Touchscreen issues solved after 05Q update - ONE General

I was one of the unlucky persons to deal with the dreaded touchscreen problem. When on the 44s build, it sometimes got so bad the phone was almost completely useless. The touch screen problems didn't go away in spite of flashing countless Rome with almost every possible combination of kernels.. But nothing seemed to help. The touchscreen got noticeably worse when the phone got hot..i was almost at the verge of giving up.. But that's when it happened.. The 05Q update solved all of my touchscreen problems. I've checked with touch Explorer and even multi touch works flawlessly.. I understand that this problem was identified as a grounding defect.. And I did buy it.. But since the 05Q update seems to have completely solved this issue, my faith in oneplus has been restored.. Did anyone else notice this? What could be the reason?

Nothing's changed for me :c

I never used to have problems with the touchscreen, but since update, the double tap to wake sometimes doesn't work.
It's really annoying to have to try it several times when you want to check the phone. (I already got used to not using physical buttons).
Anyone else with this issue?

For me, it got better. I would have terrible touchscreen problems.. I wouldnt be able to wake the device via D2W and mostly resorted to the wake up button.. but ever since the update, the battery's been a little bit on the downside..but the touchscreen problems have been completely eliminated and i'm okay with the tradeoff.. I just dont understand how they've managed to fix it if it was a hardware issue? im greatly confused..

I've been facing touch issues after this update. The double tap is working hardly and even the top middle dot of the pattern lock seems unresponsive or experiencing ghost touches
Anyone have similar problems or with possible solutions ? Also for heavy battery drain

I'm having some issues too with this! Sometimes, even the physical power button doesn't work and I have to press it multiple times!

I m also facing same issue
Any solutions to resolve this issue?

Glad to hear it is better for you. Unfortunately, I still am experiencing ghost touches... Double tap on the other hand is fine.

For those who are still having touchscreen issues.
I wasn't having any issues at 44S. OTA update to 05Q and I immediately noticed issues with 'fast typing'. None of the hacks online worked ex. cat some touch-screen related system file..
Looks like 05Q is legitimately slower performance-wise and at least to me the keyboard is unusable.
Anyway, I spent quite a bit of time on this. Updated to a CM12 nightly and it's gotten a lot better although the issue is still there although less noticeable. Just try typing 'this' quickly. I get a swipe gesture activated once in a while (vs pretty much 90% of the time on 05Q).
02/23 Nightly CM seems very stable and clean. Very usable

From my experience I could say that these 'gost touches' are related to a system slowness more than a touch problem. Sometime I feel I could type fast without any problem, sometime I had to type very slow. Also this is rom related. Some are really snappy others not so. Another thing to mention is that keyboard feels better after a reboot, so maybe a memory leak!?
Inviato dal mio A0001 utilizzando Tapatalk

I just hope it's not the hardware touchscreen / sensor. My observations are consistent with everything you mentioned above. Memory leak feels possible or some unoptimized code. I don't see any issue in ex Chrome. It's mostly Hangouts app that's super slow so perhaps Google also pushed some update to Hangouts that slowed things down enough to be noticeable.

Same here - things were perfect on 44S, but screen has just turned to crap on 05Q!
Did you try going back to 44S, or did you just go straight to CM12 nightlies?
Cheers,

I went straighten to CM12 nighties. The touchscreen issues still does up but not as much. Makes me think is a hardware issue with the touchscreen independent of firmware perhaps just didn't notice before. When I went to CM12 I did a full wipe, so everything from scratch

I think I may have found a solution! Recently I enable the touchscreen buttons, but yesterday I disabled the quick launch shortcuts and it seems to be working.
Go to DEVICE - Buttons and disable it there!
Hope that helps!

Hey,
Which touchscreen buttons do you mean?
I made a short video showing the problem using a multi-touch test app. Basically if I have two or more touch points that are horizontally near each other, the screen totally flips out!
Thanks,
Su

A thread i created in the oneplus one forum after a bit of research from my side

Crazy stuff.. Looking at the video, I have almost bought that it's a software problem..

Mine works fine if and only if you turn off all those double tap settings (wake/sleep) and turn off ambient display.

I've gone through all the settings menus and turned off everything gesture or touch related... also switched to onscreen buttons.
Still have the same problem
I emailed support to arrange an RMA, but they want me to wait for Lollipop... WTF?

