Lollipop now live & available for Xperia Z2 ?!! - Xperia Z2 General

Hi every one,
I checked Xperia Z2 updates on XperiFirm and i found the latest firmware 23.1.A.0.690 for Lollipop update available now
I don't know to download it and flash on my device or not?!!
so please notify me
Thank you.

1. Click the version you want from the right.
2. Download it (have "automaticly unpack" checked)
3. When it is done downloading, open flashtool.
4. Click tools-->Bundles-->Create
5. Select the folder where you downloaded from Xperia Firmwares. Double click the device section and chose Z2. In branding, type the country it is for and in version type 23.1.A.0.690. In the "Folder list", select all EXCEPT the .ta files and move them over to "Firmware content" with the arrows.
6. Press create.
7. When it is done, you will have a .ftf file and a .torrent file in your flashtool firmware folder. Flash the .ftf file to your phone
If I explained it bad, here is a link to another tutorial: http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/08/1...re-files-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool-guide/
Or you can just wait for the OTA update
Edit: I realized now that the update also is avaliable on Sony PC Companion, so just plug your phone into your computer and update from there

oky ty i downloading now and will flash it

OTA version pushed out for Australia.

Bit of a noob question but does the phone need to be unlocked or are these carrier updates..
I'm in Canada on Bell and dont expeat to see an update for awhile.
Also curious what's required to manually update myself
I have an unrooted, stock z2 and a macbook.

Phone does not need to be unlocked to flash ftf files. I'm in Canada as well with Fido. The z2 was a bell exclusive in Canada, so I bought my z2 from a Sony store. The only differences between our devices is the firmware were running, and the fact that your device has a locked bootloader and most likely network locked to Bell as well. Flashing ftf files to change your firmware has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader, or network unlocking your phone, so you're good there. If you flash the lollipop update Nordic ftf file, your bootloader will still be locked, and your device will still be network locked to Bell.
That being said, I haven't yet flashed any other regions firmwares on my phone, as I haven't had to up to this point. So I can't guarantee personally that absolutely everything will work 100% without bugs. Some people say other regions firmwares might have minor differences with the modem, etc, but most people here on XDA will tell you it's perfectly safe to do so.
Keep in mind this may void your warranty with Bell, I'm not sure. Check with them first. However, it will not void your warranty with Sony as you don't have to root or unlock the bootloader to flash an ftf file.
If it does not void your warranty with Bell, you can either flash this Nordic lollipop update, or wait for the North American unbranded update to roll out if you want to play it safe. Then your updates will come straight from Sony, rather than Bell.
Edit: After reading Sony's warranty policy, it would potentially void your warranty. But then you could just flash the Bell Canada ftf file to bring your device back to its warranted state.

Ok can I flash these files from a macbookk

Using my dad's windows laptop and following a tutorial I still can't figure it out...

I flash it on my device it's working good now

I think I jumped the gun with excitement. I was running existenz rom when I got the update, wouldn't update properly so I flashed back the aus generic. No pop-up to download since. I've got a copy of the download_update.bin file, the phone doesn't care. Looks like I'll be waiting till I can flash it with a locked recovery.

I can confirm a new firmware update for NFC.
New Baseband, hopefully that fixes network drop outs - Confirmed it hasn't really helped much, still get no network errors often, clicking retry works fine (very frustrating)
Lightflow (coloured LED notifications) works fine in non root mode, not as well but still very usable (colour cycling of the flashing is a little more random).
Can confirm that the USB interface is much faster, seems to be at least twice as fast accessing the internal or external SD
Can confirm that the WIFI has the same problems as .434 and .350 for me. couldn't establish initial connection to any access point until I fresh rebooted the access point, and signal strength is pretty much the same.
Not sure what others are talking about new kernel, it is the exact same kernel for me

Right guys, I had uploaded it to netload via FTP, and am not sure where it is, will look for the link or give you the username and password temporarily.
I will also upload it to depositfiles.

