Can't wait to get my hands on the z5 compact even if it's just to try it out.
But since I have a z3 compact am still undecided.Should i upgrade to the z5 compact when it comes out or wait for the next iteration?

The Z5m is a completely different beast then the Z3m
Z3 compact vs Z5 compact
Same Screen Size
Same resolution
Same RAM
Same battery
Differences are-
Faster CPU
Better Camera
Fingerprint Sensor
Heck..the.Z5 compact is even uglier

ooohhh how is the heating? That was like a big problem when i owned the z2 with recording it shut down pretty fast..

One thing that you've missed: the Capless Micro-USB and relocated to the bottom really huge pro, makes waterproofing A LOT more reliable!, (and removes the ugly magnetic charging port)
add also a lot of other specs derived from the chipset.
I've seen some pics taken on a Z5, and they look stunningly amazing.
Another huge pro for me is the new button placement, though it might be ugly, sony really knows what they're doing, why? because the old buttons made almost impossible use a selfie stick or car holder,
I always had to put it away from the center or they would keep pressing the buttons all the time . (I have a Z2)
Con, the same chipset is untrustable in terms of heating, it really depends on software, we really have to see how it comes.
Any rumors on release date besides just "October"?
I just hope it will have RAW support and i hope they redo the camera software because its pretty crap. I would like to see that they change the lower right button to something more usefull and more integrated like little round orbs in a ring so you can easy pick the mode you want.

Yea i already seen the video that was in the other topic bout the camera so thats why i still asked for RAw support because i think it was a highly requested feature and sony said it would add it if people wanted it. But i doubt sony reads these xda msg and no other way to ask them so guess it will never happen.

Why not? They can add it pretty easy and more high ends have this like S6 etc. and RAW support means more control.

the the Z1S has a larger image sensor compare to the Z1
The headphone jack was also moved to the center of the phone top instead of the side.
Did a little more research and found these changes.
3.5mm port is now more centred
microUSB and microSD slots have switched places
Camera is now on the right side
T-Mobile logo on the back.

I guess I meant to say it has a wider f2.0 aperture wich Z1 doesnt have
The Z1S or Compact has a 4.3 inch 720P screen, also the Battery is 2300 mah ...
That Snapdragon 800 Processor with Adreno 330 GPU must be on roll at that resolution though ...

They mentioned Background Defocus mode in the camera app during the presentation. Is it going to be exclusive to Z1s or not, I don't know.

Z1S is for T-Mobile which has 5" fHD display and Z1 Compact is the mini version.
Just a little confusion with regards to Z1 Compact. On the news section of GSMArena it says that it has OIS, Carl Zeiss Optics, IPS but when you look into the Sony phones section it doesn't state these three (TFT instead of IPS). Same goes on the Sony website but there it has Mobile Bravia Engine 2 + Triluminous Display.

Available in store Jan 22nd if I remember right from the press conference.
Also just confirmed with my Sony contact that it has full AT&T LTE support as well. Just have to get it unlocked.

z1 has open jack, so nothing new. To be honest this is pointless, so they add more ram, bigger battery and a useless camera. What is the point of that if they cant even provide a good working camera for other phones. Each update make the camera worser. Phone companies dont know what else to do, so they bump up the speeds and so on, think its best thing ever.

never knew the z1 had it first i had the xperia z and it had a flap on it so thats news to me
I read at Mobile-review.com preview that Sony finally removed those protective films from front/back. Can anyone confirm this?

Released globally in March.... but I guess globally doesn't include the US. We'll probably get Z2s in like august or something. This sucks though, hoping it comes to the US soon and with tmobile again.
I skipped in the Z1 because it's not that big of an upgrade. What I also like about Z2 is that FINALLY, another company decides to put dual speakers on the front of the phone for audio. Here's hoping the camera is a lot better, preferably in low light conditions.
Z2 looks awesome and promising. SONY is on the right track.

5.2.. If i want a big screen i will buy a tablet not a phone. Unfortunately z1 compact is like a cheap china phone without black glass cover.

Z2 looks nice and after seeing the samsung galaxy S5 i can say that Sony is the winner. I dont see the point in upgrading from my Xperia Z to any of those devices.

Yeah. it has thinner bezel, according to measurement in comparison with Z and Z1.

I bought the device and I was very disappointed with the camera. I tried different modes and settings and in all of them the same photos I took with the galaxy S2 were significantly better ! (regular scenes/light conditions).
In addition I have the flash leakage problem..
Also the camera looses focus during video capture..
I understand you don't suffer from these problems?
I think maybe the first manufacturing line has these problems which are also reported online, could you kindly check the manufacturing date of your device?

That SAR declaration paper with October 2013 date has nothing to do with the manufacturing date of the phone. That is just the date of that declaration.
My phone is made in February and it still has those issues. Bit I have got to the bottom of couple of them.
The flash bleed issue. If you are one of those who got the phone with free Sony flip cover and using it, that is your cause of flash bleed.
The cover sites a mm or so away from the phone due to the adhesive tape. That causes the flash to bounce off the edge of cutout of the case and enter the lens causing that white bleede.
This also happens with the slightly thicker cases or cases with camera and led flash cutout which is to close to the led.
Remove the case and ten take the picture. Mine does not show any bleede without case but shows with the case on.
Focus issues are very real. Specially in limited and low light. But not exclusive to low light. On manual at. 20mp the results are ago over the place. Superior auto is better but that is bad limitation to have. And with the video recording as well focus can go for toys every now and then . Specially in dynamic environment.
Hopefully Sony is working on the camera issues to be rolled out with. Kitkat update.

