I got 2 via eBay UK seller, both rooted Chinese models with 4gb and 32gb storage. Both were prerooted with ww rom. Since then I have updated to latest ww rom and and am happy with the phone overall but the battery life sucks.
Fine on standby, last night lost 6% in 7 hours but using it this morning it's dropped 10% in an hour. I'm convinced it's the screen that's the power hog and am less sure whether the 5.1 lollipop update (when or if it appears) will sort it.
For the price I can live with it. Need dual sim and this works fine with 3 sim for 4g or 3g in socket 1 and an ee sim in slot 2. Have a 64bgb sd card in the memory slot.
Not getting any ota updates but easy enough to download to r the phone memory and then reboot and update.
I have managed to scratch the screen on mine (wife's is pristine) even though it's been in a case, so not too sure about the gorilla glass...
Overall happy with both handsets, i hope to get at least a year out of a phone normally and don't see why this won't last well. Bearing in mind an s6 is over twice as expensive I can live with few issues I have.
I just make sure I carry a USB power bank in my pocket then I can last a day off charge.
Other bonus is that once root was removed I can use it for SkyGo which I wasn't expecting to work.

I bought mine from eglobal central £181 the 32gb version with 4gb of ram for the price it's a steal. I think the battery drain might be fixed in the next update anyway I am having difficulty getting a smart or s view case in the UK I will appreciate any suggestions.

Got mine from eBay eglobal got the 1.8ghz 4gb ram 32gb one it says ww firmware on the box got 2 updates so far and works on Vodafone 4g love the fone should maybe got the 2.3ghz but its still fast

Hi, when ordering from eglobal central or similar suppliers, did you get a proof of purchase with IMEI number on invoice, so you get mobile phone insurances.
Thanks mike.

I ran some benchmark test on mine and the result was up there with the so called expensive flagship devices.

I'm not so sure about that, can also be a system app that draws much battery while the phone is "awake". Hopefully the 5.1 update will fix it.
I got mine from an Ebay reseller (4gb, 1.8GHz model) and the battery brings me through the day (It's close, but enough).

Hi
Can you check guys If you can open Halifax app? I can not use it
I hv ze551ml 4x2.3 GHz and 4gb ram.

Are you rooted? If your phone is rooted you may not be able to open any banking app.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Free mobile app

I'm not rooted and it won't get past the authenticating device screen . Crashes back to the home screen.

So its same. Thank you.

Santander app works fine, so I'm guessing it's the app that's the problem.

I got mine from HK when I was there in April. Managed to buy the 64gig version with the high end proc. Unfortunately Im not impressed with the battery life. I also bought a 32gig 1.8ghz version for my wife and her battery life is far better but the performance is about the same as mine.
Since I bought it I had quite a few update nearly every 2 weeks but the battery life has not been improved. The last update caused an intermittent reboot and screen freeze as well so I hope they will fix these or I will get rid of the phone. I also found that it heats up quite quickly even if I only use the camera which is a bit odd.
The camera is quite good I have done some nice pics with the phone. I needed the dual sim abilities which is working but not well I keep losing signal on one of the sim even they are from the same provider (voda uk). The power charger is ok even the phone is flat can charge up fairly quick (not 70% in 30 mins but close). The overall performance is not bad and I like its features but Im not sure if I would recommend the phone to anyone because of the glitches above. It was cheap though I managed to get mine about £220 in HK.
My antutu score is: 47398

Maybe if you try having a different SIM instead of Vodafone in one of the SIM slots may solve your signal loss issue.
The camera is pretty good I was surprised at the quality of picture taken I honestly don't understand why the reviews kept bashing the camera.

No, I didn't. I have rooted most of my prev phone. Im waiting for 5.1 to see if its resolve the issues I got. If I root there is no OTA.

So that exactly same as me. Its my first mobile without root.

There's a new update 118MB

Had one on pre order from Warehouse Stationary @ $949 but cancelled today as Noel Leeming are selling them @ $839.20. Marble White 16.gb. In theory it's a Vodafone device but there is no branding of any sort. Device is sim free. Manufactured in Vietnam. Still finding my way with it. First impressions all good. What has impressed me most so far is the Gps. Cold start, out of the box, indoors and 2-3 seconds 16/17 fixed sats!

