5.0 vs 4.4.4 - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was running Rick's ROM for a few months and seems to be doing everything well enough for me but I tried Lollipop and didn't like it because of a few issues one of which being the alarm not working on mute so I went back to Rick's Rom for a few more weeks until the OC4 came out. I'm on it right now and dealing with the muting issues with setting it to vibrate and knocking down notification vibrations to zero and it works. But, I'm not seeing what the big deal if the Lollipop is. Questions for those who are more savvy than I am: What does really Lollipop do that KitKat doesn't do for us? I just have not seen anything that really stands out. My battery lasts about the same, the sounds is the same, screen is the same, reception is about the same so what's the advantage for the S5? I just don't get it?

Lollipop adds material design, new recent apps, new security features, ART which (should) be faster, and the new notification settings. Also, there are roms based on the international OB7 and OC7 that you can download that work the verizon s5 and bring back the old notifications with alarms on mute and such.

Any ROM you have tried that would give me the mute function that would give me the Lollipop benefits? I thought the International ROM didn't have HD voice, though? What's the difference between the OB7 and OC7? I tried Googling it and I can't find anything. Thanks for your help. I'm on this right now.

Yes, they all the ob7 or oc7 ones are lollipop based and they have all lollipop features in samsung roms and bring the mute feature back. They don't have hd voice, although that doesn't affect me. The only difference is bug fixes between the two.

[Q] Cleanest stock tmobile rom with wifi calling

So I'm getting my Defy back from Motorola RMA... and miss it's wifi-calling feature. Since it seems like there's not going to be a lot of luck on cm7 getting wifi-calling fixed, I'm trying to figure out which "custom" rom is the highest-performance, deblurred rom that's based on the stock ROMs so wifi-calling works? I noticed that there's a rom from jboogie3, but I can't seem to tell if wifi-calling works on it or not.
Someone was supposedly working on a vanilla ROM based on the tmobile froyo release, but I would assume that it's already on the back-burner since everyone is focused on gingerbread? I'm running cm7.1 on my nexus one during the repair, but I don't really find that much extra stuff going on in gingerbread that froyo didn't do.
Any recommendations?

Wifi calling is a must for me and this rom works nicely, it has blur but its not required, you can always use root uninstaller to uninstall all apps including the system ones. Adlxmod rocks for tmobile us users.
I'll check it out. Have you used this and compared against the jboogie ROM? I tried to go through the FAQ to find the list of apps to rename to remove all traces of blur... Do you have a list yourself?
I am currently using it, no issues at all. You can see my screenshots in the link i posted. I haven't used the one from jboggie. I dont have the list of apps i like the feature the feature that links your contact photos with facebook so im keeping blur for now, its not required to login to start the phone and as long you dont have the widgets you wont even tell its there

Problem with quicksettings and toggles

Good day all!
I've been searching around and have been able to find a reason or solution to my problem and I'm wondering if I did something wrong. I have an AT&T S4 (i337) that I have unlocked and rooted and installed the i9505g 4.3 version. I really love the stock Google experience and was really into it until I noticed that in the menu I seem to be missing interface controls under the settings menu to add toggles to the quick settings. I haven't been able to determine if that's something I did wrong during installing the rom or I simply can't turn things like auto-rotate off on a stock google rom, though it seems very silly to me.
I was using a Task650 rom on the GS3 and I really liked it so I attempted to install an SGH-i337 Task650 rom on my phone, which works great and I get access to edit the toggles but the S-view case doesn't work on that rom since it isn't based on the stock google kernel for the i9505. I was wondering if someone could help point out my mistake on this one, or if we really don't have those toggle options and need to rely on 3rd party solution.
Cheers!

