If you have any questions to the phone, feel free to ask! I am currently using the Huawei Honor 7 as my daily driver and I love the phone so far. Even using it more than my OP2. As I like the Honor 7's 5.2 inch better than 5.5. For me a much better phone size and very pocket friendly.

Searching for ROMs?
According to XDAs rules it is not allowed to link directly to these, but on NEEDROM website you can find several ROMs for all the versions of Honor 7.
Playstore & Gapps?
My Honor 7 came with Gapps out of the box, but if you for some reason should loose the Play Store and Gapps after a factory reset, go into the Chinese App Store and search for "Google", find the "Play Store" and install that, search also for Google "Contacts" and install that, after a reboot, you will again have the Play Store and contacts will be able to sync just fine.

You can check on http://www.willmyphonework.net with your carrier, really depends on what version of the Honor 7 you are getting.

The batterylife is good, even for powerusers. I would say it is enough for 1 whole day.
But there are also different modes to choose from, like Performance mode, Smart mode etc.

I'd love to buy one, but I cannot imagine using the default OS, or anything that is not Android 5.1.
The track record (with Honor 6) for the availability of quasi-stock or CyanogenMod based ROMs is pretty bad, from what I could find.
Am I wrong?

Most of China based phone are a no go for those wanting pure Android. Only exception is One Plus now offering Oxygen OS, ZTE also offering another pure android skin for their new international devices, and i think Lenovo as well with their ZUK.
If you want pure android on Honor 7, you options are either to hope for vibrant developers using this phone, or using other launchers, or creating an Android theme which can basically skin nearly everything about the UI using Huawei's stock theme engine.

Recently bought this phone in Hong Kong and upgraded to PLK-UL00 C17B162 – Emotion UI 3.1 (the latest OTA) and google apps gets corrupted every few hours. The EMUI is "okay" as far as customizations go. Especially after you switch to using the google now launcher, which also dies when the google play services break down.
It's an expensive paperweight until some very nice developers port stock android for this device.

Hmmm Google apps should not get corrupted. I say this because I and many other have been using China version Huawei phones for years. So either there is no problem or something uniquely wrong with that one rom. Ill give it a try and see though.
For google apps, its a matter of going to Huawei app center and downloading google play store and then you have to also download the google contacts and sync app from the Huawei app center in order to get the google syncs to work.
Edit: We have a new dedicated forum for Honor 7

I'm pretty sure its this specific rom related, various chinese threads talk about rooting and downgrading so I'll try that later. Maybe see if I can get my hands on the intl version of the rom now that the honor 7 has launched.
Apps installed as you mentioned, and all apps work/sync fine, even after reboot. But after you lock the screen for a while gapps complain 'google play services are not supported', then any google app crashes on start, account is missing from accounts page, until data clear on google play services, after which you can re-add the account and things work fine again. In a failed state adb logcat complains 'no accounts configured on this device' but it tries to access some huawei app to get account type which gives NPE and crashes the app. Feels like something in the rom corrupts it.
/will start dedicated thread after this post

Would like to understand (cuz I'm interested in it): which are the perspective of Modding for this phone?
Is honor giving sources and so on (if i'm right it has huawei property CPU), or will user be stuck over EMUI forever? I'm not that sure of that UI, it seems to me to much an adapted MIUI.. or too much "Chinese style" (anything against that, but it's a different perception of the UI).
Thanks in advance, I'm very curious about this phone (and it's price)

I have no problems with Gapps on mine, working just fine since day 1.
But can someone that actually has the Honor 7 (or true knowledge about it) please clarify if it has NFC or not?
I have the Chinese 16GB version with Dual SIM, but I don't see NFC anywhere in the Settings, so I believe I don't have NFC.
But several pages says the Honor 7 has NFC?! or is it just the 64GB that has that or how?

Yes only 64gb comes with NFC. Plus it comes with the fast charger and dual LTE.