TouchScreen issue resolved in gingerbread?

So before the gingerbread update i was experiencing the nexus one touch screen issue. This issue would happen mostly when the phone would be charging or warm, and the y coordinate of the touch screen would be off by about an inch. (I would post a link to youtube but i can't yet... new member =/ ) So if you try to answer your phone while the defect was active, you couldnt, because touching the slider would be recognized as trying to touch the 'menu' key on the phone.
Anyway, after gingerbread got pushed to my device, i have yet to experience this issue!! i havent been able to find anyone reporting this resolution. i'm extremely please about this because it was becoming a deal breaker after i missed an important call because i couldnt answer my phone due to the issue!!
anyone else experiencing this resolution!?
In my experiences it does still occur, although seemingly less frequently. It is a hardware problem though so probably won't disappear regardless of the OS

Yup. For some reason I have worse now than before. Maybe I'm just using it more now. Lately it's driving me nuts, to the point of actually looking at a replacement.

this is where I was at before the push, i was seriously considering the incredible s, but for now it seems to have completely disappeared from my device...
I've also heard its a hardware issue (I do believe it to be true, not questioning that), so i found it extremely odd that its not happening now on my device.
Guess I'll just keep my mouth shut and enjoy
Observed no difference. The bug still appears every now and then. Doesn't bother me much because it usually occurs when the phone's charging. Not when I'm on the street using it. I heard that removing any kind of screen protectors can actually solve this problem.

I had it terribly after the GB OTA, I wiped cache & dalvik and it all but went away. One occurrence in a week and a half, and I've been using the crap out of the phone.
Slightly off topic question: On stock Android, is wiping cache the same as wiping the dalvik cache? The stock recovery doesn't have the "wipe dalvik" option, only "wipe cache".
No it's not, but if you have root you can wipe it manually by removing the contents /data/dalvik-cache/

Thanks. But every time you flash an official update, the cache gets wiped and rebuilt though, right? That's why after each update it takes a long time to boot.
I still have the touchscreen issue. i think it will never be solved because it's an hardware issue, not a software one.
So the problem still appears, maybe a little less frequently.
I still have the prob but it's different with 2.3
Before 2.3, the touchscreen problem was unpredictable and could happen at almost anytime, whether charging or not. I replaced the handset but the problem persisted.
Since upgrading to GB, I've noticed a very clear pattern. If I'm charging my device and unplug it before it is fully charged, the touchscreen becomes extremely erratic to the point I must reboot the phone. If it's allowed to charge completely it's okay.
It never happens when it's is not charging.
Still annoying as hell but I've moved to Africa and having the device replaced is a real challenge. So I guess I'm stuck with until I replace it.
Still has issue
Stock, no modification at all. Today when I was rearranging icons in ADW Launcher, it seems that the screen registered click below where my finger actually was, same as the problem I saw previous to updating to 2.3.3. The phone was not hooked to a charger at the time.
Stock GRI40 here on my Nexus One...same issues that i've already had with Froyo. As it was posted before, it's a hardware issue; and the Nexus S is the new kid on Google's block, so i'm not expecting anything to improve our screens.

Theoretically, there is a chance they could fix a software workaround for the hardware problem. If the error happens in only specific circumstances, and ALWAYS happens in those circumstances, then just teach the phone to know when those circumstances are happening, and tell it what to do in those cases. However, I doubt anyone at Google is working too hard on this problem. I agree, it seems to be much less frequent than it ever was. Seems likely that they may have added a little something to help us out.

Or more likely, it could be unintentional.
So even with official OTA it's still here?
Remember me of the ''crazy'' screen problem we had before while charging, perhaps it's a hardware problem after all
This is a main reason why tomorrow i'm getting a new galaxy s.
I tried a lot of custom and stock roms, I sent my phone to HTC and they replaced hardware, but this issue still persist. And it cause me a lot of problems, especially while driving...
I also still get that glitch but not as frequently. I noticed that i didn't need to reboot the phone to fix it. All i need to do is tap the power button to shutoff the screen and then re-tap to turn it back on and it'll show the lock screen. Slide to unlock and the screen is precise once again.
The bug is still there for me also. However, I didn't seem to have it as bad as some did originally, and now I've noticed that it's happening even less frequently.

