Nothing spectacular, more vanilla Android.

Sony is changing Xperia UI in Android 6, maybe even earlier but I doubt.
@niaboc79, buddy, are you in?

What a good time to be in Sweden! registering, thanks for the heads up!

If they go with Vanilla Android, I'm happy. The current Sony UI is alright, very light, but there things here and there that aren't very well thought. Spacing between some icons, alignment, etc. I'd rather see Sony add their features without changing the UI.

The idea is a lighter, closer to stock Android look I guess. If the screen shots shown so far are accurate, Sony will start having a UI similar to a Nexus phone with Sony features on top of it.

Hopefully we'll receive more information starting from tomorrow. I've signed up the first day this news came up, just crossing my fingers now. Seems like Sony wants to take a GPE approach on our devices. Would be really nice. Hopefully this means faster development and pushing out codes for aosp which also means that we are getting closer to fix the fish eye bug that all aosp ROMs and cm ROMs has for our devices. Either way that's just me wishing for the beat of our future.

Yes but what I meant was that hopefully Sony will start pushing out sources faster when and if they continue to do a lighter ui such as this test version.

Oh, I see. Hopefully they do. I wonder if the new UI will be ready for Android M or so. Let us know how it is if you get the chance to use the beta.

the icons need to be smaller, in my opinion. So big....haha.

Guys, I have posted a tentative changelog on OP, do check it out.
Also if you have any updates about Kitkat please don't hesitate to post here. Thanks.
They should release this as 4.3.x
I've heard they want to release the system from kernel so google can update the system, so they can support older phones that are not updated by the manufacturers.

They're already pushing updates faster than they ever have, their update process is pretty easy to follow if you put in the time and effort to research it a little. Unlike a lot of brands they put a large emphasis on optimisation which means that things run a lot smoother, note the limited number of bugs in the 4.3 software. Yet again another spam thread about where's my update, the long and short of it is you have to be patient and wait like the rest of us.
wright_ac is correct about this. Their updates has been more faster than the originally before. Even faster than optimization than the Samsung updates which tells you something already. I've been largely patient with the updates and with the newest update, I've been noting but impress with optimization and additional little UI changes which does have it quirks of wondering why they haven't done that in the first place haha. The only glimpse I have is to replace the vibration module which have been ordered. DIY here I come haha.

Since when did a petition ever force any person or any company to do anything?
All it is likely to do is telegraph the impatience of the self obsessed.
7 updates, including 2 upgrades to new versions of Android in less than a year aren't enough for you?
4.1.2
350 -> 434 -> 253 -> 307
Then -
4.2.2
423 -> 244 -> 67
Then -
4.3
569
How fast do you expect Sony to release updates if that isn't enough for you?
My previous device was a LG P990. It received 2 updates in the 2 years that I had it. Both were bug ridden messes that shouldn't have even been betas, never mind released.
So think yourself lucky with what you get from Sony.

Sony firmware is just as buggy and comes with as many issues as updates from other manufacturers so your optimization argument is just bull.
The truth is flagship for flagship, Sony is much later than its competitors as far as updates go.

You heard it here, Sony. Don't bother fixing any bugs or bother with any quality assurance. Get those updates out the door now!
Seriously, it's plain from your post history that you have no idea what it takes to prepare, test and release an update, especially an upgrade to a new version of Android. Just stop commenting altogether until you do. Or even better go and complain on Sony's support forum like you've been told to many times in the past.
This is a development forum, primarily for people to share work they have produced and for similarly interested people to share knowledge and to learn, not a place for people with no clue to vent about things that nobody here has any control over.

Right, let's look at it this way is there any major bug in the 4.3 Rom that is detrimental to performance/usability, not really. If you look at how smooth 4.3 runs compared to 4.2.2 you'll see what I mean, if it's "bull" as you so call it then move to another manufacturer like HTC or Samsung. If people looked at what went into it all and saw the amount of work it takes you'd all stop complaining less.
I think more than 50% of the people forget that SONY always more than 3 phones support with updates.
How kingvortex said, there is a lot of time and management needed to realese a update or upgrade.
Do not forget this guys! That is really hard work for SONY.