Ok thanks, but I also see and can enable the "Battery>Fast charging" option in my settings, so the 16GB also has fast charging or?
Also I noticed that in this video here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWeMmtgwpHU
The ROM looks (looks almost like Stock Android 5?) a lot different from mine, he has an App Drawer, while I don't have any App Drawer on mine. What ROM is he using? or it that the EU version? Can the EU ROM be flashed on the Chinese phone?
EDIT: nevermind, I noticed now that he is using another launcher than the stock one! that's why.

I've used a few Huawei phones in the past, but they can't compare to the Note 5, which I have been using for about a week now. The Honor 7 looks pretty good, but I'm moving forward with the best there is.

A Note 5 also costs MUCH more, pretty unfair comparison I would say.... and for me the Note 5 is way to big, I don't like phones that big.

It's really not that big. I'm coming from a OnePlus One, and haven't had any regrets. The OnePlus feels heavier and slightly bigger. I can use the Note 5 easily with one hand.
Yes, it cost much more, but it's a personal choice. I like the best of premium devices.

So,I did something and sent a mail for Samsung.

The update will be 4.4 and redesign of the Touchwiz like the new tablets (TabPRO).

I wonder if it will get all the features like more than 2 windows feature on multiwindow etc. I really want this tablet but now i'm very confused about if it's not going to get Magazine UX or it's going to get it but not all the features etc. Samsung should really make an announcement or something, or there will be a big pause on the sales of Note 10.1 2014 I think.
Always nice to get latest updates. But I'm not really sure about that touchwiz design. Seems alot more restrictive and what I love most about Android is that I can customise it the way I like. So we'll see?
also the magazine view is already kinda there when you open the my magazine app ?

You're right. But the most important change that I'm curious about is the 4 multiwindows feature. New UI would still be better as the current one needs a refresh but that multiwindow feature is a must have. So I think I'm gonna wait for Samsung to officially announce what is going to happen to Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablets. I hope they make it soon so i can get my hands on the Note 10.1.

I don't have the device right now. I got one but it was a faulty one so I returned it and now I'm waiting for everything to be clear about the future of the device. But if I get it I won't root it at least for a year because of warranty issues and last time I checked there was not any root method that doesn't trip the know counter. But still thank you
I'm pretty sure it won't get 4 multi window at least without root. The software would be similar to the 10.1 tab pro which can only do 2 windows.

Aside from the screen size, and the fact that the 12.2 NotePro has USB3, the specs of these devices are IDENTICAL.
The 10.1 TabPro is identical to the 2014 specwise 10.1 in everything except stylus.
Would I be correct in assuming then that the OS on these devices would largely be the same? So KitKat on the 12.2 NotePro would in essence work on the 10.1 2014...? So Samsung should have no issue or delay in releasing 4.4 to the 2014 Note?

Yeah so far it seems so, which is why everyone (Inc myself) are expecting a kitkat update for our tablet around the release of the Note Pro 12.2 , but like I always say nothing is ever simple with Samsung lol.
Honestly I'm more hoping for that fact that the release of these additional devices with the same specs results in more development for ours, because everything that works on them should technically work on ours?

I'll bet it's just a quick port. Even the resolutions are the same. We still need devs though, but there's no way this is bad for us.

