Galaxy note 4 battery consumption when using it - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've recently purchased a Note 4 and it was already updated to Lollipop (currently running N910FXXU1BOC3). I've owned a Galaxy S2 and a Note 3.
This Note 4 is a marvellous phone but is BY FAR the worst in terms of battery consumption when using it. I'm not sure if this is somewhat normal or my phone is defective but here are some examples.
- When I commute to work (about 45 mins door to door) I use the phone to listen music, browse on facebook, check email. Normal stuff. When I'm at the office after 45 mins I'm easily at 87/88% battery remaining. The Note 3 was probably in worst cases at 92% or even more.
- Filming a video (at an average resolution) for around 30 mins sucked probably 30% of my battery (I can't remember exactly) and the phone was very hot at the end.
- When browsing on internet or doing "standard" stuff, I can easily see the percentage going down by numbers. It's probably 1% every 2/3 mins.
- Right now I'm at 81% of battery: battery stats says about 12 hours remaining, 2h 51mins with battery.
- GSAM Battery monitor says an average duration of 13:56. Average values are duration 23h 34m (11h 35m active) and screen 3h 28m (4h 48m Max).
I'm quite experienced and I checked pretty much everything and I don't see drains. In fact the phone does keep a very good battery when it's not used [by the way, by the time I wrote 81% a two lines above, it's now at 80% just because I checked battery stats...how much, a couple of minutes?], there does not seem to be a battery drain issue. It's just sucking too much battery when using it.
Some info: location is almost always off, brightess is auto at just one step above the minimum, I use LLama to switch off wifi when not used, gmail and email are synched every few hours, facebook has no push notification active (as you see I'm quite conservative).
Do you think I have a defective model or it's normal?
thanks

Hi,
Have you tried remove the Google account, reboot the phone, add it back, reboot again?
I had the exact same problem as yours, and that little trick solved the problem.

Hi btoledob
I've done what you recommend and will check tomorrow how it goes. I trust you, even if I don't understand why an account could cause this usage...

May be there's something wrong with your unit. I get about 5 hours plus screen on time even after using the phone for like 20 hours. Usage includes mostly browsing and chatting on whatsapp.

Well, apart from GSAM I have no "battery monitor crap". I am a fairly experienced user: generally I root phones and used do install custom roms (but not - yet - on the note 4), I use Greenify, LLama and Tasker, Titanium with remote load of files...I am a computer programmer so I can say that I know this stuff. No bloatware should impact as I see stock rom phones with DOUBLE my SOT.
Your SCREAMED suggestion of reading the thread is accepted, but we're talking about 154 pages of the thread. Some people have been more useful suggesting to wipe cache (done, didn't help), to logoff/logon from Google (done, does not seem to have helped) and to wipe phone and start from scratch (NOT yet done, as I consider it as a last resource given the time it takes to reinstall everything, reconfigure stuff and so on).
I am now at 10h 27m 35s with battery with 52% (estimated 11 hours). SOT of 1h 44m. If we double that 1h 44 since we are at 52% of battery, I am still at 3h 30m. I've done mostly ordinary stuff with the phone (for example I have not used games or things like Waze who sucks battery a lot).
I think I'm going to make a call to the service center as seeing people with UP TO 11 hours make me think I have a defective unit or, worse, a defective battery.
thanks

Pretty much same problems here. Screen off at night for like 10 hours lost 12% of battery (wifi, sync, bluetooth or) And when I get things to do... I can't get more than 3 hours on screen... I tried everything possible without root and outside using battery saver, but at best 3 hours 30 minutes screen time.

if you analyze i could had more than just 5hrs SOT, but i was at work i just used my phone to text, i played Racing rivals, fb, ig, just the regular apps, instead of 1.5 day i could had 1 day and about 6+hr SOT, this phone is capable of this and much more, its just the software, but like i stated before i had done a couple of changes and these are the results, cheers

Wow.
First, an apology, I have not read that thread, my fault in thinking you were referring to another one, so my sincere apologies.
Secondarily, that thread talks about disabling services, and it can be done on rooted phones only. My phone is not rooted, and I see not rooted phones lasting twice my sot. So it's not mainly am issue with services (albeit I understand it may give you some extra juice).
However you can save the sarcasm for someone else: "get an iphone", "you don't belong to this community". Seriously, go and be this aggressive in real life, behind the screen is too easy, "bro".