Did the FTP help? I will only leave this option available for the rest of today AU time, then the three download options
Seems that this last firmware version is unrootable, so,is there some regional or localized firmware .434 that when is rooted, it could offer a .235 OTA update?
My phone was bought from Telstra, and come with some Bigpond & Telstra apps.
The build number is 10.1.A.1.350
There are no any updates when I check in Software update
So, should I flash this firmware

This ROM is from Australia, my phone is not from any Cell provider therefore not locked to anyone. Each provider will customise and lock the ROMs to their networks, this takes time which is why you will not get the update yet. Wow, I can't believe that they are so far behind still. .434 was released in Australia the day the phone was officially released in Australia
You can flash this ROM over top of your current ROM and provided that you do not wipe the data partition you should retain all your apps and settings. Unless the bigpond or telstra apps are part of the system apps rather than installed apps then you might loose those.

I am not really sure, I don't think so though. I believe the non branded ones are pretty much global ROMs, and the localisation is typically only from the providers apn, the internet and mms settings that you download at the start.

It should be, I bought it from the Sony Central shop in Chatswood so direct from Sony. Jeesh, you would think these models would get the update first. I see some posts on Whirlpool with others in the same situation.
I've tried on PC Companion, Bridge for mac and the phone itself.
I got mine at Harvey Norman here in Melbourne - update appeared same as the others...strange yours didn't
I did flash the Singtel version that was posted in General so thanks to the OP for this - going to have some flashing to do this evening

Yeah, it's quite outdated :crying:
The phone is unlocked from Telstra but Telstra branded. That's why I hate branded phone, but Telstra offers 2 year warranty service. and Sony is quite unstable phone, easily got bricked.
I did install CWM recovery and root it.
Does it affect to OTA update? Should I unroot it to have the OTA update?

No, your TA will be fine. When I upgraded it force closed the camera twice then after it was fine.
I am having another look at this file, because the FTF creation has changed slightly from the Xperia Z.
It shows an update on Sony Companion but not OTA. I am waiting for OTA coz I don't want to lose my root.

This is my first ever FTF flash on the Z1. It was a telstra branded phone.
I will note that I un-ticked 'data' under the flashtool wipe options on my initial flash of your FTF. I preferred to keep my settings intact, but that wasn't a deal breaker.
No matter what I did (re-flashing, rebooting, changing apps, etc), camera was broken for a couple of hours... I was getting a bit panicky.
I decided to let PC Companion to fix it by clicking 'your device is up to date' and in the pop-up selecting 'repair my phone'. It picked up as a generic 4.3 device, re-downloaded the 14.2 firmware and installed it. Part of that process is a factory wipe. Camera works now and I have firmware from Sony server. It is possible a full wipe would have achieved the same result, but I was looking for the most reliable, first try, answer.
Thanks for the FTF, though. I now have an unbranded 4.3 Z1.
flash rom
I have a Telstra branded Z1, so if I flash generic stock Australian rom and change the software id to match will I still receive OTA updates like it was from the factory. Phone details are : model number: c6903 build number 14.1.g.2.259 software id : 1277-2878 r3a . thanks in advance
When I flash UK-Vodafone firmware SuperiorAuto can capture 20MP but in Europe firmware can 8.3MP in SuperiorAuto mod,why is there difference?

mmm I think I may give it another 2 weeks and see if our slack network provider pushes the update. They're generally about 3 weeks behind the world. If nothing, then I may just give this a crack.
The question is, can I hold out for 2 weeks??
I see some FTF's have 20mp auto with the camera. Is this 20 or the normal 8mp?

It's not worth waiting , this update makes your phone really fly, and better battery, camera is slightly better, I don't seem to have 20MP, but am sure it will be ported to work soon

this is the real UK Generic then. What's the difference to the FR Generic?
do you also flash it through flashtool as normal, as my bootloader is locked.

