[APP][ROOT] ColorModeChanger for Samsung's device ROMs - Android Software Development

Hello.
I developed a new paid App for all Samsung devices that suffer of unnatural display colors when using Unofficial ROMs.
!!!! PLEASE don't ask ME for support in this thread (but I think you can discuss between you) because it's not allowed by the forum rules !!!!
Description:
This App is intended to change Color Mode in all Samsung compatible devices which have an UNNATURAL and intense display color when using an Unofficial ROM.
Usually all "AMOLED" displays, and its evolution called "SuperAMOLED", suffers of over saturated colors resulting in an unnatural colors.
Almost every Unofficial ROMs is currently using default colors mode, so the over saturated colors affects most of devices which are using these ROMs.
With this App you can change Color Mode using two Presets ("Natural Color" and "Film Mode") or, if a supported Kernel is in use, you can manually set all color channels saturation values and change/swap BGR (Blue-Green-Red) parts for each subpixel of screen.
Advanced Settings allows you to manually choose Colors Tone for each BGR Channel or swapping colors (i.e.: swap Green with Blue or any other combination)
(I don't know if it will work on non-Samsung device....we should test this)
Requirements:
- Android 4.0 or newer
- ROOT Privilegies
- (optional but recommended) a compatible Kernel
11 July 2015: Beta test phase started
05 Feb 2016: Closed Beta phase and released to Google PlayStore (I can't post the link due to its paid nature)

nice app. What would I need to do to make kernel compatible with your app?

I think an App have to be Kernel compatible and not vice-versa.
I searched through your thread but I don't know your kernel, so I suppose my App is not compatible with it.
You can PM me and give me few infos about "how to set screen parameters" and where to change values, in this way I can change the App according to these infos.

Hey,
i've installed the APP but it says "license not valid"
I have only one Google Account on my phone and it's the same i used for the beta test.

Did you subscribe as Beta Tester using the appropriate Link you can find in the Community+?

Yes I did

I would like to test it but I've got no google+ account and don't ever wanna have one...

I was able to try Color Mode Changer v1.1.4 on a Samsung TabS 10.5" tablet but received an force closed pop-up when starting the app a second time within the 30 second limit.
Here are the device details:
SM-T800
Samsung stock v5.0.2 B0E3 Canada firmware (stock bootloader, boot, recovery, system)
SuperSU 2.49
Rooted using a method which does not trip the KNOX counter that is documented on XDA.
KNOX apps frozen (disabled) using Titanium Backup along with much of the Samsung bloat ware.
System level apps of note:
Busybox Pro v1.232
GMD Gestures Control v8.1.0
Viper4Android v2.3.4.0
Universal init.d
Launcher: Nova Launcher v4.0.2
The logcat link below includes a java abort when ColorModeChanger is first initiated and the subsequent UI start errors when a force close pop-up is displayed.
Any help would be appreciated or a request for further information that you may require.

Thanks for the new version v1.1.5, this time I was able to grant supersu permissions and this time UI came up properly. Unfortunately with the stock kernel I cannot seem to enable custom profiles or any of the extended feature other than to enable start at boot. I'm not overly surprised.
I do have three selections available in Preview lists (default, Natural color and Film mode) but I think that they already came standard with the stock kernel. It seems the inability to check "Enable custom personalization" blocks me from trying any of the other features as they are all greyed out.
This is tablet specific but the UI images are significantly stretch when my 10.5" screen is in landscape mode, making them look distorted. Not a big deal if the only thing that mattered was the image colors but something to be aware of none the less.
Thanks for the update. I'd be willing to try further versions assuming they could enhance the stock kernel. I need to stay on the stock kernel as changing the kernel would trip KNOX and loose my warranty. My Tablet is too new to do that yet.
I will monitor this forum to see how this app progresses.
One suggestion I'd make is to clearly post how ROM developers can include functionality which allows your utility to be fully integrate. So far I've read this thread and the Google+ posts and did not see anything specific. You may attract more ROM devs if they know how hard or easy that extra work would be. The instructions may just be to PM/email you as I've seen in the Viper4Android XDA forum where the code is not open source.

Thx for your report, very exhaustive
Yes the Stock Kernel doesn't allow to enable Custom settings but only 3 Modes (1 is near the same as Default, so I chooses to display only "NaturalColors" and "FilmMode" ) I cannot do much more on a Stock Kernel, however does the 2 Modes working even on the Stock one?

