As well as works Verizon version...
Thanks!

There's a factory UICC unlock that comes on your Sprint/Boost factory firmware (Settings/System Updates). So you can UICC unlock for use outside the United States. You can also purchase a GSM unlocked variant from BestBuy if you plan on strictly using it outside the US.

So this means that I can use any of these variants (boost, sprint, boost mobile) on GSM network's but only outside USA?
Thanks

seems that way, and i dont think anyone is gonna crack the sprint based version as its a cheap phone and not worth the time and effort as opposed to getting a phone that is unlockable such as the verizon version of this same phone

Versions Sprint / Boost Mobile and US Cellular and if operating outside US in gsm, I have one running in Tigo Honduras

btw, there is an app in development by idoneapps to unlock the Sprint Moto E 2015 version. Im testing it currently and ill report back with my findings. Idoneapps has been stellar in unlocking Samsung phones, and it seems that theyre venturing out into the realm of Moto phones!! hope may be on the horizon!!

still testing the app. Its a MSL reader as of now, but im sure more development will continue as idoneapps never ceases to amaze me with their work and skill

Yeah, but I have been beta testing an app for idoneapps recently that is showing some promise. The devs at idoneapps have yielded some seriously awesome results in the Samsung world, so I'm hopeful that the fruits of their labor will produce a dsufor the moto e 2105 as well. What I posted that you quoted was before I got the betas of the app. Keep your fingers crossed and I'll for sure post up when an unlock is available!

AT&T definitely stepping it up with brand recognition, similar to how starbucks removed their name from the logo.
Looks about right. I wonder if Verizon's variant will still have the atrocious branding on the home button.

That's a nice, simply branding that doesn't take away from the device. Makes me want to abandon Verizon even more. We'll see what their official pics look like... (Hopefully the ones that were released are not official...)
Looking on the date on the phone, does it gives us a clue that it will be released on Thursday, November 15?

I used a penny to rub off the branding on my Atrix. As long as it's just silk screened print on the cover it should work here as well.
Now, if the AT&T Note II's hardware is identical to the international version (with the exception of the LTE radios), then I'm pretty well sold! Flash the international firmware, and keep the AT&T specific modem.bin, and you've got the best of both worlds!
This is perfect. Nice and simple. Now all they have to do is release the damn thing.

Alternative to unlocking Verizon moto x 2014

Both Motorola and Verizon have verified that the pure edition moto x, which is set up for T-Mobile, will work on Verizon as is. That phone is unlockable and rootable. And it would have the added advantage of being eligible for Moto Care protection plan - two year extended warranty covering accidents for $89. If anyone has a reason why this option is not viable please post it here.
Not paying 500$ for a phone..its not that serious
...
The T-Mobile version doesn't have CDMA
Good luck getting Verizon to activate that phone....
I've requested the IMEI number for a T-Mobile pure edition, and I'll run it by Verizon and see what they say about activating it.
>>Do you have a citation for this?
I have a recorded conversation with Verizon verifying this, nothing written.

according to verizon, the hardware is the same in both phones, the cdma band just hasn't been activated, and this can be done by verizon. I'm still waiting for an imei number from a pure edition to verify that. If I can't get one, I'll buy a phone and try it. I have at least 7 days to return it for a full refund.

I just spoke to a Verizon and Motorola tech support and they both said that the phone will work. However the Verizon tech requested the IMEI number to confirm and I don't have one.

Thanks
I'm traveling until the middle of next week, so have patience - I'll be getting to it when I return. I'm committed to trying to put a pure edition on Verizon, at very least as proof as concept, even if I end up just getting another DE.
So is this kind of like the nexus 6 being able to run on Verizon if you throw an already active Sim card in it?
---------- Post added at 11:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 PM ----------
It doesn't look like the pure edition supports LTE band 13 that Verizon uses. You'd only get band 4 in select areas. Also doesn't appear to have a CDMA radio as shown on Motorola's website.

Yes, my old sim card in the pure edition. Also, it seems to me much more likely that the bands are all physically present but selectively disabled in firmware rather than motorola making variations on the phone with different hardware. Which was what they basically verified two different times. So I'll try. Orders are running 11 days out, so it will be a while before I can say if this works or not.

