Galaxy NX (EK-GN120) Root - Galaxy Camera General

I am not the creator of this file!
I am creating this thread since root for this device is amazingly hard to find!
Instructions:
1. Download the Samsung drivers from below.
2. Enable USB Debugging.
3. Enter download mode on your NX by holding down both the power button and shutter button at the same time.
4. Make sure you have Odin Samsung edition 3.07 or higher.
5. Download the Samsung Galaxy Camera (NX Version) EK-GN120 version 4.2.2) from below.
6. Plug-in your camera to your computer and load the .tar file you just downloaded with Odin under the PDA section.
7. Hit start, it should finish in under 5 seconds.
Congratulations your Galaxy NX is now rooted!
Extras:
1. Download the SuperSU update from below and flash it using the default android recovery menu!

Is there now a Custom Rom for the NX?!

What is the point of rooting this cam?

Endless possibilitys 4K Video or record uncompressed or Raw Video mount Harddisks or XLR Audio Interfaces via USB or Whatever when you search for a Indie Filmcamera with Endless Possibilitys thats the best Device....

How can we flash the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip?
The Bootloader only accepts signed updates. Is there a possibility to unlock the bootloader on this device or can we flash it otherwise?

Great stuff! Any news about?
EDIT:
Worked like a charm!
Installed SuperSU from the play store, no issues!

Hi Guys,
I just come across this thread so i thought i make an account on XDA to post.
My Nx camera in my cupboard collecting dust i probably only used it once. I hope with this root i can do more with it.
Is there anyway someone could upload avideo on how to root this device? Is it at all possible once rooted, that it can record in 4k?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

How can we flash the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip

Any news about custom recovery? On this video http://www.xda-developers.com/unbox...ng-the-ultimate-android-powered-camera-setup/ the reviewer installs TWRP, but I can't find the Galaxy NX on their website anymore..

Just reviving this thread, I see people have stated they have the ability to boot into recovery mode on the EK-GN120 Galaxy Camera NX but I haven't found an option to do such.. The only mode I can get into is the one where I do the custom reflash of the firmware.. "Download mode on the NX by holding down both the power button and shutter" How do I enter the recovery mode by chance? Greatly appreciate.d Thanks, Justin

How were you able to get into Recovery Mode on your EK-GN120 Galaxy NX Camera? I can't seem to find the procedure.. Only know the one to get into Download Mode which is power + Shutter.. I have a camera that I need to reset. Thanks, Justin

Updating Samsung Galaxy NX to the Modern Firmware
Hey I found someone from Lineage confirming that they support the LOS on this device, I just need help trying to update the camera to Android pie or at least Android 5. Lineage OS would also be great to have if I can. Because the camera only runs Android 4.2.2 and a lot of apps cannot be ran unless Android 5.0 in order to make this deal to make camera experience.
I need help trying to either A. Updated to at least Android 5.0 or B. Make it Lineage OS supported.
If we can do this the possibilities would be endless

If anyone wonders what the actual twrp device name was u0lte. I still cannot find the image file.

So there is someone making Lineage OS or you are confused as to Lineage OS being an app? cant upgrade this device unless someone builds a rom for it or a Lineage OS rom that would probably wont support the camera fully.

Hello everyone,
I have a hybrid tablet is the nextbook flexx 11. I installed the Phoenix OS successfully, but when booting to the OS, the screen is vertical display of the tablet rather than horizontally when the keyboard dock (both Remix OS It is very difficult to do). I tried the auto-rotate screen but failed, so still. I think it does not pick up the sensor. Please let me ask you how to fix this. Any help or comment received a sincere thanks from me.

Hi, anyone with webwiew problems ? it just keep crashing...with xdalabs and some others apps as well. i did update webwiew but nothing changed...
Edit: mybad, I did switch multiprocessor webview in developers tab, turning back solved
Read up on libhoudini. I think Nougat x86 has only partial support for it. This might be the cause of problems.
Phoenix 2 will most likely stay alpha/beta for a long time.
Hey Vioner, any word on if the Nexus 7 image will be updated to 2.0? or will it be left on 1.1? Absolutely love Phoenix as an Android ROM, the desktop interface is exactly what I was looking for in a tablet ROM. It's too bad that Canonical dropped Unity 8 and Ubuntu Touch (I understand UBports is to be picking it up and switching it to wayland) because other than Phoenix, UT was the only other ROM that have the experience I've been looking for, so it will be sad to see Phoenix drop support (though completely understood)
@ShadowEO
I've just asked Phoenix OS officials about this. We'll see what they'll say.
One thing is for sure. They base their ROMs on AOSP and AFAIK most recent branch for Nexus 7 is Marshmallow.
The reason why they released a Phoenix OS 2.0 preview build for Nexus 9 is because it has official Nougat support.
I also asked them if they plan to do any updates for Nexus 7. I'll let you know.
@ShadowEO
I've the response. Phoenix team will release new versions only for Nexus 9. Older devices support is "dead". I'm sorry

Z17 Mini Stock ROM

I just bought a Z17 mini 569H, but it doesn't have a "updater" app nor can I find a "search for update" on the menu! Why? Is it a shopROM?
Hi, You can try to download the rom from nubia.com/de or nubia.com/in, and place it in sdcard.
Power off the device, then enter to recovery mode (hold on power on and volume up) --> choose update package --> choose from sd card.
It is work with me, now i'm using EUCommon_V2.01
I will try it, do you have any solution for using the menu button as recent apps?

