[Q] Help Please , updating SM-N910H to lollipop - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone , I Need some help about my galaxy note 4 . im from Iraq and i currently run 4.4.4 unrooted .. I want to root my phone but at the same time i'm dying for my lollipop update to arrive ! .. I have a couple of questions to ask
1 - what happens if I update my phone to another region's update ? but same model number .. as i'm seeing on Sammobile the updates for uzbakistan and ukraine etc are already there and for the same n910h model .. what happens if I used one of those to update my phone ?
2- how can I update to lollipop if I rooted my phone just now ? I read that I can update it via odin or kies once the update is out .. does that have any disadvantages to my phone ? so can I just root my phone , unroot when updates are out and then root again ?
thank you in advance .

As long as same model. Number its fine region has nothing to. Do. With it
If you are rooted you have to flash via odin only

so if i downloaded the Ukraine version on Sammobile and flashed it through odin I don't need to be worried about baseband version ? or CNC or whatever ? and in the future say 5.1 is released for Iraq , can I flash my region's rom back again ? .. If I just rooted now and waited for my region's lollipop to come out .. when I flash it via odin and lose my root .. will i lose my root data also ? like xposed etc ..?? Or I have to just root back again with cf auto root ? thanks in advance

If rooted you have to flash via odin then if you want root again
You cant have ota if rooted

And you can worry about nothing as long as same model number

[Q] What order to upgrade, root, recovery ...

Hello ..
I am getting my Grand 2 today.
I am familiar with flashing, rooting, backing up, etc ..
I have done this all before with my Galaxy S3 ..
but, its been awhile ..
so, I have a few questions about the order in which to do things.
Here is to order I am planning on doing things .. is this correct?
I think my Grand 2 will have Android 4.3 out of the box. so ..
1st ... I will upgrade to 4.4 via Kies
2nd ... I will root using Odin .. and the CF method
3rd ... I will load SuperUser and BusyBox from the Play store
4rth ... I will flash CWM
(can I just get this from Play store? I have purchased the touch recovery previously and am used to the layout)
5th ... I will back up the Stock 4.4 Rom ..
and that's it ..
Is this the correct order to do things?
Should I make a recovery using the Stock Recovery before I root?
Or should I (can I) download CWM from the Play store and then make a recovery image? ..
Thank You for your help ..
I know all this is covered in various threads through out this forum ..
and I have read/bookmarked them all .. but, want to just verify that I am on the right track
THANK YOU
Before everything Have the firmware downloaded ! If u have the firmware in ur hands and if u know how to flash it then u don't need to worry abt anything and unlike s3 grand 2 doesn't have Flash counters

First of all as Sanjuujosephh said you should download a firmware and then if you are rooting with CF root then there is no need to download supersu from play store . You can't get CWM from play store coz it is not available officially here's a link to unofficial CWM

No this only works for phones which have official CWM recovery our phone doesn't have any ...and again i recommend downloading a firmware if you live in india then here's the link to latest firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/general/stock-firmware-grand-2-google-drive-t2849501
And if you don't then you can request your firmware here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/general/request-firmware-t2884198
Edit :- these are links for resumable download you can download them from www.sammobile.com
I did not know about the "official/unofficial" CWM issue.
Many people recommend Philz Recovery instead ..
can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct zip for Philz?
I found a link for Philz recovery for 4.3 ...
would that work for 4.4?
My country is not listed on the SamMobile site ..
I am off to get the phone now ..
I will check the PDA and CSC versions when I get the phone . .
hopefully I will find a match ..
also .. I see some of the versions are listed .. 4.2.2, 4.4.2, 4.4.4 ... etc ..
I am assuming I will need to use the correct version as well ?
...
Unfortunately I don't know about philz recovery coz i haven't used it personally but if you want then..Here's the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53747111&postcount=3
And the latest version is 4.4.2 and build NH6 (in INDIA ) i can't tell about your country bcoz you still haven't mentioned it...

Baseband G7102DXUBNH1
Build Number KOT49H.G7102XWUBNH1
On the CF root files I see different versions NH1, NG4, NH6 ...

I believe it is in need of repartition. Some partition from the Rom you're trying to install exceeds current partition size.
So either find the correct update for your region (which I strongly advise) Either try it by ticking repartition( do it your own risk) which is not advisable as you might end up bricking the phone.
You need a pit file for repartition.

The best solution for you is to initialize your phone using Kies 3... However, this requires a running phone, not a bootlooping one... Use a firmware that works with you first!
Install it, connect your phone and do the initialization from the firmware menu... This should install the latest available firmware to your device while cleaning up the whole mess....
Good luck

I try OTA update .... try KIES ... ODIN .....
always the same scenario .... after flash phone restarted ... I get the first screen with Samsung logo ... after its boot to odin with red message cant do normal boot... and don't let me to recovery (volume up+home) only to download (volume down+home)

Send it to Samsung... They definitely know how to put Kitkat on your device!
Are u sure you are downloading right firmware for your device since there are few variants around here, and mayb kitkat is not released for your variant ...
As i can see on samsung update page there is only one 4.4.4 for your device variant (s3ve3gUB)
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300I
It is : I9300IUBUBNJ1 ,so try flashing that one

I am working on the same exact phone and I have having a hard time finding the right firmware for this phone.
It is stuck on recovery. I get a could not do normal boot and back to recovery. So I was planning on flashing a stock rom to get it out of recovery. Every how to page talks about going into setting to find your firmware version. This makes it hard when you cannot get into phone settings.
If you ever find the right Rom for this type of phone Please reply. Every rom site I have visited does not have the correct one.
This is most probably a hardware issue. Something on the main board got fried or some other glitch took place in a hardware component. Send it to Samsung for a repair or better buy a new phone.
---------- Post added at 12:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 PM ----------
Another idea is to use Smart Switch. You don't need a running phone this time. Just choose the firmware initialization option and enter your device model and serial number, and you're good to go. If this didn't work, send it to Samsung or give it a goodbye kiss.

