nexus 6. Android™ 6.0 Marshmallow improves your mobile experience with new battery-smart features and enhanced app permissions that give you even more control.
Now On Tap: spot-on answers, fast
Now on Tap, a new feature powered by Google™, helps you stay on task by instantly pulling up relevant information, like driving directions and restaurant reservations, letting you get more done.
A battery that works smarter, not harder
Android Marshmallow's new battery features help your device retain its charge longer.
Doze: When your device is at rest, Doze automatically puts it into a sleep state, but will still allow all your alarms, notifications and calls to ring through.
App Standby: Your seldom-used apps will go into App Standby in order to conserve battery power for the apps you use more often. If an app hasn't been used for several days, its power consumption is reduced to zero. Apps will come out of App Standby immediately once you interact with them.
New app permissions
You now have specific control over what info you share - no more all-or-nothing access. Android Marshmallow lets you define what you want to share and when.
Simplified app permissions
Permission requested only when relevant
User controls to turn on/off any permission, at any time
Link apps without a prompt
Android has always let apps register themselves to handle web URL links. With the new app links feature, the transitions between apps are even more seamless. The platform can determine the default app to use for a particular web link and skip prompting users to select an app.
For example, clicking a LinkedIn connection request in an email could automatically launch the installed LinkedIn app to complete the action, instead of showing the user a disambiguation dialog or launching a web browser.
Direct Share
The Direct Share feature lets users share content directly to targets, such as contacts, within other apps. Previously when sharing content via the Share menu, the user would have to go through a two-step process. First, choose the destination app and then choose the target, such as particular contacts, within the destination app. But apps can now define direct share targets that launch a specific activity that is directly exposed to the user via the Share menu.
For example, the direct share target might launch an activity in another social network app, which lets the user share content directly to a specific friend or community in that app.
Text selection & text editing
Selecting text is easier in Android Marshmallow, with word-by-word forward selection and character-by-character backward selection for increased precision.
After you select the text, actions such as Copy, Share, and Search are shown in a floating toolbar above the selection. When you use an external keyboard to edit, you can use Ctrl-z and Shift-Ctrl-z to undo and redo changes.
Easier device migration with Auto backup for apps
When apps are installed on a new device or an existing device that's been factory reset, they automatically retain previously associated user data. Account information, settings, game scores, and even the layout of the launcher are restored. Default app settings, sync settings, and keyboards are also automatically backed up and restored on new devices.
Simple notifications and volume control
Android Marshmallow adds a Do Not Disturb feature (formerly Priority) with improvements to the design, including:
None/Priority/All are now activated with simple on/off switch.
Clearer options such as Total Silence, Alarms only and Priority.
More precise control of Priority modes, such as for repeat callers, and also by notification category, and starred contacts.
Additional rules flexibility, including those based upon events or with a custom duration.
Each sound stream can now be individually controlled.
Peeking Notification (formerly Heads-up Notification)
Has smoother animations and the ability to configure the behavior of each app.
Next steps and additional links:
Please allow additional time for the apps on your device to continue to download after the software update.

Which baseband version is this OTA? Just curious if it's the same 27R.

Ditto... 27R here, as well.
Can anyone let me know if they now are able to use the voicemail icon in the dialer after this update? I dont have this on pure nexus, but a friend with a nexus 6 that just took the OTA says it appears now
The voicemail icon in the dialer (it's actually in "recents") says my VM box is empty. The Verizon visual VM correctly shows what's in my inbox. All messages predate installation of Marshmallow (MRA58R). I'll test to see what a new message does and advise.
Result: VM in recents still shows empty. Verizon visual VM apparently overrides it (IOW, they don't both work). Does the VM in recents work OK on Verizon for non-Verizon Nexus 6's?

