[Q] Will the OnePlus 2 be as popular as the OnePlus One among developers? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will the OnePlus 2 be as popular as the OnePlus One among developers?
It doesn't come with CM anymore, does that mean it will need more effort to make custom ROMs and kernels run on it?
Thanks in advance for your input .

I am not sure but i am optimistic .cyanogenmod will be present in op2 also.
We should consider also the new huawei nexus. Oneplus 2 probably will have unlockable bootloader, so it will be developers friendly.
Also i dont think that developers will prefer zuk z1.

Yes i think it will

The Oneplus got much of its popularity due to it's low cost and the fact that rooting didn't affect warranty.
So far we don't know anything solid, except it will be under $450 (i'm guessing about €400).
I can only assume that they will keep their stance on rooting as most RMAs were hardware based.
However with them really pushing Oxygen OS, who really know, maybe they will pull the rooted warrant to try to encourage users to stick with their closed source OS...
If so I don't think it will be as popular, more expensive, less trustworthy processor, not really much of a better deal for developers...

Being a phone that is unlocked, developer friendly, and a company that promotes and supports development and flashing without voiding the warranty, the OP will e the phone to have for a developer just as the OPO is. YES, there will be mad development in my opinion.

Looking at today's awful leaks, my interest for OP2 has vanished.
I think that OnePlus will void your warranty for OP2 if you unlock the bootloader.
It'll have good Developer support too.
If not here, then on oneplus forums.
The only problem will be that you can't downgrade your Android version if you ran into range of issues which is possible in OPO.
I can't comment about it's popularity, everything depends on Price!
Also, many new devices are developed and launched every month and the OnePlus claims it to be a "2016 Flagship Killer"
So I doubt about this statement this time. I'm sure that after OP2 is launched, many new competitors for this device will emerge out.

I know, I was just saying that it looks like a great phone. No bezels more screen and look good in there hands... No phones ever look as good as the fakes they bring out....

My experience in XDA tells that custom ROM support for DUAL SIM phones are on the lower side. Going by that trend and since OP2 is rumored to be a DUAL sim, I think the developer support may be less. But I would love to see my presumptions proven wrong
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's got all the features of successful dev-friendly Androids: top quality hardware, lower price than similar locked devices, Qualcomm SoC, easy to root. It's the next thing to a Nexus. Safe assumption is that devs will love it.

Hey as a DEV can you know the answer for my question on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/help/custom-roms-root-fingerprint-sensor-t3168267
Thanks

The only reservation I have is that Oxygen isn't exactly open source, which could make things rather difficult.

prety much ^^ THIS
If they don't provide the proper fingerprint driver code, it could be difficult to implement.
Also this thing haves so much includes (on other devices drivers), making one working driver from scratch (using driver from another phone) can (and will be) a big headache
cheers

[Q] Find 5 questions before purchase

Hello you all
mods, feel free to move our delete my post if you feel it's in the wrong section
I am planning to buy the find 5, but I want to be sure this is the right buy for me. I know the performance is awesome and the screen is one of the best or there, so +1 for those, but now for development support. I see there it's a fresh new cm10.1 so that seems ok but are you developers going to keep this phone for a long time? The price tag is pretty hefty for me and I want to keep the phone for a few years. Any change for long term development here? With android 5, and up support? Fast kernels?
Thank you so much

ask Oppo, but they might not guarantee it, or go back on their word
eg: motorola promises android update, then reneges on it
developers do porting on their free time, if you want to guarantee something (like having Android version x), do it yourself........ bootloader is unlocked - you can install anything you want on it

Yup. So far, I see myself as far less likely to wind up in the "OMFG I HATE THIS DEVICE AND I AM SICK OF DEALING WITH IT" category like all of the Exynos4 CM maintainers did.
That said, if I get spread too thin, the device might receive less attention in the future.
A lot depends more on Qualcomm than on Oppo.

And to be clear, I wasnt trying to demand support, just asking whether it was there or not

Oppo has been great about getting the find it developers hand. They have given out almost ten free devices. So there will be Roms, not as much as a nexus but a few. Again in the long term support won't be as good as a nexus but it uses a qualcom chip so support is easy, not nexus easy but second best. I say it will be supported as long as the nexus four dependent on binary issues.

Get FRANSISCO KERNEL same Nexus 4

Hi every one. I had bought an OPPO Find 5. After 1 month use, I see Oppo stock kernel is very very bad. And to less developer and user support developing the F5 Rom & Kernel too. Especial the KERNEL. Althought the Find5 have the best design. But stock rom & kernel from OPPO is very bad. The battery so bad, the performance not optimized yet, not fully control the hardware of this.
I have ever used The Fransisco kernel for LG Optimus one and Nexus 4, feel its very good.
I want to open new topic to aks every one to contact and donate Fransisco an OPPO FIND 5 to improve overall F5 quality.
Many thaks for support.

Agreed... And I am in!!! I think Francisco makes the best kernels!!! Let's get this going!!!!

Guys .. Just go to the official oppo forums and get in touch with the mods there.. They are very much developer friendly and have sent a lot of devs devices.. Who have been interested.. So they will for sure send Francisco a device if he wants to develop!