did you make a so called pit backup.... if not then you cannot. this is a major issue for most of us. even on 4.4.2 you cannot flash 4.3 via odin or any method without tripping knox( means warranty void, for info search knox 0x1 )..... you cannot downgrade to kitkat now. so wait for official android l update. i will check and post whether u can root this firmware and make it more stable or not..... and one more thing because u flashed a leaked rom u will not get over the air updates or from kies.... u have to flash only official update of android l.
PLEASE PRESS THANKS BUTTON IF MY REPLY HELPED.... YOU MAY SEPARATELY CONTACT ME VIA GMAIL FOR DETAILED HELP.

In my reply i state that u cannot downgrade without tripping knox..... So im talking about flashing custom roms not official stock firmware flash via odin
you clearly say that is possible to downgrade a n9005 to 4.3 if we don't care about knox then !
that is great new !
can you tell more please ?

galaxy j500h 5.1.1 downgrade problem

okay so i have this lil problem on my galaxy j5
a few months ago ive found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/how-to/tutorial-upgrade-j5-2015-to-6-0-t3443904 so i tried to upgrade my phone to android 6.0.1(firmware: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=D2F21816700B11E69B2DFA163EE8F90B) and it works perfectly fine tho
but im trying to downgrade to 5.1.1 coz i cant install any custom mods and kernels so i tried to flash a android 5.1.1 firmware(http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=F33B6BD4400411E6815B0CC47A44B7B2) which it gave me bootloops
i tried to re-flash it to android 6.0.1 firmware i recently downloaded. it works and it starts up ok but it says that the system is not running and it should be factory reset--something like that. so ive factory reset my phone and again..it gave me bootloops
fortunately ive recently did some twrp backup and good thing it worked fine. but the problem is that the recovery didnt backup my phone password(which im stucked rn bcoz i cant type my main phone password)
im preety stuck here and if i factory reset again it still gives me bootloops
pls bear with me if you dont really understand my problem(im not that fluent in english)

I dont own that device, but i thing this would work:
Flash latest 6.0 firmware with samsung smart swich (PC), enable oem unlock in settings, flash twrp for 6.0 with latest odin, do a factory reset and a full wipe (except external sd an android secure). Then download latest 5.1 firmware for your device an flash it with odin (it will take some time).

Hai bro,,,
u try this one after flashing offical firmware simply reboot your device into recovery mode by pressing Power + Home + Volume UP and do a wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partitions then reboot your device, it will start properly and all problems are now solved,,,,,

With the J500H, Samsung decided to lock the bootloader, meaning you can't downgrade. J500h seems to be the only locked device. Unless someone finds a way to unlock the bootloader then you are stuck on 6.0.1.

u can show me. how to flash with odin (
Firmware downgrade Samsung J500H from MarshMallow with the second loader to LP.
Those who are faced with the inability to roll back to version 5.1.1 are uncomfortable with using their phone.
We need to either use the Philippine firmware or install a custom firmware Belousova.
I found an acceptable way to flash my phone with a stock firmware.
For rollback, we need a four-file stock firmware J500HXXU1APA5 or J500HXXS1APE1.
File BL with the second loader BL_J500HXXU1APA5_CL958143_QB8363487_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar or BL_J500HXXS1APE1_CL1011281_QB9453563_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar .
Odin.exe.
Please note: these files for the regions: CAC, CAU, SEK, SER, SKZ.
In other regions, wi-fi or a radio module may not work.
For other regions, you need another file for a specific firmware.
If you need another region, write me the name of your firmware.
The process of the firmware I will not describe, it is well known.

You can see video here.

First update to MM have the some botloader like LP. But next update have other bootloader and you can't boot LP with odin to your telephon.
10:32 And some more - Philippines firmware LP 5.1.1 have second bootloader. You can downgrade from last update MM to LP 5.1.1 very easy.

I found how I can help for you.
You may download firmware from here :"goo.gl/Yk1Byz" and unzip and flash in odin this firmware.
Then if some hardware not working you may download firmware for your region from here:"goo.gl/SdcwhA"
and unzip repeat the flash with odin but with one file firmware.
And If you don't update your telephon to MM you can flash telephon using only this stock firmware. Save it. First file you can delete.
I am sorry - in first step you may set BL for APE1 file from my blog . It have second bootloader for firmware.

J500f (TGY) NO MARSHMALLOW Update

Hi guys my phone j500f (TGY) modele has no update to 6.0.1 .
So my qiestion is how to change csc to (INS) to get marshmallow update.
I already tried flashing another multi csc rom with odin, if failed with : Fail! ( Size!)
Thank you.
Flashing firmware from different region/carrier via Odin should work as long as its the same model which is SM-J500F. There's no need to change your csc. You can choose firmware from any region/carrier from this link: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=SM-J500F&rpp=15&order=date&dir=desc&exact=1

If none of the firmwares worked, it could be that your bootloader is locked or it doesn't support marshmallow since there's no marshmallow update for your region.

As I said before, it could be that Samsung (or your carrier) decided to lock the bootloader for your region to prevent you to upgrade to marshmallow, I'm not sure why they did that tho. Just like what they did to J500H, they locked the bootloader for marshmallow so anyone who upgraded their device to marshmallow cannot downgrade again to lollipop anymore.