Unofficial CarbonROM Discussion Thread (1/31)

Not sure if this is in the right place/appropriate, but I noticed that the unofficial CarbonROM thread has been closed. Seeing as how Carbon recently released their first batch of KK nightlies, I figured that it would be good to have a place for bug reports, thoughts on stability, etc, at least until an official ROM thread is opened. Sort of like what is being done with PA4, although that is a bit more official than this. I have the LS980, for what it's worth(which is why I have stuff on that, I can't confirm other variants). :good:
Reported Bugs:
D800
D801
Call Echo present as of 1/30
D802
LS980
Immersive QS tile does not work(Enable through "Expanded Desktop")
VS980
Downloads: http://carbon-rom.com/downloads/
Gerrit: http://review.carbon-rom.com/#/q/status:merged,n,z
Official Changelog(Google Doc): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Zcp6iVWVw_7iH-ErnKgkYy3r5QuqV8PHFoQMb8hoBwQ/edit
MMS/Voice over LTE fixed in 1/31. Also Immersive mode isn't broken, it is labeled as "Expanded Desktop," but all references to Immersive mode(QS tile and such) do nothing.
D801 - Great ROM only issue is the Echo on other end for person you are calling on original nightly. I have not checked 1/31 as of yet. Can't wait for the Echo to be gone...
This is the correct place for this thread.
Is Pie on this ROM or some version? I ran Carbon on my Rezound and loved it.

From what I understand, Carbon is waiting for the Paranoid Android Team to release the new KitKat PIE before they merge it. It may be in the old 4.3 builds though(It was on manta at least).
Couple things.
1. Someone on G+ said call echo is there on LS980. I have not been able to replicate the issue. Anybody else?
2. I seem to have Launcher3, rather than the "true" GEL. It is the same, except for GNow functionality(swipe to left to access, namely) is absent. Could be the Gapps package, I'll have to test further.
3. Anyone else unable to download today's nightly? For LS980 2/01, I keep getting bad downloads with md5 mismatches. I tried on my home Wifi and LTE, both have the same issue.
All in all, amazing. I'd like to see some more custimization options, and Halo, but all in due time I suppose. ART also works very well.

GEL (Launcher) is dependent on the gapps package. Always has been. Always will be.
On another note, this is the first time I've used Carbon. Very smooth. There are a few things that I've noticed that are "missing". I realize that they may be that way intentionally or not yet implemented. I see that you can't add custom widgets to the lockscreen. The other item is quick reply for text messages. If that's how things have always been, then that's cool.
I've also seen some buggy behavior with active display, but I'll report on that later with logs.

Checking into see if anyone knows if the other end caller ECHO is gone or ? I can't hear it , the party you are calling hears the Echo. This is for the D801 if anyone knows by chance, I just downloaded the latest yet wanted to check prior.
TIA
Running on my vs980, no issues to report. Immersive mode works as advertised, as long as you have it enabled in the carbon fibres. Then the toggle works.

Can someone say me if carbon roms have to posibility to turn off expanded mode temporarely if I am on the lock screen?
So on lock screen - statusbar
device unlocked - no statusbar
just like in RR for example.
Thanks in advance

[Q] is there a way to disable knock on feature in KitKat ROMs?

I keep looking for a way to disable the knock on feature with KitKat based ROMs, but haven't found a way yet. I'm running SlimKat on a LS980 right now, but none of the other ROMs have had the option to disable the knock on feature.
It is great to have until I try running with the phone or using it to do manual work while listening to music. It keeps changing songs, opening websites from Google now, rearranging my home screen apps, and sometimes managing to call people.
Does any one know a easy way (or stable ROM) to have the ability to deactivate knock on? I'd love to be able to turn it on and off easily like WiFi or Bluetooth so when I need the feature I can have it, but when I don't it isn't a pain.

you should specify you want a solution for aosp based kitkat because on stock(the lg themed one that came with the phone) you can go to settings>gestures and turn it off/if the proximity sensor is covered it doesn't allow knock on to work to prevent it from unlocking while in pockets and stuff
BUMP!
I'd like to know as well! The screen keeps coming on while in my pocket. What file/code/apk/ect is responsible for Knock-On?
I'm running AOSP C-ROM 7.1.

It is mainly kernel which is in charge of knock on so unless you know how to create kernel there isn't much you can do
Sent from my PIKACHU powered LG G2 D800
Access the hidden menu on your phone and disable knock on
EDIT: that would be for stock lg rom, but you could still try with your aosp kk rom

HOW TO remove heads up on paranoid kitkat 4.4??

hi,
I bought this phone from one week and there was already the paranoid ROM based on android 4.4.
The Rom works very well no lags etc. just the camera quality seems not too good (a lot of noise).
Anyway my problem is the "heads up notifications" like in lollipop... i get this kind of notification on whatsapp, calls, and specially every time that i launch the keyboard.. i hate this notifications! :crying:
There is a way for delete these notifications?
Thanks