Got mine from 2degrees today on contract with $0 up front. Very happy with it. Upgraded from a Galaxy Nexus. Wish I waited for the Pebble Blue but the launch promo ended today
I had the white on order with warehouse stationery but for the last 2 days they have said it is with the courier. Ended up cancelling and went elsewhere. Voda firmware but no branding on the phone. Enjoying it so far
Hi chaps! I was the first in NZ to get one at the Voda midnight release sale, loving it so far!
Cheap plug: Make sure to check out AndroidNZ.net for great locally produced content on Android and the S3.
Wasn't going to pick one up until I noticed the same $840 Noel Leeming deal. I think I might have got the last one in stock across the country - was walking out of the store empty handed until the retail assistant called us back saying that another guy that was meant to pick it up wasn't going to afterall
Oh, the phone itself... It will be the first Samsung smartphone, no actually first non-HTC smartphone I've used for more than a few weeks. Should be interesting to say the least - oh and TouchWiz isn't a hunk of junk, might stay stock for a little while

Yep, this iteration of TouchWiz is very usable, I'm not feeling any particular pressure to install an alternate launcher just not either.

Currently writing a short piece on the comparison for TelecomTech, updated with everything I've learnt since the time I wrote the last one and 24 hours with the S3
First impressions on battery life are very good. I've not gone through a full charge discharge cycle yet and have been using it heavily last night and lightly this morning. Basically everything on except haptic feedback.

30% left on first full discharge, 17.5 hours, just over 4 hours of display time so far
Idle time is very impressive or is that just me?
Where are the lockscreen options and how do I make the notification area accessible from the lockscreen?
From the standard lock screen you should be able to just swipe down as you would from the home screen to get into the notification bar.
Well after 4 days of ownership I am absolutely loving this phone, the battery life, the slickness of the included apps, and TW5. Samsung have ventured into a new territory which whilst not perfect TW5 includes enough tweaks and options to suggest that not only are listening to their consumers and adapting to suit but they have come up with a UI that imho offers a better experience than AOSP, I think they have actually added value to AOS and put an almost iOS-que polish over top
Got New S3
just got mine a few days ago from JB Hifi for $988 with 16gb micro sd
and just putting it through its paces installing apps and games
The GPS on the S3 is amazing compared to other s's a had a location within 8 seconds and i turn off all data and WiFi capabilities
the big games on s3 like GTA3 run smoothly (bringing back memories of playing this game on my Win ME PC)

what i normally do when a get a battery type device (phone, laptop, etc) is to charge it till it says 100% then discharge it fully to 0% then charge it up again. This will ensure you have a long battery capacity in the future
Got to agree that battery life, GPS, screen, sound etc are all great. The only thing I don't like is touchwiz so I have gone back to Go launcher, which by the way really flies on this.
Picked up a nice mercury clip on case today plus screen protector from the telecom shop. Must say both actually add to the look and feel of the phone rather than take away from it.
I've not rooted yet but but probably will by the weekend. I'm enjoying the stock Rom but am definitely looking forward to cm9 and aokp roms to see what this baby can really do
I'm not impressed with the 'sticky' horizontal scrolling which I believe is an ICS feature. Other than that everything's good.

Very impressed with the screen, speed and battery life of the phone. After having my S2 for a year, I'm suprised at just what an upgrade the 3 is, can't say I was expecting a lot from it compared to what it gives.
A couple of things I've noticed; the battery doesn't charge to 100%, and stand-by seems to chew a lot more battery than actually using the phone.

Pre ordered my 32 Blue through my work, still waiting on it As a rough time frame for people who ordered blue one, Noel Leemings and Bond and Bond have an ETA od mid june...mid freaking june is too far away

Over a week and still in love...