[Q] I get about 4 hours of usage out of a full charge - how about you?

I have been on here a couple of times complaining about my lousy battery. Well, today I decided to see exactly how far I can take this thing before it conks out on me. Here are my results.
The phone up-time was just over 19 hours, with 14% battery left. (I took my results at 14% because I didn't want the phone turning off on me thus losing all data.) About 49% of the battery was used by the screen, which was on for a total of 3 hours and 20 minutes during this 19 hour period. The rest was split up among other activities, but the most notable/concerning area is 43 seconds of voice took up almost 2% of total battery usage.
I could probably pull out another half-hour or so usage before the phone's battery totally dies, so my final number is 4 hours of usage out of a full charge. This is total usage, i.e. the screen was on for 4 hours.
The phone was at lowest brightness all day except for 10-15 minutes where I had it on full 'cause I was using it outside. I am not using any CPU throttling apps, or such. Background is not fully black. I use one widget, rest are icons. I have Advanced Task Killer which I routinely use to kill tasks, but to be completely honest, unless there is a rouge task ATK does not increase battery life by much. Phone was on 3G primarily, although there were times during the day when I was on EDGE because of weak signal.
All in all, the battery on the Vibrant is pathetic for what it has (Super AMOLED, 45 nm, etc.) but I am glad I can at least last a day. Hopefully Samsung has addressed battery issues in Froyo.
Feel free to post your results on how long you can make your battery last below, so we can all get a better idea. Please do not post "my battery lasts XX days" - give details on your usage, like how I mentioned the battery was at 14% after 19 hours up-time, but actual usage was 3 hours and 20 minutes. Often times it seems like many people brag about how "great" their Vibrant's battery is, but really they rarely use the phone all day hence the "great" battery life.
I completely feel your pain. I had the same issues with my vibrant also. I personally do not believe it is the battery any more because after I applied the ryanza one click lag fix my battery life practically tripled. I kept a very close eye on my usage and settings for the first few weeks. I would get about 12 hours out of a full charge and I would barely use the phone. Frustrated me to no end because I would hear people say that 12 hours with a powerful phone like vibrant is expected. To me it was not acceptable.
I never changed any settings or installed any programs after doing the lag fix but it certainly had a drastic effect. Ill get more statistics when I get home, im at work right now.

but having the display on almost 4 hours....that's gonna suck the battery no matter what phone you have
mine has superb battery life. I am always confident it will get me pass the day and more. obviously, if I game and web a lot, it will drain faster. For my typical day, it's perfect. I went on to over 2 days with this charge. What an awesome battery!

Have to agree with this. I tried it out and got quite a boost. I didn't keep as good of details as the OP on my battery use but prior to juice defender a was struggling to make a day. Now a day is not a problem. My typical usage is probably pretty high, lots of internet, lots of tinkering right now plus working on morphs and things, I do keep my screen all the way down except when outside (rarely use my phone outdoors so not much of that), no widgets, no task killer. When I installed juice defender I used the stock settings with the exception of allowing gmail and chat to sync anytime. Juice defender says I'm getting an average of 1.7x the battery life. I think almost all of that comes from when the phone is asleep.
Edit. Checked on details.
Pulled my phone off the charger at 6 am it was at 100%. Used to to do some reading on my way to work (about 30min on the train) worked on some morphs, checked some emails, downloaded some stuff. I'm at 82% and it's 12:20.
Cell standby 39%
Display 33%
phone idle 23%
Various 5%
I use my phone for quite a bit during the day and pull about 13 hours before it starts blinking at me. I personally have zero problems with that amount of battery life from a device of such caliber. My best friend was complaining about her battery in her Vibrant and like I tell everyone else, it's probably some rogue app somewhere. She didn't believe me so we swapped batteries 3 days ago and I still get the same usage times out of her battery as I did mine and her battery life has improved significantly as well.
I don't know what is is that people are doing to get 4-5 hours but 13+ with average use (text, moderate browsing, syncing all day, screen at full brightness all day) is to be expected with this phone. I will post a screenshot of consistency over the course of this weekend to visualize my point.
Also I do not use a task killer of any kind except the Android built in one and I removed hers as well

You mean if you actually use the phone it will drain a lot faster. Your post is a perfect example of what I mean when I said people post very misleading results. For those ~40 hours that your Vibrant has been up, your display has only been on 1, maybe 2 hours (hence only 8% battery usage). Your result is not accurate at all - you aren't using the phone. Anyone can get great battery by letting it sits for hours on in.