Just did a test with and without Samsung's display "Adaptive" setting on and then off. Your app seems to override Samsung's display setting as toggling Adaptive mode made no difference. There does appear to be some interaction between changing display settings via Samsung then starting your app but at times it is so subtle I'm having trouble pinning down the combination that you could attempt.
I did see slight changes to the color saturation of the app's pictures when switching between the three Preset list profiles.
Default: No change unless I was previously set to Natural color
Natural Color: the least saturation
Film mode: Almost indistinguishable from default I felt that there was a little more saturation than with Natural Color but less than Default. I may have assumed there was no change if I had not noticed the "Natural color" change.
I hope that helps you.

Thank you.
I'm suppose you're using a ROM based on the Stock one in which you have "Settings --> Display --> Mode" setting. I never tested on Stock ROMs because the App is thought to work on an Unofficial ROM, so every strange behaviour is unpredictable and unwanted.

New 1.1.6 version is avaiable for all testers.

I don't know for sure.
Beta Testing phase has this purpose to test the App in many different environments and devices.
You can try it.

If you're just subscribed as Beta Tester (with the link) please wait a bit or kill Play Store and Play Service processed and clear their Cache before try again.
PlayStore saves data and licenses in a cache and it is renewed after X time (I don't know exactly when). You can force it to renew the cache to speed-up the process.
Unfortunately I cannot help so much in this because it's all demanded to Google and its Service/Store.

My First impressions with XXLPH

As I always say, for noobs, but not kids
A HUGE thanks to sammobiles for leaking these ROM's, whatever some gobs say don't matter, they have been doing splendid job for the last three months, from the very first ICS leak. All I know is, no sammobile, no ICS leak, you don't need to be developer for this, but just common sense.
Never said this, but should've, a lot earlier.
• How did I install? Normal Odin (Desktop) way. PDA, Modem and CSC, skipped the App boot. It will definitely Wipe your device. In previous occasions I was flashing with Mobile Odin but the Modem and CSC always got messed up at the end.
Q- How to restore Nandroid backup taken with a kernel but not CF?
A-
Simple. Flash that kernel (Siyah for example) in Recovery (Hope you're already rooted with CF LPH kernel) >> DO NOT reboot system, but reboot in recovery >> You'll have Siyah recovery now, simply Advanced restore Data, wait till it restores >> Again, DO NOT reboot device >> Power it off >> Go to Download Mode and connect the device with Odin in PC >> Flash the CF LPH kernel >> DONE.

Well maybe I did it the hard way, cause I am a noob, you know a better method? Please do that and ignore whatever I've said.
• Chainfire root for LPH:
http://download.chainfire.eu/147/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPH-v5.2-CWM5.zip
• Mod JazzK battery mod from kitchen:
http://ifile.it/lp9sdqt
Previous leak was XXLPB, impressions were at,
• http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477672&highlight=my+first+impressions
• As usual good phone calls, in call volume is loud enough both in earpiece and speaker. NR is present.
• Vibration intensity is same strong as before.
• Same incoming call UI. Answer/Reject sliders don't work! I hate it.
• 480x800 wallpapers are working properly on both homescreen and lockscreen.
• Market is fine. No problem in downloading.
• WiFi, 3G/H+, Bluetooth all working. WiFi signal remains with the upload/download icons.
• FM Radio works.
• Network mode is present. Strong signal in 2G as it should.
• Swype is same version, Beta 3.26.92. The Swyping color is changed to Orange, lol. The default keyboard is QWERTY now, not QWERTZ.
• GPS lock is fine both in GMaps and GPS Status.

• Camera and Video Recording is working as it always did.
• 1080P FLV video played damn smoothly with Stock player. Good.
• Same goes for HD YouTube videos.
• Same stock email app UI, it's nice.
• Browser (Stock) is buttery smooth and a pleasure. Flash plug-in works.
• The 3D kinda feel in TW launcher remains. But still no loop support for homescreen and app drawer, weird.
• Annoying ICS lock screen remains
• I have to say that the scrolling effect is completely different than previous leaks, the elasticity is present but it has been decreased hugely which makes the scrolling much faster. You don't have to scroll five, six times anymore to go down to the end of a big web page.
Not same as GB, but close.
• Face Unlock works . I am not sure but I think there is a new option added called 'Automatically Lock' if you select Face unlock or Pattern as lock method.
• Deep sleep works absolutely fine. On stock kernel atm.
• MHL/HDMI works, with Audio. Thanks to Spy0rs for informing.
• Connection with my desktop worked at first try.
• Call logs don't have compact view. Weird. As soon as you call a different number the previous dialed number shows as a different entry and doesn't count in in the same number group. Bad for a heavy callers like me.
Smart input does work however (or whatever it is called).
• Chrome Beta browser freezes after opening.
***Major CONS I've found so far and should be fixed***
► In Stock browser, Calender and some apps only the default font is applicable. Any other font other than the default won't take effect.
► While editing something in the stock browser cursor selection is weird. Hence it's almost impossible to edit any article/paragraph.
► Vibration and sound should work together without the help any third party app.
► Call logs don't categorise numbers in to compact mode. A big drawback imo.
► While refreshing email in stock email app it doesn't show any sort of notification or pop up saying refreshing or anything, so it's hard to understand if the emails are properly refreshing or not. It was there in GB, should be included here too.
► Answer/Reject incoming call icons won't slide, really? That's disgusting.

