APN Settings Blocked From Change [SPRINT] - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello today i come to you with a small problem in the S6 EDGE Sprint variant Model SM-G925P. As seen with the picture below the APN settings are unable to modified via the main system settings, now i didnt let this stop me i took the liberty on researching how to edit/create APNs via Buildprop Editor but no dice there as well seems as Sprint may have taken the extra step to prevent these changes from happening.
With this SS you can see that ADD is Grey'd out along with all the APNs Tht Came Stock on my Phone.

CDMA Sprint HTC Hero to Page Plus?

Kinda new here and I've been searching Google for a good hour to no avail.
I have a Sprint HTC Hero with active service through Sprint that I'm looking to switch to a Page Plus phone number (just purchased a pre-activated Page Plus phone from a local gas station). Main goal is to get the Page Plus service working on the Hero with the Page Plus number as the number for it with text and calling functionality.
I've seen a couple threads where people have said that they flashed their CDMA Hero to a Page Plus ROM and have no problem using it. I cannot find a ROM anywhere that says it's strictly for Page Plus which is making me wonder: Can any ROM be used on Page Plus? And if so, does this mean I switch carriers (Sprint to Page Plus) using another method?
Any help or points into the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I know people often get flamed for "not searching before posting" but I would be eternally grateful for any help that any of you could provide me. Thanks!
Did you ever find an answer to this? I want to do the same thing.
Easiest way would be to go to page plus website and see if the phone can be ported over. If the phone is in a contract with Sprint still you probably wont get your number. I know you can get a locked verizon to page plus but i went through, mingo 1st.
From HowardForums concerning Sprint handsets to page plus:
* Sprint (and Sprint MVNO) handsets are by far, the most difficult. All handset are locked, The OTA activation is incompatible. The MMS system (Picture Mail) is incompatible. IMHO, these handsets are more or less for serious hackers only.

change to the spc code to 000000, then manually program the phone.

danknee, I assume that by changing the spc code that during this process you are changing the esn code to the page plus phone's eventually correct?
The reason I ask is I may want to try this eventually on the new Virgin Mobile Beyond Talk plan. If I could get my Hero on there I might just do that. Or once the Evo comes out use the Hero to try putting it on there for my son...
I put a Sprint Samsung Instinct on PP using CDMA workshop. I kind of stumbled though it though. Howardforums is a good resource. I recall having to charge the spc, but definitely not the esn. Also, I had to use CDMA workshop to push a Verizon prl unto the. phone. When registering it with PP, I entered I had some other Samsung branded phone(done online).
I was able to use it as a phone but data & picture mails were not.
Good luck.
Changing the spc is just so you can get the phone to update ota. Same step you rake when flashing to cricket. I've done lots of wm phones to cricket. Mms is by far the biggest pain in the ass. From what I understand people have flashed the hero to cricket with working internet, but apps that use the internet do not work. Also, no mms. You will probably be looking at a similar situation here.
Solution
This is in fact quite simple. I recently did it myself. Google Kitty Wireless, and there is a page for manual programming. Download the PRL from that page, put it on your SD card, and click the phone. Type in ##prl# (Im pretty sure this is right, if not google, update prl) and find the file and update the PRL. This will flash your phone and make it use Verizon towers instead of sprint ones. Now that the easy part is done, use Kitty Wireless' activate page, add your ESN, and your phone is on PagePlus, you need to finish though by finish programming your phone.
Now, install aLogCat, phone, ##data#, veiw mode. Go to aLogCat, hit menu, pause, and scroll up to find the MSL code. Now go back, and instead of hitting view mode, hit edit, and type in the MSL code. This will allow you to finish programming it. Now go onto that manual programming page at kitty wireless and finish what they tell you to do.
Any more questions, Ill check back later and try to help.
HTC Hero(sprint) on pageplus
Data is definitely not working. Its an overkill to use HTC hero on pageplus for txt and voice only. I think the refference to "Serious hacker" earlier means making custom baseband firmware. The changes need to accomodate inputting pageplus settings. Or I wonder if anyone tried to load verizon eris baseband firmware on sprint hero.
A few days ago, I have done for activating my Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. I ported my phone number, so I didn't change my phone number but my carrier has been changed.. lol.
I posted the instruction to do it. Here you are.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789751
Also, I got the information about how to make the phone working for data and MMS. I didn't try it because I don't need data. Wifi is around me mostly. If you need, tell me.
------------ I copied the instruction here ------------
I really appreciate you, TpyoKnig.
Now, FINALLY I activated my Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. I don't need to waste money for data plan (at least $30/mo). As TpyoKing helped me to activate it, let me post some information I have done for my Hero, in order to help those who want to activate Sprint HTC Hero to PagePlus. If you have any question, tell me. (I'm not a dealer for pageplus. so please don't give me any money.)
Here are what I've got. (I added my experience.)
1) thing you have to have is root for your phone, if you have that then great! Also you need to be running a NON-Froyo Rom (the froyo roms, I've tested thus far) are lacking EPST which will be used later to program the phone. --> My case, I installed NFX-Hero ROM. After I activated my phone to PagePlus, I'm running CM6 ROM. It works fine now.
2) Search the Market (Via WiFi) and download 'MSL reader'
3) Write down that MSL (will need it later)
4) reboot phone
5) download pageplus.prl from a web and put on root of SD card
6) on your phone pull up the dialer (hit the green button) and put in ##775# (##PRL#) and put in your MSL code you got earlier
7) select "update PRL", drop down "Folder" to "SD Card" and push down on your navigation ball and then long press the "menu" key to make your keyboard lower and select pageplus.prl then select "ok", then press your "menu" key and hit commit modification
8) phone will reboot (Congratulations you'r now on Verizon towers!)
9) Get PagePlus to activate phone (eg, contact a local dealer) , tell them you are manually programming a Sprint phone and give them the IMEI and that you need your MIN/MDN and SID. --> In my case, I purchased pageplus from Kittywireless.com. They promptly provide MIN/MDN and SID.
10) on your phone, pull up the dialer and dial ##YOUR6DIGITALMSL# , then select edit mode
11) change Mobile Directory Number (MDN=your new phone number from pageplus) to what is given to you by PP/dealer
12) change MSID to your MIN (Mobile Identification Number) as suplied by PP/Dealer
12) press menu
13) commit changes
I'm really happy.
It Does Work...
DATA and MMS do work I have a Hero on PagePlus and can do both. In fact I've also helped 3 others do that same .
http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip has instructions (not made by me) and APN backup and restore, and the correct APN file needed for PagePlus MMS. Also has instructions on howto get the data settings correct using QPST.
If you have any questions or need help when doing the process PM me or email me [email protected] and I'll contact you back ASAP
Thanks,
Buddy
Thanks guys, got the data working on pageplus using that tutorial.