Hmm... Emphasis mine.
Samsung made more waves this week because of Michael Bay’s meltdown than its products have, but the unsung story of CES 2014 may be Samsung’s first major move to rid itself of Android. Wait, what? You heard me. Google’s Android OS may have helped Samsung rise to the top of the phone and tablet world, but not every relationship can last forever. Samsung’s new user “Magazine UX” interface for its Pro line of Galaxy Tab and Note tablets is a major step toward de-emphasizing the Google in Android.
With the new UI, Samsung cleverly hides Google’s app store and apps under a pile of new home screens, designed to look like a lovechild between Windows Phone and Flipboard. Instead of looking at a home screen of icons, you browse a grid of giant square and rectangular widgets that you can resize and reform at your whimsy. You can still access your list of apps, but Samsung relegates them to a separate, ugly one-off home screen that you can customize.
Of course, tech savvy users of the Galaxy Pro tablets will figure out how to eliminate Samsung’s new home screens, but they look good, and many will want to use them or never realize they have other options. The trap is that if you use them, you’re effectively only using apps from Samsung. It’s also added in widgets and links to its own App Store, email client, and other Samsung services, but few for anything by Google. You have to go searching for the Google Play Store and other apps.
Virtually no apps you install from Google Play (you know, that app store with 1 million apps) are compatible with Samsung’s new interface – not even if they have big square widgets. Samsung reps told me that even most apps from Samsung’s app store aren’t compatible with the new interface.
With Samsung’s new interface, Google’s typical Android apps feel like the legacy desktop on Windows 8 – out of place. By hiding the old interface, eventually Samsung can swap it out for its own OS (maybe Tizen or Boxee?) and many people may not realize it – the old bait and switch.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/samsungs-secret-mission-cut-google-galaxy/So I like the look of Magazine UX but if it's either all in or nothing it'll be severely limited in terms of its usefulness. I currently have 21 home screen widgets across seven home pages. 12 are from Samsung. I'm not giving up 9 widgets I use regularly just to get a spiffier and potentially better experience from 12. I guess we'll see soon how Magazine UX co-exists with other "standard" home pages. From the article above it's not encouraging. Interesting approach on Samsung's part - it's good to be king.
2014 Android premium devices sould start at 32gb and offer 64gb as standard SKUs. 16gb seems silly now. The 10.1 model needs the options and stores actually stock them.

Simply put, I looked at my options on the used phone market, the flagships, all the new mid-range phones and I can tell you, nothing beats this X10 chip for the price. It should fly compared to my G2, and for only $260 Australian dollars?!? Insanity.
I'm started to get annoyed by all the "pre-sale" crap tbh. If the resellers don't get some stock soon, I'll end up getting a Moto X Play or Style...
Some resellers do have them in stock, even though it's only the 16 GB variant at the moment. Prime should be on sale by the end of the month.

settle the issue plz Xiaomi
I think Xiaomi should settle the issue with ericsson as micromax did. With helio x10 people are realy taking mediatek seriously ,it is amazing and also with new gen snapdragons not doing as well as those were expected xiaomi will be missing a lot and more than that we will be missing a lot in India.
I need redmi note 2 prime badly with helio X10
Hi guys! I live in China and bought RedMi Note2!
It's Chinese version so it doesn't have Google play.
I'll try to flash Global Rom later...

I struggle to understand why it's Xiaomi who are banned and not others. THEY didn't make the CPU, THEY didn't infringe on those patents, Mediatek did so surely it should be ALL Mediatek devices that are banned?

I'd be very interested to read a real users review of the device, if you have the time...
Thanks.
My Redmi Note 2 shipped on Friday, so I should have it sometime this week. I might do a proper video review, seeming it is not very often (i.e. never) that I have a gadget before other people.
It is kind of funny that the Redmi Note 2 codename is Hermes - I joined XDA Developers back in 2006 when I had a windows mobile device called HTC TyTn - codename Hermes
I also read today a rumour that later this year, they are putting an X20 processor in this phone. That would make it faster than the Samsung Galaxy S6 at 75k Antutu.

Nope, Helio X20 is not for Redmi Note 2, it's likely for Xiaomi 5
For now the Redmi Note 2 are 3 versions: China Mobile version, China Unicom Standard version, China Unicom Plus version.
There'll be another version for China Telecom later. (might be Qualcomm)
But I hope Xiaomi would keep their words!
They claim there'll be AUO/SHARP for display, but they actually use Tianma.
Also for camera, Xiaomi claim the rear camera is Samsung, but actually it is packaged by O-film, they only took Samsung's CMOS Image Sensor.
This all are not the worse, now they've changed the slogan on official website...
Both China Mobile version and China Unicom Standard version are available From 16 August , but I'm currently waiting for China Unicom Plus version.
The CPU is the same as HTC M9+ at 2.2GHz , and the GPU is 700MHz while Standard version is only 550MHz.
MIUI7 Global Beta ROM has been launched.