Hi, the most recent stock ROM (v2.06) don't come with Google services. I've checked it yesterday. But you can install Google stuff (gapps) with custom recovery (e.g. TWRP) easily if you are interested.
Any reason you don't just update system with the built-in updater?

If new stock update is out for your NX569H - like you mentioned - then after updating you'll have all the apps as before.
Where did you found stock ROMs for 6GB version?
Why do you want to rename that?

I googled arround, and on a german forum, some guys said that http://www.nubia.com/in/support.php?a=phone&pid=54
That one would work, eventho it says its for the 569J, it would run on 569H aswell, some guy said that he had that running on his 569H with Google play and services!
About the rename, they said that to use the update feature built into the phone, easyest way was to rename the downloaded file to update.zip, and go into settings and update phone, and the phone would reccognize the file and install the update.
Also an english verson here : https://www.getdroidtips.com/zte-nubia-z17-stock-firmware/
However, its not an xda post, so I dont trust it ? therefor i was hoping that someone had tried it here, so I could confirm that it works or not ?

Well it is strange indeed that no stock ROMs were published for 6GB versions but i'm not 100% sure that an easy rename is enough for a device with different hardware setup - though i'm not a professor in this topic -.
Additionally as i know there is a stock v1.30 rom out surely for 6GB version and there is no such version number for 4GB version.
I would say that stick to official roms and updates though there is no 6GB version which I'm aware of. But most importantly if you are not certain, try to avoid bricking your beautiful device, it's just too nice to put away. :fingers-crossed:
PS: if you very enthusiastic about modding, try e.g. Mokee's rom. It is quite sophisticated i think with android 7. (but create a system backup with stock i suggest)
Hi my friend i,ve installed lineage 14 but i don't Like it ,i want flash original ROM, i can download it from Nubia.en and flash it using twrp?thank you
Has the "Global-ROM" the same code base as the CN?
http://ui.nubia.cn/rom/detail/38
vs. e.g.
https://www.nubia.com/de/support.php?a=phone&pid=31
Global has V2.01/2.06/2.09/2.10
CN has ....V2.04/2.09/2.13/2.18
or in other words, can we assume that we will also get a version >V2.18 in next time?

Xposed Framework

Does anyone know if Xposed Framework is working on S8 i found this article:
https://www.gizdev.com/install-xposed-framework-on-android-nougat/
and theres the option on Magisk to install it
Xposed wasn't available for Nougat until today (revo89 announced it here). Don't **** with it yet, the top "known issue" for Samsung devices is bootloops, as seen in the announcement thread, and me saying it's available doesn't mean it's fixed (I really don't know if it is or not -- anyone know?)
Yeah it works.
Things work better on aosp based roms rather than touchwiz based roms

I use xposed from PurifyOS Team
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-android-nougat-sdk-25-arm64-t3639221
with AMBASADII ROM 1.5 and have no problems with stability, power drain oder lags.
Ok, i use only 4 modules and a module for remap the volume keys (I dont know which excatly) generate a boot loop.
I have the SM-G950F model.
TMobile s8 Snapdragon and this version doesn't reset everything in gravitybox N like purify version.
stupid question, I have a stock Samsung Galaxy S8 Rooted Sprint. Will Xposed work on my device? If so where do i download the files to install it in? I don't know which zip to download and I don't want to bootloop. I have asked for days but not a single person has replied or helped me
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:27 PM ----------
I have a successfully rooted Samsung Galaxy S8 Stock for Sprint. Please note that this is NOT S8+ BUT simple S8.
1) WIll Xposed Work on my Device?
2) Where and which files do I download to make it work?
3) Do i need to Deodex my System? I worked so hard to get root and I dont want to do that
4) can someone please answer me?
I'm on T-Mobile S8 (bare, not a plus nor an active), Xposed does work correctly. Check my previous post in this thread for two links. You should find your way to the APK. Just install that guy, nothing fancy needed beyond root, which you said you have.
I will note that not much is available for Xposed on Nougat Samsung devices. Maybe some Adblocks and a couple minor things, but I'll be upgrading to Oreo as soon as I can figure out how to get rooted Oreo on my S8.

