performance - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys
Is anybody else facing this?
When I was doing a bit of phone research before I got my grand prime, I stumbled upon this Indian guy video on YouTube in which he plays some games, one if these games is asphalt 8 which he plays at high settings with no noticeable lag.
Now the problem is that I can't even play asphalt at medium settings, I mean the game is absolutely unplayable, bunch of lag and frame drops and stuff.
Actually my phone hangs and freezes a lot randomly, even candy crush freezes at times.
So... anyone of you guys are experiencing this kind of behavior?
Im rooted and on whatever firmware that the mohan method installs, done a hard reset already and it only got a bit better.

Touchwiz is likely to lag no matter how good the system hardware is, The main reason is we're having latest touchwiz Ux on a phone which is made for Nature Ux 2.5.
To improve performance I would suggest you to use any CPU controller app (No-Frills) to put your phone to performance mode. Also use greenify to hibernate apps that you don't use often to increase the available ram.
Press thanks if It helped.

awesome, thx be trying that

Slow flash on Nexus One

So flash 10.1 final just came out and I've been trying to play around with it. I notice that many flash, especially flash games are running very slow(try armor games), also some flash video. It seems YouTube is the smoothest one. Can anybody else confirm your flash performance or is it just me?

You don't have any lag or anything? Even with full flash games? Try crush the castle 2 on armor games.

Plenty of lag here trying some flash games on facebook. Not smooth at all (using dolphin HD).
Have you guys tried double-tapping the game or video to make it fullscreen? That always works for me.

That doesn't really change the fact that the game's slow.

Well, it could, because in full screen it might be using HW acceleration. Don't know if that's the way it's implemented, though.
vimeo.com always played slow for me.

Ah just Google armor games and you will see the game on the home page.

I tried playing crush the castle 2 and it played smoothly, audio wasnt choppy at all and gameplay didnt lagg one bit.
So to people lagging:
1. Which rom are you using?
2. Do you have extra windows open in the browser, what programs are running in the background?
Try restarting your device, and open a flash game without opening anything but the browser. Try with fullscreen and regularly.

I'm using latest CM nightly. Maybe it's the background programs since I never use any task killer app and I have maybe 50 apps installed on the phone together. Also I'm using Dolphin browser HD.
I'll try restart the phone fresh and see how it goes.

Using the Rodgriguez ROM and dolphin HD. Don't have any other tab opened but Im sure I have some apps running in the background. phone is overclocked to 1.113gh
Just tried the full screen mode and it helps a little but not much. I think it's the game that I am playing that's causing the lag (Restaurant City). LOL
I just rebooted my phone and tried crush the castle 2 on armor games. The game still ran very slow. Maybe I need to wipe the cache to do a clean install of ROM? I haven't wiped for a while.

I'm on stock froyo 2.2 and i dont use a task manager. The game was the only window/tab open at the time and the last time i restarted the phone was over a week ago.

Well I guess maybe it's because of the ROM then. CM maybe uses too much system resource and is not optimized.

Try revert back to flash 10.1 beta 3 version. Flash 10.1 final is terribly slow while beta 3 performs quite smoothly on most games and videos. Those who had no issues most likely still on beta 3.

FPse on Galaxy S II

So, installed FPse and downloaded crash team racing .bin file but it does not run! it open and freezes but sound still goes on.
at the same time, this is FPse on gs2 topic. post your FPse experiences with gs2 here. driver 2 is coming at 40kb/s, hope it'll run better
EDIT: Driver 2 runs perfect 60fps
I play Final Fantasy 9.
Runs really well except that there is no sound in the cut scenes.
Gran Turismo 2 runs at 60 fps. Haven't tried anything else yet.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
I've tried FF9 as well but all saves I make (in game, not save states) are corrupt.
I'm new to FPse, any idea what I could be doing wrong? Other than that it's working great.
Only suggestion I have for the OP is to try a different bios...maybe thats a fix for me too, but I've already tried two.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I've been playing crash bandicoot 2 and it runs pretty smooth with good sound. I dont get on with the touch screen pad though id prefer it if it gave some feed back or something idk I just prefer the n64oid pad.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
everything I have tried runs perfect at 60fps (ocasional slowdown to ~40 on loading etc
Make sure you have a bios selected. Also there seems to be a bug where you need to select the bios twice (you will know when it has worked as it will say please restart - at this point go to close/resart)
And remember you need to select the bios for each game
Re my post above:
It looks like I didn't load the bios twice as someone mentioned. Just did that and now my saves work.
Thanks, now we just need a wiimote compatible bluetooth stack or other controller option

Has anyone managed to get Tomb Raider II to work? Mine gets to the menu and then freezes when going to play the game
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
fpse is very finicky, however that being said it also runs very well. It doesn't like to save settings, and will usually force close if you try to save them ( at least for me), but once i get in game (i play ffvii alot) it plays wonderful.
also Gran Turismo 2 runs perfect 60fps still didn't figure out why CTR does not work for me since it works usually everywhere.
If anyone wants to try CTR on their own devices and report me if they work or not i would be grateful.
CTR? What's that?

Crash Team Racing
When is the n64 emulator gonna be back in the market?
I tried ripping my CTR disc but that wasn't working for me but I found a ROM that did work. For some reason the audio tracks are different in this rom which kind of sucks, anyone got a original CTR rom working?
psx4droid runs it but its slow..
I pay tekken 3 on mine, works absolutely great, even managed to find savegames with unlocks which work as memory cards.. on a sidenote PSX4Droid wouldn't play the game at all
Tried few PSX games (NFS HP, Pepsi-Man, Bloody Roar, MDK) and all are looking so pixelated (as it is using software rendering and not OpenGL). Same to you guys?
Tried with Screen filtering, it smooth the lines a bit.. but still pixelated + it slowdowns a lot the emulation.
Tried with HLE off, no effect..
Using "scph1001.bin" bios.
Gte acceleration checked
Mdec acceleration checked
Anyone? viva.fidel?