Thanks I will look at Juice Defender, but I am not too sure what it will do to help improve my battery which I am not doing already. (I leave GPS off, WiFi off when im not using, have applied lagfix, etc.)
The Droid X is known to get 7-8 hours; and considering the Vibrant has power-friendly hardware, the Vibrant should be getting the same.

When you say 13+ hours, do you mean total up-time or total usage time? Because, as I mentioned in my post, my total up-time was ~19 hours, but usage was actually ~4.

Oh, and an FYI: I just called up T-Mobile and had them send me a new battery. FWIW, I am not being charged anything (not even shipping) and I don't have to send back my current battery. I love the retention department .
Can someone post up what they do/what settings they use for juice defender? I installed it but I really don't see how it could save me any more battery seeing that I keep wifi, gps, and all that off, plus my screen is on the lowest setting at all times
Hi all,
What I found out that works best for me is, no task killer, no juice defender, lowest display setting possible, and turning off 3g. 3g ready drains the battery. Task killers are pretty worthless. Do some research on that topic. Android kills programs all by itself. And task killers run in the background, using up battery. My phone is rooted, so I run autostarts to control what starts at boot. My uptime isn't great, but its adequate enough to last from morning to night. I do agee that the battery life when using the phone itself for voice calls is sub part at best. I do believe froyo will help with a lot of these problems. Just my 2¢.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
DON'T use task killer. Vibrant has really good system resource management. With task killers constantly killing core system processes, the phone has to use more power to keep restarting them.
You can read more about it here: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
And only turn on active sync for apps that you absolutely need to have them syncing all the time.
This should make your phone last for a whole day with decent usage. If you are still getting very short up time, you probably have a bad battery. Call T-Mo and ask for a replacement.
It all depends on usage. The first days when I got my Vibrant, I was downloading apps all day, or browsing websites, so the battery barely lasts for a day. I usually leave my phone plugged in to my laptop when going to sleep, and set the laptop to auto-shutdown in 4 hour, so the phone gets unplugged at about 4:30 am. With that heavy usage, I needed to recharge at about 7 pm.
However, now that I'm not playing with it that much, the battery life improves greatly. Now I usually do 10-20 text messages and about 30 minutes voice call everyday, also some browsing on the xda forum, and maybe reply several emails. The battery is usually at 40 percent at 10 pm. The only thing I can complain about is that with 40% battery left, I don't want to do a complete recharge, but it won't last the second day either.

It still will be hard to say why my battery life exceeds yours but you will at least be able to compare the two.

Reasonable battery life expectations after Rooting

So sorry for adding to the battery life threads, but I'm pretty frustrated.
I've seen people posting screen shots with 18 hours uptime, 7 hours wake time and 50% battery on custom roms. I've seen people getting about 24 hours on a single charge.
I've had my evo 2 weeks now, and I've tried about 3 different ROMS and 4 or 5 different Kernels all of which promised LONG battery life. I'm currently running BakedSnack 1.7 with Kernel #5. My phone has been on 10 hours, 2 hours of wake time and it has only 35% left. Couple of short phone calls, 10 mins Pandora and a bit of browsing and texting here and there. I was expecting more after rooting, yet it seems almost the same as it was before I rooted.
Am I expecting too much ?
I've gone through the full discharge/recharge cycle about 4 times so far. Bad battery perhaps ?
will the phone charge get you through a day say 10 hour work day ( includes travel time )
imho your expecting to much with 10 hours in to your charge and still have 35% left is pretty damn good imho
Baked Snacks is a great rom ! its no the battery check your TWS
Depends what you are doing, some things (3d games, flash) will drain the battery faster than others.
If you are at 10 hours and 2 hours awake with 35% left, thats not too bad. You should end up around 16-17 hours with 4 hours of awake time.
If you are talking on the phone, that will drain your battery the fastest.
Make sure you completely condition your battery as well (as many posts show)

It will make it through but usually by 5pm its around 30%. I almost have to make an effort to use it sparingly though. I really like the Baked Snack Rom, its very slick probably the best I've had so far. TWS was 3% today.