If your RR is 6.0+ you can go directly to TWRP (Make sure you have an updated bumped-version too) and flash rom.
So, the right step are:
1. Download rom zip from lineage os website
2. Go to TWRP
3. Format system, data, cache and dalvik
4. Flash rom zip
5. Reboot
If you need play store and google apps you must flash this zip too https://opengapps.org/?api=7.1&variant=nano
If you need root you need to flash this zip too https://download.lineageos.org/extras (14.1 su ARM)
If you have a different version, going back to stock and starting from there is a better idea.:good:

With 6.0 i mean Android Marshmellow or newer.
And about going back to stop you need to download the firmware and flash it with KDZ Updater.
There are a lot of tutorial online, and on xda too, well detailed with all necessary steps.
Good luck

Remember to choose the right firmware
V10 is jellybean
V20 is kitkat
V30 is lollipop
For most of custom rom you need V30, so... Dont falsh previous firmware else you'll get black screen.
Check language and 16/32 storage too.

Thank you so much!
Great, i've done everything, and i'm pretty happy now, just have a few other things to ask i hope you're willing to answer.
First, is there a way i can improve reception, i feel sometimes my phone has some kind of problem because one second it catches the carrier, a second later it goes totally no service, it's very weird, maybe a different modem to flash could help that?
And the second thing is, is there a way besides xposed, to customize the navigation bar and few other things like the lock screen shortcuts?

Best root process?

I’m going to wait a little bit before doing my root. I had a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 recently die on me. I tried replacing the charging port and the battery but the thing was still dead. So I ordered an S5e. It should be arriving tomorrow. I’m just curious what everyone is doing with it now. I did a quick search and it looks like root is available now. But the instructions I found are outdated saying a recovery method (TWRP) wasn’t available but there was a news announcement saying it now was. So I’m kind of lost.
Like I said, I want to play around with it unmodded for a while before I root it. Just looking for a clear cut “best” way to go about doing it and seeing what the most recommended options are.
On my s10 I remember having TWRP as the recovery and Cyanogen was the OS.
Thanks!

I spent the whole weekend in my new s5e wifi edition, the truth as follows:
There are 4 ROMs for this tablet:
Original (shipped with Samsung ROM, Android 9) - Everything works fine, antutu v8 183k, but full of crapware from Samsung, suspicious apps and services, don't waste your time doing root on this ROM
LineageOS 16 (Android 9) - So far the best ROM at this moment, antutu v8 183k too, stable and HDMI issues too, but there is a workaround, (look my other HDMI problem thread)
LineageOS 17 (Android 10) - Trebuchet launcher crashing constantly, HDMI issues so I didn't test antutu because felt too unstable, so I gave up too
LuisROM - antutu v8 170k and HDMI issues too, so I gave up
I installed all the ROMs using TWRP, the root just works with magisk, the official LOS16 root su zip doesn't work. Once you have the TWRP installed you can just install the magisk .zip the same way you do with the ROMs, then the magisk manager will appear installed automatically where you can check the root status. Good luck!

Why not root the original rom and delete as much crapware as possible after root? That was my plan when my tab S5e will arrive.
You speak about TWRP but in this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/how-to/galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t720-root-t3947806 and that is the only decent one I could find, they explain that TWRP does not work on the Tab S5e because of changes Samsung made. Are yu saying that TWRP works?

Those posts are a reference, dont follow their procedures hoping that will work as they described... yes I AM using TWRP it works, get from their website "twrp-3.3.1-4-gts4lvwifi.img.tar" and "vbmeta.tar" then via ODIN, flash them, one each time, rebooting after the process. Once you have the TWRP installed, you can play around with any ROM and do the root as I explained before. I don't trust in a ROM full of crapware, its my point of view, cleaning based on tests you can never be sure if there is nothing left stealing your data or forcing updates or whatever samsung decides... so LOS is the way, clean, open-source, nothing to hide.

Once you have the TWRP installed, you can play around with any ROM and do the root as I explained before. I don't trust in a ROM full of crapware, its my point of view, cleaning based on tests you can never be sure if there is nothing left stealing your data or forcing updates or whatever samsung decides... so LOS is the way, clean, open-source, nothing to hide.

that is amazing news....I would love to try this out with my device and downloaded the files you suggested. I also found "PGP Signature vbmeta.tar.asc", do I need that too?
I have to admit that I have not much experiencing rooting...I only installed TWRP on my Samsung J5 phone years ago and after that I loaded another rom (I think lineage) on it. a stripped down version that offered more intern memory and that is still running smooth on my phone today.
So would it be possible to give me some more advice? Is it correct that I have to connect the S5e with Odin by booting it in download mode? And can you tell me where I have to load the files in Odin? Is it in the AP section?
And are there options I have to enable in Odin? (I heard something about a reboot option you have to enable or disable).
I hope you can help me with those questions. What model of tab are you using btw? Is it a 720 ?
Thanx in advance,
Jan

I found this guide, if you can confirm you did it this way, I will give it a try:

This part is up to you, In later tries I did all at once, but be careful and flash one image per time until you feel confident