Keyboard Issues...Just me?

In the past few days, my keyboard has been acting up. I've been using Smart Keyboard pro since the day I got my phone and LOVED it, but for the past few days, it's been acting the bollix. Basically, I could be pressing the delete button for maybe 4 or 5 times, and it would enter 2 z's and delete 3 charachters?
I thought that it might just be the keyboard, so I switched to the default one, and it did happen, but not as much. I have just installed the Gingerbread Keyboard from the market, and it seems to be working ok, but it's still annoying. Anyone else had any problems with their keyboard entering random letters?

already done that
I too have had this problem twice now.
The first fix was to install Gingerbread Keyboard and it seemed to fix.
Then i had the same problem again (If i pressed "p" it would also press "t" and pressing "delete" would also press "c") and fixed it by cleaning the screen with a wet wipe.
The problem for me when it happens is basically when you press the right hand side of the screen in landscape mode, it also think you are pressing the middle of the screen at the same time.
Its only happened twice so im not all that bothered.
Try cleaning the screen with wet wipe and see if it fixes.
I've been using swype...and as cool and innovative as it is...I'm always having to double our triple check my text msgs and posts...lately I've been having to correct my corrections..its a bit ridiculous so I'm trying to get into the habit if reading what I type every few words..

I just posted a thread about a multitouch issue on the xperia play. I think it may be causing your problems. It may not make sense what I am saying right now but if you read my thread it might make sense.
Basically when you are typing fast you will definitely have 2 touch points on the keyboard. and the Xperia Play is counting more than 2 touch points. So your third touch maybe registered as a 3rd finger.
Here is my post if you want to take a look
OK. I've just cleaned the screen with a wet wipe. I'm going to post this message and leave it if it makes any incorrect entries.
Seems to have worked. I will now try landscape orientation.
OK, so portrait seems to have worked well enough. I'm trying out the landscape input now. Seems to be working. I was kinda worried about this problem, but cleaning the screen seems to have sorted it out.
Also, I have installed swype, but I do not really like it. Its awkward. I used to love it on my WinMo 6.1 phone (Omnia) however, I do not feel that i should be restricted to what keyboard I can use because of the phone not responding to input properly.
Back to portrait, OK. Seems to have worked. Nope, its doing it again now. Dunno why?

I have a question.
Is this problem consistent like it happens every single time or does it come and go?
I personally use swype and I love it. I have not had this problem yet.
It's not a software problem, it is hardware.
When mine has had the problem, it does it on stock keyboard, chinese keyboard and gingerbread keyboard.
Basically, for me, when i touch the furthermost right hand side of the screen in landscape mode, it also registers as touching in the middle of the screen too.
Well it only started happening in the past few days. I'm gonna reflash back to 2.3.3 stock and see does that fix the issues. If not what's everyone's suggestions?

Well that was just my theory to the OP. The multitouch problem does exist but I thought the problems with the OP's keyboard was related to this. Turns out its not.

Incoming Verizon Update

I'm on T-Mobile but I just got home and phoned up my co-worker who has the Verizon version. Says he noticed a slight improvement in overall touchscreen responsiveness. Biggest problem that he said was fixed was ghost touches (touching one portion of the screen caused a menu to pop up somewhere else for example) being completely gone. Idk, it's really starting to feel like a lot of these bugs should have gotten squashed in the product testing phase. Wonder if this is the same update as the mandatory one T-Mobile got way back. I wouldn't think so since the T-Mobile update did not fix touch screen issues for anyone.

Forgive me if I've misunderstood QC 2.0. But my understanding is it can charge at 9V or 12V. So just because it's still at 9V doesn't definitely mean that the phone isn't receiving more power, the amps could have also increased.
To provide 15W, for instance, you'd need 3A at 5V, 1.67A at 9V, and 1.33A at 12V.
It's possible to still get 9V from the charger, but draw more amps, for faster charging. Using something like Battery Monitor Widget, to monitor the current provided to the battery, would be a useful tool.