••• So far so good, touch screen responsiveness is at par with LPB, I didn't notice any decreased response like sammobile mentioned. Scrolling as I said is totally different from previous leaks. Looking all good till now. Better than LPB, but marginally. •••
*** Definitely a daily usable ROM ***
•• Video ••
As I always request please come and post your feedback on this ROM if you are already flashed and using it, both Cons and Pros. Please comment if you have downloaded form sammobile, others downloaded from any other place please don't comment.
Thank you.
Regards.

@ithehappy Check PM.
Good summary.
If only it kept the stock ICS look. I know this horse has been beaten to hell and back, but all that effort/time/money to make something that, in my opinion, looks like crap.
Funny enough LPB is probably the most stable ROM I've used since the official GB ROMs from Samsung...
And before someone says theme, no, it's just not the same as CM9 and you're sure to find it's like lipstick on a pig at some point (incoming call, unlock screen, etc)
Anyway, I'll probably flash it, lol. I love the ICS apps and features enough to overlook the appearance.
Ty @ithehappy this is really much appreciated and very fast two top man....
I agree, your reviews help a lot. I flash every leak but it helps to see issues that I may not notice right away and it gives me an idea of what to expect.

My Swype keyboard is QWERTY, but still QWERTZ Samsung keyboard here (I had previously LPB ROM).
What is the correct CSC file to get the QWERTY keyboard? Y tried the *#272*IMEI# "trick", but I only get Sweden config choice
What about camera shutter speed?

In first place thanks for your review, it's great.
Details like wallpapers and scrolling made me happy about Trebuchet well i don't really like me so much, i prefer Nova for the moment.
Mmm the issue with the call logs, i can live with that

there is no app to overclock, stock kernel doesn't support oc, you have to wait for kernel sources and then custom kernel.
Thanks for doing this service OP, I was not going to make a move on this until I saw this thread, you claim it is a daily use ROM, so I am going to flash based on that, you better be right else I'll be looking for you, haha, just kidding
I have a question though, a no wipe version has been posted, but I have never seen you mention if you do a no wipe upgrade from a Gingerbread ROM or if you factory reset after the upgrade or anything like that, can you please clarify this for me???

Bro, honestly if that shouldn't be the reason why you don't try out this awesome rom. The devs did an amazing job with the coding, and the Per App Layout is unreal. You would not be showing support for me or for Madflapjack, you would be showing support for the great guys that made it
this rom is amazing, smooth as hell.
there is one thing i am wondering though. is there anyway to make wallpapers portrait instead of landscape?
thank to all of you, now im tryng to fix camera thats giving me a rare bug, but im working with saranhai to get it working.
This ROM is beyond awesome, period. Thanks again mad flap for bring it to the captivate. I'm having some troubles making some apps run the way I like it but it's because I'm not familiar with pad and pal. I'm on devils kernel and everything is working right. Even the theme I was using on CM 9. Well, the phone is a nexus s according to xda app, but who can blame it? It is a tablet too sometimes
I'm happy and cured from my flashing nightlies addiction.

Also a bunch of NFC stuff still in ROM as well as the lights.aries.so not there instead the one from the Nexus is there, also can you remove the videos folder in system/media would reduce the file size

How to install CM10.2
Root and install using ONLY CWM recovery (available here: [RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini LTE (GT-I9195))
Copy all the files you downloaded for CM10.2 (From http://get.cm/?device=serranoltexx) into your SD card along with the Google Applications (Optional, recommended - get the latest one for CM10.2.x)
Boot into CWM (Vol Up + Home just as the phone is booting up, navigate using Vol btns, HOME to select, POWER to back)
Make a backup of your NANDroid (Optional - Do this if you wish to return to your previous ROM)
Select "wipe data/factory reset" and press Yes
Select wipe cache partition" and press Yes
Flash cm-10.2-2013xxxx-XXX-serranoltexx.zip file FIRST (or RC or stable)
Then flash gapps (Optional, recommended)
Notes
When upgrading between CM versions, you still need to flash the gapps module after upgrading as /system is wiped.
Notes about updating to latest stock FW before flashing custom ROMs
Screenshot is Vol-Down + Home in CM
The ROM comes with a Superuser app. You don't need to install another one.
When installing themes which appear to be improperly compiled, apply the default system theme and reboot and try again.
CM doesn't come with a IR Remote app.