Do not forget, not every human buys every year a new phone. What I wanna say: HTC and Samsung does not give that update support as SONY. They update more or less the flagship and let the other phones waste after a year.
Also the most of people want a stable and smooth ROM. If SONY would release Android 4.4 after 1 week, I do not think that all would be stable.
And I prefer 1 good update than one which is not finished and I have to wait again for an update.
Here it doesn't matter if we are fanboys or not. That's fact yes, but what is better? 3 updates/phone in a year or 15 updates/phone in 2-3 years and be more or less up 2 date for long time?. If you don't like that, buy next time an other phone or unlock your bootloader and flash custom ROMs or buy a GPE.
Tommy-Geenexus said it, SONY give us also much of (new) features. They gave us the whole UI from the new Z1 with the 4.3 update.. That isn't of course. And also do not forget, SONY have to "change" all from "Android design" in to the "SONY design", that needs a lot of time.
I like the update policy because I know, every time when I read SONY will give us a new update, there will be a lot of new changes that can make me happy.
But however. Everyone should have their own opinion, they should just be realistic.

Looking at your post history, you seem to have a long history of buying Sony phones and coming here to whine about every little thing.
Yet you still keep on buying Sony phones.
Why is this exactly? You would have thought anyone that seems to dislike a manufacturers practices so much would have moved on by now.
You like to throw the word fanboy around a lot, when people are simply disagreeing with what you say. This just looks like you defending you irrational hatred of Sony. I mean, you don't post here for months at a time and only pop up when updates are released to whine and moan in every slightly related thread. Sell your phone and move on if it causes you to do that!

Stop talking trash. I prefer Sony way of updating, it takes time but SURELY get its job done. The changes in UI and optimization speaks the truth.
Mind you, currently I have samsung note 3, samsung update (ex: MK7) was trash. Battery drain was a huge let-down.

Android M and Sony Xperia Z3

So, Android M has been out for more than two hours now and so far there is not a single topic/thread asking when will we finally get it?
I mean, the dozing stuff is quite cool. Too bad we have (likely producing the exact same results) Stamina mode already.
But the automatic app data backup is quite amazing (http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...eynote-automatic-app-data-backup-and-restore/).
So, what do you guys think? Will we even get the update in the end? What are the features you would really like to have it for?
I do think we'll eventually get Android M on our Z3's but we'll probably be waiting around a year or so (roughly 6 months till most nexus devices get it then another 6 months or so while Sony fine tunes and tests). Let's not forget today's release is just a developer preview and a lot of new functions aren't even working yet.
I'm looking forward to having dark theme setting available, keyboard undo/redo shortcuts (sounds useful) and granular app permissions. Sd card also appears to be back in favour with the new adoption feature and battery historian v2 should give us much better stats
I reckon Sony will release Android M around April / May 2016.

Yes, the app data up to 25MB per app. Backed up to GDrive.
Myself, I would be pretty shocked if we get official M from Sony. We just barely went from KK to LP and I am not so happy with 5.0.2 and I want 5.1.x ASAP.
Man lol, I'm still enjoying Kit Kat for our Z3.. Don't even look forward to an update as the phone keeps chugging along fine. If M does come though, I wouldn't mind it.
Hopefully we get Android M. If not that would be quite disappointing. Also hope that they go with Macaroon for Android M name
I think it will be Marshmallow
But the screenshots are disappointing. Looks exactly like Lollipop.
I don't like the new way Google makes their Software. There are too much updates and changes so the modding and Developer Community will die slowly.
I like the new look and feel of Android L. And I will be very very happy if there would be Android M for the Z3.
Wasn't there the guarantee from Sony, that they would upgrade to two major releases?
Android M preview is now out for the Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z Ultra, E3, M2, T2 Ultra and T3: http://developer.sonymobile.com/kno...eveloper-preview-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/

Probably because M hasn't been out for more than two hours. M won't be out until late Fall (October/November). Just like the L developer preview came at I/O but L didn't go live until early November.
However, Google pushed more of the M dev preview source to AOSP than they did for L dev preview (there was no way anyone could even think about building AOSP for L-preview), but it is still fairly incomplete. So don't expect anything other than proof-of-concept hacks that aren't usable for a daily driver until sometime after October/November when M goes live officially. For example, the "Now On Tap" feature seems to be completely missing from AOSP in the M-preview branches.