I just saw this, it looks like the galaxy note 8.0 won't be getting the lollipop update due to perforamnce concerns... dissapointing.
According to SamsungUK, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Lollipop update has been CANCELED and will not be getting any official Android 5.0 Lollipop updates. The company didn't release any info regarding the Note 8.0 Lollipop update before and its firmware hasn't even hit the development status at all.

Source: http://www.youmobile.org/blogs/entry/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-8-0-official-Android-5-0-Lollipop-update-Canceled-due-to-hardware-limitations
It was expected really....but I am not agreeing with Samsung that they cancelled based on hardware limitation, I do believe this device pretty capable of running Lollipop, but again their heavy TouchWiz may not.
Now, only hope left is if Note II gets lollipop, as its hardware specs similar to Note 8, it can back ported to Note 8, of course, if Note II gets Lollipop. Strange part is Poland Samsung still says lollipop coming to Note II, while Korea Samsung offically said No.
Considering that the device is now rather old, I am not at all surprised that 5.0 isn't coming. I never expected it to. My only complaint is the BS excuse that Samsung gave about hardware concerns. If they were actually concerned with performance, they would not have created TouchWiz in the first place. Lollipop was designed to run on very weak hardware and despite the Note's age, it is very capable of Lollipop and TW. With a dual-core CPU and 2GB RAM, it's no slouch. I would much rather have Samsung come out and say that the reason they are not releasing 5.0 on it is because they are no longer supporting this device.
If only Samsung would actually produce a replacement for the Note 8 I'm writing this on. I don't want a friggin' 10 inch tablet to get something with an S-Pen (don't want a Note 5 either). I was disappointed there wasn't a version of the Tab S2 with S-Pen support, maybe they could call it the Note 8S, or at a pinch a Tab 8A based on the Tab A. Maybe they are scared of cannibalising Note 5 sales.
I'm selling mine to Amazon - can get $85 if in good condition on trade-in. This device has never been that great - battery life sucks.
The Note 8 didn't sell well. It seems most folks aren't willing to pay $500 for a tablet that isn't made by Apple. Even the much cheaper Tab A with stylus isn't taking the world by storm. I'm doing my part, voting with my dollars, but apparently not enough people feel the way we do.
Part of Samsungs problem is creating too many products causing confusion. Theres prob 50+ note, tab, S version, 2014 edition etc.. every permutation possible. While apple has prob 6 ipads and 2 minis total. Too many products creates confusion and difficulty with brand recognition.
In phones there's the S6, S6 edge, and the S6 edge+ and the note 5 and that's just this year.

Doesn't matter Sam not giving a lollipop TouchWiz for Note 8, as I've never been a fan of TouchWiz. CyanogenMod 12.1 (thanks to @rgib) runs perfectly and I'm very happy with its 16 + run time with the help of @ZaneZam's Boeffla-Kernel. To me, this device still rocks even after 2 years! :good:

I only use it for handwriting and rarely for drawing due to the precision. I think there are 3rd party apps to improve functionality if you need it always.
cm12.1 works great on our tab but if you have one of the samsung 3rd party s-pens you loose eraser function in cm12 compared to cm11 it working... not sure whats going on there.
Bit bummed samsung didn't give us least a stripped down touchwiz lolipop update:/ but its samsung been screwed over by their lack of updates enough times to wish a nexus tablet had a active digitizer pen.
Has met my needs..

Just my two cents worth...
I have had the Model 5110 Note 8.0 since April of 2013. I agree that the battery life does not come close to the iPad Air that I had at work, however it has been a great tablet without any problems. I have never had to reset and hardly ever perform a restart. I have lollipop on my Note 4 and frankly it doesn't really add much functionality for me individually. I would like to continue receiving security updates to Android on my device, but, an updated OS is not a disappointment to me. It would be nice for Samsung to give us the option of more ram at purchase time, but alas, that is for another discussion. So far, I still have close to the original battery life when I purchased the Note 8.0 and I am a heavy daily user. Just sharing my experience. Have a good day...
Android 5 works fine, it's ****ty TW that is the issue

It works great on cm12.1 so TW is the issue agree! But without any official lollipop I doubt they'll get bugs fixed now in cm12.1 such as Netflix never worked on this tab (reverted to cm11 works great). nothing wrong w kitkat.

