I don't think there will be KLP, the next version of Android starts with L.

Yeah, I edited my reply after that. But this release won't be Android 5, which was what I was looking forward to.

Waiting for the changelog / list of new features!

I'm still trying to find a workaround to ditch my iphone for a good android...

Any1 knows if it has some kind of new UI?
The stock Jelly Bean UI is getting a bit old.

I was referring to the UI, specifically if there would be a radically new UI from holo. Obviously there will be under the hood updates and whatnot, but I don't think holo will change.

Ya but ICS to JB wasn't visually very different. We'll see though. It could be.

nothing much

Guys, I have posted a tentative changelog on OP, do check it out.
Also if you have any updates about Kitkat please don't hesitate to post here. Thanks.

They should release this as 4.3.x

I've heard they want to release the system from kernel so google can update the system, so they can support older phones that are not updated by the manufacturers.

Too soon to talk about Android 5.0 we just get 4.0 in our Atrix...Enjoy ICS please
The article says "However, since Android 4.0 did not perform as well as expected, several of Google's downstream partners are turning conservative about Android 5.0"
What's wrong with android 4.0. According to me this is an awesome improvement from previous versions.

Finally someone from Costa Rica! jajajaj I have the same phone! Well, Motorola is gonna update the Atrix by Q3 of this year.... Right now I'm on CM9 so far, I love it! Hopefully will be finished soon, however I have it as my daily ROM!
On topic: about Jelly Bean, i think is gonna be something like a change in the UI, nothing that big as jump from GB to ICS... who knows! let's see what google has for us!
My understanding is Jelly bean is not really going to be for phones much like how Honey comb was not for phones. instead it will be more of a tablet only OS.
I'm sorry, but I fail to understand why we need to begin a new thread to discuss tye hypothetical announcement of the next version of android.

I personally think it's too early, not so much for a new update but for a 5.0. Though for all we know it might not be 5.0, just rumors saying that. My bet's on 4.1. Not quite sure if it might change current 4.0 upgrade plans. Just my two cents.
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure Google is already working on Android 6.0.

I don't think this is correct as MY understanding is that ICS was to unite the OS of both tablets and phones much like IOS does with ipads/iphones. To create yet another new OS strictly for tablets would defeat the purpose of ICS as I understand it.
There is also the idea that it's primarily for netbooks/notebooks.
This thread shouldn't be filed under the Atrix lounge. Navigate to the Android fora if you want to talk JB.

I just got the Google nexus with the BRAND NEW jelly bean, which makes this post a little silly and indulgent... but when 5.0 does come out, whether it be Key Lime Pie or whatever, we should be in line to get that wouldn't you think?

no. nexus devices always get updates last :silly:
just kidding, nexus devices always get updates first. sometimes even before(rooted devices) if its available in aosp.
I'm not going to indulge because 4.1 just launched.
Any N7 owner doesn't care about 5.0 at the moment because it's almost guaranteed on newer Nexus devices including the N7 and no features have been announced.
No information = no excitement. More people will care when we hear something.

iphone 5 with ios 6
It will be v5 just because they don't want to get too far adrift in the "my number is bigger than yours" stakes. Unless apple double down on the dumb and try the 'new iphone' route...
My guess, besides more integration with multiple android devices, is an enhanced launcher. Lot's more that could be done, and it gives even more clear blue water between Android and the old fashioned iphone app drawer.
Sort of funny we are already worrying about this, its breaking news these days when some devices are getting ICS!

Same it annoyed me when people were calling JB 5.0. There wasn't that much of a change from ICS.
The version number should only go up if the os is massively different from the previous version. Eg, gingerbread/honeycomb - ice cream sandwich.
Meh, sometimes it's just about grabbing some attention with carefully crafted version numbers. Like when my favorite Linux distro (Slackware) released ver. 13.37
lol at this thread.
Seriously can't begin to imagine what 5.0 would be like. Loving the improvements in JB at the moment.

Android 4.2 is on its way

Android 4.2 "Key Lime Pie" is already in testphase
The new Android version will not be 5.0, it will be 4.2. This version is to be tested, according to server logs already.
The associated device is, according to the sources already leaked. Androidandme believed that it is a variant of the Nexus LG Optimus G.
On the market, the Android 4.2 mobile phone would come before November.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/android-4-2-key-lime-pie-features-most-wanted
This isn't news, it's been mentioned by a few people now.
Edit: considering jb hasn't rolled out worldwide, I can only imagine when we will get this on our phones.

TBH i'm getting a bit fed up with this.
Google need to get everyone on the platform 4.1 and then once the 2.3.4 starts to disappear from users moving to newer devices on 4.1 then introduce 4.2 or 5.0 later
IF this is the case i'll be using whatever ROM is available and I wont be busting a gut to move up as it's becoming most tiresome.
I can't understand everyone moaning about not having Jellybean on the SGS3's. I've been running Jellybean on mine for ages.
After all your on xda forums, try taking control of your life's and your smartphones and flash JB yourselves instead on moaning that you have't got it.
It's a 10 minute job that anyone can do. Simple.
End of rant.