No Problem . I made it easy . took me a while to get it all working.
Thanks for the helpful information. I'm having some problems getting my Alltel HTC Hero cdma on Page Plus. If you have time, can you take a look at the question I posted as a thread? It's titled "prl update for page plus on alltel htc hero cdma".
Thanks

no it doesn't that is not a requirement. just follow the directions that I've linked to: http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip
I have a few questions for everyone. I currently have about a year left on my sprint contract. I am willing to buy it out and switch to page plus, but I would like to save money on the phones. With sprint I have 2 HTC Heros. If I can get them to work that would save a bit of $$.
Question about procedure: In the directions (in zip file) it says they are for EVO, will it still work on Hero? Next question, in the directions it says "THIS TUTURAL IS ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE ALREADY BASIC FLASHED!". What does that mean? Is that the basic rom? My Hero is rooted and running CM6. My wife's Hero is stock sprint (1.5 I think).
Question about numbers (if you know...if not no biggie): I want to port my numbers from sprint to page plus.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

There was supposed to be more to that: I want to port my numbers from sprint to page plus. Should I do the flashing to page plus procedure first, then call page plus and get them to activate it? Or is the flashing procedure something I do after I join page plus? All in all, I want to keep my phone numbers, they might be worth more to me than the phone

Basic flash is what I've already outlined, in the previous page, loading the PRL and inputting your MDN/MIN to the phone , the rest of the tutorial is for acquired the beloved 3g and yes it can work on ANY HTC device, Hero/Evo

