Do you have the drivers for the phone installed?

Umm, yes. But thats not the problem. It's just... My computer cant see my phone. Mtp connection works just fine, but it seems like ADB isnt enabled, but it clearly is. So it acts like its turned off (no Android Phone Device in dev manager)
I hope this clears up

Sounds just as kirito9 said. You are missing the Lg connection drivers.
Try installing this http://www.mediafire.com/download/g...leDriver_S50MAN311AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.11.3.exe

Pc will not recognize Phone!

I have windows 7 64 bit and it worked fine until out of nowhere my pc stopped recognizing my phone as a storage drive. i have tried multiple roms, and it makes no difference. The option to mount in the pull down curtain menu is no longer there, am i the only one who has had this problem?
If it turns out to be defective, is there any way to return the phone to stock, like with the ruu, that does not require a usb connection?

Tried, thats a no-go. any other ideas?
Forgot to note that the htc sync option DOES appear in the pull down menu when usb is connected.

I am also having a problem with Windows 7. I deleted and reinstalled HTC sync and drivers and got "no driver found" for ADB. While it was installing it said it was unable to find a Windows Vista folder so that could be part of the problem
I dont think thats my problem, my computer doesnt see adb on the device manager list.. i have tried on a windows xp pc and it doesnt see my phone either, or ask me to install anything. so there is no way to RUU without usb?
uninstall any programs that may use adb usb... easy tether, pdanet, htc sync, the cdma workshop and htc diag drivers if you were trying to get msl using your own method, go to device manager and remove android usb devices, and then plug your phone back in. Also use a task killer to ensure none of the above programs are running on your phone, in case one got corrupted. if still no go let me know... I am running win 7 64 bit so can help compare, etc. if need be.
Well part of the problem is that android usb devices does not even show up in the device manager. should i still try to uninstall adb from my pc?
okay, under programs and features in control panel, uninstall htc driver and htc sync, restart computer and redownload and install htc sync from their website, and try that.
I tried those steps, still didnt work.
after you reinstall sync and plug in your phone, what happens? does the driver installer pop up and install? what does it say?
does android usb devices show up under device manager? are you sure it's not your cable (just cause it charges and makes a sound on the comp like it's connecting doesn't mean the data lines are fully intact and working). If need be, I found a cable for a dollar at the dollar store. It's not the exact same end but the usb mini a
it fits and works fine
nothing pops up when i plug in. and also nothing appears in device manager. htc sync does actually show up on my phone when i plug in though.
i dont think its the cable.. it looks ok on the outside.

Interesting, interesting. In device manager, you stated that ADB doesn't show up? Well, does anything pertaining to Android show up at all?
Nothing pertaining to android at all. I hope im not screwed, because then i would have paid 7 bucks a month extra for insurance for no reason.

That's exactly how I felt when I got it working. Well i'm glad it worked for you. Hopefully it works for the OP.
i followed thos steps to a T, and still no luck. That guide failed me at the step when you select your phone from devices and printers; my phone is not there at all. I also tried manually installing the drivers, and it says that method of install is not supported.
try this.... go to windows/system32/drivers folder. Find adroidusb.sys, back up this file and then delete, and try plugging in your phone and seeing if it reinstalls drivers then

[Q] Usb debuging not working on cm7.1?

Sorry for post this twice but there's few people see my previous thread.
When I connect my nook color to pc, nook shows that usb debuging is conected now, but on my pc neither the hardware manager shows something like android device nor other app detect this.
And when I manually unselect the usb debuging and reselect,it just shift to the usb mass storage page.I dont know why.
I am running the newest cm7.1 RC1
Sorry for my bad English, Please help!!Thanks!!
Mine seems to be doing the same thing

Are you sliding up the notification bar and tapping on the USB notification? Once you do that, it allows you to enable USB mode and your nook color drives will show up in windows. When finished, be sure to safely eject your device in windows before turning off USB mode to properly exit USB debugging. If you don't, USB debugging wont turn off and you may end up crashing.
Nevermind.

Thank you for your response but the issue is that adb debug bridge is not enabling even though it indicates its enabled in notification bar, and is enabled in development settings.

You might just try and updated nightly, as I'm not having that issue. I think I'm running 107, but there are several newer version out now.
same issue
Hi I do have the same issue I have a Samsung Captivate.

