[Q] is there a way to disable knock on feature in KitKat ROMs? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep looking for a way to disable the knock on feature with KitKat based ROMs, but haven't found a way yet. I'm running SlimKat on a LS980 right now, but none of the other ROMs have had the option to disable the knock on feature.
It is great to have until I try running with the phone or using it to do manual work while listening to music. It keeps changing songs, opening websites from Google now, rearranging my home screen apps, and sometimes managing to call people.
Does any one know a easy way (or stable ROM) to have the ability to deactivate knock on? I'd love to be able to turn it on and off easily like WiFi or Bluetooth so when I need the feature I can have it, but when I don't it isn't a pain.

you should specify you want a solution for aosp based kitkat because on stock(the lg themed one that came with the phone) you can go to settings>gestures and turn it off/if the proximity sensor is covered it doesn't allow knock on to work to prevent it from unlocking while in pockets and stuff

BUMP!
I'd like to know as well! The screen keeps coming on while in my pocket. What file/code/apk/ect is responsible for Knock-On?
I'm running AOSP C-ROM 7.1.

It is mainly kernel which is in charge of knock on so unless you know how to create kernel there isn't much you can do
Sent from my PIKACHU powered LG G2 D800

Access the hidden menu on your phone and disable knock on
EDIT: that would be for stock lg rom, but you could still try with your aosp kk rom

[Q] Why use CM 10.1 on Nexus 4 over stock rom?

I have stock, up-to-date Android 4.2.2.
I am trying to figure out why use CM10.1 or any other custom ROM over up-to-date stock Android Rom.
Well, for me I use stock and faux kernel @1.9ghz and I'm fine with it
Custom Roms add more features thou, I used to run aokp on my n7 but I prefer stock
Sent from my Nexus 4 @1.944 GHz on Stock 4.2.2
Mainly for the customization, and certain features not found in stock roms.
It's an user preference really.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
thank you for the responses.
Like the idea of faux kernel with Stock rom.
Also for some more optimization, and little fixes of things that Google f**ked up in their stock Android

Here are the main features that are interesting to me:
- Built-in notification light control
- SMS bonus features (quick reply, original timestamps, etc)
- Volume rocker wake
- Navring (2 other shortcuts besides google now)
- Their cLock widget is nice
- Editable toggles / quick settings + quick pulldown (pulldown from right goes directly into toggles) LOVE IT
- Torch built in..
Downsides:
- The slide up animation of google now is not as smooth and sexy
- Old calendar app (WHY U NO REMOVE IT, it's on the play store!!) though it's practically the same

The source for the Play version isn't open though, so they build from the source that is available (i.e. the current CM calendar) and I their ultimate goal is to include what you need to operate a smart phone without absolutely requiring the addition of Gapps; although 99.999% of people ultimately do.

Yea probably the same reason why there is the "stock/modded" ICS browser (I know some people prefer it). They don't want preinstalled store apps in the rom, and such things as browser and calendar are basic features expected cooked in a ROM. PA does that though and it works well I think with no legal issue.
After trying several roms,I can say the top feature of nexus is the stock android and being uptodate instantaneous ,
So why you install a custom rom ? Sure it will not be stable as stock.
Customization can be dne through apk,I use
Exdialer.
Nova launcher
Sliding messages.
Tasker
Active screen lock , sometimes
Proximity screen off
Power toggle

Finding the right ROM for me

so what i really like in my stock 4.4.2 is the knock on /off and I tried CM 10.2 but sadly I noticed I dont have knock off...
I want a simple rom...I like how nexus clean version of android looks and feels..I want a minimalistic rom...
I really liked the option in the oneplus one to drow a pattern when the screen is of and activate a certian app if theres a rom wich include it ill like to hear(I guess maybe CM 11 but I havent tried it yet becuse its still in nightly version)
I have a VS980, and I have flashed most of the ROMs available in the dev section for it. I don't believe that any AOSP-based ROM is going to have knock-off, so you would have to use one of the stock based (such as Malladus or XDABBEB). These in general aren't going to have minimalist look of AOSP based ROMs though.
Your other choice is to run an AOSP ROM with Xposed. I know that the Xposed GEL Settings module has an option to set double-tap to an action, though that may be a premium feature you have to donate to receive (which I recommend anyway, as it is an amazing module).

