[SOLVED] [Q] Questions regarding custom ROMs on L720/T - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi all, I should be joining the jfltespr foray in the next few days with the new L720T I got, but got myself some questions that aren't fully solved after 2 hours of research. Thought I should ask here before my device arrives.
1) Do CM12.x and other 5.x non-TW custom ROMs require the new bootloader from Samsung's lollipop upgrade? If yes, then do they work with the old 4.4 bootloader also?
2) It seems many Samsung CDMA devices are plagued by the problem of not being able to hang up or receive calls under GSM. I have found multiple patches for that, most of which involves replacing libril and other RIL-related libs. But does this mean every time I switch between GSM/CDMA carriers I'll have to apply the corresponding patch? (God, isn't CM stubborn when it comes to world phone support...)
3) Any other things or patches specific to L720T that I should take notice when flashing / setting up? For now I feel content with having CM12.1, so base any suggestions on that please. Also, I'm not on Sprint Spark (I'm not even in the US), so I can totally ditch Spark and any service exclusive to L720T.
Thanks in advance!

Okay then, got my L720 hours ago (turns out it's a normal L720 flashed a MIUI for L720T, saves me a lot of trouble) and most problems are solved in practise.
1) Haven't tried 4.4 BL, but upgraded to 5.0 BL via Odin OD2 firmware, and TWRP and CM12.1 work just as I expected.
2) Yes I had to make 2 small flashable zips containing corresponding libril.so for GSM and CDMA. For CM12.1 other libs are not needed (I compared the files and only libril and lib-secril are different, the latter won't affect). Screw CM, why do they think global phone is an "untested and unnecessary scenario"?!
3) At least I didn't do any other things to make CM12.1 work with my local GSM and CDMA carriers, except for the libril.so replacement above. Which is relieving because you know what sh*t you have to do using QPST/DFS to Verizon Motorola phones when you want it global...
Has XDA become such a cold place that there aren't any response for a legit question? I have some other question threads in other devices' forums and most if all of them went unanswered just like this one. I had to either experiment myself whenever possible or just give up.

Samsung ATT Galaxy Express (SGH-I437) Central Thread

As a long time lurker of the XDA forums, I've finally decided to get a user account become a member of the XDA community. I figured as my first post that it would make sense to start a central thread for the I437 which I have recently purchased (RIP captivate - you served me well), as this is a popular phone but somewhat of a struggle to navigate through what has been done with development without it's own subforum. As a stop-gap to getting a subforum, I will be attempting to maintain this thread so that new users of the i437 have an easier time getting into the real potential of this device.
THIS IS FOR THE US ATT GALAXY EXPRESS I437. THE I8730 IS A DIFFERENT PHONE WITH DIFFERENT INTERNALS AND DIFFERENT DEVELOPMENT
For the sake of avoiding confusion, I'm going to request that we refer to this phone simply as the i437 or the ATT Express.

Glad I'm not the only one wondering why this phone isn't getting a lot of attention. I think this phone is a really great balance of features at a reasonable price. I'm still running bone stock with no real complaints other than the isual bloat and ATT blocking of tethering. I'm going to fix that soon though. =-O

Just curious if anyone has Kit Kat running well yet and what they think of it.
Thanks to the OP for putting this thread together and put all the required info for the Express all in one place. I was finally able to root, install CWM, and install ROMs on my sons SGH-I437. (He was always wondering why my phone had so much custom stuff on it) Now he has all the basics to start with to learn to customize his phone.
I would like to ask if anyone here has the skill (wishing I did) to be able to port this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860 to the Express. It's a nice recovery to work with. Have used it on my Note2 for a while and love the features it brings.

It's really easy and so worth it, Odin flash the recovery on here and just flash cm kitkat+gapps. Make sure you have the updated modem, if you flash without it I believe the modem is in this thread ready to be flashed in recovery.
I nuked my persistence partition in a flash some how, :silly: anyone mind dd'ing off one for me? Its not in the recovery images. Its dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p16 of=/sdcard/persistence.img

I've been running CM11 for a while now and it is running great. I started with some nightlies a couple months ago, kept updating to different nightlies, and I am now running snapshot-M5. I would recommend starting there and keeping a backup of it before trying the different nightlies.