SIdeloading apps problem???
UPDATE: Nevermind - issue not related to Verizon update... Had Twilight app kick on after sunset and that overlay app (reducing blue light) is what caused the touch issue. (Credit: brainwash1)
Enabled installing from "Unknown Sources" and installed an app yesterday no problem
I just did the Verizon system update and reboot, now on sideloading install I get the permissions list with CANCEL & INSTALL buttons at the bottom. Looks normal, but the INSTALL button doesn't respond to any tapping. Tried landscape mode also, just to move where the button was located on the screen, but no dice. CANCEL button works fine.
[Also, if there are many permissions, so I need to scroll, the INSTALL button starts as a NEXT button, then changes to INSTALL when done scrolling to bottom. Doesn't matter, neither NEXT not INSTALL buttons function]
Not sure what else would cause this. It seems like the Verizon system update broke something. Anyone else having new problem sideloading after the update???

OK, then the update isn't stored in the cache partition as other phones. It's a bit drastic but a factory data reset will do it. I ended up taking the update and then froze the updater. It did improve the touch response so I have no need for further updates. It updates the kernel because that is where the necessary changes are.

It might be worth replacing. I first had a black one that had the problem pretty bad. I returned the phone and went back to my S6 for a while but ended up picking up a blue one from Best Buy and this one works great. The touch wasn't that sensitive before the update but now it works really good. My battery is really good on the blue model too. Keep in mind I paid full retail for mine so when I returned the first one there was no restocking fee. I go to BestBuy just for that reason.
I was having some touch issues just as many are experiencing. Just today I installed the Google keyboard from the play store. I enabled the new keyboard and stopped using the LG keyboard. I have been using it this way for about an hour and I am much happier. I am hopeful this will take care of my issue. This is on a Verizon G4.
I took the update yesterday and threw my Verizon G4 on a Qi Wireless Charger last night and the bug where it has crashed in the AM is still there. Not sure about that.
Basically every time I wake up on a night of Qi Charging, the phone is crashed and freaks out.
Update:
My phone is now getting hot and doing the screen brightness bounce like it did out of the box. Going from 100 to 90 to 80 to 90 to 80 to 100 to 90.

I switched from the LG keyboard to the google keyboard day one so that was never a source of my issues.. Just today.. twice post update I have had ghost touches launch the app switcher icon while texting and caused me to switch apps on accident.. Doh.. It's frustrating to say the least.
Never had a problem with wireless charging besides it's slow.
No screen brightness fluctuations.
No ghosting on screen.
Sounds like there's an awful big batch of bad phones.

There are definitely bad ones. I returned mine again a few hours ago because my outdoor pictures would come out either dark or overexposed real bad. I tried manual mode and auto and no matter what I did they were awful. So I'm back to my S6 again, it was fun while it lasted.

Screen sensitivity & recalibration

I received a Z17 a few days ago and have really struggled with it. The phone feels really good but I am finding operation really difficult - the screen seems excessively sensitive. Most of the time when I touch or sweep the screen it register multiple touches - I hear multiple ticks. More often than not the app just tapped on opens then immediately closes (not force closing just going into background). Operating the phone is near impossible.
Is there a way to re-calibrate the screen sensitivity?
Short video showing the problem - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpP6t2C3xeM
Bee
I don't have that issue. My screen issue is that it's too dark. I have to put it over 75% brightness or higher. I have a Bluboo Maya Max that also have an LCD screen from JDI that is pretty bright at 25% level.
Brightness seems OK here - although I might not be the best person as I typically run my screens at minimum/very low brightness unless I am out in the sun.
The sensitivity issue is driving me nuts though.
Bee
Updated to latest software version (2.44) but this has not improved the situation.
I have noticed that this is worst when I pick up and use the phone after it has been sat for a while. Things settle down if I continue to use the screen for an extended period of time - it seems like the screen is hugely sensitive and is picking up static on my hands.
Hopefully there will be a way to recalibrate the screen, maybe once root, unlocked bootloader and custom roms all become possible.
Still surprised no one else has reported this issue. Really hoping to find a way to re-calibrate the screen sensitivity.
Here is a video showing the problem. Basically it is nearly impossible to use the phone when you first pick it up, it does seem to improve after continue use.

If you turn up the volume (and watch the red home indicator) you will hear/see that each touch is being registered multiple times.

Yes - chrome works. You will need to get from apkmirror or similar.
Like others I tried installing google framework & play but this didn't work. Google music would run but unless you have local files you can't do anything with it.
I REALLY want to like this phone but so far it just isn't usable as a daily driver.