So you have a pure on order?
Judging by how you have to put the nexus 6 on Verizon I'd say throwing an already active Sim card in it is more likely the path. I very much doubt a T-Mobile imei will work. Also I was thinking you might need to flash new modem firmware, perhaps the one from the Verizon edition to activate the CDMA radio and band 13, possibly an entire Verizon ROM. Anyone else have this thought?

Yes, you would likely have to do that. The problem is all of the Verizon Moto X 2014 are bootloader locked so how do you get the Verizon firmware?

The OTAs are just patches, not the full firmware. I believe Motorola Device Manager updates are the entire firmware file but I am not sure how you get at them with a bootloader locked phone.

American and international.
They have different radio bands enabled, that should be the extent of differences.
Unless you mean on the device, then I assume the phone will be labeled in software, and probably have the SKU on the case somewhere.

It has most of the same bands but not all. You'd not have as good coverage using the international version for Project Fi in the US.
Also the versions abroad that have these bands are likely considerably more expensive than the US version. As an example, in the EU the 6P starts at at over $200 more for the base model.

International you gain Asian bands mostly 1 (is Europe to), 9 & 19 are Japan. You loose 30(AT&T future), 12 (hopefully will work with T-Mobile at launch lol), and 13 (Verizon?).
I hope they fix it in the def community like they did the nexus 6, almost all bands on both devices.

Samsung has released the GS7 and GS7edge unlocked for all USA carriers

i just can't seem to find them on any site including samsungs
For what it's worth a Samsung rep in live chat told me they should be released by the end of the day
Would it be possible to flash the software of this unlocked variant to a carrier variant such as T-Mobile and effectively have an identical device?
According to The Verge:
The unlocked versions of the S7 and S7 Edge being sold in the US have the same hardware features as their carrier locked counterparts, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 12-megapixel cameras. They are also water resistant and feature both fast charging and wireless charging. They also have support for Samsung Pay and full manufacturer warranties.

So probably no root or unlocked bootloader. The only advantage is no carrier-specific bloat.
looks like the model is G930UZKAXAA

I'll be waiting to see if anyone is able to flash a recovery.img tar without getting flash fail from Odin. (Flashing G30F's should be ok, it won't boot at all, but just to see if the bootloader accepts the flash!)
If successful, I will build TWRP within a few hours of the confirmation.

Nope. The carrier specific phones do not support the same LTE bands, and T-Mobile S7 likely won't get 4G speeds on Sprint b/c of that.

No carrier-specific bloat and full range of LTE bands that work on all US carriers as well as many world-wide carriers. This is huge for CDMA users like Sprint which were crippled from LTE bands working.
Anxiously awaiting someone posting a good deal on this beauty. Thanks in advance.

No disrespect intended, but you realize this is an XDA thread.
That's kinda what we do here.
Many of the features of that phone you're currently enjoying were added to it by the manufacturer as a result of all the rooting and modding of Android devices conducted by the community over the years.

But Carrier's lock bootloader, Samsung doesn't afaik? Or is this new with the US S7? The European S7 doesn't have a locked bootloader on its unlocked edition, why would they for the US? That'd be really close to discrimination.

While this answer is correct, the reason why is not.
All the US carrier variants are the same hardware-wise, which means that the hardware does support all the same bands but because the bootloader is locked you can't flash one variant to another.
The S7 is the first Samsung phone with a single hardware variant that supports all US carriers. As such all the US variants have also been assigned the same FCC ID. In previous Galaxy phones, each variant, because it had slightly different hardware (to support different bands) was required be tested separately for FCC approval then issued a separate FCC ID. However, starting with the S7, only one variant (using special testing firmware enabling all US bands simultaneously) was tested to receive FCC regulatory approval.

The U started with the S8 and S8+ models. In the future it's supposed to be an update that unlocks the phones. When you put your carrier SIM card in it would provision it to work with that network. When this is supposed to happen IDK I haven't seen a hard date yet. That's why no matter what carrier branded phone you have they all are the U models.

all the phones are the basically the same US models ATT, Verizon, tmobile, sprint, for the unlocked version u will not have wifi calling, and I think hotspot, to tired at the moment, video calling will not work...
but u can fix the wifi calling by putting the firmware from ur provider if u need those features.
that's what been happening with the s8 plus models.
Well then lets get this bounty started i got $30 on it

The "U" stands for unlocked. The unlocked version should work on all US carriers. As for using an AT&T sim you do loose wifi/ video calling, however the hotspot does work.