Wow, using it over a week now and loving this phone even more....
Long stretch from my Galaxy S5, why didn't this phone come before I bought my S5 LOL
No battery issues here, getting more out of this phone then my S5 and better after the last OTA update. For anyone who's having battery issues, there are several features to disable to get the most out of your battery, do a search on google, there's a ton of people who's increased battery life by taking these steps.
As for the bloatware, I usually root my phone but I don't see the reason too with this one even with all the bloatware, most you can disable. The PC Link is a godsend, wow, every phone should have this feature. Speed wise, I've got mine on Balance mode and it's lightning speed, you can go all out and draw a bit more speed by using the Performance mode but you'll sacrifice some battery life, I didn't notice a whole lot of battery drain in that mode, may go back just to get that extra speed.
The only real gripe I have with this phone is the ability to sync effectively with Outlook, I keep my contacts and schedule on Outlook and with the S5 Samsung Kies was a nice free option to do so. Wish ASUS had a similar app to sync Outlook. The best way I found so far to do this is SyncDroid, worth the $4 to get my contacts synced alone. Calendar I just use Google Calendar Sync seems to do the job. But still prefer to stick with one PC app that does it altogether. If anyone out there found a better (Free) option then SyncDroid, please let me know. I won't use Outlook.com, I find it a pain and somewhat glitchy. Outlook is a pretty widely used app and I think this should be mandatory for all Android phones, this to me would make Android the ultimate mobile device. I paranoid about syncing my entire contact list and calendar via online/cloud etc. I prefer to do it locally with my pc.
This truly is an amazing product for the price, screen is not as bright as my S5 SuperAmoled but I'll take the performance, size, memory over screen hands down, big deal, it's a bit hard to see under sunlight but honestly, I don't use it under direct sunlight that much to ditch the phone. Asus has made excellent effort to keep OTA's coming, which is more then what I can say for Samsung phones. I don't think this phone is going away anytime soon, the only store that sells this phone in our city can't keep this thing in stock, they are constantly sold out, that's a good thing, if it sells that well, Asus will continue to support this phone. The hardware in the phone has great potential for future improvements, Android OS updates will just keep making it better.
Let's just hope the built in battery (which is my other gripe) will last. I hate built in batteries, gives me Iphone jitters I hope the battery is easily replaceable. But Samsung's new flagship has also gone this route. I saw the Zenfone 2 takedown and it seems relative straight forward so battery replacement is doable, would be nice to see companies start making 4000mAh or 5000mAh batteries for this phone
For all who are having intermittent issues and giving up, just be a little patient, this is a brand new phone, there will always be issues, happens to flagship phones, Asus is doing very well getting OTA's to us to fix these problems and I'm confident there will be more to come, growing pains. And please, don't knock this phone because it's not up to par with your Iphone 6 or S6 or phones that are twice/three times the price, it's like giving a Honda Civic a bad review because it doesn't compare to your Audi or Mercedes, how much did your Mercedes cost compared to your Civic, come on, let's be realistic.
Good luck with your new ZF2!
The problem is large amount of zen2 having defective battery. It causes high battery drain or randomly shutdown issue. I also have my battery replaced from service center. Otherwise, this fone perform very well with its price

I haven't really measured using the battery usage. I go by normal use through out the day comparing it with my S5, I'll go through a day running my typical apps, texting, surfing and emailing and the odd calls. I'll end up with about 60-70% battery life by about 9 pm from about 8 am, that's when I sit down and plug it in to charge, I consider pretty good considering I was getting about 30-40% with my Galaxy S5 using it the same way. Not sure if that helps.

It's a taiwan version, i had issue with it after 2 weeks of using. I also see people report error from other versions too in zentalk
I've used mine for a bit over a day and I'm impressed. Performance is great, build quality seems great too. I've read some reviews that state the phone feels cheap, but to me it feels and looks better than Samsung S4 or S5.
I have no problem reaching the power button on top, it feels easier than pressing the power button on the side of my old 4.7" Blu Life Play phone, as I don't have to change the grip to reach the power button.
Battery life is a concern though. Yesterday I spent the day applying updates, rooting, instalar all my apps and tweaking all config options. The charge did not last me the day. Hopefully today it'll fare better today after all customization and setup is done.