Played 9mm and realized screen is not sensitive...

Hi all,
have you guys experienced insensitive screen when playing games that have joystick like in 9mm, where sometimes the joystick would get stuck in a direction and you would need to touch it again to release it from the stuck position.
Imo, this really affects gaming...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Never had any sensitive problem. I didn't try 9mm, but it could be software. Maybe a bug of the game.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Of course this happens only when i play 9mm... Not in any daily use.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I used to play a lot GuerrilaBob and I am sure I have never noticed anything wrong. Try another game with the same joystick mechanism.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
9Mm is running smoothly on mine. Controls are fluid and games in general run lag free for me.maybe it's rom related, am running checkrom v5 btw.
i have this problem in PES2011, too. i will have a look for it this evening in 9mm. and i know other poeple having issue this in PES2011.
i think, it's a problem of the touchpad driver, but i have this on different ROMs, from KE7 to KI3, with and without torchpad lag fix.
and it only occurs when you touch the joystick continuously. if i play PES2011 and drop off the joystick just every few seconds the problem does not appear.
hope this helps

Batman runs terrible on my nexus

Just purchased the game and for my surprise it is running really bad here. Low fps and laggy as hell.
I have been researching and it seems that tegra 3 has some issues with games from gameloft.
Anyone else tried and had problems like this ? I am trying to find a solution for this but so far no luck.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Yeah same. Used different kernels too. It's pretty much unplayable.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Forgot to say that I am using motley kernel. If the problem is with tegra maybe it possible to emulate some other api....
Well...back on looking for a solution....
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
The PowerVR / Adreno 2xx / Mali chips do really well with Gameloft games. I guess nVidia needs to increase their market share before Gameloft shows them any love. My phone is using the Adreno 205 chip, and plays some games better than my Tegra device(which sucks).
If i am not mistaken Chainfire had an app to emulate tegra drives on mali so we could run games like shadowgun.
Maybe the opposite could be done either ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Heh... maybe
Let me try that ChainFire3D, and report back, because I'd like to think this was 25 cents wasted hahaha
*edit* DO NOT flash ChainFire3D. It sent my tablet into bootloops and had to restore a nandroid. Little bug with this phone won't let you go into recovery from bootloader without it being plugged in.
id say its your setup, its running very smooth here, and lag free. do you have force gpu rendering enabled in the main device settings, developer options? rasbean jelly rom with the latest trinity kernel.
Same here runs great, using paranoid android 2.17 and montley kernel 1.1.1 gpu 484.
Runs horribly for me too. Stock kernel and XenonHD,no over clock. Laggy as hell.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Runs laggy here too on rasbeanjelly stock kernal, Franco kernal seemed to have slightly better performance buts dissapointing that gameloft is having us resort to using custom roms/kernals just to get almost decent performance in there games, back on tegra 2 gameloft games were extremely smoove what happened here?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
It seems to be a miss and hit scenario, some report it playable and some report unplayable. Suppose everyone has a different outlook on playable, anyway, Gameloft games aren't optimised for Tegra 3. As leelaa pointed out they only use 1 core, which is pretty annoying. Also this should be in Themes & Apps section?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus, if I helped hit thanks.
batman runs fine here..non-rooted..very mild lag sumtimes..but playable..i have complain bout asphalt 7...low gfx..terrible frame rate...

You are correct they aren't optimized yet, if they were you would see all the HD titles on the wapstore, and there's actually none on there other than the simple free games that they have, but hopefully that changes soon

Ran fine on rooted stock when I bought it a while back. Pretty graphics but it's more like watching a movie with predictive actions. After a few tries got bored and uninstalled it.
I'm on stock unrooted and it works perfectly. Very smooth.

mine lags... almost unplayable.
Could it be possible that some 'variants' of Nexus 7 runs fine?
Let s try to discover what are the settings of those who runs it smooth and copy it.
I will begin to test it here.

I disabled the force gpu under developer and it got way way better. Now it is playable. My nexus frooze while playing. I will increase the voltage and how it works.
Nice...i will keep testing

Plants vs Zombies 2 lag

Just downloaded Plants vs Zombies 2 to play and getting quite a bit of lag while throughout the game, especially when scrolling the map to select different stages. Gameplay is okay with only a slight amount of lag.
Anyone else experiencing this or do I have a lemon?
I have played it a bit. no noticeble lag. where there many apps open in the background? try closing them by pressing your homebutton. or download the game again. i hope i helps
offtopic: my note 3 get hot arround the camera when i play it. i guess the GPU is located there.
Tried it immediately after reboot, no dice
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3 using Tapatalk
Yeah scrolling the map is a bit jittery. Also starts to lag a bit when a lot is going on the screen. It's pretty demanding for a casual game.

Yeah pretty much what I'm experiencing. My friends on note 2 say they aren't experiencing any though. Will check it out on my colleague's note 2 later

Me too
I am also facing the same thing. I am playing it on my Note 3 and it's extremely laggy. Not sure if it's the game or does it require some other extension to make it smooth?
solution
I already got the solution. The one I was using was a hacked installation file with the additional files. So I just ditched it and downloaded a new one from play stores and it works perfect. They even updated the stages so I think they fixed the bugs and lags on the latest plants vs zombies 2.
