Just a quick Benchmark - Galaxy S6 Edge General

I have played with the S6 Edge and Normal version for almost a week now. I work for T-Mobile and have been messing with the demo units and got my personal one on Monday. Here is a picture of a quick benchmark I completed and I have to admit, it feels just as fast as the benchmark shows.

i believe its even faster. have seen some of the units from the samsung announcment hit 70K. guess it just depends on software optimization but this phone feels extra fast. got mine on monday too.

Hmm I was wondering If I got a "slow" unit. Mine does 62-63k as well. Was there an issue with your 1st unit or did you buy 2? I'm thinking my screen may have issues as well.

I had a problem with my front facing camera and condensation

Only thing that concerns me now is the speakers. He just mentioned they were there, before moving onto something more positive.
Schwing!
2 speakers on front has to be better than just one. The camera looks like a big improvement. And, can't believe it, it fit in his pocket!

Was a nice looking phone from the pictures looks even better in that video. I was also a little sceptical of the camera but now I'm sold. Looking forward to my first Nexus device.

If The Verge says it's a good camera, then it really must be. They like don't like anything that isn't the iPhone camera.
Technically, the first "Hands On" video about the N6 was the Carphone Warehouse video comparing the N6 to the GSN4 (Though it was not a very good one): www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Fn8OnzDO5Y
I have not seen this yet, as I plan on Chromecasting the video. That said considering its "The Verge" I am skeptical they will treat it fairly compared to their universally known apple product fandom.

Having them facing you is pointless if the sound is extremely tinny. Hence my concern.
There is very little space for those speakers under that small bezel. They look very similar to my Moto G, which is quite worrisome for a premium device. The top speaker is nearly always more audible than the bottom one too. This was the case in the Moto G, and is also the case with the Xperia Z2 and Z3 as well.
Then again, with the wider chassis, it will hopefully have a bit more oomph.
"Feels way better in the hand than I expected"
This is the one thing I was delighted to hear from the video. Hopefully we'll hear more comments like this before it gets released.
That looks amazing, day 1 pre order for sure!

Perhaps you would be more enlightened/discouraged by reading about the exact same issue with the S6 HERE
In both cases, these are both devices running "bragging" ROM versions for MWC and also running a synthetic benchmark that is often derided as "non-representative" of reality.
Either way, I wouldn't be tempted to draw any conclusions yet. Early adopters pay over the odds in financial and ROM stability/performance terms.
odd move basing your buying decision on a phone thats being used constantly pre released and being charged at the same dam time smh
And all this is based on the fact that some would-be tech journalist from Romania tried to do some benchmark tests on a phone with non-final software on it and that has been on the charger for two-three days continuously, with its screen lit up most of the time and that has been played with by hundreds of people ... Let's be patient a little and wait for a test when the whole package is actually finished and shipped out for real reviews.

Couldn't make sense of your point as there was no punctuation...I have tired head now.
Even if so, samsung would be the last company I turn my head to if I leave HTC (after apple that is, but goes without saying)
I thought this was a joke. The same post is in the Galaxy S6 forum.
Anywoot, simple solution to overheating. Custom kernel and undervolting.
watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqez7e5JTcU running benchmarks side by side and no overheating warning popped up on either phone.
Overheating on a demo phone that probably has the screen on for hours on end and is tethered into a charger...yeah that makes sense
Yes indeed.. Antutu already alarms when your phone is at 58C... Screen and charger always on, a lot of people play with it and run benchmarks.. not so strange it's going to be around 60C and antutu gives a warning..
Even the S6 will do exactly the same in that situation. I've had it also with my Note 3, when on charger
Not a big fan of Samsung's take on Android (TW) and I know benchmark results are not always reflective of real world performance. However, these results look pretty darn good for the S6 devices. Seems like some good optimization work has gone into these devices. S6 is pushing a lot more pixels.. don't know how the tests are affected by that.

Optimization... On Samsung! Pufffth. It was evident in previous cases that the Note 3 had cheated on bench marks. I'm not saying HTC hasn't cheated either, but just something to realize that benchmarks aren't everything and can be easily fabricated with some from of performance setting (i.e. higher clocks or performance governor).
My insights below. Maybe biased in the eyes of Samsung
After owning both the One M7 and S5 - I had a better experience on the m7 and the screen on the Samsung is very thin that it broke after I dropped it on the ground. I personally see a lot of people with broken digitizer's on the bus and this is probably why. In my case, my next phone will either be a Sony or a HTC. If you guys are wondering if warranty protects against this, it doesn't unless the phone's digitizer doesn't respond at all that means I'm not covered by warranty at all. Something to realize when buying any from of warranty.
that is inevitable, cortex A57 is a big and hot core

GearVR - SGS7 Edge overheating

I'm using the GearVR which I've got for the SGS6 Edge (works well with the SGS7 as well).
I do get messages while using it, that my phone is heating up and that I should disconnect my SGS7 and let it cool down before continuing.
Did anyone try to use the SGS7 Edge with GearVR? Are you facing the same issue?
Chipsets have auto-shutdown to make sure it's not damaged.

