I've done it many times and it works fine. No, it doesn't trip Knox.

Maybe I'll just have to see on YouTube if there is a link for me to see how it is done, the good ole roll back. I wish I was a bit more bold with all this. I'm afwaaid

Tried to reply to your PM but is say that you have it PMs blocked.
This seems to be the only Note 4 video on youtube. Its for the a different Note 4 but as long as you use the AT&T Note 4 Firmware, you should be good to go.

Just did it, thank you very much! Bought me a N4 off of Swappa with Lollipop already installed and after a few days deciding to revert to see if the battery life is better and how the experience differs.

It seems after rolling back that my battery life got better. Anyone else?

I have always gotten better battery life from KK than L.

i PREFER KK 4.4.4 on the Note 4

finally downgraded after contemplating doing this for a week or 2 now b/c of a few bugs and sluggishness i noticed with lollipop, not to mention battery life and even handoffs between 4g and 3g. just my personal experience but thought i'd chime in.
thanks for the super easy directions to follow. mine didn't happen to bootloop at all but everything else is back the way i like it.

What?! Lollipop is the greatest thing evah! Battery life is 50% better and ditto for performance!!!!!!!!! :good::highfive::fingers-crossed::silly::victory:
Well, that is how both Android team and the lemmings in the media call it at least. The media STILL has the nerve of exclamation points when announcing Lollipop status on devices.
All Android is doing is trying to get as close to being Apple as they can without saying it. Now the device makers are following suit. It does not help that the most creepy Apple fetish company
called Samsung also eagerly follows suit. Note 4 is a probably the last true great non Apple-like device by Samsung, but still tainted by Lollipop's pure suckiness.

After downloading this file, and using 7zip to extract I get a broken file error... Then if you try to run it in odin any way you get a bad binary warning..

Yes, it is stock official firmware from Samsung. It is the same as if you bought the device from Verizon or Samsung with 4.4.4 on it.

Worked great for me! Only took about 15 minutes tops. KITKAT is so much better than LOLLIPOP!

OK cool. just wondering in case Verizon releases a stable build of lollipop...lol..I'm sticking to kitkit for now! Thanks for this!!!:good:

Hello everyone, if I roll my phone back to KitKat will there a way to stop the Verizon notifications for an OTA update if your not rooted? I don't want to be reminded every hour that there is an update that I have to download and install.
Thank you,
Chris

New Update N910VVRU2BPA1

I've been chatting with Samsung Support through Twitter about Kies not taking my serial # for my Note 4. They asked for my serial # and my imei #, so I gave it to them and they asked what version i was on and told them BOK3, they wrote back saying there is a newer version, so I asked which one is it. So here is a screenshot.
OTA Update provided by @hsbadr thanks to @doinsvelt

Safe Upgrade N910VVRU2BPA1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=65278655
Update: if your battery takes a dump with the OTA, it is recommend that you do a repair via the Verizon assistant or via Kies. But if you are on a safe upgrade version then this will take you out of safe upgrade and keep you on BOG5 incremented bootloader.
Maybe a new Samsung version, but maybe not a Verizon version?

Here are the screenshots.
They responded back that it is 5.1.1 with security patches
So Samsung says there is another version they have out. But has Verizon released it yet? The manufacturer releases versions to the carriers who then release it to the phone owners after they do their "branding". Case in point, Samsung released 6.0.1 for the Note 4, but we don't have it yet. So

I just got this update. Here it is.
It's up and running now. The wifi notification is gone which is great.
Got it here as well. Glad the wifi notification is gone.... now to see if it still references AT&T in the Wifi Settings. LOL
My bad, I got it too.

Hopefully it fixes my battery life problem, after the 5.1.1 update my battery life is TERRIBLE. It is the worse it has ever been and that's with trying to different factory OEM batteries.......The Note 4 really was a disappointment for a phone with such awesome hardware...
If anybody able to pull OTA and link it, I would put in the OP, I have it downloaded, but not installed. If anybody can guide me to pull it, I would appreciate it
Interesting

Please if someone could capture... it will be awesome, sammobile still not post 5.1.1, so it would be almost a year until they put BPA1 available, the only way i installed 5.1.1 was from a zip file someone upload it

Hi,i was wondering how you go about installing 5.1.1 zip. Well my question is ,are you using a retailer edition and what recovery you went into flash?,is it stock recovery if you're using RE?,am just little confuse about it.Thank you in advance.