Note 8 3G (GT-N5100) 4.4.4 Poland
This might interest those who are longing for an Lollipop update. Compared to KK, I found LP to be bad on battery after testing for a couple of months. The culprit happens to be "surfaceflinger". In (CyanogenMod) LP it consumes 40+% of my battery where in KK (CyanogenMod) it is 20+%. Googling reveals "surfaceflinger" is a worrying factor for many even though we can't do anything about it (without making the screen displays nothing .
So, I decided to test TouchWiz 4.4.4 Poland. To my surprise this ROM is smooth & solid than any of the previous releases for our device. Also, it has 0 memory leaks (CyanogenMod has several leaks). After de-bloating and tweaking, I can get more than 17 hours of moderate usage (heavy book reading). Also, just 1% of battery drop per 12 hour standby. Btw, not yet tweaked with Amplify.
Other than the looks, which is not my main concern, I think KK is more solid than the LP, and also battery friendly!
plz help me with android version 4.4.4 foy my note 8 n5120.
links and and special instructions.
much appreciated tanks

Sorry friend, for N5120, the latest is 4.4.2. When I used 4.4.2 on my N5100, it was pretty solid too.
This is the same case for me. I still get a lot of use from my Note 8. This device with OneNote is proving incredibly useful for me. I'd get updated hardware for sure. I had Cyanogen 12.1/Lollipop running but it's a little bit too buggy.
My Note 8 in the US just had an update with bug fixes/stagefright fix and it seems snappier.

Done with samsung

Had to go back to my nexus 5 due to a few drops of water screwing up my s6.... Holy god and it is actually faster than the s6. Not hard video gaming but normal tasks it blows the s6 away. ....Samsung sucks. Android n has released images and we dont even have marshmellow.....pathetic
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Samsung suck I have s6 didn't like it I'll go with nexus next year the thing I love about nexus is they always get new updates and this Samsung you wait 100 years to get beta and then wait another 100 years to get official LOL
We've had official Marshmallow for days though .. So much smoother.
Agreed with you OP althought I'm still sticking with my S6 until new nexus arrives.
I returned to my nexus 5 today to see if I can flash Android N images on it and it's so much smoother and faster when it comes to app opening and animations. Of course in gaming and other similiar stuff it is worse but still, clear proof that amazing hardware doesnt mean anything if you have sh** software.
I'm gonna keep my S6 until the S8 comes out. I just can't stand on the looks of pure AOSP. I've been using the MI 3 since it came out and then devs ported/cooked an AOSP Lollipop for it. Yes it's fast and feels really clean. Don't pick me for shooting AOSP though. I liked and loved AOSP, but I grew tired it. There's nothing much to do unless you're a die-hard who customs his phone a lot which can either lead to: a.) Helpful with your everyday task, b.) Just for fun, c.) Waste a lot of time. There are a lot of phone companies here in my country who uses AOSP as their main OS. It just feels so generic nowadays. Like I said, don't get me wrong, I was once a flashaholic and loved pure/customed android.
Yeah me too. Before this (S-S5) will root after 2 months of usage. Flasholic before but after I didn't even bother to root because maybe I grew old now and s6 tw already mature enough with good performance and usability

That's what I felt too. With the MM update, I think I'm very greatly satisfied with my S6 now.
I just bought a Nexus 5x - updates mean more to me than hardware that just suck the battery when idle.....Android N convinced me that i would be waiting 18 more months to get something that I can have in 3 or 4 (or now if i want bugs). Nexus from now on for me....