Noticed the same observation made on the Oculus/Gear VR forums. Here is his words exactly. I was hoping that all that heat pipe talk allowed the phone to operate for longer periods.
"- Heating is still an issue - after 30 or so minutes of heavy use and downloading various apps and games I received a warning that I need to coll down the phone for optimal performance. However, unlike with S6 I did not notice any slowdown in performance when the phone overheated. "

Right, I didn't notice any degradation in performance but at some point it didn't let me continue at all; I really had to take it out and let it rest. Given all the promotions and announcements, one would think they have made this solution work for more than 15-20min before the phone heats up and needs to rest... I hope for Samsung that updates will come out soon to better optimize the software and avoid the overheating problems.
I had the same issue for my Note 4 Gear. That's why I am selling the Gear once I get it, not even worth it if you can't watch a full movie through it..
Did you leave the outside lid off? I heard that helps.
Samsung needs to just release a cover with built-in fans. The people who added fans to the cover themselves said it fixed the problem.
I also had the same problem.what should I want to do I don't know Exactly
This doesn't sound good. I wanted the Gear VR specifically for watching movies in private

What lag?

I've read and seen videos saying that they've noticed lag. What lag? I haven't had any lag whatsoever. Screen is super responsive and so are the buttons. Transitions are seamless, no stutter whatsoever playing Asphalt 8. I don't get it. I've had the phone since release day haven't put it down and haven't noticed the slightest stutter either.
Am I not understanding the meaning of lag? Am I one lucky bastard with a perfect device? Can anyone give me examples of lag?

Lol. You kill me bruh But for real, isn't the SD 920 "better"? That's not my opinion but what I've heard.
There is no lag on the Snapdragon version either except in a few games. Moving around the UI is just as fast as the 6S+ I came from and Asphalt 8 runs as smooth as butter.
Where there is lag is in certain games like Hearthstone. The game just doesn't feel optimized for the phone. Some have said it's an issue with Marshmallow on Samsung devices with certain games. It just doesn't make sense since the Snapdragon version has the most powerful mobile GPU on the market.

If we're talking about specific games not being optimized it's not lag per say. My iPhone 6s would just freeze for a second while scrolling through pages. That's what I call lag. Not sure what those people are talking about. Thanks for the reference. I did see the hearthstone being mentioned.
I haven't noticed any lag and I'm a power user on an 820. I think people may have stutters here and there. But I haven't experienced that. I did on my s6 once in a blue, but haven't at all yet on the s7 edge.

The only issues I had on my s6 edge and note 5 was redraw and it only happened with the samsung clock/weather widget. Besides I find that any potential launcher lag can be easily fixed by switching to Nova. Otherwise I haven't had any redraws since my note 5.
It seems that most people repoprting issues such as lag and hot phones have the Snapdragon variant. Not all of them though as some have reported having no issues. It's strange.

Not so strange when you consider the amount of devices built at different assembly locations. With the sheer number of devices being pumped out you're bound to have a lemon or two. What I don't get is people starting threads saying they're going back to Apple because the s7 edge is laggy af when they just had a faulty device. My note 4 had this weird lag and I brought it to the Samsung service center and they fixed it. My iPhone 6s had this weird stutter but I won't go around trashing the iPhone 6s cause it lags that's simply not true.

Lucky you. I lose about 15% overnight with all my power getting sucked up by Android system, Android OS and Phone Idle.
I'm hoping this latest update from T-Mobile fixed the battery drain in standby mode. If not, I'll likely go back to the store and exchange it for another. They told me another shipment was coming in this weekend and they still have quite a few S7 Edges left in store.

Yea. Looks like some are experiencing even more although this latest update seemed to improve things. I'll have to do some further testing to know for sure.
Yesterday though, it did look like something was leaking. I turned WiFi on and didn't do anything at all. I even set WiFi to sleep when the device was turned off yet somehow GSAM reported 9mb downloaded over WiFi and like I said, I didn't do anything at all with WiFi.

Was i expecting too much for my money???