Probably very little differences such as bookmarks and pre-installed apps. Also obviously the default language
Yes just flash using flashtool. As it's official it will work perfectly with a locked bootloader.

Guys, Please bare with me if i am asking a stupid question as I am new to sony devices so have a lot of confusion. My device has a 3 Firmware on it but I want to get the UK Generic one.
I have downloaded the file posted in this thread and would want to know what exactly can be the cons of flashing it?
will i lose any DRM keys or X reality or anything by doing that or is it totally safe?.
Also if i backup all my data using sony's backup app, would I be able to restore it after flashing the Generic file.

There is something wrong with this file linked (D6503_17.1.A.2.55_EURO_LTE.ftf), it may be corrupt. I flashed it to my Xperia Z2 to de-brand from EE but it sent it into a boot loop instead of restarting. I Managed to get flash tool to work in debug mode again by by plugging in the usb cable and flashed D6503_23.5.A.0.570_RU.ftf which I found on the net as a generic uk Android marshmallow 6.0.1 update and all was well again. After that the next update came from Xperia Companion updating software in the normal way. It is possible that I did something wrong. If you are debranding a UK Z2 just find the latest Marshmallow 6.0.1 update file (D6503_17.1.A.2.55_EURO_LTE.ftf) and flash it to your phone . You don't need to unlock the boot loader of need to root the phone. I'm too new to the forum it won't let me post links to the marshmallow files sorry you will have to find them yourself.
Instructions here:
Pre-requisites
Download and install Flashtool
Enable USB Debugging on phone. Head over to Settings>> Developer options
Enable Unknown sources on the phone by navigating to Settings>> Security
Steps to Debrand Sony Xperia Z2
Step-1: Ensure that you have installed all necessary drivers for Sony Xperia Z2 on the computer. You may do this by installing PC Companion or Sony Update Services (SUS)
Also connect the Xperia Z2 to the computer before starting the process to download USB and ADB drivers. You will find the necessary drivers once Flashtool is installed in the following location, C:Flashtooldrivers
Step-2: Download the following FTF file, which will debrand Xperia Z2
Download link: Xperia Z2 D6503 Generic UK 17.1.A.2.55 (1282-0226)
This is UK generic firmware and will work on any D6503 model and provide several language options. You may download FTF link according to your region
Step-3: Move the downloaded FTF file in C:Flashtoolfirmwares folder
Step-4: Open Flashtool on the computer (Click on the lightning bolt symbol and select Flashmode then click OK
Step-5: Select the downloaded firmware in the left column.
Note: If you want to keep all existing apps and date, ensure that Data is not selected. Press the Flash button
Step-6: You should see Flashtool is "Preparing files for sharing"
When the prompt appears, connect the Xperia Z2 to the computer and switch off the phone. Press and hold Volume Down button while plugging the USB cable into the phone
Step-7: The installation process should begin now
Step-8: When the 'Flashing finished' message appears in Flashtool, remove the phone from the computer and restart it. This process will take a few minutes
That's it. The Xperia Z2 should now be debranded to UK generic firmware.

US Based Z3c Firmware Available

I saw someone reference there was a US Firmware for the Z3c available, I am new to Sony phones but digging some more I found this a the tool to download and flash Firmware to Sony phones. http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
Anyone try the US based Firmware yet? If so post your findings, any changes, etc. I would bet the Z3c will show the LTE symbol when running this software version.

I'm running it right now and just posted the firmware in the stock FTF thread. It does have the LTE icon.

What carrier are you using? Notice any differences in the software other than what you said? Were you stock and used that flash tool, no unlocked bootloader?

AT&T, stock with locked bootloader
Use flashtool, here's a good guide.
Skip down to 'Stage 4 - Flashing' and make sure to un-check APPSLOG and DATA when flashing so that it doesn't wipe data.
The only differences I've seen are a couple of different pre-loaded apps (Crackle TV?) which I quickly deleted. The data icon is LTE, and there's a Wireless Emergency app for managing CMAS alerts.