I've been reading a lot of reviews for the ZF2 seems like the CN versions have more problems, I wonder if they got some duds. And also, I've noticed that the ZE551 CN versions have different configurations, maybe that's the problem.
Sorry to bring up an older post, but I see a lot of people loving this phone, and some haters (There's always haters)....I have an iphone 6 now after being on Android for a long time, and I'm about fed up with iOS...All of the things people say about iOS are true...locked down...Boring...Ect... That's a different topic for a different day..
My question is, how is the screen? Lots of people have complained about brightness, or lack there of. Also, camera, is it at least average? I'm looking to go about 300 on a phone and there's a few choices out there, but none seem as powerful as the Zenfone 2 with 4gb of ram, 64gb storage. It seems a little more future proof than the OPO, so I'm thinking of getting it....
Will I be disappointed coming from the Nexus line, then iPhone 6?

I've had mine now about 3 weeks and I think that the phone is great for the price. The camera is OK, certainly not iPhone 6 good, but reasonable, especially when you use alternate camera apps. The screen is fine, but once again, I'm indoors most of the day, so no issue. Max brightness outside is not so great the one or two times I've used it.
I think that the phone is a work in progress and that a lot of the deficiencies that you see people griping about will be addressed with future Android updates. On the plus side, Asus had been sending out updates frequently so they seem committed to making this phone better.

I came from a Nexus 5 and was considering the same two phones as you. Decided to go with the zenfone 2 based on Asus being more reputable and customer friendly from what i read. So far its been great. I did root (which is super easy via one click) and used titanium to freeze all the unwanted apps. Haven't experienced any lag. Camera wont be as good as the Iphone, but definitely better than my nexus 5. I dont game on it because I dont see the point of gaming on a phone, but i did run hearthstone flawlessly. To me, the build quality is nice. comparable to Galaxy s4/5, so im not sure why so many reviews bring it up as a major con. at $300 this phone is awesome. And once Asus pushed out 5.1 it should shine even more, as 5.1 bumps android up to 64bit, and this has a 64bit chipset.
This phone is way better than I expected for $299. I'm coming from an LG G2, and I'm not missing anything. You can spend 3x this much on a phone and you won't end up with much more.
Honestly my biggest nit-pick is the power button placement, but double-tap-to-wake/sleep is far more convenient than any possible hardware switch. Battery life is a touch lower than I'm used to, but QC 2 is really great.

Is the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE551K a good phone?

Anyone here used the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE551K? What is your opinion on it? Is it good value for what you paid? Or is it full of problems and not worth the trouble?
It is a good phone but the ZE551ML is better. The ZE551KL is currently 229 at B&H Photo but the 4GB/64GB ZE551ML is just 249. If you go with the gray or red versions you get a ZenPower battery pack and a ZenFlash for free; the black one comes with a free ZenPower pack.
I am currently using a ZE551KL while my ZE551ML is off on RMA so I speak from experience. The ZE551KL does not measure up to the ZE551ML: no fast charge, no NFC, less storage, less RAM, worse battery life, slower CPU. I am not saying the ZE551KL is not a good phone by any means, just that for 30 more you can have a much better one.
Hold off for the zenfone 3. I'm using a 551kl right now running unofficial cyanogen 13. And it's pretty smooth. With the right apps installed. But the new line of zenfones are far beyond these ones. They should be on the market soon.
But really...for the money you can't get much better than either variants of the zenfone 2. They're solid units.

Yes, the ZE551ML is slightly faster, but the ZE551KL is often 199 at Amazon and other places.
Some minor ZE551KL advantages over ZE551ML:
- The camera module on the ZE551KL is the same as the ZE551ML, except the ZE551KL focuses much faster because of the laser autofocus.
- Gorilla Glass 4 as opposed to 3. (although, that probably doesn't matter much as both phones will readily shatter if they land face down and take a hit near the edge of the glass)
- The battery on the ZE551KL is replaceable
- If you drop the phone and need to replace the glass and display module (~30 dollars on ebay) the process is easier on the ZE551KL due to the user removable battery and single mainboard architecture
Just my personal opinion, but I think the ZE551KL will also get Marshmallow sooner. A model identical except for the RAM already got the update. Since they are dealing with Intel hardware on the ZE551ML, I presume that will give them the most trouble. They even saw fit to change the release date from "Q2 2016" to "starting Q2 2016".