I received my S7 today it is a lovely phone to look at, however the 'edge' style screen is no more than a piece of curved glass on top of a flat screen. This means the touch screen is really thick.
I also ran Antutu check and the phone is half of what elephone were claiming it should be... mine was 47k... where i seen screen shots earlier last month of test devices pumping out 80k plus!!!
Still the phone was only £200... hopefully there will be some good community support for the software on this phone, as it seems elephone are notorious for crappy phone support.
Ive been on a lumia 930 for last two years and i have to say it has been a flawless device, its a shame the windows operating system didn't get the app support it deserved. Soooo back to fiddling with android :good:
I can say from my experience with elephone that their devices are not very good. The quality of the devices are mediocre at best and the support is awful. Updates from elephone don't exist and and their promises about software updates are pure lies. I bought the p6000 for my girlfriend and i was very disappointed about build quality and support for this device. Never again i will buy a elephone device, but this is my opinion based on my experience with this brand.
Finding more things wrong with it... The GPS is not working very well at all. I think I'll send it back and get something else.
I had an Antutu score of 70k+ when I first got the phone. Then after a few OTA updates its 55k. Not sure if its Elephone or Antutu.
The build quality is above average for the price, I think. And a poor imitation of a real Samsung edge, the rounded edges give no benefit.
Have seen reboots when i unplug the charger - twice now. Battery drains...I am hoping the OTA updates solve this
Still quite usable for now.

Hi ,seems like big difference on s7 performance..
I find design very pleasing and the same goes for friends who care ,fingerprint and cam are super and thickness 7.6mm vs galaxy s7 7.9mm .. In My point of view its a candidate to most worth buying phone 2016 like the P8000 but it all about taste..
Just to prove my score! I wonder why they are so different??

Hi
Find it so strange too ,so many different experiences with the S7 ,mine where one of the lucky ones or so i thought ,with the new kernel update this morning i now have a score in Antutu at 48xxx what about ur phone after update.. ? now u exeed 80xxx
it's a pity
I've received my S7 yesterday... pretty much phone....
But benchs are a pity.... my old phone with MTK 6752 have best result than the Helio X20
I expect a good update very soon, because actualy, the S7 is the worst phone I have had ...
Mine did not update this morning... It did however update as soon as I booted it up for the first time. So I'm guessing it was the same update.

Hi ... before you update your S7 could you run an Antutu Test , and the same after update, to see the difference before after please ...
If it asks to update yes I will. I have a feeling that the update my phone did on first boot was the same one that others are currently getting.
Hopefully there will be some good custom Roms knocking around soon.
I bought the black 64+4 s7, from gearbest. I have already put on the big update the other day. Then I did a factory reset. So*after coming on here I tried the antutu test. I am only getting 37000-38000? How are you guys getting higher scores. I make sure no other app is running etc, tried battery in balanced mode and high mode, and also plugged into the mains. Same score each time.
So I took my phone of charge and ran the test again and I got 86100. Ran it straight after and back in the 40k mark. My phone does get hot around the camera area on the back, top.
Weird, so both tests were done with phone off charge and completed one after the other? I've been running my phone for 3 days now... I'll run another test and see what it is saying.
I also purchased mine from GearBest.
Not that it should make a difference.

So when I got up tonight I tried again -
Phone 60% charge - 70k
Phone on full charge - 85k
2nd*try - 63k
3rd try - 48k
4th try - 55k
My phone had over*90% charge for each try. Put my phone back on charge and tried one last time, it crashed right at the end, got a message that the app had stopped responding. Backed out and there was a score, 86346
3d - 16307
UX - 36287
CPU - 26813
ram - 6939
So basically the app or the phone only works at 100% when coming of a full charge Seem to lose a lot at 99% charge, lol.
Anyway my next test will be over the quick charge. The standard charger from 5% to 100% takes me just over 1 hour 30 mins. I should get the quick charger, r9000, an extra £10 delivered,*by the end of the week, hopefully. I ordered* the R9000 charger on the 29th nov.

You didn't get the quick charger in the box then? Interesting results..
Tbh I have been using my phone allot over the last couple of days and it has performed very well. I screen casted a 1080p movie from show box to the TV and carried on using the phone while it was doing that and it did not stutter or lag at all... Only thing is weirdly my s view settings have disappeared?? So I have the time in an s view box on my lockscreen but I can't seem to change it. Can you access s view on your phone?
I got 81k in AnTuTu but remember to turn on performance mode
You only get a standard charger in the box, don't know why*it didn't come with the quick charger. I bought direct from elephone, said 1-2 weeks delivery.
I found that setting the phone to balanced mode gave me the higher antutu score. High performance doesn't really work, well on antutu for me anyway.