Have you tried SetCPU? I have stock rooted with SetCPU (Perflock Disabler ftw) and without a signal 13-25% of the time (meaning the phone is searching for a signal), I end a 10-12 hour work day with about 45-50% left. Underclocking to 250 while the screen off has helped a lot.
This seems to be a common concern. first please remember to take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to people reporting there battery times. There are just to many factors to say ok if you use this rom and this kernel you will get 20 hours of battery life. Also many of the people reporting battery life exaggerate. sure they may ahve gotten 50 hours between charges on stock battery... but they surely didn't have moderate use ... or any real use during that no matter what they claim.
from another post it seems the majority of people in that post (with everything tweaked calibrated and set up) were getting roughly 13-18 hours of battery life out of there phone with normal use. normal being defined by actually using your phone as a phone as well as using its other capabilities. So my feeling if you are a moderate user you should expect to fall into this area as a goal. Things to help would include setCPU, making sure you turn off data when you shut off screen (or getting a program to do so for you - juicedefender) and making sure you calibrate your battery and battery stats of your phone.
it seems like you are getting close to this range however you are having to watch your use to do so. as others have said the first thing i would do is get setCPU and set up a battery saving profile. read through some of the battery threads if you havent and look for setting changes that wont impact you tremendously but will help save battery (for example if you dont use landscape mode a lot you can turn off autorotation and save some battery). If you are using froyo and are running a task killer uninstall it since it doesnt work any way. While most settings will make a small impact together they should help get you to where you can use your phone moderately through out the day with out worries.

Don't get me wrong here, the thread wasn't about me complaining, more about setting my expectations.
2 Years ago I had the first Touch Pro which would be dead by 3pm regardless of usage. At one point I had 4 batteries. I got the Touch Pro 2 a year later and it could go 2-3 days on single charge with normal usage. It was like night and day.
Granted this is a much more powerful device than either of those, but I feel like I've taken a step backwards with the battery situation.

I tried out SetCPU but the phone was slugglish for me at times and once or twice I had to reboot.
I'm probably just gonna grab an extra battery and a desktop charger so I can charge one battery while the other is in use.

Thanks alot for those tips, I'll give SetCPU another go.
I haven't tried out Juice Defender but I'll look into that as well. Turning off Data when the screen is off might be just the thing I need!

BATTERY LIFE: Heavy Use Endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Note5's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
When using the Note5 heavily, I can get through an entire day...but barely. Like if phone comes off the charger at 7am and I beat the crap out of it with tons of use, it'll be at around 10% by 8 or 9pm. If I'm going out, I just put it on the fast charger and bam, I'm back up to 50% in like 30 minutes.
I'm getting 8hrs sot, with WiFi running continuous, but mobile data off,I'm moderate user, still my previous phone didn't last me a day,but thanks to this phone now I'm carefree about battery, well at least for me the quest for better battery ends

I just got the phone and am only getting from 7am to 1-2pm, then having to charge you guys must not browse the web a lot and use social media to much.
when you full charge with your note 5 100% what is the timing estimate usage hours
Dear All,
i want to know your phone when you full charge with your note 5 100% what is the timing estimate usage hours?
for me show 24hr8m.
would you help tell me about your phone it is the same or not.
Thanks

man this phone battery sucks, i use sometimes facebook, and have some news apps , some youtube, email, and bit of this and that
i charge it overnight and leave home at 8 am
and at 7 pm the phone battery is dead that is such a bad battery i wish to know how the people here praise its battery it really is bad
HI Man, it is as same as me
man today it ran out of battery so fast by 5pm it is dead, and i barely used it . Oh man i feel i did a huge mistake buying this phone
i tried factory restting it and still the same
this is so so so bad that i am so missing my iphone which was working great and had an amazing battery life
and add salt to the injury i ended up buying the sm-n920k which is the korean version and this has no rom support what so ever here on xda
i am so disappointed
For those of you that are having a lot of trouble getting through a day, I'd highly recommend this http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/guide-bloating-touchwizzing-note-5-t3184563 because I got at a minimum 150% of my original screen on time compared to when I just got the phone.
Guys i don y know what you re doing but my battery life is amazing. By far the best phone and battery money can buy at the moment. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63851201
I'm not sure what you people with terrible battery life are doing. I hardly used my phone today but it's still been on for a while. Switch to T-mobile and put some cool stuff on it. I am by no means an android expert, but the quest for battery life is how I discovered XDA.
My experience is different. With moderate use i drain about 12% an hour. Then again im on the moar rom with no bloatware running in back ground. But heck even with heavy use. I have yet to see the phone less than 50%.
i am not using my phone when i at work and now 16:15pm. unplugged at 07:00am. total 12,5 hours on. SOT is 1 hours and now phone at %37. Heavy AndroidSystem and AndroidOS battery drain. i tried to use my phone without root for one week but impossible. %5 per hour. Battery graphic is going down everytime!!! This is so stupid!! again i will root my phone and i will use custom kernel and again everything will be fine again.
1) samsung dont know how to code a good kernel
2) without root note 5 is worst multitasking phone with huge 4gb of ram
3) without root i cant even delete that never use and never wanted phones by me (facebook or instagram or other bull****s)
4) without root i cannot use my phone without lagfree( because i must disable or delete some useless apps that allways sits on my RAM!!)
5) i paying lots of money and for use a good phone i must forget my guarantie!!
Thanks a lot samsung! note 5 will be my last samsung phone
Actually we must talk about that! Thanks !!

