Lollipop:rapid battery drain. - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

After upgrade to 5.1,there are some serious issues .Whenever the tablet is woke,it heats up almost instantly, even if its simply left with the screen-on.This causes rapid battery drain.I think the processor runs at its peak state, all the time during screen-on.I find many users complaining about the same. So,if anyone has a solution, please be generous enough to share-possibly without rooting.

I didn't get the heating or battery drain but every time I rebooted the tablet it would optimize all the apps. A factory reset solved the problem.
Sent from my TegraNote-P1640 using Tapatalk

factory reset solved only the problems for a few days now weeks later the tablet still is not function normal.. heats up quick, seems to have cpu at 100% almost nonstop because of the nvidia tegra services running in the background stealing 30-60% cpu and makes the cpu go 100% full alltime thats what causing lag and heat problems for me so many weeks and because of this i barely use it so frustrating and nvidia dont even seem to care - posted on their geforce forums but not a word response month later fking clowns!

Hit thanks if works

Mine was overheating too. Now it's good.
In my case turning all apps configuration to optimised for nvidia worked.
To do that you need to download activity launcher app from play store then install it.
In the app press all then go to settings. Look for "SETTINGS com.android.settings.NvControlPanel" (If you hold you will be able to create a shortcut on home screen). Then in APPS tab press optimise all. From now all previously installed apps will be optimised and will not run at Max performance mode. New apps need to be optimised after installation.

Can someone look in their /lbh partition at the prop file in there trying to see if one can bypass Advents servers for OTA updates as it seems Advent servers do not have the 3.0 update. Thanks in advance

Not seen the overheating described, but I was seeing very fast battery drain on standby (25% overnight!). The main culprit turned out to be the Photos app - it wasn't syncing anything, but google services were using 40ish% battery and Photos another 20%. Since removing Photos and disabling unused google stuff (hangouts, google+ etc) standby is back to kitkat levels (2-3% overnight).

Is there a guide somewhere to fix the massive battery drain, in standby/hibernate that I have now after I upgraded to Lollipop? Just some settings or something easy to install? What's this Activity Launcher App then?

[Poll] Which bug/issue do you wish to get fix in the next official update?

For my experience of coming from ICS to this new official JB release I9300XXDLJ4 BTU.
I liked to see this phone being up-to-date on latest OS and getting better performance (Keep the good work up, Samsung!), but there are still bugs and issue that are found in this rom.
Which bug/issue annoy you the most? and wish to get fix in the next update by Samsung?
1) Lag on opening Contact and Dialer - It is more noticeable in JB, since all other apps open faster but not these two which should get speed up or keep in memory.
2) Multi-task with games and apps - when open 1 game and then play another game at the same time it will close and reload the 1st game from the beginning no matter how many free memory you have. Not cool at all. [Fix: bestMultiTaskingFix 5 by mattiadj read this]
3) Wake up from home button problem - On screen turned off, when press the home button instead of going back to your active apps you use before screen off, it go to home screen. This is very annoying and it affect everyday use. [Fix: No wipe need. Go to Application List -> S-Voice ->Settings -> Keep "Open via the home key" ticked. ]
4) Slow wifi problem - The wifi speed is found to be slower in JB compared to ICS.
5) Gallery full screen problem - There is a black bar on top of Gallery's photo in full screen mode.
6) Battery drain - Some user have report battery drain on JB. It could be likely that it need a full charge after flash to get correct battery level. Some user report flash + full wipe could solve it. I will spend a few more days on test.

Please post any issue you have experienced or workaround you have found useful on JB rom.
My findings with all this
1) I don't notice
2) I loaded up dead trigger & riptide gp, both restart from the point I left them. No idea what I'm doing differently.
3) Not affected by that
4) See 3
5) I don't think it's a bug, maybe a feature of the gallery
Definitely multitasking...

None of those. I would like copy and paste to understand the gaps inbetween sentences and paragraphs ideally don't need removing when copying large bodies of text. It was the same in ICS and I can't believe it's the same with stock JB.

Can you explain more what problem you have on battery drain? I only have used a few days.
What battery drain? No problems here...
This thread is making me yawn...
Thanks for quoting me! Glad to see that people are taking these problems seriously!
I recently wiped my phone in order to test whether that made a difference. None, unfortunately! I'm a heavy phone user and I notice the little things. I have seen people here saying that multitasking works. YES, it does but with apps!!! Apps resume their state, most games do not! The same games used to resume their state on ICS but they don't on Jellybean. Also, Android System keeps consuming a LOT of my battery. I've got the same setup and the same games/apps on JB as I had on ICS. There's a huge difference! It's quite annoying.
Another thing they need to fix is they need to give the Video Player its own brightness controls. I know that the system controls are just a swipe away but why take away a good feature, Samsung?

