How to set permission in kitkat? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on 4.4.2 20d...i have root and yesterday when I tried to copy one file using root explorer...it shows read only...and there was no option to change to read write...
Then i installed super manager...i got success in copying...but there was no option to set permission to rw-r-r.
So please suggest a way to set permissions in root...any app or way of setting it.
I was frustrated as i haven't set permission to the file i have copied.
How to easily set permissions in kitkat?and how to easily make read write?

Does anyone have lg optimus apk & odex file for kitkat??
One from lg general thread is down.....

to changes permissions , you nedd root, and SUPER SU.
If you are root install it from play store.
Then, when you are on root explorer and try to move or edit something from system you´ll be prompted if you bring supersu to root explorer. You must accept.
For the permissions, select a file and keep it pressed a few segs. It will show you a menu, then you have permissions

Allshare

Hello i have the kyrollos 3.1 editon and cant install allshare.
Can somewone tell me how to install??
Thanks a lot
XxxTarkanxxx
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA Premium App
get the deodexed apps of ur original firmware
search for the allshare apk file
root ur phone
get root explorer or any other root enabled file explorer
copy the .apk file to system/app and reboot ur phone
Kyrillos v4 final:
I tried to install the dlna.apk with Easy Installer (message: not installed). Then I tried to move the apk with File Expert directly into the system/app folder where all other apk where. It did tell me that it is handling this copy but nothing appeared in this folder...
Tried it again with File Manager but he wouldn't let me Paste the file into the folder...
What next? Any ideas?
Thanks
did u enable R\W mode???
good question. I just realized that the folder is still on read-only.
I tried to use terminal emulator and type "chmod 755 ./system/" to change the rights but I got "unable to chmod system. read-only file system"...
So what did I miss?
use the built in switcher in root explorer or other file managers( e-strongs or astro) i know both have r\w toggle
or goto data\app and paste it there
u need to manually change permissions for each folder
So with root explorer I just go to the folder and change the rights into r/w?
If I understood correctly I need to change the rights first in system then in app, right?
Root Explorer rocks
I managed to change the rights (with "Mount R/W") andthis changed the rights also for the subfolders. Then I pasted the dlna.apk file into the app folder. Then I changed the rights back to r/o.
After reboot it took some time to get everything up again, and all my apps where again unsorted on the different screens.
The file is still in the folder but no allshare application in my programs....
So I copied the file into the data/app folder...
Reboot (didn't take a long time) still no app there...
What now?
Maybe someone knows another app from the market which can do the same thing, also for Samsung and other brands?
Thanks
did u get the deodexed apps from JPM rom or any other
& what do u allshare for???
I downloaded the dlna.apk from the internet and tried to install it with easy installer. I'm not sure whether it is from JPM How can I find out?
I want to use allshare with a Samsung TV.
Having flashed Kyrillos ROM.
Was that the question?
try imediashare or samsung remote
free from market
Download system app+framework file from kyrillos rom post n copy dlna file to system/app using root explorer!

How do i set up cracked google wallet?

I've tried copying the apk from downloads and pasting it into /system/app but i just get an error saying access denied at the end!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

how do i go about doing that?
I've tried to find it, but just can't find out for the life of me!
You need Root Explorer, ES Explorer or similar. Before you paste into /system/app you must mount /system as read/write within the app, then paste your file in. Once there, tap and hold on the file and a menu will appear with an option to fix permissions. You need to set owner with read/write and group and world with read only (it looks like rw-r--r--).

I'm using ES Explorer, i have astro file manager too, but still struggling!
Sorry if i'm being a pain
EDIT: I've found the problem... i didnt enable root browser in the options ¬_¬
sorted it for now i think!
Thanks a load both of you
EDIT #2: I've changed the permissions, then something forceclosed, and now i've restarted and am stuck on the google screen on boot not good i assume!

Permission problems

Hi, my rooted Kindle recently un-rooted after I did a factory reset to fix an issue with the sound. I have re-rooted using both KFFA and B4 Binary methods but now don't seem able to use Es Explorer to move Go Ex into my system/app folder.
Live Wallpaper and Widget picker both managed to move, however it fails if I try to change permissions on anything. I have used Root Checker to make sure I am definitely rooted so don't know what the problem is. The launcher from the KFFA kit works although has major issues freezing and loosing the side bar with the home and back buttons on.
I have downloaded from both play store and on-line into my downloads folder but when I attempt to move, I get permission denied. I can't change permissions in the download folder and Es is set up in root mode, SU is allowing access and the SD is mounted. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Follow Up - Root Explorer

dam0fitz,
Can you afford Root Explorer? I think it is $4.99 and is worth every penny. I have had issues with ES file Explorer too, so I can not directly answer your question without looking at your device.
Check out Root Explorer here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en
Root Explorer immediately activates Root at first launch, just FYI. Nothing to configure like ES File Explorer.

Modify the build.prop in its original original location itself and then save it & reboot, don't copy build.prop to other folder then modify it and then re-paste in it's original location you'll stuck with a bootloop, just modify it in it's original location. Btw next time before making a thread do make sure where should it belong this is a [Q] Question thread so should have been in QA, help & troubleshooting section, next time be sure to know where you have to make a new thread.
My apologies for the wrong section. I'm new sorry.
However, I forget to write that what you just suggested (modify it directly without make a copy) it's the first thing that I tried but with no success.
After I pressed the button save, Explorer app prompts an advise saying that an error occured and that the changes have not been applied.
And now? :crying:

In system > build.prop (original location) is the device mounted to R/W?
Hi,
First, this line "ro.media.enc.jpeg.quality=100" does nothing...
After that if you change the location of a file, when you move it again you need to set the correct permissions like the original files, other than that you can encounter a bootloop.
Like RuchRha said modifie the file directly, no need to move it...
And if I were you I'll make a Nandroid backup before playing with file system...
These are the file permissions that I see into the file properties.
rw- r-- r--
Is this what you was asking me?

If you can see an option of Mount R/W instead click on it and it should change/show you Mount R/O instead of showing mount R/W, when the time when system is not mounted to R/W and you try to edit buildprop and save it, it shows error n doesn't gets saved.

Nope,
Read Only system:
Read/Write:
You need to mount the system as R/W.
EDIT: too late...
To the best of my uderstanding the free version does not permit such kind of change.
Is there any free app that I can use?

[Q] Update downloaded to phone - Where is it stored?

So my phone downloaded the update and keeps trying to get me to install the update. Where is the update stored on the phone? I want to delete it.
I am still running a older version of SACS ROM and don't want to install it and want to get rid of all the prompts to install it.

I followed the directions in the post:
Navigate to:
/system/app: change fwupgrade.apk to fwupgrade.old and keychain.pak to keychain.old
/system/etc/security: change otacerts.zip to otacerts.old
Now reboot to recovery mode and wipe cache. Reboot system to GUI. If update appears, accept install. Countdown will appear but nothing will be installed.
The update notification will no longer appear.
1st - I don't have a fwupgrade.apk in /system/app (I even did a search for it and couldn't find it anywhere)
2nd - When I try to rename or delete the otacers.zip (in the /system/etc/security) it won't let me. It just says it can't be renamed or can't be deleted.
I am using ES File Explorer.

You must mount the directory as 'read/write' to modify.
Not sure where that option is in ES but if you have root it's there I think.
You may not have the fwupgrade.apk OR you may just not be able to see it with that Explorer if you don't have the option checked to see system/root apps.
I use Root Explorer worth every penny for me.
BUT you can use ROM Toolbox - the Lite version(free) does have a root explorer that will let you mount as R/W.
