cant write to external sd ES file broswer - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it says kitkat removed the feature why??.is there a way to get rid of this
isn't it fixed in lollipop?

google remove that permission for security reasons, if you want to add the permissions to write on sd trough any app you must root your device and install an app to do that

[Q] Cm7.1 root access?

I recently installed Cm7.1 on my Nook Color, does this give me root access? The reason i ask this is because i was attempting to access my build.prop to try to get some games to work but i can not seem to be able to access it via Astro File Manager. Also on a side note, every time i install an app and do not have my sd card in my Nook i am prompted to do so instead of using my internal memory?

CM7 is a rooted ROM. The file access model is setup to make sure you know what you're doing to prevent you from modifying or deleting a file that is essential to the system even though the ROM itself is rooted. I don't use Astro so I don't know how to get root access for that app. File managers like File Expert (free) or Root Explorer (cheap) will allow you to access the root and system files, but you may have to enable the capability in a setup option. In addition, you will have to set the directory to read/write from read-only to actually modify a file.
Thanks for the info, thought i did something wrong when i was installing cm7

If you use ES File Explorer (recommended) then it has a setting to make the system directory read / write. You can then just long touch the file, open it using the built in text editor and save it.
Yup i did that, checked both boxes under root settings but i am unable to navigate out of the sd card
es file explorer
To get out of SD card, go into settings and change home to / instead of /mnt/sdcard next time you open it will start in base directory

4.3 SDCard

Just updated OTA to 4.3 last night and now my apps will not write to the SDcard. I have two in particular that I used a lot. Winamp and pocketcasts, I get an error Eacces permission denied and Winamp I use the program that changed the id3 tags and adds cover art, that acts like its working, but when you apply the changes it never actually saves. So obviously google changed how SDcard access works. Just wondering if there was anything I could do, or do I need to wait for everyone to update their apps? Ive reinstalled the pocketcasts app and double checked it has external permissions to the sdcard and it says it does. such a bummer

I was just discovering this very annoying problem on my own phone. Apparently the Android 4.2 guidelines say that apps are not supposed to write to the external SD card. For whatever reason the i9505G 4.2.2 build still allowed this, but not 4.3. Instructions for re-enabling this is described here, under Update #2: http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is_Google_blocking_apps_writing_to_SD_cards_/
I was able to see what file you were talking about, however it appears without root I cannot save the changes. I have not seen anywhere how to root the google edition of the phone either, so Im stuck.
I have the same issue as well, except that ES File Explorer can write to the directory. I've been trying to reverse engineer as to why and recompile the apk.
ES File Explorer (Can write)
FX File Manager (Can't Write)

to changes permissions , you nedd root, and SUPER SU.
If you are root install it from play store.
Then, when you are on root explorer and try to move or edit something from system you´ll be prompted if you bring supersu to root explorer. You must accept.
For the permissions, select a file and keep it pressed a few segs. It will show you a menu, then you have permissions

enable write access on sd card

Hi all,
I would like to be able to delete or copy a file from my phone to my sd card. Since KitKat, we need to root the cellphone in order to be able to do so. Today, the constructor has deployed Android N on its phone. Should I wait for a rom comes out so I can root my phone and still have Android nougat on it?
Thanks for your help.
You don't need root to write to sd in Marshmallow. Depending on the file manager, you only need to grant permission to have full access to sd.
yep. you just need to give permission no need to be root.
if you want to root the thing take a look at the genesis kernel thread in the proper section.
or use rootkernel (search) to make a patched kernel. there are a couple of things you need to read up on first if you are not familiar with sony phones ie. what unlocking the bootloader does and how to avoid it/be able to return fully to stock by backup of the TA partition. (dirtycow thread).
but as said if the problem is just writing to the sd card read up on granting permission to the sd card (since LP) you do not need to be root to be able to do that.
Hi
Thanks for your prompt reply
I have nougat... Which app should I then download and how can I give the permission?
Currently I have set up FX folder...
Thanks

i would recommend total commander (old habits die hard) its a simple good file commander imho.
when you launch it select the big plus sign 'user-defined location', it will open the external sdcard in the builtin nougat file selector to give permission. select the root of the sdcard or if you only want to give access to a folder you can do that. it will create a new shortcut to your sdcard in total commander and you should be able to transfer files back and forth.
I am not really familiar with other file managers, but it should be possible with just about every one that is popular/updated.
Realtuxen> Nice one!! Tx!
Any idea if we can do it also for mx player? Vlc or any other media player app?

This file manager has a bug which can't open the external SD card even with the root permission.
Use ES File Explorer app or any other file manager app.
Ok thanks all
Delete the .Android Secure Folder in SD card to Fix. (use PC or file manager to deleted it)
