OK so there are alot of posts from people stating this or that, but i haven't actually seen anybody who really is confirming if they are getting the device or not. Long story short, Who is actually waiting for the galaxy S5 to release, and what carrier? I am also interested if any Devs chime in to confirm they are going to be developing for the device. etc.

Yep, same here, at&t and Elextric Blue. I cant friggin wait to be honest! been saving my upgrade for a while now.
Let's see I have the Vivid which on my AT&T plan is way overdue for an upgrade.
I waited for the Nexus 5 then wasn't happy with the reviews so decided to wait for the S5 but now see the HTC M8 is coming soon followed by the Note 3.
At this rate I'll just sit back and watch all these good phones come and go while I stay with my Vivid!
I will probably get the S5, it' silly being on an AT&T contract and not taking advantage of the subsidized phones.
Of course I'll buy the oppo find 7 instead

if there is no premium, i would jump all over the xperia z2 if it came to sprint, but most likely it wont, so GS5 may be my only option. Still will be a good upgrade from GS3.

Ditto, but on AT&T. If no premium version comes out I'd be fine with the S5, if I like how it feels in-hand.
My S2 is still ticking, but I'm itching for an upgrade.

I can't wait to get a chance to test out the S5 in store as well as the M8, in my opinion that's the only way to get a true feel/judgement for the phone. At the moment I am heavily leaning towards the S5 but the Oppo Find 7 has me a bit excited.

I have an upgrade in April and 2 in June so the plan is for the s5 to get me by til then and hopefully the new HTC and the new LG will both be available by then. I always enjoy Samsung devices when i first get them, but they grow stale quickly and i want something new to play with.

Not going to buy it, for the featured specs it's too big and I don't need a fingerprint sensor (don't trust things like that) and all the fitness gadgets. Also not a big fan of all the bloatware "worth" $500.
Going to wait for the premium version if that doesn't happen, I'll be be buying the S4 Advanced or Blackberry Q20
I was going to get the S5, then said no and got the Note 3. After a week I realized it was just too big for daily use so I did some comparisons on S4's and other devices in the 5" range. I returned it to AT&T and decided to wait for the S5. I immediately pre-ordered my Spigen case and Glas.tR Slim tempered glass protector for mid April time frame. I don't see the 2GB vs 3GB of RAM as an issue since I never really used the 3GB ever on my prior Note 3's (Verizon or AT&T) and when I had the GS4 I never used the 2GB of RAM so I don't see that as an issue. HRM isn't the draw for me, fingerprint isn't either. But 32GB of storage, microSD and what appears to be finally a solid camera IS the draw.

I will FOR SURE NOT GET the ATT or Verizon S5 (I am on ATT network) I have had the ATT Galaxy S, ATT S2, ATT S3, ATT S4 BUT I was lucky to get my S4 before they locked the bootloader down hard. So I was able to use the great Motochopper +Casual root and twrp recovery. So I can flash ANYTHING like normal in the past. ASOP BASED/GE/TW BASED Roms.
The problem with the S4 after MF3 4.3 firmware was it was locked down HARDER and you can only use safestrap. This ONLY allows flashing SOME Roms and NO asop/CM/aokp/GE Roms AT ALL. Just check out the ATT S4 forums for details on using safestrap which is the only type of recovery available for 4.3. Nothing for the 4.4.2 at this time. So IF I got my S4 at a later date there is NO way I would have dealt with it flashing only a limited variety of anything.
ATT already stated they will NOT use any phone except bootloader locked in the future. So I am out. This is the same for Verizon.
Now IF I say YES that I am getting the S5 it will HAVE to be either T-Mobile or International version as at least with the S4 they do NOT lock the bootloaders. So I will be buying it NOT on contract.
So save your money for a unlocked bootloader model rather than using your upgrade. Cause I can guarantee you with ATT or Verizon you will NOT be flashing Roms and stuff very easily or at all. It will most likely be locked down harder than the S4 is now. The 4.4.2 firmware has been out about a month for the ATT S4 and a bootloader bypass has not been found yet.
Even if there is a good bypass (I say good not GREAT) like Safestrap I will NOT spend my money and upgrade on. IF a true bypass to the bootloader is found (like MotoChopper) then I would do it. But MotoChopper only worked on the first two firmwares the S4 had. So IF YOU WANT TO FLASH Roms and such Do Not purchase from ATT or Verizon. This will ALSO limit devs and Roms coming to the locked bootloader versions.

Love the screen and fast charging - ive got unlimited and hotspot though and I dont pay for the phone or plan, so I'm kind of a shoe-in for being perfectly happy.
I'm neutral. My note 3 was worth $360 when I sold it. I paid full retail, minus $7360, minus the incoming $200 rebate, thus I'm out $200 after taxes and what not. However, I could sell this Note 4 tomorrow for $600, thus I'm holding $400, a $40 increase. So with my math, the phone was free.
Due to that, I don't regret it yet, but I sure do miss root.
if I don't get root, I'll regret and either sell this to downgrade to an s5, or downgrade to an international. both downgrades will cost me a lot out of pocket..