[Q] Galaxy s4 I9505 with Google edition andriod

Hello guys, i just have a (few) question(s)
So, last week i installed Google Edition Andriod Kitkat 4.4.4 on my galaxy S4 I9505.
This rom is till now, still amazing, fast and better than touchwiz in any way. But i can't seem to find on the internet how and which version of xposed framework i need to install, since it is per model (i think?) which model do i choose?
since i have a Galay S4 but my rom is not from a galaxy S4, i get confused which one i have to install.
Some links to downloads would be great!
Thanks in advance

Hi mate
Basically it works in any android 4.0 + base rom device see from one of his threads
For which devices/ROMs does it work?
I develop the Xposed framework based on the AOSP sources. I'm personally using CM10.2 on an I9100 (Samsung Galaxy S2, bought in Germany). Basically, it should work on any phone which with a ROM based on Android 4.0 or later and an ARM or x86 processor (this is the processor architecture, almost all smart phones and tablets have either of those). Exceptions might be ROMs which are different from the original Android code in some very internal, central code parts (which don't need to be touched for most theming and enhancement modifications). But this is related to the ROM, not the phone itself.
The modules target higher-level code, so they are more likely to be incompatible with your ROM. Basically, the question is whether the methods and resources which the module modifies are similar on your ROM and on the developer's ROM. Let's say a module needs to modify the result of a certain method call. For this, it needs to specify the exact name and parameters that identify that method. If the in your ROM, an additional parameter has been added, the module can't find the method anymore and won't work. If the method can still be found, it will probably work (unless the rest of the app/ROM has changed too much).
There is not definite answer whether it will work. Just try it (of course, making a nandroid backup before is never a bad idea). If it doesn't work, just disable the module. You might want to inform the module developer (not me!) about this fact and provide details (e.g. a logcat and/or the content of /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/log/debug.log).
Try with latest 2.6.1

Which Cyanogenmod Build?

I have the Sprint Galaxy S4 (Not the Spark version) On T-Mobile. I'm really confused about what cyanogenmod version I should install on my s4, the jfltetmo or jfltespr
As long as your phone is unlocked for GSM use, just install the spr one (you won't be able to install the tmo one normally).
If you experience problems like unable to hang up or receive calls, tell me and I have something for you.

Building Lineage OS for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (N9100, trlteduos)

Hello xda community,
I would like to try my hands at building Lineage OS for the Galaxy Note 4 Duos. I was a little surprised that there seems to be not even an unofficial build for it (or cyanogenmod for that matter). Is there some technical reason why it hasn't been attempted yet that is specific to the Duos?
Otherwise, I'd be happy if someone could point me in the right direction. Maybe someone who already did it for a different model could post a basic guide since I have no experience yet in this area.
Speaking of it, my current level of experience is that I have rooted and flashed roms on android phones a few dozen times, and developed a handful of apps for android. So hopefully it's not too far outside of my skill-level.
Thank you in advance.
You can take a look at Note 4 General section, a new thread was made on how to build LinageOS for the Note 4 N910F/N910G. N9100 will not support 2nd sim if im not wrong, you need a dev who want to work on this project
Try this:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By...llGSnVyVDVfRlE
I downloaded this from the Chinese website. The latest build is 29 April. Donno why. Give it a try.
Thank you very much, I'll give it a try when I get to it.
Btw. the url is incomplete, I'm trying the original thread.

Kind of. Fingerprint and HDR camera don't work, which was expected, but for some reason phone calls don't work for me, I can call and receive, but there is no sound on either end. Otherwise everything seemed fine and the phone performed relatively well.

Galaxy Tab 4 "Value Edition" (SM-T533, matissevewifixxx)

Hi everybody,
I've been looking up and down in this sub-forum but can't seem to find an up-to-date ROM (Nougat or up) that seems to be suited as a daily driver for the Tab 4 SM-T533 "Value Edition" (WiFi only, no LTE). I understand it has a different SoC than the regular Tab 4, hence the ROMs available for that one won't work.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good alternative?
Currently, I am still on Stock Android 5, rooted (with SuperSU) and TWRP in place. So, I'm good to go, just need a decent ROM.
Thanks for any hints and tips!
Cheers
I have the Tab 4 10.1 wifi only edition t530 and there are craploads of roms. Old but still available. Most don't have working camera. I'm currently running a Dual Boot setup where Stock is my primary rom and LineageOS 14.1 is my secondary rom i can boot into whenever I'd like. Pie has also just been released for this device.

Thanks for getting back. Also for reminding me that I forgot to mention the model name. I edited the OP to point out that it's a SM-T533.
Now, the trouble is that the SM-T533 and the SM-T530 supposedly have different hardware so the ROMs for the 530 wouldn't run on the 533.
I'd be happy with Nougat already. Wouldn't even need to be Oreo or Pie.
Too bad, but it seems there aren't enough devices out there so that it would make sense for any developer to spend the time porting a ROM to the SM-T533.
Cheers

Hiya
i acquired ex demo model of the tab4 T530 and T533.
i managed to fix the T530 model flashing with Odin but no joy on the T533.
what i noticed is the the firmware for the T530 had BL CS and AP files ,but the T533 are only i big file, @Poorusernamechoice developer was supposed to break the firmware into AP BL and CS but alas i have not heard anything back , please assist anyone who has the know how
@musafir 7 Thanks for your reply. I don't believe that after two more years chances have become bigger that anyone puts a minute of work into this. :-( By the way: We still have the tab and it's still running, though it's being used only scarcely now.