I am also thinking of dropping Samsung. I really love my S6 dual sim, but its ****ing expensive and resell value is crap compared to the price you pay for initially.
Im a light user. I dont play much games and i mostly do web browsing and youtube on my phone. So maybe the nexus is a good option.
However I always end up sticking to my S6 because i am obsessed about camera quality particularly in low-light. and the S6 excels at this ( well low light is not that good but still better than other).
My question is , how does the camera on the nexus compare to the S6 ? it would be really hard to beat.
Sorry for my bad english.
so the only thing you care about is speed? and no, the S6 with MM is faster than nexus 5....it's faster than all android devices excluding the 6p....so please...if you're angry because you missed up you S6 don't blame samsung.....the nexus 5 is below midrange phone......crap camera, battery, design, screen.....
Well galaxy s7 edge is pure junk it still lags I saw mate8 and nexus 6p they don't even blink on multitasking and mate8 Is older than s7...just wait next nexus they will beat Samsung soon they will take over
Android N isn't out yet. It's at a alpha stage. Officially it will be out at the end of the year. Wait for MM and your s6 will be awesome. I know, because i have both (also 5X) phones.

TBH i have always been on Samsung for last few years. Initially with Note 2 more than 3 years and then now using S6 since launch. Sometimes i do feel lag but cant really make out as i hardly used CM on note 2 due to S-Pen features.
Just 2 days back i played mate 8 as its widely available here in China. I do have to say that the device was fluid fast and it was already on MM which i dont know when i will get it on my S6 G9200. I was mighty impressed with how the apps were could be open and app switching was fast even on the browser. Except on apps which refresh everytime you open all the other apps opened instantly where it was at the last state. Just the device was too big at 6" but i have to admit the device was damn fast. I think my device might be a nice Chinese Company since i live in China and its easier to get so might be Mi5 or Huawei product which are anyways half the price of Samsung flagships.
I'm keeping my s6 until it breaks only because I can't afford new phones very often, but my next one is definitely going to be a Nexus. **** TouchWiz, **** samsungs inability to update phones quickly. still waiting for MM on my s6 g920i

Sell Samsung Galaxy S8 to buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 ? Please give any advice!

Sell Samsung Galaxy S8 to buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 ?
I would like to buy a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 4/64 (global) phone.
The problem is that I don’t have enough money, so I figured out that I can sell my old phone which is Samsung Galaxy S8 64 GB Exynos (F variant).
That way I would have money to buy RN5 and have some spare money left to save.
MY PERSONAL OPINION AND COMPARISON OF THESE TWO PHONES:
Samsung Galaxy S8
Pros:
1. S8 looks very good and has a perfect size/ratio, it stays firmly in one hand and in jeans front pocket fits perfectly (no pain while walking like with some giant phablet).
2. It has the best screen on the market with great colors.
3. S8 makes better photos/videos.
4. Music sounds better with or without their premium ear-pods.
Samsung Galaxy S8
Cons:
1. When Samsung Galaxy S6 had Android 7.0 it was relatively easy to customize all (100% I think) the phone settings. It just took time.
However Samsung S8 Android 8.0 there was too much settings (about +75% more in compare with S6/Nougat) and it looked like it’s gonna take me forever to customize them all. A lot of this new functions I didn’t use cause I didn’t even understand their purpose.
I have tried for many months to setup the S8 but I never came even close to finish in part due to my not being able to understand what a particular function or option does and there were still so much more of them to setup and meanwhile I was getting more and more angry that the time was quickly passing by and I didn’t get the job done. The pace was extremely slow.
Now I’m kinda’ pXXXXXd off cause obviously this S8 phone is way too complicated for me to set it up and maybe even to use it correctly if I ever would have finished the setup at 100%.
2. In the S8 I didn’t install any additional apps from Google Play but it was still possible and quite easy to notice some delays/lags/freezes using the phone. Just imagine to freeze a flagship phone with bouncing back and forth in menu or default apps in the 8th Galaxy. LOL!
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 4/64 (global) phone.
Pros:
1. With MIUI it’s as fast as Samsung Experience but no lags, delays, freezes. Maybe it’s even faster sometimes. RN4 was even ultra fast.
2. The configuration of Android with MIUI is so EASY and FAST could do it in 2h tops! I can understand at least 90% of MIUI's functions.
3. MIUI has it’s version of KNOX/SafetySpace
4. RN5 4/64 is 2,5 time less expensive than S8..
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 4/64 (global) phone.
Cons:
1. Looks not as good as S8.
2. It’s not so comfortable while holding it in one hand as S8.
3. S8 camera is way better, but RN5 cam got improved since RN4 just to be good enough.
You better sell. LOL
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
You're asking this because you're unhappy with the S8. You should just sell it, or wait a couple of days and reconsider it.
That's 2:0 for RN5 so far.
only for the screen of s8 i wouldnt buy rn5
Hi,
I was in the same boat like you, but it was with Redmi Note 5 Pro.
All the pros and cons you have written are accurate. I bought s8 hoping for Pixel like performance. Except that, I like to have options and S8 gives a lot of options to customize.
Few things you might want to consider doing before making this irreversible action.
- Browse through Redmi Note 5 forums on XDA and really go through the negative ones to see if there are solutions for the problems.
- Know your friend/social circle. If people, whom you interact a lot, have phones like iPhone or Pixel or LG, you might feel uncomfortable using a cheaper product or chinese brand phone. (Tip: Casually ask them what they think about Xiaomi as a brand)
- You can use BxActions and customize the bixby button to your liking. (for showing off purposes)
- Look for s8 videos on Youtube for assistance. For eg. search for "s8 best features" or "make s8 faster".
- Redmi Note 5 UI may be smoother but if you love playing demanding games, the GPU might not hold up that well.
- Redmi Note 5 being cheaper is not a pro if you have already purchased an s8 and planning to sell it.
Rest is all up to you.