I get very decent battery life, check this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/battery-life-discussion-t3178480
I currently have all of the bloatware running, as well. I used to use Package Disabler Pro, but no longer find that I need to use it for battery life. 99% of the time I am NOT using wifi either.
Things I have done (to the best of my memory):
1. Disabled VOLTE
2. Wifi calling
3. Turn off location history
4. Remove Android Device Manager as a Device Administrator
5. Screen brightness set pretty low, but I have it set to auto as well
Probably a couple of other things I missed, but I believe those optimizations have greatly improved battery life on my phone.
Hope this helps.

Any one has this problem after the latest update i have battery drian faster and my phone always has used more than 85% from ram.(Note5 SM_N920c)???
i would say this accounts for heavy use...a little bit of everything but.mostly youtube 1440p videos with almost full brightness...some facebook, browsing, games, etc...only wifi. from this point till i reach 5% i ll use only data to.simulate further heavy usage - so i ll update the info as soon as i reach 5% or so...
my config : darthstalker v5, skyhigh kernel 2.6 undervolted by around -100mv on almost everything, if you want i ll post links to the synapse settings from othe threads...and frequencies locked to a57 min @600 max @2400mhz, a53 min @300 max @1500mhz, gpu 266/600mhz. coming up - only data connection from 51% to 5%.
and here s the end result (so basically 49% spent only on wifi and another 46% spent only on data...

