[Q] Is it worth to trip knox - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Only two months remaining in my warranty. should I trip knox? If ktoonsez kernel comes for TW lollipop then I for sure will trip knox. But other than ktoonsez kernel, Is there anything worth to trip knox for?

I tripped knox 2 months after purchase.
I don't regret it at all. I can backup my apps with titanium backup. I can use viper4android. I can increase and decrease the performance (depending if I need battery life or not).
I felt very restrained without root.

Finally, I tripped my knox...!!!

Now I can use my phone the way I want. Now its my phone instead of samsung....lol!!!

[Q] Yet another Root and KNOX tread.. What about NAND?

My phone is SM-N9005, with 4.3 stock and the dreaded MJ7..
I understand that there still is no way to Root this device without flagging the [email protected]@# KNOX and void any warranty..
I'm going to wait a couple of days for a possibility to root my beloved Note3, without triggering KNOX and then I don't think I kan live without Titanium, Exposed and Tasker++... :fingers-crossed:
I'm wondering if someone can explain to me; (I'm a noob and I know it) is the information Knox 0x1 stored in flash memory (NAND)?
And if so, and i had to deliver my phone for service some time in the future.. Would it be possible to make Nand corrupt beyond recognition and then get warranty back?
If they can't see anything wrong, they can't claim that I have been rooted..
Or should I just try too brag them with some baked goods and hope for the best?
I really hate that Samsung have done this with an "open" OS, and if there's no good work around in the future, This will be my last Samsung device!
Btw: This is my first post here on XDA, and sorry for my "English"

Apparently people have done this when they can't boot and have rooted OS. Don't know if it works as I haven't needed to try, anytime I had a warranty claim the problem actually fried the MB by itself.... No help needed...

I thank you for the comment, but i do need an first hand experience before I fry my note..
Don't know why, but I'd be more comfortable with a full whipe of NAND, if that's the place KNOX is stored..

KNOX is stored everywhere, - No one knows for sure where the counter 0x0/0x1 is located, hence no one being able to reset it. It is possible it's in NAND, but then again, it might be somewhere totally different.

In all honesty I doubt a few days will make any difference, there isn't even anyone working on rooting without tripping KNOX, especially now DG and CF have given up and said it can't be done due to the bootloader...

Well, then it seems like this is my last Samsung device..
It where nice as long as it lasted.
Any thoughts about the NAND?
If that is corupted, wouldn't it be difficult or impossible to read the internal SD?

It is possible, but we don't know what kind of tools Samsung potentially use to debug a device properly. But then again, who knows

[Q] 4.4.2 Root keeping knox 0x0 progress?

Hello, does anybody know if we are close to a potential knox friendly root release for 4.4.2? I know that they pached 4.3 kernel and saferoot will not work on kitkat anymore..but because of this patch, will it be possible to root again while keeping knox 0x0? Or just say goodbye to saferoot and void our waranties?
I am asking because my GT-I9505 is starting to lag because of bloats and i would like to root it, am i waiting for a ''safe root'' that actually never going to be released? if yes im about to use cf autoroot right now.
feel free to express your opinion:good:
The unique way for root the phone is using CF- autoroot at this moment. This method void ur warranty, sorry :highfive:

I already knew that cf root voids warranty. All i ask is if a ''saferoot'' method is now an impossible scenario due to the kernel patch....Or it's not? Any dev here to give an answer? I am sure there are many people waiting anxiously...

I know everything you say, I just ask if it is impossible for ''saferoot'' or ''root de la vega'' or any similar root that is be able to bypass knox without tripping it in the near future, not now!....i know that these root methods do NOT work in the present, all i ask is for the near future, that is why i asked for a dev to give us a more specialized answer.
Thank you for your answer but please understand what i say

Of curse in near future the 4.4.2 ROMs will be rooted without tripping the KNOX and warranty flag.
I can assure you that ETA is around 24 months, so what you need to do is to sit and wait.

Do you want serious approach?
Be my guest. Current circumstances are:
1. Samsung announced about in near future 4.4.3 release for G4;
2. sometime ago S5 was released.
1+2=less and less devs have interest in work with G4 4.4.2, therefore it is very unlikely that it will be any breakthrough, if something universal (like common trick, let's say for Note 3+G4) would emerge, Even Samsung is not approaching the 4.4.2 seriously (known GLONASS bug, problems with data connections, drains etc are remaining unfixed).
Conclusion: because of the above, you can sit and wait, as I stated in previous post, having hope that something may appear.

restore... unroot questions

What would happen if I allowed the at&t update to happen? I am rooted with towel root and added titanium and safestrap. that's it. Can I restore to the original AT&T rom? I am obviously on AT&T and rolling with the s5 Active.
not really impressed with the root on this particular device...Samsung will allow a ton of custom setups and I can deal with the bloatware compared to the instability of just being rooted...Ive had more call drops and stutters and blackscreens since rooting... no biggie
Just want to know if I can just apply the update or do I need to jump through hoops?
Please understand that I'm "slow" and rode the short bus to school...Please refrain from treating me that way. im not all there.. just help Thanks.

I suggest you learn more about rooting. It's awesome once you know how and what you can benefit from it. Worth the Knox 0x1 at some point.

The update may comtain a patch for Towelroot so you might not be able to root after that, CF Auto Root will work but it will trip KNOX.

If you notice... Ive been a member of this forum for 5+ years... Post count means nothing...while others are posting, I'm "learning more about rooting." Plus, I'm highly gun shy about posting idiotic and useless comments around here. There is no tolerance for such sensationalism..
So, thanks for the suggestion but I'm as well read about rooting as you are. Yes, its awesome...I know. Thanks, though... but The Problem seems to be that (with AT&T) stability is compromised. Worth the ability for me to lose bloatware? ...especially with a highly customizable Samsung?? Questionable right now...
Still "learning."
Just wonderin' about restoring...

Knox Bootloader

Hello, just wondering since it's been a while, if anybody found a way to downgrade the Knox bootloader-enabled one to the one before? From 4.2 if I remember correctly? Thanks!

That sucks, the S4 was a good device, before I had to send it in for repairs! They upgraded me to 4.4 with Knox, and now it's just awful, sadly. Oh well.

Why? I got mine with Knox, but I don't see the big issue with it.
Anyway, you can always flash custom ROMs to get rid of Knox. Or root and delete Knox apps from your ROM.

[Q] Root limits

Somewhere along the way I kinda stopped counting bricks ...
Yes we can only charge to 80% I found a method to get higher. I wouldn't trade root for anything on this device. It makes it bearable. I run modded TouchWiz and viper. Ui tweaks. There's very little you can do to really brick your phone as we still have locked bootloader Most hard bricks are recoverable. I prefer rooted nougat over pie any day of the week.
Btw bricks are fun. Fun to figure out why and how to recover.

Another thing, charging over 80 isn't recoverable by just reflashing the official stock(ie unrooted and all), right?

Yea it is. It a limit implemented by the kernel we need for rooting. Once the stock firmwares kernel is flashed back all undone. No tripped Knox.