It depends on how much more Google changes internally before M goes live in October/November. So far changes from L to make AOSP "m-preview" work weren't significant, but that's partly because a lot of the "M-preview" source is closer to L than to M as the source is incomplete.

90% certain they're using the same blobs as L. Haven't had time to look at the M build info yet, honestly not really planning on bothering with it vs. fixing remaining AOSP L issues.

[Not a surprise] We are getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow

According to the official Sony Mobile blog, we are indeed getting the next major release of Android:
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2015/10/06/sony-xperia-and-android-6-0-marshmallow/
Excited?
Fantastic news!
Been debating whether or not to splash out on a Z3 Tablet Compact and the fact that it's also getting an update might push me over.
Cheers for the link
How long is the wait will be make the difference between Sony and other manufacturers.

This time updates will come faster because sony is moving to close-to-stock firmware. Faster doesn't mean next month though Maybe December-January.

They probably don't want to repeat an as sloppy start as with LP, so I'd guess somewhere between Jan-Mar, but the fact that they're moving closer to Vanilla may affect that..
Personally, I hope that they will expand the theming capabilities of their current theme engine. It's already quite good but being able to theme more the official way (no rooting or modding just swapping the themes on the go) would be great.
You think that next update will be closer to Vanilla from Sony's Android™ Concept??
Kinda pity the Z1 users. Their device is more than capable to run Marshmallow. But we're not here to talk about them. I'm kinda not that excited about the Marshmallow update. I just want Sony to release a bugfree update in just one release. Is that really too hard to ask for?

Google can't do it and you ask sony for that ? Impossibru
I don't get why Sony have to change the home circle to a house and the phone icon. I hope they keep it stock and get rid of that coloured notification bar
Should arrive around Dec 2016 then once the Networks have pissed around with it!
Always.... Complains when we hesr good news from Sony ><"
Get some of you never tired of yourself [emoji14]
Well be happy that we get Android 6.0 ^^
Just somewhere and keep positive

Asus really doesn't know when the marshmallow update is coming.

Asus rep is saying on reddit that they failed to keep the promise https://www.reddit.com/r/zenfone2/comments/4pmnxe/zenfone_selfie_marshmallow/d4rvvsf

Khang gone to Nextbit. Good for him.
Alright. Enough waiting.
2day ago.. Asus france twitter said release this week. and today reddit asus employee say delay..
srsly asus?? so confuse...
yesterday I talked with Asus Support Spain, and they told me the OTA update is already deployed...
But I do not think so.... I guess that was the plan, but they had to abort it
I'd rather have an upgrade that works than a buggy one released on time. I don't know how you can put a date on development like that anyhow.

Wtf dude any other flagship/older flagships from any other company got marshmallow, i dont care why it's delayed but it's their fault for sure. "How can I put a date?!?" Simply, we had cm 13 for months without source, they had source and still failed, and from bet I don't see anything new besides new android version. Upgrading from one version to another stopped being a problem for OEMs long time ago, now they are just ******* whit us. No new interface, no new camera, nothing, I mean where did they spent all this month's?

They added the release notes for MM for ZE550KL and ZE551KL today on Zentalk.
I hope our ZE551ML will come soon.

Got it for my Galaxy S5 3 weeks ago. Also got it on my brothers LG G3 2 weeks ago. I don't mind waiting until it is tested and out of Beta. Running Beta MM on my ZE551 ML, so I am content right now. Patience is a virtue.