Battery life - please help, i am so frustrated

Hi,
So I had my phone on repair for the speaker. They repaired it and now it works. I got it back 4 days ago. And apparently (i dont know if this is important for battery) they installed a firmware for Poland on my phone, even though I am not from Poland, but anyways I have it set to my language and all is good.
The thing is, I am not sure how my battery is doing. I was right now on my phone searching for this on the internet (i was using the internet app) and it drained my phone from 53% to 44% in just maybe 15-20 minutes. Is that normal? I think that yesterday or the day before yesterday I had like 4 hours of SOT... When I am reading on the web people are averaging like 6 to even 8 hours. What is even more frustrating for me is that all of those people who get around 7 hours of SOT say that they are heavy users, playing games all day, snapchating, facebooking etc. and they have around 20-30% left by bedtime... Now comparing to my phone either they go to bed at 6 o'clock or my phone is bad. Because at 9 pm i have maybe like 10%. And moreso those people that report 7 hrs of SOT and are saying they are heavye users, they also say that they have Location, Data, Wifi, Sync, NFC, Bluetooth ALWAYS turned on. Me, never have Sync, NFC or Blutetooth on, because i dont need it. I only use Data, Wifi and Location, but i dont have them on all the time, I only turn them on when i need it. For example, if I have avaliable Wifi, I will connect to the wifi and my data wont be turned on. If i want to use google maps, i will turn on data and location, but once i arrive to where i need to, i will turn both off as i do not need them.
So tell me is something wrong with my battery? It is 3 pm now and i am already on 44%. I was home all day, so I did use the phone a bit more, always on Wifi, but i think i didnt use it that much. Could it be the new poland firmware? Cause i think they didnt change my battery in repair. Or is all normal? Or should i give it a few more days, since the phone was factory reset and maybe needs to learn my usage patterns? But shouldn't the phone learn that already? Its been 4 days...And how the heck do i get 7hrs of SOT and 25-30% of battery left when its 9 pm...?
Please please help me solve this.. Tell me nothing is wrong with my phone. I don't want to send it back for repair, because they already had my phone for almost 2 months and I just want to use it finnally as i really like it.
Thanks
Right now my stats are:
Battery at 38%
Total battery usage 6h 56min
Estimated usage time remaining 5hrs and 24 minutes (when i had about 70 % i think this number was 9 hrs)
Recent battery usage list:
the first item on the list is screen --> SOT=3h 40 min, it say next to it 43% and 781mAH.
second is System Android --> it says next to it 16% and then CPU total=1h 58min, CPU foreground 4 min, Stay awake=10min, Data received via WiFi= 1018, Data sent via WiFi=800 and Computed power usage= 297mAH
Then its the Internet app: 10%, CPU total 1h 8min, CPU foreground 12min, data received=76294, data sent=76198, and usage=183mAH
then it's android OS: 7%, CPU total= 51 min, stay awake= 29min, Data recieved= 9401, data sent=10892, usage=140mAH
And then i have boom beach game at 4% and cell stanby at 3% etc. but these are the top 4...
So how's it looking?
And please remember I had wifi on all the time today.. no data or location as i did not need it. and no sync, bluetooth or nfc as i never use those. Its 4 pm right now and jsut writing all this drained 3% from my phone, and if i start using it as a heavy user from this moment i dont think i'd have even 15% left by bedtime. But all the others are reporting of having all nfc, BT, wifi, data, sync turned on and playing games and watching youtube and using FB and snapchat and all these heavy stuff and still have 7hrs SOT and 25% left by bedtime... Oh and i do have FB and Messenger on my phone as well as instagram and snapchat. But i rarely use them. Only for checking our school group on fb, and instagram and snapchat i use even more rarely...
Post a screenshot of the battery usage page?
Here we go. And just before i saw your reply i was browsing again on the forums and my phone got a bit warm and dropped from like 25% to 17% in maybe 20 or 30 minutes of being on forums. And there i hear some people having a 5-10% drop when they watch a whole episode of a series on Netflix or some other video that is 1+ hours long. How?
Oh and ita 6:41 pm and im on 15%. If this was my bedtime it might have been okay but its not haha. And still people are saying they have 25% left by bedtime and here i am at 15% with only wifi on and nothinf else and its like that the whole day. I went to the shop today thats when i disabled wifi and truned on data. Thats all.
Downgraded a few weeks ago to March firmware. Battery life is great again. Had to downgrade because of the high Android System and OS which started occurring after the August patch and got worse with every new patch. Someone with the same problem?
Well i dont really know how to downgrade. And it would probably remove some features wouldnt it? Would you say my android system and os is high? Could it be better with the nougat update when it comes? Anything else that might help?
Right now i am on 8% and 5hrs 51min of SOT. Not even close to those 25% "before bedtime" and not evem close to 7hrs sot or 8 as some report.
And the cpu total of android system is 3hrs
Use ODIN to downgrade to March firmware.
When I used march firmware, Android System and OS were always below 10% - Less than 120mAh
Yes but i dont know how to use odin. I am not really that tech savy. And i heard something about voiding warranty if you fiddle with odin and doing things to your software.
And what do you think of my battery stats, sir? And do you think it might get better when nougat comes (do you think it will drop percentage of android os and system)?
Also how much should AOD and night watch drain your battery? I have aod always on and night clock from 1am to 5am. Today i slept from 1am to 9am and i think it went from 81% to 73%. How much is normal and is my normal?
And right now i have 55% battery and 2hr 45min SOT and the second on the battery usage list is android system at 20%. Everything looking good?
Try turning off Wifi and monitor. It is what causes my battery problem as of the moment and I am currently waiting for Nougat hoping it would fix this. If not, either we downgrade or go for a custom ROM.
SoT is a tough way to measure battery life unless under very closed conditions. The S7E is not a 7-8 hour phone unless you spend all your time in a dark cave with strong cell signal. It isn't usually the individual phones, but the usage and conditions that vary.
Sent from my LEX727 using Tapatalk
Hapibanana, what is monitor? And may i ask how much drain you get from aod and night clock overnight?
And I guess it totaly vary from time to time. Like right now i have 60% battery left, total time usage is only 4hrs 20 minutes and i have only 2hrs of SOT atm. Meaning that i dropped 32% in 4 hrs, of which 2hrs was screen on time. So this time i will probably only get 4hrs of sot in total. I doubt ill have 3hrs of sot by the time i reach 50%. Yet yestrday i had almost 6hrs SOT with 10% left.
I guess it depends on what you do with the phone. If you hardcore surf the web, click a lot of stuff play some games and click some more it drains more than if you just watch a youtube video where you dont click that much. Or i noticed that FB and snapchat take a lot of battery. And when i search forum and write stuff amd have multiple tabs open and change beetween them it also drains quite quickly. Like right now i was on the forums for about half an hour typing and doing some screenshots and editing them and posting them and my phone got pretty hot and it drained from around 71% to 60% which is something i guess. I use internet stock app from samsung btw.
And i also noticed that it drains from 100% to 90% very quickly then from 90% to 50% it drains a bit slower, than from 50% down even slower. I dont know the reason for this but i just noticed.
Just what i noticed.
And yeah i also hope nougat will fix some things and i hope it comes soon as i've read it is really beautiful. I waaaant it noooow
i consider myself a moderate to heavy user based on how i use my phone and up to the point before the phone update with the latest software update, i would try to kill my phone before going to bed after a full days use commencing at 7 am.
Since the January update i now i really noticed it today when my phone was fully charged at 5 am at which point i woke up 1 hr earlier than normal and use the phone for 1 hour and 35 minutes playing games. my phone was down to 5% by 10 am. this has only started happening since the last software update
I've stayed on march firmware since day 1 due to battery drain complaints on other versions. Never had a problem.
Downgrade would appear the only solution for you.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
So from 100 to almost 0 in 4 hours Deathsyntch? Thats even worse than what i have. I guess it really is something up with software. I rellay dont want to downgrade as i dont want to mess something up.. Never done it and i am not that good with his stuff. So i just hope thag nougat will maks it better and i hope it comes soon.
I got same issue, seems like normal consumption.
I had a lot of battery drain after the last Google App update.
I disabled Google App and installed the 6.8.23.21 October 2016 version.
Now all ok and I have 6-7 SOT
If you go on google market and check all the comments on Google App you can see a lot of people complaining about battery drain!