It feel that it need to list all the bugs here, this help people finding/raising the solution of the same problem. One day, it could be all solved.
For the battery drain, I am waiting for more of battery stats.
Brightness controls on video player could well be another motion as an option. That would be a good feature to show off.

[Guide] How to Keep Android System Drain Minimal - Battery Life Boost

Good Day all,
I have benefitted greatly from Google and XDA. So I thought I would provide a consolidated way of saving our battery's grace from Android System demonic drain.
I am running Euphoria with Furnace, and I had loads of Gapps installed.
I tried multiple attempts over a 3 days period and did many researches back and forth. And it came down to these few main culprits:
1. Android Location Services
2. Google Play Services
3. Qualcomm Location Services
4. Google Now Launcher
5. Unwanted Sync
Tools I have used to assist in this matter.
1. Disable Service - here
2. Greenify
3. Privacy Guard (should be in built in most custom roms)
4. Titanium Backup
Basically the highest causing drain came from Google Play Services and Qualcomm Location Services. These items persistently wakes the phone up and runs on the background. Using greenify on there further cause issues as greenify tries to hibernate these services over and over again, making this a self-made draining routine.
I followed this thread on Google Play Services drain fix and used the Privacy Guard to perform those tricks. I ran through ALL Google Related Apps and as long as "Keep Awake", "Wake up" or "Auto Start" is enabled, I disabled them. I also look through apps I suspect were waking phone up by looking at the last activation of those events (Keep Awake, Wake Up, Auto Start).
Next I followed this thread on Guide to disable google play internal services using Disable Service app. I also took the opportunity to look at both 3rd party apps and system apps to see if there are services that could be disabled. I disabled Apex Notifier as I realize I didn't needed its service.
Then the next sneaky culprit was the Qualcomm Location Services. Even though I froze them with Titanium Backup, they persist in the system. So making a backup of them, I uninstalled them completely. Hasn't caused me any issue with GPS or Maps. They are namely, com.qualcomm.location and com.qualcomm.services.location. Both appeared as LocationServices 1.0 on Titanium Backup.
I went ahead to Greenify many Google Apps, namely Google App, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Google+. I also Greenify many apps that Greenify suggested would slow system down or appear to run in the background which I have no use for.
Lastly I uninstalled Google Now Launcher as it was persistently coming up as alternative home launcher even though I froze it. And I also went through settings of apps to make sure sync were turn off. I only kept Calender and Contacts and Gmail Sync on.
Now I have reduced Android System from 34% to 2% and increased my SOT from 2++ hours to 4++ hours at least. Not an out of earth SOT, but I believe that's decent.
Hope I helped and I wish you all the best in your endeavour to reduce Android System Drain. Cheers.
Thanks bro
Will try and give feedback asap

I know that this guide is meant for CM based ROMs but I said to myself "ehh, what the hell" and I tried it on my Cloudy 2.2 and the results were horrible. Had to fully charge my device twice in order to go through 22 hours and a total of 2h of screen on time which consisted mostly of browsing and messaging. Wakelock Detector told me that the device was mostly asleep and everything was normal in the Batter Usage menu. Usually I get around 18-20h on a full charge with 2,5-3h SoT. Maybe the locations tweeks were not liked by my Tasker app and caused a huge battery drain, although it didn't appear that much as a wakelock trigger.
I am wondering if the problem was caused by Tasker or the stock ROM itself, but badly I do not have the time now to tweak around and I am reverting back to my previous configuration.

Try using GSam battery monitor to find out the real culprit. I used that to boil down to the final two irritants - Qualcomm LocationServices.

H910: hot and slow

My phone is super slow and gets very warm/hot. I changed the battery to a new one directly from LG, removed the SD card, several apps including Facebook. Still a problem.
What can I do? I wasnt able to figure what is causing all of this. I can see running processes but it doesn't say how much they load the phone.
Any ideas? Sometimes it lags so bad it might take a few secs to scroll.

You need to provide more info, like:
* Are you rooted
* Did this just start or has it been that way
* Did you install anything recently that coincided with the phone heating

Settings -> General -> Battery & Power Saving -> Battery Usage -> Battery Use Details
Make note of the most parasitic applications.
Then go into Apps and Force Stop downloaded or Play Store installed apps that top that list.
It would be highly unusual for factory installed Apps to cause severe battery drain.
The only exception is Chrome. Sometimes there are web pages that don't play well.
If Chrome turns out to be an issue, you need to go through and close tabs.
It may also require going into Chrome -> Storage -> Clear Cache / Manage Space

Thanks. After removing any app showing up as running (without me running it and not seeing a legitimate reason that it should be running) and installing Powerful Monitor https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glgjing.marvel
Cleaning cache using Powerful Monitor
Replacing TrueCaller with Hiya (TC was more anoying for sure)
Now my phone is so fast it feels weird. I even put back the SD card with no issues.
I am still not sure of the cause nor the solution.
On other note, after that I realized that I was two firmware updates behind (I was aware of being one behind) despite repeatedly and regularly checking for updates. Long story short, after calling AT&T the updates came through right away.
Sent from my LG-H910 using Tapatalk
It happened again. The solution this time was to remove all the offline Google map areas from the SD card and only store my current area in the phone's memory. So far, so good.