What do You think now?
That many options like in S8 maybe good for people who like to root and flash custom roms,
maybe it was Samsung's goal to show that there's no need for it in S8/Oreo.
That MIUI is a bless for these who don't like to root/flash and setup a million options to get the phone FULLY configured.

maybe it was Samsung's goal to show that there's no need for it in S8/Oreo.
That MIUI is a bless for these who don't like to root/flash and setup a million options to get the phone FULLY configured.

Absolutely! I got no reason to root my s8. The amount of customizations is so awesome and no other manufacturer provides this experience (I might be wrong, have never used MIUI).
- you can have edge lighting notification and call alerts (your choice of color and style)
- a whole market of native theming
- option to customize your lockscreen clock and your Always On Display
- Volume keys affect only media volume (new for android p, old for samsung)
- changing graphic resolution between QHD > FHD > HD (I am always on HD resolution, doesn't notice any pixelation)
- Secure folder: it is like having a personal space. you can login using another google and samsung account. Apps installed in secure folder are completely separated from your normal apps
- Lockscreen notification can be shown as just the app icons
- One handed mode. shrink the screen. (unlike apple which pulls the screen down)
- Pop-up windows (I can open 4 apps side by side on 5.8" screen)
- Iris scanner option (I wear glasses so it's useless for me) [more secure than android's face unlock and works during the night]
Tip for better battery life
- Go to Device Maintenance > Battery > Always sleeping apps > Add Apps > Select all apps except for your chatting and emailing apps
- Go to Device Maintenance > Battery > Unmonitored apps > include your chatting and emailing apps (I included nova launcher)
- Go to Device Maintenance > Battery > Mid (power saving mode) > uncheck Background network usage (doesn't affect your 'Unmonitored apps') > apply
My only dissatisfaction is regarding how slow the software updates are.

Thanks! point again!
You got me thinking there...
I also agree that the software updates are very rare especially for Android OS updates. I think that sec updates are going good as people got very angry through the years and Samsung listened and gives a sec update every month.
Unless you're looking to get some money out of the deal, sell the S8 and try to get Oneplus 6 or Xiaomi Mi8

Maybe it's because there are different glasses (shape, thickness and refraction parameters affect it).
Can You please send a photo of Your glasses on the table so we can know what type of glasses are Samsung friendly?

Probably depends on how clean your lenses are and the power.
I don't remember my lens power, last time I checked was 4 years ago.
