Can you link me to it so I can test it on my Note 4 too and get back to you? Because the videos I've tried give me the 1440p option. But bare in mind, you need to have a pretty good connection to be able to stream in such resolution.

Yes, I update YouTube every time there's an update on the Play Store.
Both of those videos you sent me play in 1440p just fine. It may just be your connection. YouTube won't stream in high quality unless it detects a high speed connection.

Me too, so it's not that either.
I honestly have no idea, but I suspect it's a problem on Google's side, not the phone's.

Try tubemate. It gives every available resolution in every possible connection n device. BTW you can use 3rd party players with tubemate too which is a good thing if you use MX player. Download the tubemate apk. There's no playstore version. My YouTube doesn't even give more than 480p. It's just device oriented. It will not give you higher res than your phone's display res.

Sign out of youtube, in app manager, force stop youtube, clear cache and data. Sign in to youtube. You may need to fo it few time untill 1440 option become avaiable. Sometimes helps restarting phone before signing in to youtube.

Music videos not on youtube app?

My girlfriend was trying to watch a Lady Gaga video on my N1 but it did not show up in the search results of Youtube. Then I tried to search another music video and had the same issue. We got on the laptop and noticed that the videos we were searching on the phone are actually on Vevo. Is there anyway to watch music videos from vevo?

Short answer: For you, no.
Long answer: If you flash the Desire ROM (click my sig) and change the UAString to desktop, yes. I just tested it on the following video and it worked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrO4YZeyl0I. But it's probably way way more trouble than it's worth for you.

Paul,
I'm guessing it worked because the Desire ROM has Flash implemented?

Whether ANY video appears on mobile devices is up to the person who uploads the video. There is a setting to specifically allow mobile devices to see the video that has to be set.
Most video companies do NOT check that option to purposely block mobile devices.
A fantastic work around is the App TubeDroid. It lets you search and download ANY Youtube video to your phone, whether it is enabled for mobile or not
It seems like rooting is a headache if you don't have the patience. I think i rather just for the official release of flash on the Nexus 1. And besides I don't want to void my warranty.

TubeDroid is the sh!t! There are free methods to do the same, but none of them are as alsick, IMHO, and well worth the $3. (Even Dolphin sucks compared to it, and I don't like Dolphin Browser). I think the best part is, you can DL it in different quality levels, the best is for HD on a PC, the next level is for the full use of the N1, and so forth.

HD2 vs N1 video quality

What is the deal with the N1 youtube video??..or video in general. It is complete crap. My wife got the HD2 a few days ago and we pulled up the same youtube videos and I was shocked. My video on the n1 was choppy pixelated and in some cases it didn't even use the entire screen.
What is going on? I don't watch a ton of youtube videos on my phone but thought it was just the videos that were uploaded.
I paid $574 for this phone and I cant watch a decent mp4 video. Am I missing something. I currently have the M Desire ROM but had CM and and Stock for video was terrible.
Any thoughts peeps?? That said I love my n1 but feel like I have been sold short.
Did you play the video on HQ? Not sure if you're aware, but you have the option to do so when you're on YouTube. let me know the outcome. I love the video quality on my N1.
Hold on. I am quite certain that you're doing something wrong. When connecting to youtube, are you using WiFi? Are you choosing to watch the Video in High Qaulity? When playing movies onto your phone, what format are you using? I don't know if there is a native format that works, but I paid the 1.99 for ACT1, which plays all my files very well. I am certain that the 'video quality' is much more intense on the N1 due to the AMOLED screen, how can you even compare to a TFT? Are you watching a movie while walking down the street on a sunny day?
Are you sure you are watching the high quality version of the video? I believe the N1 defaults to the low quality videos on the youtube app. The high quality ones on my N1 looks great imo.

when you're on wifi it automatically plays it on HQ, but if you're on 3G you have to hit the menu button and choose to play it on HQ. It'll take a bit to load.

without " " and spaces and click done.
-now open YouTube and search any video to download
-use full screen or desktop view

There are a few things I could have you try, if you were rooted. But since it seems you're not here are a couple of other things you can try.

Also long press home, select task manager. Go to RAM tab, and clear memory.
Also, are you on the latest update? What browser are you using?

muchmovies.com movies lag streaming
Thank you for your advice I'm going to try that and yes my phone is updated with the latest software. What is strange is that it doesn't lag on YouTube it's just seems to be there. But it makes me mad because it's a great site to stream new movies and it works fine on my mom's iphone. I am using Google Chrome when I go to try it. Thanks keep up with ttrying to help the new guy.
I'm using the stock browser and it worked fine on the movie I tried. Great quality, quick loading.

If you have the Note 4 and YouTube version 5.9.0.10 you will be able to watch it at 1440p. For some reason they removed 1440p from versions higher than 5.9

10 seconds captured is 60 MB. The 64 Gb is good enough. I was using the on board storage cause I forgot the my 64gb card at home and didn't notice till I was done. Everything came out to a little over 1 gb of video.

I think Google/YouTube shut off options higher than 720p via server side. You could probably root the phone and change the build prop to see stuff beyond 720p...

Interesting. The stock version that came with the 4 is 4.7. This actually allows you to view 1080p. But once you update to the latest version, it removes 1080p. Lol

Forgot to mention that install the version of the youtube app from post 5. Then clear cache, clear data, and reboot.

I got the youtube to give the option to use 1440p but when I click on the option it just continues playing at the same resolution and doesn't buffer, which leads me to think something is broken with the app.

I have that as well but can only get 720p. You may have to be rooted to install the other YouTube. You would need to deleted the one installed first. I have a guide on how to root if you want.
Bump for newcomers.
The 4k video is pretty amazing on a 4k monitor, especially coming from a cell phone. Pretty much jaw dropping sharpness, like looking into the scene. Really cool.