[WIP]Phone Calls On CDMA TAB

So I just picked one of these up and want phone calling ability on it.
I have already flashed the phone to cricket, as this is the service I will be using it one.
I found the APK's for the TAB that includes the calling. Of course that throws errors.
Thats because you can't replace the Phone.apk without resiging the whole /system/app and /system/framework folder so thats my next test
Good luck!
Look forward to hearing how it goes for you.
I think if this becomes commonplace, (ideal solution being a PhoneApp you download for free from the Market), then hopefully the Telcos will just give up on dumbing the tabs down and let them work as they should as standard.
Right now i'm creating a script that will auto pull the files, sign them, and push them back to the phone so that i dont have to do them one at a time.
How do you plan to get the tab registered on Cricket's network with a voice plan?
I don't think that it will be hard to get it activated on the networks. I have spoken with my friends at the local Verizon corporate store, and they are more than happy to activate my CDMA Tab from a "Tablet" to a "Smartphone" on my account.
Of course once the Phone is re-enabled.
I wonder, how many people out there are at work, spamming F5 on this thread waiting to see an outcome
It won't be hard to activate it for data from a tab to a smartphone but what about trying to activate it on Cricket when (and I am only assuming) Cricket doesnt have an IEMI ID for the device in their system? It's like buying a phone that only Sprint selss and trying to activate it on Verizon but Verizon's system doesnt have the ID for it.
Just my thoughts.... =)
dougvan,
Im using the verizon tab, cricket accepts other carriers devices.
I can activate this on cricket " Witch is already activated with full 3G now" all you have to do is give cricket the MEID activate it on the 45 or 55 a month for unlimited everything and provision the tab. Just like any other phone.
I messed up the first tab i had because i failed to backup the files, before siging them and pushing them back to the tab. I got it recovered thanks to someone posting the virign files for me. I took that back and swapped it out for a verizon tab like i wanted in the first place.
The sprint tab is definitely able to make calls out. I figured out how to make it dial out emergency numbers. A dial pad comes up and everything And that's on bone stock. This has to be possible.
infamousjax,
what did you do to pull it up ?
download launcher pro.. long press on homescreen to add shortcut, then goto launcherpro activities, goto network manager, and then pick emergencycall, its like the first option. it will make a shortcut on your homescreen that lets you make emergency calls. ive gone through the whole list trying to see if i can get it to make real phone calls but no dice. maybe if i transferred a new phone .apk in and then tried, it might work!
Well, first we need a recovery like clockwork for one. I was working on it but ubuntu on my pc is being stupid..
With recovery im willing to risk another tab but sense i swaped this out already im not.
The reason i think its not so easy to just swap apk's is because the whole framework + system folder needs to be resigned to work with the phone.apk.
I say this because when working on the EVO rom when i had to patch the phone.apk, i also had to sign it and sign anything that was associated with it on my pc. Or phone.apk would throw a bunch of "fc's"
Ok the tab on CDMA can make calls out. The problem is samsung removed a lot of stuff from the framework for the dailer.
That means we need clockwork recovery. This way we can build a rom based off the fascinate samsung.
AT&T and T-Mo are up - now we need some CDMA voice love!

Are there any TING Subscribers out there?