So, it's 1st July already and Q2 is officially over. No update anywhere to be seen and this shows that Asus has failed. How's that? Well, they promised that they will release it at the end of Q2 and they have to brake the promise. That shows that we can't trust anything in Asus anymore. Of course, they shouldn't have made that promise if they know that they would have needed more time for the development. But it looks like that Asus itself don't even know when they are going to release it. To all the fanboys/fangirls here, you can defend Asus as much as you want, but you need to realise that not everything is perfect with Asus' mobile section. And you should also accept critics even though I know you hate to read or see it. You are the consumer and you have your rights too. Don't let Asus play with you around and tell them that you can not accept this kind of behaviour. Fanboy-ish behaviour is annoying and not helpful at all. You cannot ignore mistakes forever and pretend that nothing has happened.
We should remind ourselves that Asus has called the ZF2 a flagship device in 2015, and not just some midrange device that are for beginners. Now, look, the official software as of today is 5.0. Pretty much just one version above Android KitKat which is see by the Android community as an outdated operating system. Ok, Asus did some security patches in between which is a fine thing, but why would they refuse to update to let's say 5.1.1 at least, which is Android Lollipops major bugfix by Google. So, basically, Asus tried to fix the problems itself instead of taking over the patch from Google. The ZF2 is an Android device, and not only Asus should tinker around with the software, pretending the OS as only their work. Now, many older flagships has reached ar least 5.1.1 for sure (exept maybe carrier controlled phones, but that's another problem) and the Zenfone 2 is still nowhere near more up-to-date software. Perhaps Asus is just too busy playing around with their own user interface and launcher, not caring enough about the base Android version. Even more surprising is that it looks like that a MM update will bring not much new. The only positive thing I could see is that that they start debloating the firmware. But, as some kind of some bad joke, they throw in some kind of Dr. Whatever bull**** anti virus app which an Android operating system doesn't need at all.
Here we are, the beta has rolled out, the official release has been delayed and people here are still being too optimistic, or more likely, being delusional thinking that everything is OK and normal. A company can only improve their strategy when they see their own mistakes. If we don't tell them that something isn't right, they will just go on doing the same mistakes like now. Remember, a company needs consumers, that means our words ate very important and can have some effect on things.
Asus, you're going into the wrong direction.

OK, my problem is not really that you are complaining. It's that you are complaining HERE. This is a developers forum not an Asus forum. If you want to tell them your grievances go to asus talk and do it there. Doing it here just makes you sound like a whiner, because there's nothing XDA or any of us can do about it.

Well, that's strange if you say that. Because this thread has also nothing much to do with development in its sense. Nobody can do much about the delay. And I didn't expect help from anybody, why do you think so? Aren't we discussing here?

Feel like just wastingtime around here and zentalk for officialMM from asus.
Asus missed the Q2 deadline for the ZE55xML's. Not the end of the world. Verizon customers wait way longer for updates if they even get any.
My backup phone, a ZE551KL, got MM this morning. Nothing special other than it setting a crap load of stuff back to default settings.
What I expect from ASUs in MM is
Better Battery Life and Power management...
Better Ram management...
Nothing more

Yes but they also give a timeline, if i multi millionaire company can't keep it up i don't think they are even worth it. Also OEM =/= verizon
Wow, this is the second time that the manufacturer of my phone promises an update, than backs out of their promise.
First it was with Samsung Note 2 and the Lollipop update, when Samsung teased us for over six months with hints and suggestions that Note 2 will be updated to L, then I got fed up with them when instead of the L update, they released another 4.4.2 version, which made the N2 slow to the point of borderline unusable, and told that N2 isn't going to be updated to L (although there are still some poor souls in Samsung N2 section, that are searching for hints about the update on various Samsung twitter accounts), and switched to Zenfone 2.
Now it's the same story all over again with ASUS. I think that the only way to get M for me is to wait until my warranty's over, root my phone, and continue my Search For The Incredible with a custom AOSP rom.