I would not say slightly faster. There is a big difference in performance between the phones. I think it is a shame that Intel has dropped out of the mobile CPU business as their chips are real powerhouses.
- I have not found the ZE551KL to focus any faster in my experience. I seem to get more blurred shots with it than my ZE551ML.
- You are correct. I use tempered glass screen protectors on any phone I have so it is not a big matter to me. Any version of GG is better than none.
- I do like the removable battery but it is not an issue to me. If I seldom stay with a phone long enough for the battery to become an issue.
- I can see that one. My ZE551ML was RMAed due to the glass/display module developing a silver outline from the glue separating/leaking. Had I been smart I would have replaced it myself or had it done locally; after a month without my phone and me emailing and raising some hell Asus has finally offered to give me a replacement as they said they were having trouble getting the parts for mine.
Hold off buying Asus phones in general. Slow to nothing software development from Asus.

This is trashdroid, phones get slow or no software updates unless it's Nexus but then you're going to pay much more and lose features like msim or SDcard slot.
Tbh for $200 you can't get better device ( unless it's some xiaomi from China lol ) also if you don't care about warranty you can just go for CM which works rather well on this phone.
I agree with the slow to no software development from Asus. And I have to disagree on the CM alternative: it's only nightlies and some crucial phone functionality are either a hit or miss (e.g. I gave up on it bc my mic wouldnt work properly when using loud speaker).
So, in software terms, it's very bad. But you can live with stock if you root or with CM if you dont need stability.
Hardware wise, it's a good bang for the buck.

If you meant low volume then I fixed that some time ago.

I have owned both the ML and the KL and I can say without the slightest hesitation that the KL is better overall.
got the 6.0.1 update from asus today for my ze551kl.

I'm sure she will be happy with it. I'm using one as well as my ZE551ML and I think it is a pretty good device for $280.00 Canadian. Not quite as fast, but pretty darn good for the value.

Oh well, just as I posted that MM update was released.

Great! I'll give it another shot soon.
Does this phone actually support a 256GB micro SD (as per GSMArena)? Or should her buy a smaller size SD card? =)

I don't think you'll find many people who tried 256G sdcard on this device.

This phone supports SDXC (like any phone above the 32GB limit SD card size), thus can handle capacities up to 2TB, as long as it is formatted exFAT (for example, at least not FAT32). 256GB is the limit only so far as it is reasonable to barely find 256GB cards out there this year, as 128GB was the limit for the ZE551ML last year. They are just using sizes that would be accessible to consumers.
I wouldn't worry about getting the highest capacity card, unless there is a use case for it. 256GB is a lot of media. I use 64GB MicroSD, and for day-to-day use (not storing TWRP backups), it is plenty.
FWIW, I have both the 551ML (2GB RAM/16GB ROM version) and the 551KL (3/16), although is a tad slower than the former, the latter makes up for it in battery life (which is mostly just a symptom of a "fresh phone", since the 5551ML would have worn down a bit in the past year), although in their prime either could get three days of charge (551KL still seems to edge out, in that the battery is easily replaceable).
BTW, just got the 6.0.1 update.

Are you still using your h8Pro?

it's been more than a year since the phone's been released. while we didn't get to see a honor 9 Pro, there were many new phones released by Huawei and honor with similar specs and value.
are you guys still using your phone? or moved on to something else?
if you have moved on, do you miss anything from the h8Pro? and if you are still using, care to share what you like?
Yes!!
I purchased my Honor 8 Pro on 25th July 2017 and it's been over a year now and I am still using it.
The device is serving me exceptionally well. The Kirin 960 hasn't aged a bit for me. Performace is top notch just like day 1. I do not experience any lag or stutter in any app or in the UI. The battery life is also great. Providing me with a little over hours of screen on time, it would have been better but I lay PUBG a lot and it drains my battery quickly. Coming to PUBG, I play at the highest available settings right now that is HD, HDR isn't out for the Honor 8 Pro yet. Frame rate is on high and anti aliasing is on which all contribute to battery drain. I would have turned down all the settings which would have saved my battery but what's the use of having all that power under the hood if you aren't going to use it.
Yeah still inbuse and working perfectly. I still use it because there is no need to update, everything works smooth and battery is still great. Honor is also finally supporting their phones longer, which gives added incentive to buy a new Honor phone, when I feel like upgrading.
I purchased it recently (July 2018) so don't have an option to get another one for at least a year, sometimes I regret buying it as it doesn't have the kind of performance that other 2018 midranged phones have.
The phone was advertised too well saying that it is Odin of gaming and all but Snapdragon 660 phones perform better than Kirin960 powered H8P.
Camera isn't great anymore, honor has degraded the camera performance so that people will buy Honor 10 or Honor V10.
I am very disappointed with the phone which costs around 26000 INR.
I upgraded from OnePlus one to honor 8 pro on 10th July 2017. I wanted a 128GB phone with good camera, battery and dual SIM. So far not disappointed. I have installed lot of apps, using android auto etc. Got Pie update yesterday. I am not looking for an upgrade at least for another year.