Paranoid Android has knock on + knock off (you have to use the notification bar; doesn't work anywhere else as far as I know).

yeah but i dont want to reach every time...and it wont be comftrable while driving for example
Another option, if you're OK with using a launcher other than the GEL, is to install the Apex launcher. I believe it gives you desktop knock off in its free version.
Using this launcher, you can use any ROM you'd like, as long as it provides knock on. I think most ROMs for the G2 provide that.

I think you should search for voice controlled apps and such. I don't know if Google Voice can help you.

[Q] Dialer App On AOSP/CM ROMs

Hey guys!
Does anybody have any idea why only the TW/Stock dialer works on my phone despite trying multiple AOSP/CM ROMs, kernels, PRL/Firmwares, and recoveries? I'm having tons of trouble finding others with this problem. The CM-style dialers all glitch and will not allow the input of keys from the phone/dialer app and will on some roms black the screen out completely despite my using the home button to minimize the app. In a few ROMs I've had to hard reboot the phone to get it out of the call screen. In others, only the dialer/phone app itself freezes up and the screen glitches with mild to moderate system ui problems.
Anybody? Or maybe I could provide some more info to anyone who has questions that we might figure out what the dilly is, here?
Dirty flashing? I don't know why you're having this issue but I have had issues in some roms where the aosp dialer come up blank with no digits.
What I did was search for blacked out dialer apks. Grabbed one for aosp and one for TW. Each time I go to a new rom I just overwrite the dialer apk, change permission reboot and good to go. Maybe that could be of some help maybe not. Just an idea and good luck

Thanks. Yeah, it's hard to explain exactly what happens, but it's not involving the omission of digits or lack of recognition. It's on all non-TW ROMs and causes the phone to totally wig out and the screen blinks on and off, sometimes locking the phone, sometimes not. It never used to do it before, and I suspect . It works great for every other aspect of the ROMS other than the dialer/phone app. It's not so simple at all that I can use one of those fine ROMS and just uninstall the CM dialer and install the TW version, is it?

I don't think that would work. You'd need aosp dialer on AOSP and TW dialer on TW. There's other apks and libraries involved. But you can always cherry pick apks from other 'like' roms that you know work fine. I just play around till something sticks, I break more than I fix but that's why we make backups.

To fix the dialer app not sending or receiving calls and getting stuck after call hang up.
You gotta use the method at the below link to fix this issue. I like AOSP over touchwhiz roms so i am so glad this xda member came up with this solution for us.

[Q] Open/close of cover on Cyanogen Based roms.

[Q] As above peeps. Im currently running a Samsung based rom and the open close of the cover kills the screen....but not on the AOSP based roms....is there an app for this or is there some functionality in the aosp rom that I can use to switch this on - if I can then id rather go the aosp route.
Cheers to anyone that chips in.
I'm using cm11 snapshot m11, device turn on/off works fine with s-view cover. You can also install hal monitor if you want more features..

OOS or Pure Fusion, or another?

Hi, I've bought my OP5 a couple of weeks ago and I'm looking for a ROM with a little bit of more customizability but still being google stock like. One of my major peeves with OOS is the DND mode, it can't be scheduled and media isn't silenced, so I'd like a ROM where I can change that, also proximity wake.
I was thinking about Pure Fusion, what do you think? How's the battery? Bugs? Stability?
All comparing to OOS of course, I want something better. Not really looking to theme my phone or anything.
If you have another suggestions, they are most welcome!
Thanks!
I'm on Pure Fusion and it's my favourite ROM by far. It offers more customization than OOS and I haven't experienced any bugs (yet). My device did reboot randomly once but I don't know if it was ROM related or maybe an app.
As for the whole DND thing, I unfortunately do not know because I use the app Tasker to automate all my DND/Ringer/Vibrate mode settings. I think there is some DND configuration though, but don't quote me on that.
You will get a pretty stock feel with it as well, as it is an AOSP ROM and if you ever do decide to theme in the future, you will have full Substratum support!

Thank you for your answer! Could you check on the DND thing really quickly? Just put it on DND mode and check if the keyboard, for example, makes any sound when typing, or things like that. Or you can try locking/unlocking your device, see if you hear the locking/unlocking sound. Also, see if it can turn itself on by setting an hour for example.
It would really mean a lot to me!
Oh, one more thing I REALLY hate about OOS, when listening to music through bluetooth, I can BARELY hear notification sounds, does that happen with Pure Fusion?
Thanks again!