Its quite simple indeed just download the zip file from the forum 5.1.1 then save it in ur sd card, press up volume, power and home button at the same time to access stock recovery, navigate to option where is says update from a file, there you go it will update to 5.1.1, batter been slightly different (not a big improvement) im indeed a very very heavy user.... i received emails all day from my job, need to check whatsapp several times, there is some annoyances however... like wifi notification that is connected never go away... the wireless and fast charging notification remain in 5.0.1 now in 5.1.1 just says it once time and disappear, album cover full screen its completly gone.... performance in task screen and some apps display faster and also navigate throught touchwiz its a little bit better... not a BIG BIG difference... they put connect to at&t network (even thou its verizon), everything its fixed in BPA1 update so if you want to give a shot go ahead... i mean its not a big big diference but if you are bored of being in 4.4.4 or 5.0.1 go ahead! good luck
This may need to go devs but notice every time you boot into recovery on this update it says "installing update". Not sure exactly what that means cause I am no dev but it seems like the the recovery is more locked down on this update.
I also did factory reset after update. So not sure why it would do that every time booting into recovery.
for last week battery been dropping fairly quickly to about 40%, then stopping abruptly. Got the update last night. After almost 12 hours on battery, it is still at 88%.
My battery wasn't doing very well until I disabled fast charging and charged regularly. But have always noticed that even on kitkat

I rooted using a custom script someone made in the att thread. It fixed the cpu frequencie issues and adjusted each governor of the small and big clusters. So far so good with only minot hiccups once in a while. I haven't noticed much of a difference with the pg1 firmware if any. If you need help rooting check out the att forum or i can help when i get back home.
if we are already rooted on PD8, can we just flash this ontop of PD8 and retain root? What about user data?
I got this update on 2 S7's and on both of them, I now have cellular data issues. Wifi calling will keep giving me a notice that my phone is going to use wifi for calls when the feature is set to prefer Cellular for calls. Rebooting doesn't help, it will eventually say it again. I have to keep turning off wifi to force the message away. And during browsing on cellular, it drops a lot even though I know I have great coverage where I use it. With 2 phones, and only have this update, I think something is wrong with this firmware.

I haven't had any issues, everything works fine. Here go down till you find generic galaxy s7 after root process and flash the zip he made via Flashfire. See if that helps. Did you factory reset after rooting btw?
I am not rooted. I just saw this Firmware thread and figured this was a good place to talk about my issue related to this firmware. I will update my previous post to show no rooting. All stock.

I have now flashed this new firmware N915FYXXU1DPI3, it too early to tell if it resolves any of the issues of the previous firmware....

Okay since my last post and the new firmware has settled down it still does the same thing, random soft reboots, I also have an intermittent problem with bluetooth, it seems to loose where it's up to and then speeds the song up to catch up with what I think is the time stamp....also when using the camera app sometimes whe taking a photo the phone shuts down and I have to pull the battery to restart it.
Same problems....I am at the point of selling this phone now as it becoming unusable for me.
Whats also more annoying is recently I flashed my NOTE2 with a new Rom and my S4 with Nugget, both are way more responsive then the Note Edge
Feeling disillusioned...

I see your point, but since I have returned to 5.1.1 I am really happy with this phone. And with my old Note 10.1 LTE it was the same: No support, no updates, and after flashing a custom rom it is again my dayly driver for games, work and movies. Love the Note family although Samsung really works hard on destroiing their reputation on it. So, I will stay with my note and 5.1.1.
Thnx for testing!

Is this true? AT&T's OTA for the S7 (Flat) is the same version that I got from the unreleased 7.0 thread?
I bricked my phone trying to go back to PK1, AT&T is sending a warranty replacement but my Wife's phone has this update too. Had I known I wouldn't have even touched it!
So in other words I should be able to receive any future OTA updates right? I should just leave my wife's phone alone?
I appreciate any help.

Hi,
If you sideloaded QA4 (or any build) you must Odin back to APk1 and then you can take the att over the air update. Otherwise, it will always say that you are up to date when you check on your phone.
Read the posts in this discussion (although it is for S7 Edge)

If you have never updated other than using the att software update function on your phone then the Nougat 7.0 update should be available right now.

Hi,
If you sideloaded QA4 (or any build) you must Odin back to APk1 and then you can take the att over the air update. Otherwise, it will always say that you are up to date when you check on your phone.

Sorry meant PK1 (not APk1 since you don't have an Edge).

Thank you very much! I've got the files, hopefully I can unbrick my damn phone. I have the teal screen triangle of death (Download mode only) and boot loop when I try to get into recovery or just boot the phone normally when I tried to flash the wrong files...
Odin to the rescue hopefully.

I thought I was screwed, the members of this forum REALLY helped me out. You should have NO issues downgrading and installing the AT&T OTA 7.0 update.

[OREO] Oreo Beta on ANY USA/Snapdragon S8/+! [04/10/18]