4.3 should have this new feature called app ops? Can't find it in the settings. Also reporting that both back amd front camera work, but theres some issue with the hdr option. Enabling hdr caused camera to not connect, worked after reboot.

App ops is different than privacy guard.
Edit: I mean these settings:
www.androidpolice.com/2013/07/25/ap...ager-control-permissions-for-individual-apps/
Had them on my zte blade 3 4.3rom, it was nice to be able to disable certain app behaviors.

Hi. I think cm10.2 should have the display settings from cm10.1.3 such as screen temperature and mode etc that 2 really nice. And please add a hot - plugging feature to the kernel, saves loads of battery!

Hi,
yeah i agree, the only thing missing for me is the screen calibration feature! would be awesome if you could include that arco!
Thanks
// just an addition. i am half way through the day and i had to observe some massive battery drain issues. usually by this time i would have 75% battery left, but since cm10.2 its already down to 52%. better battery stats doesnt give me much, seems like the rom is just.. consuming a lot more energy.
i'll monitor the stats further but i wanted to ask, does anybody else face this problem?

No battery drain and no other problems with cm10.2
The IR also works very well.
So far, so good..
Well done Sir Arco!! THX
Reporting that FM radio also works with Spirit FM
Headphones must be plugged in as it functions as an antenna.
Settings in Spirit FM:
BAND - World 200khz (This might not be the same for you)
AUDIO - METHOD MODE (DigitalXL/ONE/S)
UI - RDS: (ON)
AF - AF MODE: RDS+Region
DEBUG - FM CHIP: (QC V4L HTC) & Motorola FW Load: (HCI)
The rest is default.
Not sure whether it's supposed to be so but tiles/toggles in notification drawer are not perfectly aligned as it used be in CM 10.1.X, so if you decide to have 6 toggles/tiles you end up seeing 5 full toggles/tiles and one half of the sixth one
Attached please find examples of 6 and 5 toggles - in both situation it does not look good.

I find this very annoying too, but I think it's a general cm10.2 "problem". I would want it to scale up or down to fit either 5 or 6 toggles, not 5.5.

I think you're supposed to swype on it, like you do on Samsung stock rom.
Hi,
Concerning battery drain, a reboot and optimizing the apps seems to have fixed the problem!
Back to awesome battery life
Just the screen calibration missing now.
Thanks

Yes of course but in cm10.1 with the older icons they align perfectly as 6 toggles showing fully, but in cm10.2 with the new icons they don't align right, as shown in the screenshots.
With older icons:
- So if you set it to 5, you see 5...
- Set it to 6+, it shows 5.5 which also indicates to the user that they can swype to find more toggles?
- If you set it to 6+ and it only showed 5, you wouldn't know you could swype to find the extra toggles so therefore, the user may think that it just doesn't work.
- Scaling would look horrible imo, imagine if you had 10? all scaled to fit across the screen?
I think it's fine the way it is?

Wrong. You see 5 and an empty space for the 0,5 toggle which is not there (see print screen), since you have chosen to have 5 toggles. Your arguments do not hold ground since the user knows how many toggles he/she has enabled and leaving half toggle at the end of 5 toggles just looks incomplete no matter what follows .
Lets say that if someone with your reasoning would apply this same toggle layout to how photo gallery layout looks, it would mean that when viewing a picture in full screen we would see one full picture and half of the next picture .
The point I am making is that notification toggles should have option to have certain amount of toggles whose layout is perfect with no stretching, no half-ass toggles and so on. I don't need 10 toggles to be squeezed into one line, I am fine with 5, but please let it be aligned :fingers-crossed:.
Error on change user info.
When I try to change and click on picture to change, it open and close.

So you removed some tiles for your screenshots? By default, I get the attached standard tile layout.
Fair enough though.... Hope they sort it out for you...
I like it left aligned as it shows there is more toggles to the right. Whether 5, 5.5 or 6, you still have to swype to get to the 6th+ tile.
Anyway, good luck!