Why does my Nexus only show up on my PC once out of like every 5 times I plug it in?

I have the correct drivers on my PC and its not a big deal because I'm only plugging it in to charge it..but when the little 'windows explorer' pops up..about once out of every 5 or 10 times do I actually see the phone and can browse directories and copy stuff.
the rest of the time the explorer window is 'blank' when it pops up.
like i said..it doesnt really bother me because i haven't had a reason to need it showing up reliably on my desktop..just curious if this has happened to anyone else.
FYI, the phone screen always says "connected as a media device" regardless of whether its showing up on my Win 7 PC desktop or not.
Disable USB Debugging in the Developer Options when you want to browse the phone. With it enabled I sometimes cannot browse either on my PC.

Yep, disabling it makes MTP work every time, with it enabled it gets iffy.
doesnt happen to me and i have mtp and usb debugging on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942 use these drivers instead, they work flawlessly.

I think my "issue" is on my XP laptop. On Win7 desktop (using the same drivers from that link) I have no problems with mtp and usb debugging on. Good catch!
cool tip!!! i'll install those drivers.
PS do they work with ALL android devices? my kids have 2 tmobile 'mytouch' android phones i just bought off ebay and the drivers i've used are pretty picky as well.
I also had an issue with USB Debugging on with no functioning MTP on Windows XP. I solved it and documented it with a post over in the N7 forums (reading the posts clued me in):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35667806&postcount=23
Windows 7 has native support for MTP so it most likely will never see these issues -- although there are a few exceptions.

When you pull down from the top, can you select that area where it says 'connected as installer' ? If so, do it, and it should open a sub-menu where you can select MTP mounting option. It will automatically buffer to it.
By chance, are you rooted with Xposed and X Tether?

No option to change to file transfer when connected to PC

Good Morning All,
I had a quick question. When I connect my pixel Xl to my Windows 10 pc I get the drop down android system option to change from USB charging to file transfer.
On my Essential when I connect it makes the noise where windows notices it but on my phone I don't have the option to change from charging to file transfer.
I'm sure it is something I am missing but would appreciate any input. I believe it is a driver issue as my other windows 10 laptop recognizes it and I am able to change to the transfer files option.
I checked device manager and it is not showing up under portable devices.
Thanks
On my HTC 10, you can make the change manually by going to Settings>>More(last option under Wireless and networks)>>USB connection

Thanks I have the option to change it to MTP via developer options and it works fine where I get the notification on my other PC. I'm thinking somehow my one laptops driver may be bad as it recognizes my Pixel but not the essential.

Yeah, I was thinking there was a way in developer options as well, but I don't have my cable with me so it wasn't showing up.
I have an older laptop that makes the "recognition noise/ring" when I plug in my phone, but it takes like 2-3 minutes before the screen pops up asking what I want to do with it. Don't know if that could be your issue, but you may try just letting it sit for a few before unplugging it and see if that changes anything.
Or, it could be just like you say, bad driver.

Thanks I'm going to try and reinstall the generic driver and see what happens. Strange it works on one laptop but not the other. Gotta love Windows.

It is usbc and only have one.
I plug my pixel in on the same port and it shows up in portable devices. With the essential plugged in my computer makes the noise that it is connected but it does not show up any where in device manager.
I uninstalled the driver with my pixel plugged in and re plugged in the essential still no go. I plugged in the essential and the driver was installed. It is strange as it shows up under my other windows 10 pc just fine.
I had the same problem and I eventually got it to work by using a USB A to C cord, not my usbc port on my laptop.
Had the same issue last night, turns out for me my computer recognized the phone and used the adb interface driver, had to go into device manager, Uninstall the driver associated with my essential phone, and then replug the phone in for it to be accessible via mtp

I also noticed that it didn't work in a USB 2.0 port for me, only in a 3.0 port. And my front facing 3.0 port on my desktop that I use for flash drives didn't work either, so not sure if there is some long cable signal integrity issue there, but USB 3.0 port was the only way I got it recognized via my computer
I did use this USB Device Viewer from Microsoft and found that it is showing up with this error.
Though not sure how I'm supposed to resolve it. https://imgur.com/w1tz12s
It is at least showing that it is connected.
Maybe I'm not understanding but on mine when I plug into PC the pull down menu shows charging and then I tap on that and get a menu that has file transfer and 3 others and I select file transfer. Have you tried that?