Hello all - the Oreo beta is now officially over for all devices and unofficial beta devices may need to be manually migrated to the release branch:
Note: Your device will receive OTAs after this update.
Note: Please use Updato or SamMobile to acquire the latest firmware for your device if you use AT&T or Verizon, or use XAA for a clean, unlocked experience.
1. Use SamFirm to acquire the latest Oreo build for your device (if not AT&T or Verizon).
Enter SM-G950U/SM-G955U/SM-G955U1 depending on your model.
Enter your desired carrier code, or XAA for unlocked (common are TMO, SPR)
Select Auto, Check CRC32, and Decrypt Automatically.
Click Download
2. Once the download is done, extract the archive.
3. Use the patched Odin 3.13.1 from @realbbb. This is necessary for carrier-switching, including to unlocked/debranded/XAA.
4. It is safe to use HOME_CSC to preserve your data, but if you're switching to an unlocked build or switching carriers, you MUST use CSC (data will wipe).
5. You can also use CSC to wipe your data and get a fresh factory start.
Previous post:
Howdy - here's how to get Oreo!
OLD PROCESS FOR BETA 1-2 IS BELOW - Move on to Beta 4 below!
Credit to @norbarb for the leaked update!
Try at your own risk - this is for the brave
First, read this:
Code:
Since we don't have a flashable CSC for the unlocked firmware, your phone will be branded with whichever SIM you have inserted.
This means your unlocked S8+ will become a TMO S8+, for example. It all depends on the inserted SIM.
This is compatible with G955U/U1 and G950U/U1.
Warning: Back up your data! Your phone will be reset.
Step 1: Be on the AQGL baseband. Skip the below steps if you're already there.
You can do this by downloading your AQGL package and ODIN below. Extract the ZIP, open ODIN, and connect your phone in download mode.
Then, select (from the ZIP you just extracted) BL, AP, CP, and CSC (NOT home csc) in their respective slots. Don't change any other options. Select Start.
After this is done, your device will boot into recovery.
Tip: If you're getting verification errors in ADB, you likely don't have the latest version installed.
NEXT!
Step 2: Flash the Oreo update package:
Download the Oreo update package below.
Connect your phone to your computer while it is in recovery.
You must have ADB installed. Open command prompt or terminal.
Sideload the package by typing "adb sideload XXXXXX".
You may see multiple errors/warnings. Ignore them.
DO NOT touch or unplug the device until it reboots on its OWN!
Last step
Open your device, and perform a factory data reset. This is mandatory.
New! - Update your Google Play Services to v940. Thanks @Dudash
Code:
As always, anything you from XDA is done at your own risk! There's a chance that someone got something wrong, and you could mess up your device! Please - if you want to be safer, wait until a bunch of people have tried a given ROM/procedure/tool before you try yourself!
There's a bit too much instability for the moment in the update schedule. Once the correct build is confirmed as Beta 4, I'll update the OP to the new method.
Thanks for sticking around, guys!

Hi all, here's the new process for beta build installation:
1. Install BQK5 (Nougat)
2. Install Oreo
That's all, and here's how:
[1.] Odin to BQK5. This will wipe your data. You must do this no matter what software you're currently on.
Select CSC_OYN, not HOME_CSC.
Important: This update contains bootloader 2, which means that you can no longer install any updates based on bootloader 1 (i.e., AQJC).
All new updates are based on B2, so you'll need to eventually do this anyway.

No, that shouldn't be a problem. The device will brand itself as Verizon upon first boot after the install.

Update. Sideload didn't work. I got to go via apply from SD card. It is doing its thing now. Will let you know how it went.
Works like a charm. Excellent. Only thing I did different was apply via SD card. For some reason it wouldn't read it on my computer to push it adb. Said failed to read. So I installed it on a SD card and installed that way. It all checks out. All signed and certified.
Thank you for posting this but I have some noob's questions:
1) Will I still receive OTA updates?
2) What does changing the baseband does for me? Anything significant will change?
3) Can I go back to nougat if I want?
4) Upgrading to oreo like this shouldn't trip knox right? Because it official...
Thanks!

Question one, I checked for updates and it still says it can check for them. So I believe that is a yes.
2. Depends on your baseband you have and carrier. Aqgl is the lastest baseband for Sprint phones I know for sure. So the new one is the Oreo one being a completely different version.
3. Only way to revert is data reset. Wipe the whole phone and take it back to the way you got it.
4. Knox and all the stuff still works. Samsung pay and all that. So Knox doesn't get tripped.
I have found so far everything I use works fine or better than before. Substratum is working flawlessly along side samsung themes. I can't stand their keyboard so I ditched that. Camera is way better. Setting are more open with way more options. I don't see a downside. I turned off my other s8 that is rooted to use this as my daily driver.

1) While it appears to "check for updates", you will not get updates. We all will have to wait for a developer to load the next version files for us, again.
3) A factory reset WILL NOT REVERT YOU TO NOUGAT. You will need to download and flash via Odin the appropriate .zip file.

@dmezh,
Thanks for bringing this over from the AT&T thread. I've been on this for a couple of days now, an it has been flawless for me. Zero issues. It's my daily driver now.
And I want to emphasize to all users, the importance of your instructions regarding factory reset: on a major system update like this you have a big risk of system conflicts resulting in issues if you choose not to. It's a lot less work in the long run to just bite the bullet and do it now.

Thank you! Please, friends, save yourself the pain later on. Factory reset.
Hello, I am currently on Sprint, latest official version(which is august patch, AQGL), so I should flash straight from Odin the Unlocked firmware and then sideload Oreo OTA?

You won't get any updates unless you manually flash them, or revert back to stock.

Since you are already on AQGL, you should be good to directly sideload the Oreo zip.