If so, how did you fix MMS for our phone? It something that I still have problems with.
I was able to find a solution to my problem. Although I'm still having trouble with TW ROMs, AOSP ROMs work great with this.
eduncan911 said:
Ok, I had the same MMS issues after flashing June 29th's nightly in that I couldn't receive MMS.
DISCLAIMER: My service provider is Ting - which is a Sprint MVNO (a hell of a lot cheaper, see sig). There are known problems of running custom firmwares on Ting because the provisioning doesn't get set right from Sprint. Because of this, we custom-ROMers have to edit our APNs to make MMS work.
With that that said, I had to edit the APN file and select the correct one in the APN settings. Once i did that, BAM, I could send and receive MMS from other Ting users as well as verified from Verizon and AT&T. The only thing I haven't verified is MMS from other Sprint users, since I have changed the APNs (will do that later today).
NOTE: The instructions below is to get MMS working on the Galaxy S4 with CM10.1 Nightly build June 29th. You may ignore the mms.plspictures.com settings, and it may work for normal Sprint users. Or hell, try to use the mms.plspictures.com anyways to see if it works on Sprint. mms.plspictures.com seems to be an open gateway for any carrier, as it is specified as the Roaming option in stock ROMs.
Step 1: The apn.conf.xml file...
First thing I noticed when starting to flux with my APNs is that CM10.1 includes a butt-load in their drops - that every variant gets (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Boost, Sprint, etc etc). Nothing about Ting in here. It seems to be a one-size fits all.
Someone that has the time to research what each specific setting is, and the codes, might be able to clean up CM10.1's APN file to match/get updated to match the Samsung oem one for Sprint variants. But I don't have that time.
At first, I tried to edit the CM10.1 file for Ting-specific requirements: replace all instances of mms.sprintpcs.com with mms.plspictures.com. This did not work, though I forgot about Step 2 below so it may have worked.
What I did was to copy the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4's stock/oem apns-conf.xml file off before I threw CM10.1 onto the phone. This file is attached as:
Code:
// original Sprint Galaxy S4's APN file attached
//
apns-conf.xml.gs4-oem.zip
// rename it to apns-conf.xml if you plan to use it.
//
// this file exists in /system/etc/
// you must mount as read/write to copy the file
// (or use root explorer, es file explorer, etc).
//
You'll notice it is a hell of a lot smaller than the CM10.1 version. Again, I think the CM10.1 version is a one-size-fits-all approach. How about we just use the Spring version, since that is our variant? See attached gs4-oem file.
Now, this still did not work on the S4 with CM10.1 6/29/2013 nightly. So I edited the file to match the Ting specifics outlined above, with mms.plspictures.com. Still didn't work.
Finally, I forgot one last step...
Step 2: Specify which "APN to use", whatever that means...
There is one last step you must do when editing this APN file: you have to "edit and select it" elsewhere in the UI. For some reason, while this does list the the APNs in your config file, the settings are still wrong. You have to change them as well.
With CM10.1, there is a "Voice Dialer" app. You must use this app to access the APNs to edit and select as I have no idea how to get to this edit screen without that Voie Dialer app. On Samsung's S4 stock ROM, there is a ##....# combination to enter to get to a similar menu - but still different.
1) Open Voice Dialer and say, "Open A P Ns", just like that.
2) Once open, you'll have to go into each APN and see if it lists mms.sprintpcs.com. If it does, change it to mms.plspictures.com. Change each and every one you see.
2b) If you edit, REMEMBER TO SAVE IT! This is so cumbersome, but after you edit a field, make sure to click the Menu button, and there is the hidden option to "Save" it. If you just click back, you'll loose your changes.
3) lastly, you'll need to select/click on the bullet-point to select the one you edited. If you are using the CM10.1 apn-conf.xml file, it's your best guess as to which one to select - I can't help you there. Using the attached apn-conf.xml.gs4-oem.zip, you only have 1 to select that had mms.sprintpcs.com.
4) Reboot.
A note on step 2 above, I was using the oem Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 apn-conf.xml that I attached to this post. So I only had 3 listed, and only 1 had the mms.sprintpcs.com. If you don't use the oem Sprint apn.conf.xml and want to try using the CM10.1 version, you'll be editing 4 or 6 of them! Yes, there's a lot more to edit. Make sure to edit each and every one though, because that's the only way I got my Galaxy Nexus to work on Ting as well. But now my Galaxy Nexus is using this same apn-conf.xml.gs4-oem.zip that I attached, only 1 to edit now.
OT: MMS over WIFI: the holy grail for us Ting users is getting MMS working over WIFI with AOSP-based ROMs (so we can limit our data usage). I've tried dozens of combinations and have come to the conclusion that the stock Messaging app in AOSP (and any AOSP-based ROM across several devices) is somehow hardcoded to use only a specific mobile-specific APN for sending and receiving MMS. If I ever get the time, among my dozens of other projects (building a house, by hand!), I would grab a dump of the AOSP, looking for how a text message is received and determined to be an MMS message, and see how it accesses which APN/network device to send/receive with. I would then compare it by decompiling the oem Samsung Galaxy S4's Messenger APK (if it is not obfuscated) - because the stock Samsung Galaxy S4 DOES SEND OVER WIFI! I verified this with Ting billing, as well as leaving Mobile Data off all of the time as well as with BetterBatteryStats (after I rooted the stock S4) and looked at what was using network bandwidth. Samsung's stock (and really sh1tty / non-Emoji-compatible / non-Japanese friendly / compresses images too small - all compared to AOSP's original Messaging app) Messaging app was listed as using Wifi for the size of the pictures I was sending!
Such a PITA...

LG v20 H910, How to remove carrier name in statusbar?