Updated to latest software version (2.44) but this has not improved the situation.

I have the same problem, exactly as you describe it! It appears that it's the Recent Apps button that has the problem (at least on my phone) as it is the only one that activates on its own. It also seems as if it "accumulates" button presses when left alone, so it has to "release" them during the first couple of minutes that you pick it up again. Then it is more or less ok.

I was hoping the same but this is not the case unfortunately. Problem is still there with the latest Resurrection Remix (5.8.4). It's a shame, it's a great phone otherwise but this bug is driving me mental
Not just me!
Sort of pleased someone else has the same problem! Agree that it isn't fixed in RR. Hopefully there will eventually be a solution.
I tend to deal with it by holding the phone between my two palms (i.e. holding my palm fully across the screen) for a second or so when I pick the phone up after it has been sat for a while. This seems to reduce the sensitivity (or remove static build up?) and things work normally.
Of course this shouldn't be necessary and not something you want to do when trying to answer a call.

Hello Boboskins
Can't access to your video
Sadly still not found a solution. I have tried RR (up until about 10 days ago) and now using Mokee. Appreciate your comments on the recent updates - I will take a look at the log in case the latest RR updates solve anything.
EDIT: Ursus91, just took a look and Photobucket appears to have stopped allowing 3rd party views. I will upload somewhere else and update the link once I am done.
@boboskins : thanks, it should be helpful to understand the problem you encounter. I'm not sure to understand. And I'm still waiting to use the phone every day
I have the same problem
Same problème here ! When i use the phone it seems it close app or back like i hit the button. :/ Really annoying :s
Hello,
I have the same problem too. The sole solution from GeekB is to return the phone for repairing...
I have it sometimes on the left button (in the major cases), the middle button has actually no problems, the right, sometimes.
I use the middle button to come back to "the main view" (icons) and then, the left button seems going alive.
I'm not sure it is a hardware problem
Edge gestures issue
Greetings!
I've just started using Nubia Z17 Lite and found out that the specific edge gesture to control the brightness level doesn't work on my unit. Does anyone know if this is a bug that can be resolved by an update or did anyone have the same issue and has fixed it?
I'm quite sure the problem isn't with the hardware because other edge gestures seem to work fine.
Thanks ?
Nubia Z17 black screen
Good evening. I own a Nubia Z17 8gb ram 128gb rom and today had a problem. His screen is black and the LED on the menu button is on. It obeys no command. He did not fall, everything perfect. Could someone help me with this problem?

Ghost touches near the volume up and down buttons

I have 2 PH-1s one of them has this random issue that Essential support says is software related.
Would appreciate input from fellow owners

Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
I had this happen to me today after the Oreo update, but it was perfectly fine with stock 7.1.1
Anyone else seeing this?
I have noticed ghost touches as well following 8.1 official update. They now happen about 1-2 times per day. Nothing changed from before except OS version. Didn't have this issue on the beta either.
Turning the screen off and back on fixes it temporarily, but it comes back.
FYI
I got in touch with Essential Support the second time, and they got the phone replaced with in warranty service.
I also got in touch with Essential support a few days ago for the second time. I can tell their support is from the US which I appreciate in a company, but this phone is agitating and their troubleshooting makes it worse. All manufacturers from Apple to Samsung may make you jump through these hurdles but it's same issues with this phone. I believe they know it. So why waste my time asking about water damage and drops? Come on. I'm going to do a hard reset since I took the latest update but have already switched back to my s8 as my DD. I'll check if turning the screen off and back on again fixes it. Even if it's briefly I could maybe live with doing that. I couldn't get any letters to register when typing a text in the standard messaging app.
I bet the issue has something to do with the hardware. Ceramic and titantium? I know my reception is so much worse when Sprint's network is being put to the test on the highways with the Essential when compared to the s8. It may just end up being the perfect media player in the car. 128GB of music and use it as the Waze/Google Maps device...

Good to hear. In Canada we don't have that option. Let us know when f the problem is fixed or if it happens again. Like I said in my case the issue really started on Oreo 8.1.
Could grip detection have something to do with this?

No, literally you don't touch the screen and this issue happens. Turning the screen off and back on fixes it.