Nexus 6P - Bad SOT

Hey guys, I'm very new to XDA but I really hope someone can help me out. I'm a nexus fan and its just the best but I bought the nexus 6P thinking that I'm going to get around 6 Hours SOT considering I used to get around 4 with my N5 with the same level of usage. I want to know what I'm doing wrong or if I'm overlooking something.
Let me tell you about my phone and how I use it.
I have Elemental X + Pure nexus installed
Elemental x settings are on Ghost Pepper and I put CPU governmer on ' ondemand '
• I don't have Facebook and Messenger installed (These two were some SERIOUSS battery hoggers )
• I use google chrome push notifications as a replacement
• I use snapchat but not very excessively
• Turned off all gestures as i never used them
• Adaptive display is off
• Ambient display is off
• Notification Lights are off
• GOOGLE automatically syncs everything at anytime but other than that i manually sync whatsapp
• Location is always off except at rare times
• I use bluetooth to connect to my car to play music for an hour daily.
• Brightness is at 30-60% for 3/5th the day, 2/5th of the time it's lower than 30%.
• LTE is on for aboutt 4-5 hours a day and the rest is on WIFI.
Furthermore, I use my laptop more than my phone so I'm constantly picking up my phone and am not allowing it to fall into deep sleep for a good amount of time except at night or when im playing some serious CSGO; I noticed that its during the screen off time where I'm losing so much battery.
Now after reading all of this, do you still think I deserve to get that much screen on time?
Is there some setting I have missed out or is it the kernel + rom combination, I am really frustrated. This phone is magical but the battery is just so disappointing, I want at least 5 hours on screen time (I just barely reach 4 hours SOT)
Oh and let me further explain how the battery dies. Usually I'll be browsing facebook or 9gag and using snapchat and lets say its at 90%, it wont budge for 10 minutes or even more regardless of how heavily I use it. But the moment I turn the screen off and turn it back on, woooshh I'll lose 1%, and when I start using it again, another percent drops instantly. This is just seriously irritating and I have no clue as to what I need to do.
Thank you for any help!
No one I've ever read of gets 6 hours of screen time on this device. Between 4.5-5+ is pretty typical.
Playing music while the screen is off will have a pretty big impact on sot, especially if it's playing via the phones speakers. I know that has a big impact on my sot. There are some screenshots on here of 6 hours sot, but I suspect they set the screen timeout very high while leaving the device inactive. 4 hours is the average sot on this device from my experience.