It's not Google's fault cause the OEMS take months to apply theyre custom skins, or that the carriers delay the updates for no apparent reason. They are the ones which have to accelerate this process!
Google needs to innovate, to polish things, to make Android truly the best and most complete mobile operating system. (now that everyone has a smartphone and/or a tablet and the competition is higher than ever)
//If I remember correctly at the Conference where JB was released Google said that they will share the new code with the OEMs months before the announcement of a new version of Android so that they could be prepared with the updates.
From experience
4.2 will not be developed by Uncle Sammy for sgs3 rather it will need to be ported. And by the time google have a stable release of 4.2, Sammy will just about fine tweaked JB in around 4-6 months time.
Edit
Maybe 2-3 months if we are lucky

It's not always the case. I read an article recently about the previous models getting jelly bean, like the tab 7 plus and 7.7. So they got upgraded twice from hc to jb. So it's possible we might be able to taste key lime pie but we'll have to wait again as always. Or just flash like crazy.

Why does this even bother you? So you can tell your ios friends that 67% are Now on Jellybean? Who the f cares? The people who give a crap about the latest updates know how to use google and can get then easily.
If you want to sit on stock and stew then fine, but stop crying when there's loads of alternatives.
If it's version 4.2 then it'll look like JB and ICS. Although I hate the AOSP look I'll try it.

You suggest that Google should stop improving upon Android and developing newer versions with innovative new features that keeps Android cutting edge and good competition, and instead focus on coding for SAMSUNG, LG HTC and so forth?
What a fantastic idea! I can hardly believe they haven't thought about this.
Im just curious how different it is from JB. I was thinking of flashing and rooting..but this time ima roll stock. I did the rooting cyanogenmod 7 thing with my old GT5830 (galaxy ace). But then again if the new Nexus has KLP..knowing me..ima wait til i see it..then flash it to this phone..Man XDA is a lifesaver

This is kind of a dream. Google Android is like a base for a soup. Samsung, HTC, etc.. are adding their own recipee to the mix and this is what is ruining the whole thing. Pure Google Nexus is much more beautiful and smooth and trouble free than the ugly Samsung UI.

Android 4.2.2 Certified

Hi folks,
Some of you may have noticed that Android 4.2.2 JellyBean has been certified through PTCRB for our device (SGP321).
More on XperiaBlog, but can't be too long now. http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/06/2...e-certified-for-xperia-tablet-z-10-3-a-0-407/
Will be interesting to see if the UI changes on the Z are also on the Tablet Z.
Based on how the Xperia Z and ZL were updated, I doubt that Sony will change the UI.
But we can. Once the system dump leaks.
Edit: I thought you talking about the Z Ultra. My bad.
Thats great news, im placing my bets on sony making a come back with quality devices, software, and support

I doubt they well. It's one of the good things they have going on
heard the interface has become much more smoother on 422 but not many changes in UI etc. no multi user support either.
Please no phablet UI Sony. It's one of the things i hated about my Nexus 7 and why i put PA on it straight away.
I tried CM10.1 on my Z Tab yesterday and couldn't stand the phablet ui. It's just so unintuitive and wastes space.
I hope they'll release or at least "leak" it soon. The current firmware is quite stable and fast, but the slightly laggy UI and the mediaserver bug (has nothing to do with Sony, well known problem within 4.1.2) need to be ironed out.
Xperia Tablet Z to received 4.2.2 from early August. So could be as early as next week:

Don't celebrate too early.
On Xperia Z the 4.2.2 update is buggy...
It's well possible that it could be better to remain on 4.1.2 until some dev releases a usable 4.2.2 custom ROM with the device-specific features intact.

If they go with Vanilla Android, I'm happy. The current Sony UI is alright, very light, but there things here and there that aren't very well thought. Spacing between some icons, alignment, etc. I'd rather see Sony add their features without changing the UI.

The idea is a lighter, closer to stock Android look I guess. If the screen shots shown so far are accurate, Sony will start having a UI similar to a Nexus phone with Sony features on top of it.
Hopefully we'll receive more information starting from tomorrow. I've signed up the first day this news came up, just crossing my fingers now. Seems like Sony wants to take a GPE approach on our devices. Would be really nice. Hopefully this means faster development and pushing out codes for aosp which also means that we are getting closer to fix the fish eye bug that all aosp ROMs and cm ROMs has for our devices. Either way that's just me wishing for the beat of our future.

Either way that's just me wishing for the beat of our future.

Isn't the fish-eye bug a problem because Sony didn't release the camera sources?

Yes but what I meant was that hopefully Sony will start pushing out sources faster when and if they continue to do a lighter ui such as this test version.

Oh, I see. Hopefully they do. I wonder if the new UI will be ready for Android M or so. Let us know how it is if you get the chance to use the beta.
the icons need to be smaller, in my opinion. So big....haha.
Always using Nova Launcher.

Hopefully we'll receive more information starting from tomorrow. I've signed up the first day this news came up, just crossing my fingers now.