Got updated to pie and using it even now. Not feeling the need to change to a newer device. Everything works as expected for me. I am extremely happy with it.
Did you get OTA update to Pie?
Where are you from?
I am at 8.0 android....

Finally after two years, decided to switch to a new phone. Thanks to swollen battery which is getting bigger and hotter day by day and Honor service center who gave a 5000rs quote for replacement battery. The phone was awesome in all other ways.

Zenfone 2 is dead. It's time to change

I think it's clear for everyone here that Zenfone 2 is dead. The Intel processor at the same time that gave us good performance, it killed our chances for good ROMs and updates.
It's time to change, I don't think we should expect ROM updates, I don't think devs should spend there time working in a dead phone.
So, knowing all of that, what's your next move? Zenfone 5? OnePlus 6? Xiaomi?

I'm waiting for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 or maybe I'll get a used Galaxy S9+ in good conditions.
The stupid Intel CPU sometimes gets on my nerves with the incompatibilities, random force closes and excessive overheating
Our only hope is NutOS. 8.0 should be the last Android available for this phone
yeah, an oreo will be great for this device, just lurking the forum to see if a stable one will popup (still some good progress around)

My phone is a little over three years old (bought on 23 June 2015). But now i have battery issues. Phone constantly shuts down when battery is around 25% (It happens only if phone is on load). But otherwise it jumps from 15% to 1-2% and shuts down immediately.
I am having display issues as well. A single cyan colored line at around 25% from the left end.
Otherwise it is working well. I don't think it is worth repairing.
But I'm happy that mine lasted more than my friends

If you are OK with a screwdriver you can fix both of these problems for less than $40US. A lot cheaper than a new phone.

About repairing, the problem is I'm from India and I am skeptical about ordering replacement parts from amazon.in.
There are no parts in amazon that are amazon fulfilled and most of them doesn't have a review or the ones that had been reviewed doesn't make me feel confident to buy it. Plus replacements parts are not that cheap in India. Importing replacement parts is going to cost me high import duties ( I think I'll have to pay nearly double about 40% import duty ).
I had a good run with this phone.
But since the intel modem is badly optimised and battery inefficient for 4G, the lack of VoLTE and the absence of even 3G in second SIM and with no software updates and the problem with custom roms ( Devs please don't take it as an offence. You really made our Zenfones better, better than ASUS could ever make it, but porting x86 to arm has it's incompatibilities ).
I think I'll switch to a new phone after my battery gives up or if the display issue worsen.
I bought the OnePlus 6 today. Zenfone 2 was a hard, but amazing journey.
I really recommend everyone to change. Even Mi A1 and A2 are far superior than this phone.
Thank you devs for your support
What about LG G7? What do you think about it?

Mine actually did die last Tuiesday
Unplugged it from charging and stopped.
Undid the thing and worked then put in charger again and died forever
Was a good phone and i liked working on it and miss it.
Got a new Samsung S7 Edge
Hate to say it, but battery is far supreme already.
Spent about 7hr updating apps on it and playing around and went down from 100% to 50% on the battery.
Amazing battery.

I'll keep mine until it dies. I know that there are new phones for half the price but this Intel processor is fast enough for my needs.
Besides, every new phone means a lot of planet resources and bad working conditions.
Only annoying thing is it's back curve that force us to buy only ZF2 covers
There is a new x86 phone from Leagoo called the T5c. It has 8 cores but only 3GB of ram.

NEVER go for intel cpu, the problem of zf2 is poor intel support for modders.
this is why zf2 is stuck with los 14 bugged and no hope of improvement.
always go for snapdragon cpus, this ensure more life for future custom roms