Thanks for the link. I doubt this will enable a US Software OTA to come through since it's probably tied to the IMEI number but still nice to have a pretty easy way to flash the US software.
Sorry if it's a stupid question, but what advantage is there to switching to this US Firmware? Would I be at a disadvantage if I don't want to bother switching?
I just flashed my Z3C with Customized DE, It got LTE icon for data
If the LTE icon is the only difference then I'm not even gonna bother.

That guide says a locked bootloader is required. Is there any way to flash the US firmware on a Z3C with an unlocked bootloader?
Xperia Blog has a good guide for those that are interested.

Flashtool will work with an unlocked bootloader.
The locked reference has to do with using SUS / PC Companion to download the firmware image from Sony used to create the FTF for Flashtool. I already created an FTF for US firmware, and we can use XperiaFirm to download directly without using SUS / PCP.

Ah ok, I see.
Just wanted to share my results for those of you asking if it's seemingly only aesthetic (LTE vs 4G symbol)...
I was noticing seemingly worse signal after switching from my T-Mobile HTC One M8. I did several speed tests and capped out at around 25Mbit. For what it's worth, on my M8, I could consistently hit 40-60Mbit.
I ended up flashing the US firmware and my speed tests are back in the normal range. Seems to be like US T-Mobile wasn't fully compatible w/ the UK firmware (baseband maybe?)
I'm new to Sony phones, does updating firmware require a Windows machine, any way to update in Linux?

Im getting 23mps and the signal hasn't been that great. I am sure it is due to the UK firmware.
It's the same bands and correct APN settings. Should the firmware really matter? And my biggest worry is if I switch I won't get the OTA's.
I don't know if the firmware had anything to do with it but this is after updating to US firmware and I was getting 30-40mbps previously.

1) Probably but unsure. The firmware I got was a Customized US from Sony so only time will tell.

T-Mobile has a an update status page for devices.

In case people did not know, T-Mobile has an update status page for Android devices. You can see how far along the 5.0 update has come for your device. It was mentioned on Phonearena.

Bit pointless for this section, as there's no Z3...

It means Sony has not updated TMO with the info yet. That is understandable considering the international models don't even have a test version according to PTRCB. Once it's in testing (for TMO version: D6616) it will be listed.
Since you have the international version you will probably get it much earlier than us.
The Z1/Z3 are finally mentioned, status shows as "Manufacturer Development".
Now Z1s and Z3 in 2nd stage.

Proof? I still see them in Manufacturer Development.
My bad. I thought those devices listed under T-Mobile Testing are updated list.

I doubt we will get it before the international versions.

Yep. Seems like a long wait..
Looks like bad news for the Z3, they are saying update is "Months" away not weeks.
"We’re working very hard on the Xperia Z3 Lollipop update for T-Mobile customers – and to ensure customers get the best possible experience with this update. We’re hoping to roll it out in upcoming months and will share more details as they’re available." -T-Mobile

Same here. Sony and T-Mobile are probably sad that this phone is now rooted lol I'm surprised that they tried very hard to block people from rooting it but screw them!
Root alone won't let you update to a generic 5.0.2 ROM though. Still need to unlock the bootloader.

No you do not. You can have root on a Sony lollipop rom with a locked bootloader.
However, if you mean CM or AOSP etc, then you always need an unlocked bootloader for that

If you have recovery you can create a pre-rooted flashable zip from a lollipop FTF for your device and flash it.

thanks. i found some rooms that have pre-rooted, such as [D66XX]{5.0.2} Flashable stock Lollipop pre-rooted collection & XZ dualrecovery
I assume that wifi calling will be lost with an international ROM. How about HD voice?
T-Mobile Z3 update got certified! (23.1.C.0.381)

Not yet listed as "testing" on TMO site though, so I don't know if they received it it yet.