2 things, one, this shouldn't be in original development, and 2, sadly @franciscofranco has made it very clear he does not plan on making kernels for non-nexus phones. It's POSSIBLE that with oppo's level of openness he could change his mind, but don't try to convince him, and be prepared for him to say no.

I think that's more what led him to not want to do it anymore, he found it too much of a hassle especially with how many experienced devs there already were, the effort required for how much his kernels could improve stock was just not worth it and he decided to stick to Nexus, BUT, like I said, maybe the Oppo Find 5 isn't a hassle, like, at all, but like I said don't pressure him and don't expect him to say yes

Oh I'm sure he'd LOVE that! While we're at it lets spam each of his threads incessantly until he complies, and subsequently releases a kernel explicitly written to brick only the people who spammed him's phones
We should see if Oppo will help us like they did for Faux.

The lack of development saddens me

Why? Is it because the phone is unpopular with the dev community, or because it's hard to build for this phone? There isn't even any UNofficial CyanogenMod being made.
This is why I love the Nexus line of devices.. so much development even before the product gets released. The lack of Moto X development is making me iffy about purchasing one
I had actually just assumed this would have had a ton of ROMs by now until I saw your thread pop up. I have to say visiting the dev section I'm shocked. It definitely crosses an X off my list as I was leaning G2 or One anyway.

I feel ya. Got roped into joining Verizon and got the most Nexus like modern phone available (the X). At least the stock ROM is great. Once things slow down at my day job I'll see what I can do to help the Moto X Dev community. Seems that with Verizon I'll need to root and unlock just to get the normal updates other carriers get (without waiting sometime between 6 months and hell freezing over)

I find it funny how people "demand" that there be development. I'd imagine that the phone is hard and somewhat unknown to work on with the X8 chipset....Time. all good things come with time. even if they dont all this phone needs is root and xposed.

Yea I figure as long as we have root, the stock ROM should be good enough with Motorola's tweaks.
I've read a thread similar to this on all of my phones from the OG galaxy S (captivate). I would say give it some time, heck the dev edition only came out a few weeks ago.
The fact that its impossible to unlock the bootloader on the major carriers is another bottleneck as well. If/when theres a bootloader unlock, the development will come.
Are roms even necessary though? I've always been a terrible crack flasher, but this rom with xposed and gravity box it's pretty much cyanogen. I'm super happy with stock for the first time ever

The Moto X uses a Qualcomm S4 Pro SoC. It was never anything special. Motorola just markets the additional processors as a whole to make the concept easier to understand. Development would be similar to any other new phone.
Porting popular ROMs while retaining the functionality of Active Notifications and Touchless Control may/may not be whole different ball game though.
The X is impressive for a standard carrier device, but nothing will beat a Nexus. I would say The X is, by far, the closest to stock you'll find (again, outside a nexus).
The Moto bloat is slipped in almost unnoticeably and the junk apps are easy to deal with (I actually find some of the 'bloat' well done, such as moto assist - though I still prefer tasker). Happiest off the shelf device I've had since the ogDroid, but hoping to get an N5 for real Dev stuff.

Now that bump has gone is it worth getting a nexus 6?

Cuz bump has gone and the devs aren't signing boot images I'm guessing custom ROMs will fall on this device and I am a heavy custom romer if that's a word ahahah always changing ROMs to try new ones, I bought this not knowing there would be a boot unlocked coming and wondering if the nexus 6 would be better for custom ROMs ? I know this is a g3 specific section and don't want a fight just wondering and need some help thanks
I've been wondering about the future of ROM's myself since this whole thing went down. However, there still is "Open Bump", but I'd actually feel terrible using it. Seems like it would just be a slap in the face to Team CodeFire. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens from now on. I'm happy that I just got Lollipop on my vs985, but worried about future development :/

At somepoint, if yoi xan afford it, then go for it .
My opinion
G3 ia good device but i believe snapdragon 801 wasnt meant for 2k display..805 will handle it better..yes there is bump(thanks to respected dev :')), but still it all depends on out rom devs who give their precious time amd develop roms for us.. G3 will have less than nexus6 thats for sure..nexus 6 will enjoy official support from all custom rom teams like cm/PA, while we quite arent yet..
So changing to nexus can be good(if you dont mind nexus UI, coz am using cm12 and am loving it ),. You will loose all g3 goodness though..that awesome camera with lasee focus, compact bazel screen body and all.. But it shouldnt bother you if you arent big time photographer and as you mentioned you are big time CUSTOM ROAMER(that should br a word, hmm..sounds cool ..we gotta ask oxford to ask it and make it official, hahaha)
Nexus 6 might sound all new and cool and almost same price of g3 but it might have its own limitations too.
No optimus ui
No laser focus
Too big pahblet screen
Okay-ish camera many says
No extra features as will have stock android only
Pros-
Nexus so latest google updates
Snapdragon 805+ 2k screen is actually good combination, thats the reason we also have an 805 version of g3 in korea..(still its not good on benchmarks, dont know why)
Screen is amoled
Official custom rom teams support
Blah blah
So choose your poison..
If i was at your place, i would have been confused too, i would have tried the device in hand once(its performace and handeling of 2k display), and then go for it.
I dont think its design is issur for you, coz you wouldnt have asked it if you would have hated moto x type design of nexus 6(as many do hate)
Good luck mate