Pause Between "100% Downloaded" and "Installing..."

I'm reasonably sure this isn't specific to the V20 but thought I'd start here.
I have a rooted H918. Some/most of the time when installing apps or updates, there is a long pause between the period of time that the download completes (reaches 100%) and when the app/update starts to install. I found a thread or two describing the same issue. The "solution" was to exit the Play Store application, close it, and then relaunch it. After relaunching, the app that was at 100% downloaded will then start to install. However, if there are several installs or updates queued, I have to do the same steps for each app. So, not much of a solution.
I've cleared the app cache, reverted to the base version of the Play Store and then updated to the latest version from APK Mirror. Same behavior continues. The strange thing is that it does not do this all of the time. Sometimes, things download and install right away.
Anyone else observe this behavior? Any suggestions of what to try?

Guys, you're like Don Quixote, fighting a windmills that do no harm. Just leave the Playmarket aside and it'll install apps.
You know that after a apk file is downloaded it begins to be compiled by ART/Dalvik, right? That causes the delay after apk is downloaded and begins to be installed. The process which does it is called dex2oat. When I install many apps that dex2oat runs high in battery statistics with 3-4% of battery. When apps are being compiled this process takes both much time AND battery. So, this cause a delay and you're fighting that what can't be fought. And if an app is huge like Chrome compiling takes much more time than if an app is tiny like some sort of Jota+ text editor hence different time between "Sometimes, things download and install right away"
Also, try to update apps when on charge since you loose 10%, 20% or more battery if install many apps in one try, hence you'll got "bad battery life"

The delay that I am seeing is significant. If I just leave the phone alone, it can be as long as 10-15 minutes between the time that the download completes and the app starts to install.

I should clarify that when I say there is a delay, there is a delay after every app install. For example, if I have five apps that need updates and I update all, there will be a long delay between each one of them completing the download and actually starting the install process. However, sometimes, I may have five apps that need updates and they will all install with no delays.

I'm having no problems with battery life.
I went ahead and adjusted the CPU governor to "Performance" and noticed no difference in the behavior. I enabled the CPU monitoring in Developer Options and there is no spiking after the download is complete so I don't believe the compiling process is responsible for the delay.
What prompted me to post my question was that I have two V20s (mine and the wife's) and her phone is not doing this. Both are rooted and running the same ROM (10t).
I'm open to any other ideas...

Then I can only suggest you tweaked your phone somehow and those tweaks caused a delay. Of course 10-15 mins doesn't attend to compiling, I thought you meant like 15 sec a delay
Wipe to factory state your phone and see after that when and after what tweaks you'll get delays back

prevent colorOS from ending apps in the background

I finally found a system to prevent colorOS from ending apps in the background and not allowing synchronization.
you must be root.
these are the steps to take do not prevent the regular operation of the operating system.
A backup from twrp is recommended to avoid data loss or bootloop.
there are three offending applications and they are all system applications:
-com.coloros.athena
-com.coloros.safecenter
-com.coloros.oppoguardelf
packages must be frozen.
I decided to freeze these applications using TITANIUM BACKUP, and it worked.
finally the operating system is more fluid and has reported the following benefits:
- longer battery life with the screen on (since the system is not always busy terminating running apps)
- apps receive instant and scheduled notifications
- the temperature of the phone is always cold, the CPU works at lower speeds)
I finally master the resources of my phone.
the downsides of this mod are:
- inability to use the phone's battery settings, but this will not affect your use.
this is my experience and it works
I hope you can also contribute with feedback
I'll keep you up-to-date
Can't you just take usb debugging, go to adb and disable the apps? Does it need root?
Root permissions are required!
Hey,
Just to let you know. I did the same via adb shell and it works.

Enable developer option, switch on USB debugging.
Hook it up via USB, ensure device shows up and type away.
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.coloros.athena
Replace the apk for the other two and you've done the same that titanium backup does via root.
I've done this on c23, android 10
I did the same using adb
But i am facing a problem now.
Now apps are hanging a lot like it take 10 seconds after pressing back button in WhatsApp and my phone settings, so is there a way to undo my actions or solve this problem.
