Question in wrong place

hi guys. need some assistance. i currently have an arc s rooted, BL locked, no roms, currently .42. i had my PC companion updated and it suddenly showed me an update for .69. my question is, if i proceed with the update, will i lose root on my phone? if yes, can i still root my phone once its already on .69? won't i have any issue once the official ICS is out and i update it while im on .69 or .62 will be better? sorry for too many questions. just don't want to brick my phone by doing unnecessary updates. please advise. thanks!
You lose your root if you use pc companion to update.
If you update with OTA method root stays.

No root available for.62 or.69(this for Germany legal issues overgmail) unless you have UNlocked bootloader,if you have unlocked bootloader do not update over the air it will brick your phone.
If bootloader is locked then use flash tools to down grade to.42 then root then update over the air to.62/.69 which ever your device gives you this way you wont lose root.
Hope this helps

If bootloader is locked then you can update ota and you wont lose root,
From what I understand there is no big difference between .42 and .62/.69

you could flash 42 root this, update over the air to 62, than flash only the baseband to 69 root will still!

If you want .62 then you can do OTA update like i said.
You will keep your root that way.

ota while rooted

In my notifications there is a new system update that it wants me to download that I can't get rid of. I am rooted using the motochopper method and was wondering if I can accept this ota? Will it brick my phone? Will it unroot me? Not a big deal to me if it unroots, just need to know what will happen
I guess u wont be able to update since u have already rooted that makes a device custom only official device software firmware can be updated
U can give it a try

You can update via the Kies software, but you'll need to re-root after

From my experience, if you root your phone, and do NOT flash a new rom, then you will receive OTA updates, but unless you enable OTA survival, you will lose root after an OTA upgrade.
If you want OTA updates, root the stock rom without installing a new rom.
Also can someone tell me if I install stock rom with odin,I will be able to receive updates?.Ive knox 0×1

I forgot about that....you do need the stock recovery. I have done an OTA on my S4 with root though... you just can't have a custom recovery.

Ota Updates are only factory to be able to install the 3e recovery rooted or non-rooted.
Just make sure your system status is official not custom , u can modify that through wanam xposed
And if you firmware is not the same original region , go to /efs/imei/mps_code.dat , and change it to the current firmware region

It isn't stock binary status that is needed, but the stock 3e recovery is. Custom recoveries do not have the ability to do an OTA upgrade.