Bump is not dead by any means and the end-users will likely not notice any degradation in ROM development. The Open Bump option is still available and many devs will use this. Team Codefire may also privately Bump builds for certain devs. It boils down to the fact that several developers threw hissy fits over Open Bump. I understand the reason they are mad about another dev making their exploit public, but the amount of drama surrounding this is abit ridiculous and there are arguments for both sides. This is a topic for another day, just know that Bump is not dead and development for the G3 will continue, don't worry. Bump has already been implemented into the nightly builds of CM12 so it's not going anywhere. Just never take an OTA update now if you want to keep TWRP.
Thread needs to be closed bump still works just different way of doing it is all roms will still be here

I'm not a developer, but from a price standpoint, there is no doubt ... The G3 with 32GB / 3GB ram cost me 1/2 the price of the Nexus 6. I believe for the money, the G3 is a fantastic device. Now, I know most people in the US will buy it on contract and won't have to put up 700 dollars (or 700 euros in my case) for a phone. But I believe techwise the N6 is a great phone, but I don't think it's worth the 700 euros (circa 1000 USD) while I got the G3 for almost half the price, and I had gone with the 16gb / 2gb ram version it would have been less than half.
If money isn't an issue, go for the N6. It will see development for years to come. But I really like the camera on the G3 and the size. 6 inches is really big for a phone in my usage.
Who told you the lie that Bump is gone? I'm still bumping my kernel here with a .py script =)

Will the A7 ever see Customized ROMs?

Although a great phone there are other flagship phones like the Pixel, V20 that are taking priority. I'm sure the Devs are jumping onto the pixel and the 6p is still going. Will this phone ever see any customized ROM? Thoughts....
I dont think so.. maybe far away in future xD
Never. It's impossible.
Yeah, that's the feeling I'm getting too. The adoption rate is way too low. It's sad really; it's such a great phone.
Zte seems to have screwed the pooch, we're at almost 6 months of marketing jargon claiming that unlocked bootloader, hardway overlays, and stock images are coming but the phones relevancy is steadily diminishing Still, it's cheap.
Zte have terribly failed and honestly not getting a zte again

It's nothing like that at all. They are applying their changes to cm source and sending it back. This way we ensure everything is the same as stock. This is probably the first time an OEM has ever done something like this.

He's been putting in major work and is in contact with ZTE, the initial port of CM always takes time, there's a reason you don't ask for ETAs.
Now that we have the B20 factory image it will be much easier to move forward on stock ROM tweaks (Debloat, Deodex) as we now have an official fail-safe / rollback.

Hey I'm in the market, I got Verizon's v20 and I don't like it so I'm taking it back probably Monday. I'm looking around at different options because I want outstanding audio does the axon A7 have incredible sound? anything you can tell me about to be great.
What carrier are you using it on?
Is there a way to root it and tot back to original "out of box" state?
Thanks for taking the time.
Sincerely,
DjRobBlaze
Honestly, if ZTE themselves are having trouble getting the audio working, then it's probably not happening. Might have to sell soon, and hop on the OnePlus 3(T?). Sucks, because the hardware on this phone blows the OP3 out of the water on many fronts.
Funny reading. Yes there will be support. Guess it's the waiting game from now on.
more people should learn to code instead of wasting their time *****ing about development.

That analogy would work if doctors were working for free and hospitals didn't require any money to operate.

In principle, we should see customised ROMs. Bootloader is unlocked and we have full images.
Regrettably, there are very few developers working on this device.
There is only one dev working on CM.
To my knowledge, no developers are working on "customising" stock ROMs: Deodex, debloat, tweak k
I really like the hardware on this phone. Screen, DAC, battery life and front speakers are great. Camera is not elite but more than adequate.
I will wait a while longer. If ROM development stays dead, I will have to move on. One thing is certain, I am never again buying a phone without an established development community. My decision to rely on ZTE promises was not prudent.

I really hope so, but as a company Cyanogen are in a terrible mess, and ZTE have shown themselves incapable of organising a piss-up in a brewery...

i think excactly the same
I don't mind not having a Custom ROM if the stock one is decent. Unfortunately MiFavor is not 100% to my liking + they (almost) ignore the EU community (except for ZTE Germany).
In the case of CM I think they are handling it okay. Official BL unlock is definitely coming for the US model and they are currently implementing their audio solution to CM, after that there should be a couple of Roms that can cherry pick CM stuff and build their own features on it.
It's not ZTE's fault for having no Custom Rom programmers among their customers
*hoping there will be a vast Rom landscape in 2017*!
Just bought an Anox 7 a few days ago with a new contract since my Xiaomi (and I'll never recommend a xiaomi device to anyone anymore) is f*cked.
As soon as the phone has arrived, I'll start to brew a resurrection remix.
See you guys soon
