Galaxy Note 4 - 4k Video Quality - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

This is for anyone looking to get the Note 4 and wanted a sample of the Video quality. The video is done though the Note 4, and nothing was modified or changed in anyway.
You can also get a few photo samples here: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Camera Samples So far the phones camera is awesome in my option.

Looks O.K. but it's hard to tell without having a 4k screen to view it.

true, on the phone it look amazing though. Some people have a 4k Tv or monitor others like me will have to deal with 1080p for now.

What's the file size of the video? Not sure if my 64 GB micro card is enough.

If you have the Note 4 and YouTube version 5.9.0.10 you will be able to watch it at 1440p. For some reason they removed 1440p from versions higher than 5.9

10 seconds captured is 60 MB. The 64 Gb is good enough. I was using the on board storage cause I forgot the my 64gb card at home and didn't notice till I was done. Everything came out to a little over 1 gb of video.

I think Google/YouTube shut off options higher than 720p via server side. You could probably root the phone and change the build prop to see stuff beyond 720p...

Interesting. The stock version that came with the 4 is 4.7. This actually allows you to view 1080p. But once you update to the latest version, it removes 1080p. Lol

I got the youtube to give the option to use 1440p but when I click on the option it just continues playing at the same resolution and doesn't buffer, which leads me to think something is broken with the app.

works for me. I have to set the resolution and then restart the video, but it works.

won't install for me either, however i do have the 1080p option. youtube version 5.10.3.5

I have that as well but can only get 720p. You may have to be rooted to install the other YouTube. You would need to deleted the one installed first. I have a guide on how to root if you want.

Bump for newcomers.

The 4k video is pretty amazing on a 4k monitor, especially coming from a cell phone. Pretty much jaw dropping sharpness, like looking into the scene. Really cool.

Both of those videos you sent me play in 1440p just fine. It may just be your connection. YouTube won't stream in high quality unless it detects a high speed connection.

I honestly have no idea, but I suspect it's a problem on Google's side, not the phone's.
Try tubemate. It gives every available resolution in every possible connection n device. BTW you can use 3rd party players with tubemate too which is a good thing if you use MX player. Download the tubemate apk. There's no playstore version. My YouTube doesn't even give more than 480p. It's just device oriented. It will not give you higher res than your phone's display res.

Slow motion video playback

Anybody notice that the slow motion video only works when viewing from the G4. When I transfered the vid to the computer it played back at regular speed. Im so disappointed that it defeats the purpose of having this feature.

I haven't tested this, but do you recall whether the playback at regular speed happened at a higher than usual framerate (e.g., above 29 or 30 frames per second)?

Wow, different..hmmm
for mine, slow motion speed can adjusted within setting,(can be slowest and fast forward) so i think the device itself will activated slow mod when it reads slow mod data but not in PC..
Basically its normal video with normal frame-rates ..but that's just my thought.

You actually have to slow it down yourself, it just saved the file at a high framerate (120fps), allowing 1/4 speed playback after editing.

I can confirm this, at least to 60fps, on my H815. Higher framerate and G4 is doing the processing to slow it down ulon playback.

Cinema FV-5.... it has a lot of the manual controls that are available from Camera FV-5.. one thing I really like is that you can set it fix focus, then have the volume down set to refocus (or you can tap the screen). This will eliminate the Google Camera's tendency to refocus a little bit too often.
As far slow motion, not sure if there are any 3rd party video apps that'll do that.
To do slow motion on this phone its at the top right, right beside the flash icon. You tap it once for 120 and then again for 240 fps

I mean, it should've updated itself regardless of being stock or not unless you have auto updates off. But you should see the slow motion option now when in video mode, and you may noticed improve photo quality as well.
Proshot has a video mode with manual controls too.
Filmic Pro is great if you want to use your phone for more serious videos.

So, Youtube just enabled HDR for the S8(+)

Just noticed this on my S8+, suddenly have the option to enable HDR and the effect is dramatic. Only works when viewing in full screen. Also noticed that the cropping to enable the video to fill the entire screen doesnt work when HDR is on.
Tried it on my Tab S3 (which also is HDR Capable) and it isn't working...yet.
So if Netflix wont support HDR on the S8, Youtube just did.

Yes i have noticed that it's lagging specially when you watch it in 1440p 60fps HDR slows down the device also try to rotate the video. The same feeling when you try to watch a 4k video on 720p tv. Hope future updates solves the problem.

Looks nice, thanks. I like HDR but I have to admit it makes colors seem oversaturated and brighter than real-life. It's like everyone and their brother posts oversaturated/color enhanced photos on social media, etc., right? Yeah, easy to do in photo-edit programs. But, it looks like HDR does it by default, which makes it pretty but also pretty darn unrealistic. I mean, seriously, just look out your window during the day and the colors aren't oversaturated like HDR! Oh well, still pretty.
Lol I used the hidden settings menu to turn on 2160p

Here's a video of it. The upload quality evidently sucks, but the actual resolution of lockscreen video is a 4k video. With it being cropped out the resolution of ACTUAL video may have dropped, but the YouTube video makes it look like trash.

More than decent. I really like how it goes with transparent notifications.
I'm not sure how the video is scaled when you apply it. Last weekend I was looking for some HD clips that were exactly 1440x2960p to test but no luck. I'm really not proficient with video editing software, so I'm now playing with the Note 9 video editor trying to get a decent "vertical" clip.

"Magic Cloth" is my 2nd fav, will upload a "vigneted" portrait version once I got wifi.
Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1htllghs6bl6uag/AAD7YBtq5pl4HYPlgO3HinHba?dl=0
Also "Moonvirus" looks sick!

Not sure where I found this, but there are some pretty good quality options here. Hope you find something that you like.

Took me some time to download and browse the 50 files and was totally worth it.
Great collection and most in portrait orientation :good:
I particularly like this one...