GhostPepper is meant to run on interactive governor not ondemand. Disable TouchBoost under CPU in EXKM.
As for the rest I can't comment because you use the phone differently than mine.
I came to understand that phones are different from each other. Some have 5-8 hours of SOT and some have 3-5 hours SOT. Usage is different from each person and phone.
I would agree with several of the others that SoT is more typically 4-5 hours...I use my phone pretty heavily so I'm probably toward the shorter end of that, but even with a somewhat degraded battery (70% according to accubattery) I can still get 3 or at least close. Now granted I was only getting 1-1.5 but I went through and wiped my phone, heavily limiting the number of apps I had installed (I had a ton), and reducing the number of Google apps and services (now, etc.) that I used. Other than that just a couple minor kernel tweaks (hawktail6p profile, disable touchboost, disable zram, etc. not even sure on that last one lol)...anyways getting much better battery afterwards.
I get 2 hours of sot. My phone is about a year-and-a-half old.
I have tried all sorts of ROMs and different kernels and every tweet you can think of to try to extend my battery life. But nothing works. I'm going to have to just get a different phone soon.

Choder...I have also had my Nexus 6P since the first week it was released. I also was getting horrible battery life and I decided to order a new battery and replace it. I can tell you that my factory battery over almost a year and 3 months, had degraded horribly.
Remember when you first got it charged it up to full, the battery percentage would read 100 percent for almost a half hour BEFORE dropping. Well, it's like that again with this new battery I ordered off of ebay. Routinely getting between 5 and 6 hours SOT. I don't use my device for games, so its browsing, youtube, checking email and messages throughout the day. Don't get a new phone...spend the 13 bucks on a new battery and save the cash.

i've seen the DIY battery replacement video on youtube. Looks difficult IMO. what did you think? Have you ever done anything like that before? really interested in trying but intimidated and don't want to bork my phone....
I am getting 2.5h SOT....any governor, any kernel, any ROM....just a bad device to buy for a good battery life.
I mean, it's frickin huge!! Of course you should expect 4h...but 2.5h cmon....I swear of God there is something wrong with Android...my phone turns off at 35% saying Power (0%) Shutting down...WTF?!?

That shutdown at 30% is a known issue. You should RMA your phone. Huawei extended the warranty at least through the end of this month.

If you find DIY intimidating you can always get a quote from a phone repair place. It would be cheaper than getting a new phone but you have to do some extreme things to get long battery life out of the 6P because the phone wasn't really made that way. Rooting, using a kernel tuned for battery savings (which will likely affect the performance of the phone) and using Naptime (which puts the phone into Doze as soon as the screen goes off) will all increase overall battery life.

It's not as difficult as it looks. Just make sure you have the proper tools. A heat gun, the hobby knife to fit between the aluminum body and the plastic screen housing.
Once you get the separation you can use a guitar pick to undo the clips around the edges of the 6p. Just take your time.

So you haven't seen all. I can use my phone and get 6 to 7h SOT (check here on XDA and you will see a lot of people achieving the same). Places where LTE is very bad combined with Google services trying to sync whatever is the biggest drainer here that can bring me down to 4h.

We'll I average 6:41 sot based on gsam averages. My phone rarely gets below 50-55% before I'm charging that night (9am-12am) the last time I was at 50% was a could days ago and was at 3:40 sot. The biggest thing I do is on any rom or kernel...
First is turn off all the sync under Google. That means contacts, calendar... Everything. No reason to let all the stuff just sync all day long. If I add a contract I go in account, Google and sync my contacts. The next thing I do is turn off all the background data syncing under data usage, cellular data usage for apps that need not sync. I leave days syncing for things like Google app, text apps browser, things your need to sync. Put location to battery saving unless I need high accuracy.
That's it, it's not rocket science, of you're still getting bad sot, your phone is likely with bad signal, not sleeping from a rouge app or maybe the battery is degraded a lot. If you're getting the shutdown issue, then RMA your phone, that's a bad bug.
In my case I was talking about sync under 'backup and reinit'. Having to switch off normal google sync would be a bit of a hassle. I use gmail (which is crap but haven't reconnected k9mail yet) and more important i use keep to share stuffs. I prefer sync over sot and I anyway reach a day.
But in my case, believe me, the root cause is bad gapps sync when having atrocious 3G (LTE little less draining) which is half of my day.
At home data connection is OK and I can get past 6h as I said. My device is only 6 months old. I have an estimated capacity of 3440mAh.