Please give us a review when you can mate !
So i tested it. It Seems to be based on CM11s, because it has seems to have all its features (hardware/softwarebuttons toggle, the phone setup screen, theme engine with hexo theme, double tap to wake etc.)
Everything is translated except 4 (5 with keyboard) new apps (propably because its just themed cm11)
It comes pre-rooted with super user in settings.
The theme chooser isnt accessible normaly but i got a notification from a theme update which linked to the theme chooser
Features:
- nice design
- toggleable app drawer (standard disabled so you have only homescreens like in miui but shortcuts are removable and then not accessible with disabled drawer)
- All pop-ups appear on the bottom of the screen
- Changed about phone screen
- Shades app (really just like the Brightness toggle in quick settings)
- File manager with ftp and root support (but i couldnt get do /data)
- pre installed terminal emulator
- Now Browser as standard browser
There are 5 new Apps:
- Some sort of Hub app. I couldnt figure out what it does
- iFlytek Input ( a keyboard, its pretty crappy if you ask me)
- App China (probably the app store because there are no gapps)
- A music player (auto album cover download and theme support, changable accent color)
Screenshots:
http://imgur.com/a/aJb5F
Here are /system/app and /system/priv-app dump. Interesting are probably the launcher, the theme and the shades app
Dev-Host (attachment wasnt working)
In conclusion this is pretty much just a pre-themed cm11s with some small nice additions and disabled theme manager
Also been running this and have switched back to IUNI as I'm experiencing some bugs which make fundamental operation a problem and frustration.
No doubt they'll be fixed over time but right now, for me, this is not ready as a daily driver. Not close.
1. Some text is not visible. That is, it's near white on a white background. Theme needs some ATD.
2. As above when setting a pattern lock, there's no way to what you're set pattern is - it's a stab in the dark (white on white again). Found this out when setting up a VPN which requires a pass code or pattern, which leads me to....
3. VPN was not working. No problems on other ROMs or devices so I know the provider is OK. Maybe a CM issue.
4. Rotation lock is messed up. Lock it and it only works in some apps. File manager ignores it and goes into landscape mode which the makes the launcher go landscape too but then doesn't rotate back even if you disable rotation lock and the phone itself. To fix it, I have to go into something that obeys rotation lock (settings) and back out again. Or sleep/wake. Very tedious.
5. AppChina (?) FCs on boot. Easy to delete with RE I suppose but odd on first clean boot.
This was after only a few hours but: a) I need a VPN; b) I was tired with the messed up orientation issues.
Maybe give it another try in a month or two after a bit more polish.

firmware will have a prefix (-GO-) from this day, so as not to be confused with our foreign colleagues.

Changes:

1) Return of the access point
I would rather see just one Pixel Experience, but unfortunatly LuizH007's (@SanicM2) developement is not as advanced as Waiser's (I'm not talking about capability, I mean bugs in the ROM). Of course, maybe LuizH007 doesn't have the same time to dedicate anymore.
Actually, there are three Pixel Experience ROMs, but Waiser's and LuizH007's ROMs have the same goal. So, it would be great to see both working together instead of this separated developments.
By the way, Waiser's version is the less buggy one.
Furthermore, thank you @hussein1 for opening a new thread about Pixel Experience GO.

I am a professional web developer if you want to build an official go rom website feel free to contact me brother...love from INDIA..
so, any thoughts, comments, pro and cons?
I'm using this build for a long time day by day, not the "original", but I think it's better. The updates come faster, always fixing any small issue. And overall feels a bit faster than the other PE release. And I don't need a lot of customisation like in the PE Extended or other roms, so I'm happy with this build and stay with this
But I don't want to say which version you are using, test it and choose.
OK, I downloaded the rom in OP post, which seem to NOT be the last version.
9/11/18 version in the op.
As soon as I installed the rom, in first boot(no problems by the way, 4 minutes to boot)
a ''new update available'' pops up, suggesting to download.
Another 1.05 Gb to download and start over
WHY?

In your thread, people talk about:
1. Instable autofocus (or refocus - it seems to had been solved reinstalling the GCam);
2. VoLTE not working;
3. Charging LED not working;
4. Automatic brightness always high;
5. Cast Screen not working;
6. Settings app crashes after opening IMEI menu;
7. It's no possible to set SIM 2 in mobile data;
8. Saturated colorson some screens;
9. Only one flashlight working;
10. Wi-fi turns off after DOZE activation.
I haven't installed your ROM because of this complainments, afterall, all of this works great in Waiser's build. Nonetheless, I apreciate your work too.

Waiser's build update daily, weekly. Fix bug very fast. When I used your build, I had waited one month to fix led notification. I dont like that. By the way, thanks for your work.
Am I the only one experiencing very slow fingerprint unlock? It takes a lot for my device to wake from sleep, actually also double tap to wake is slow :/
Also Pixel live wallpapers are very laggy