Updated phone dialer app

Hey guys first time poster here.
Ive been trying to search around but cant find any real solutions.
I find the stock phone dialer app terrible as you cant have favourites and just the overall appearance of it aswell is a little plain.
I downloaded the app dialer and I like the look and functionality of it but when i press to call someone it goes to the stock dialer but it takes about 15 seconds to get there.
Someone please help!
The standard dialers you find on play store do not implement HFP-CLIENT.
To my knowledge, there are three hfp-client dialers available;
1) The binary only one that the thing ships with,
2) The new one added to AOSP8 here: https://android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/Car/Dialer/
3) The qualcomm test application available on codeaurora.
There are problems with all of them for this application.
Specifically, as you note, option (1) is absolutely terrible.
A common problem with option (2) and (3) is that they don't interface with the chinese audio control hacks, which means that when you switch to a call, the audio won't come through.
An additional problem with option (2) is that it doesn't compile with less than Android 7.0 -- even though it actually specifies a minimum of 6.0, it depends on something with a minimum of 7.0.
An additional problem with option (3) is that it is a test application through and through, it doesn't implement the necessary background service to pop up a notification you can click on to answer a call. The application has to actually be *open* to do anything.
But aside from those problems with (2) and (3), the *good* thing about them, is that they are open source, which means that anybody who wants to adjust them so that they do work, can do so.
If I was going to pick somewhere to start with this, it would be with option (2). It is a dialer meant for end users, and would take a lot less work to adjust it to (a) compile, and (b) implement the needed audio hacks. Although technically, I do have option (3) working, as I mentioned, it has to actually be open in the foreground to do anything, and it doesn't implement the audio hacks.
Hi,
Apologies for the noob question but what do you do with the code in option 2 to install it on the headunit?
Thanks!

I just bought a Seicane unit. The model is listed as sp9853i in the settings screen. I haven't been able to find a lot of information anywhere about this unit. I have been trying to get a different HFP-enabled phone dialer, but no luck so far.
I did try installing FCC Launcher, which lists dialing through BT as a feature. However, it looks like the Seicane sp9853i provides the actual bluetooth functionality in the actual launcher. When I start FCC launcher, BT disconnects. Also, the BT properties are not available under Android settings, which is not terribly surprising, since it's a head unit, not a phone.

LG v20 H910, How to remove carrier name in statusbar?

Hi
I tried searching on xda if there is existing query like this but there wasn't that is why i created a new thread.
I have bought an LG v20 H910 unlocked in Pakistan with internal 64gb memory and on android 7.0 (not sure if rooted because i am not tech savvy, i just use stock rom). The device is unlocked and works with the sim that i put in but there is a branding "Pakistan telecommunication network" in the lock screen as well as on home screen taskbar when the sim is inserted. I tried changing the sim (on a different network) but it didn't resolve. I also tried finding the option in settings menu to hide operator name in the taskbar but there is no such option.
The point is, it is taking a lot of space on taskbar which is almost half of it and blocks the view for notifications. Also, it is quite annoying to see it. If it were a logo i would have ignored it but since it is taking half of status bar that is why i am annoyed and want it to be removed/hidden.
Please help me with this. I really love this phone but this thing is turning me off from using it. I have put my sim in old phone and using it till i find some solution for resolving it.
For reference i have attached the screenshots.
Same problem with "Telephonica 02 UK Limited" taking up about a third of the status bar.
Did you find a solution in the end?
Guess it depends on the carrier. I'm in Canada with "Videotron" and it's nowhere to be seen in the status bar...

Well not as of yet. I have found some workarounds but i don't know which one might work.
1. first option is to install system UI tuner from play store, granting adb permissions and see if the app opens any settings for hiding the carrier name.
2. flashing it with some other rom.
3. rooting it and then installing custom rom.
i have tried the 1st option so far and there is no such option in system ui tuner to hide the carrier name. I am afraid of doing the rest of other options because i am not a techy person and i dont want to end up with a bricked phone.
Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Netwok -> Ufone ? @awaisagha can you share with me your modem-dump of h-910, My H910 shows only ufone or the carrier i am using name, but my modem has got no carrier data