Regarding the flash bleed issue - It happened to me with no cover at all.. and from the Sony forums it does indeed seem like a problem that can be fixed only if the back panel is replaced or modified..
I also wrote in the official Sony forum (can't post link..):

I took a good old galaxy S2 and took the same pictures with both devices.
The sky on the S2 is much more clear, the one on the Z1C was grainy and noisy.
Zooming in it was obvious that the S2 had more details.
Btw I did a "blind test" - didn't tell my husband what photo was from which device, and he chose the S2 objectively..

Maybe that quality and focus issues can be fixed with a firmware update, but if it is the case, I would expect Sony to already respond and say their working on an update to fix this problem..
Reading about Z1 users who are still waiting for their bugs to be fixed isn't very reassuring that it won't take long before they solve this.. which is very unfortunate :crying:

Absolutely scorcher of a phone and the cam is perfect for shooting like a point and shoot, especially its superior I mode which needs minimal intervention and gets it just right all the time. I only wish I could tweak more in manual mode. The feel of the phone, the over all classy screen and looks is just perfect.
i have a question for Z1C users, who goes to a lound parties/concerts. How does Z1C records loud music? i mena really loud... Is ift fine, or all we can get is only distortion?

nope xperia design is loosing its point
The main reason wich made me buy a smartphone now was the genius design of the XZseries, but since the Z3 they go this ****ty casual rounded borders way wich just looks as every other Iphone.replicant...
When I look at my naked Z2, damn I get a tech.boner with nice crispy borders looks like a chocolate.bar! Yummyyummy
And hopefully the Z4 comes with an Ultra version thats the only thing I miss bout my Z2 make them bigger, I anyways charge daily whats the point of small screen for the sake of 30% battery over the night so u have to charge in the mifdle of the next day xD
I also had seen an Z4 design earlier wich went more onto my desired way of design but i think it was a phantom....Ill post a link when I find it later

The Z4 will be almost the same as Z2. There are pics of the Display and the stereo speakers that are the same as our Z2's ( : So Sony heard us about the sh..ty Z3 design at least. I love my Z2 design also..Its just..stylish and elegant :fingers-crossed:

Saw it yesterday.Pitty that sony got hacked and now an info is leaking so early..but yes its better then the (Sony's iphoned version Z3).Thank god they are bringing back the z2's stereo speakers model as well.

Xperia Z4 will be a 5.5" inch screen and UHD resolution and snapdragon 805 (confirmed informations) not much, but little informations is better than nothing
Maybe im ther only one that thinks RAW support would be a cool thing to add to a phone that takes nice photo's but why didn't sony release the Z5 line with RAW support?
Is there a way to add RAW support when we have root on our devices?

Theres no way to add RAW except writing new camera drivers.
I would love raw support, I still don't get why the option is missing from most phones, just have jpeg as default and let us choose raw!

Well the LG G4 and other high end samsung phone can already shoot in RAw and i thought i seen this info bout sony willing to add it if there was enough people wanting this feature.
But if you look at the new Snapseed app from google it can edit RAW so guess the new nexus devices will get it also some day.
Demand RAW support from Sony, they will add it if there is a customer demand

Thats a pretty much dead end for half a year now as there are over 50 pages with over 500 messeges demanding full camera2 API implementation. No answer from Sony in any way...

Android 5.0 supports the new camera features via android.hardware.camera2, and Google defines three modes for the new camera features:
Legacy mode (no support RAW capture)
Limited mode (optional capability for RAW capture)
Full mode (optional capability for RAW capture)
Currently, Xperia supports Legacy mode in our Lollipop update which incorporate features and functionality in addition to our already renowned camera experience. As always, we're monitoring our customer expectations and regarding supporting taking pictures in RAW format, we will consider this for the future if there is a popular demand.

Word and sony released a camera app for AOSP with RAW so hope we will see it in the future in the normal app.
Sony z5 needs to have RAW support, sony should update with marshmallow update...

Guess well just have to wait for MM to start distributing, since they ain't gonna publish any bug fixes or patches before MM, according to their CM's on forum, since they say for some other bugs that they will be fixed with upcoming MM release. Its so hard to wait

The developers of the concept build (for Z3/Z3 Compact) said in December that they were discussing whether they continue with the concept in January 2016 with focus in some stuff (Full Camera 2 api included) or not.
It's just another promise (in a private google+ group), but who knows...
They've been just testing the Z3 firmware in Marshmallow. So I think the Z5 will have a lot of bugs.
They seriously need to improve the camera firmware in the Z5 line, photos at 2MP captures much more details than in 8MP. Not to mention 20/23MP which is still worse and useless at the moment.

i really hope they will add full camera2 API features because even Samsung is adding them to S6 line with MM
Don't hope too much.. MM is just around the corner, if this was included I think the news would have leaked.
Sony needs to stop using resources for a ton of useless camera apps and just focus on SA mode, a semi-pro mode (scenes), and a full manual mode like iphone has. Considering that single developers on xda can unlock manual modes, it is totally beyond me why Sony chooses to stay behind competition.
With z5, they seem to have started to take the camera matter more seriously, so maybe they are working on it.
In for RAW support on the Z5C.
Make sure you let Sony know that we want RAW implemented with api2 in MM!