Hi
I tried searching on xda if there is existing query like this but there wasn't that is why i created a new thread.
I have bought an LG v20 H910 unlocked in Pakistan with internal 64gb memory and on android 7.0 (not sure if rooted because i am not tech savvy, i just use stock rom). The device is unlocked and works with the sim that i put in but there is a branding "Pakistan telecommunication network" in the lock screen as well as on home screen taskbar when the sim is inserted. I tried changing the sim (on a different network) but it didn't resolve. I also tried finding the option in settings menu to hide operator name in the taskbar but there is no such option.
The point is, it is taking a lot of space on taskbar which is almost half of it and blocks the view for notifications. Also, it is quite annoying to see it. If it were a logo i would have ignored it but since it is taking half of status bar that is why i am annoyed and want it to be removed/hidden.
Please help me with this. I really love this phone but this thing is turning me off from using it. I have put my sim in old phone and using it till i find some solution for resolving it.
For reference i have attached the screenshots.
Same problem with "Telephonica 02 UK Limited" taking up about a third of the status bar.
Did you find a solution in the end?
Guess it depends on the carrier. I'm in Canada with "Videotron" and it's nowhere to be seen in the status bar...

Well not as of yet. I have found some workarounds but i don't know which one might work.
1. first option is to install system UI tuner from play store, granting adb permissions and see if the app opens any settings for hiding the carrier name.
2. flashing it with some other rom.
3. rooting it and then installing custom rom.
i have tried the 1st option so far and there is no such option in system ui tuner to hide the carrier name. I am afraid of doing the rest of other options because i am not a techy person and i dont want to end up with a bricked phone.
Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Netwok -> Ufone ? @awaisagha can you share with me your modem-dump of h-910, My H910 shows only ufone or the carrier i am using name, but my modem has got no carrier data

Any way to bypass T-Mobile tether?

Like they tittle Say anyway to bypass T-Mobile tether?
If rooted...
Then theres various ways to bypass and if used together chances are good you won't have to pay 2x for data: modifying your apn to allow dun type, adding the line: net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
to your build.prop and finally using adb from a PC (u can try this even if not rooted) type the following from cmd or powershell: "adb shell" followed by "settings put global tether_dun_required 0" without the " "s and restart your phone n hopefully that should do the trick.
If still throttled by TMo go into Magisk and install tethering_enabler or TTL tethering modules. These modules weren't specifically made for the 6T but they should still be effective. If still unsuccessful then modifying the TTL from the device your trying to tether to will help hide the source of data aim for TTL of 65 to confuse tmo.
If your not rooted then use PDANet USB tether to a PC and hide tether options then create a hotspot from the PC your USB tethered to or use the WiFi Sharing option in PDANet PC Menu. At least thats what works the best for me and I've tried many many things... One other possibility if your on stock no root is to add a new apn with all the same info as normal fast.tmobile.net lte apn only enable MVNO type to GIO for apn type leave it blank and save it. This should hide the default TMobile apn (and make the editor think your using a 3rd party like Mint) now go back and edit the new apn and under apn type put: dun, default, mms, supl try and save it. It should error n say dun not supported... Press Home and force close settings-reboot phone. The dun sometimes will stick if this method isn't patched yet I'm sure it will be soon.
Your final options are to use an app from playstore like VPN Hotspot or VPN Tether they might slow your speed a bit but they should tunnel all your data thru a VPN confusing TMo as to the origin of data. Probably the best and easiest way is by using a custom ROM as most haven't been tainted by Google's latest CarrierConfigManager commits or carrier apn restrictions. If anyone knows how to reverse these commits easily or any other methods not listed please let me know.
I'm currently looking for a clean TMo only dun enabled apns-config.xml so I can overwrite the default n modify the build.prop for a quick fix on any new ROM or update...
As you can probably tell being throttled or having to pay 2x for the same data is a pet peeve of mine and I've spent some time researching the topic. I'd love to hear what ended up working for you or if anyone knows a solid method I missed. Or has a recommendation for a good ROM with unlimited hotspot features built in for the 6t let me know.
I installed the app from this thread, https://www.xda-developers.com/vpn-hotspot-share-vpn-connection/. You can also download the app in the Playstore. I also subscribe to Private Internet Access (https://privateinternetaccess.com) and they have an app that you can download from the playstore.
My phone contract has overseas roaming for a number of days but it restricts tethering and hotspot when roaming. The way I bypass this limitation is to run the PIA VPN, then run the VPN Hotspot app, and use the "Repeater" function. This has worked flawlessly sharing my internet connection with other devices..

Yeah I mentioned the VPN app along with a VPN my only issue with that method is the decrease in speed and some apps/devices don't like the VPN way much. Wish google would stop letting carriers dictate Android or itd b nice if the US would put their foot down and not allow companies to bend us over lock our bootloader's, phone's, devices we pay for or try and swindle us by charging 2x for data or throttle us...

Not sure what I did wrong, but it's not loading for me. All my APNs disappeared. I reset to default after replacing with the one provided.