Why not just get the dev version?
I'm starting to regret my note 4 purchase, in fact I'm taking it back Friday, probably gonna go with the LG g3 that's what I was gonna get but was talked out of it. I like the note 4 but why all of this Knox crap. To much security for me, screw you verizon! Smart phones are fun but there actually a tool so be carefull.
A bit, only because of not having root. Having come from a T-Mobile note 2, Really annoyed at how locked down Verizon is.
I just switched from tmobile to Verizon, that was a good move cause verizon coverage and reliability is so much better. When I switched I was planning to buy the note 3 cause it was rootable but no one had it in Stock so I bought the note 4. No regrets at all but I will most likely sell the retail version to get the developer edition if root is not achieved soon.
Only a couple things that bother me because of lack of root, not being able to use Titanium and not being able to replace the God awful current version of Google Maps with version 6. The latter was remedied with the discovery of Waze so for now I am good on that front.
Other than that, nope, I LOVE the Note 4 and am good to go for a while.
I have not even used mine much yet. I got it on launch day, but with no root it's just collecting dust right now.
I'm still on my Note 3 with Jasmine rom most of the time. I'm starting to seriously think of selling off my Note 4 and getting the dev edition.

Well if you're really into custom roms which the note 4 obviously doesn't have then you may have a problem. But i had the g3.. The screen just wasn't up to par, extremely poor brightness (try using it in a well lit room or worst outside) the lag caused by the thermal throttling to keep the display from overheating the phone, it may sound like I'm bashing the g3 I'm not but it's just note good as the note in my opinion. It does have root though so Hey that might be the better choice for you.

Aren't you afraid that you'll open it and it will end up being defective? After 14 days, you're stuck with it. I already had to return one defective phone.
By still having unlimited data makes me want root really badly, but I am sure it will be here sooner or later. One thing I do have a thing about is the home button. Call me OCD, but man... it feels like I am double clicking all the time when I am pressing it. Anyone else having the same problem?
No word yet on 5.1.1 and extremely limited ROM support from what I can see....

Seriously I have been with Sammy since the original Galaxy S and for a not even one year old flagship, this is terrible treatment.
They have forgotten Galaxy Note 4 itself, no point in thinking about 910G alone.
Here in India, Samsung is running TV commercials for the Note 5. I think that explains the delay. Samsung will do its best to sell the new model, including holding back updates for the earlier one. Samsung's phone sales have tanked and these are desperate times!
We will see an update (minus any new fefeatures from Note 5) once the mgmt decides the first wave of Note 5 buyers have been dealt with.

For those of you who don't follow the latest news on Galaxy S and Note, all Snapdragon 820 variants of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are bootloader-locked. Yes, you read this correctly. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, it no longer matters which US carrier you have. All SD820 variants are locked.
This is officially the end of the line, folks. No dev community can survive when every device is locked, so what tiny community existed, and by that I mean only hsbadr who has singlehandedly supported our Verizon N4DEs for years now, will evaporate. If you like phones you can root and flash custom ROMs on, you can no longer buy Samsung Galaxy S and Note in USA.
Canadians have a wild card here, they are getting the Exynos 8890 variant but it doesn't support any US voice bands, GSM or CDMA. Unless it's possible to hack the Canadian S7 variant to make it work in US at least on the GSM carriers AT&T and T-Mobile, all Americans are now officially f**ked.
It was nice owning Galaxy Notes all these years. I started with a Note II and I currently have my Note 4 DE, but this is the end of the line. My next phone, regardless of which carrier I'm on, cannot be a Galaxy Note. I'll miss my S-Pen ;_;
I wonder if other manufacturers will follow Samsung's lead. They probably want to do it, but haven't. I wonder if, eventually, our only choice for phones that aren't locked down will be phones like the Nexus.
Although there's no way to really and truly know, I wonder how many people will even care. Of all the people that I've talked to since I started my rooting adventures with an HTC Evo, there has only been a small handful that even know what rooting was and only one other person who actually had a rooted phone. I'd imagine that most people won't care at all.
My Note 4 Dev Edition and Note 2 will be my rooted phones and the Note 6 will be my locked down phone. I guess I'll swap SIMs if I need a rooted phone with cellular data.
Sold my Note 4 last week. Used upgrade to get Note 5, then sold it. Got 6P today, rooted within minutes.

T-Mobile has asked Samsung to work with their engineers to Unlock them. If there is enough outrage and sales slump, they might reverse this or offer and option to unlock like HTC does.
Can someone explain to me the purpose of carriers and manufacturers locking devices down like that? This sort of thing has been going on for a long long time and I've never seen the harm behind it. What can a rooted device do that causes them to want to lock it down again?
To use Verizon as an example. Verizon wants to charge you extra for the ability to tether. Granted there are apps to get around this but with the built-in tethering function, it automatically checks to make sure you are Subscribed to that feature. I'm sure there are more reasons than that.

There is a number of reasons but one major reason is the manufacturer's desire to gain corporate accounts. To do so requires, for most corporate networks, a phone that cannot be rooted thus allowing the installation of apps that cannot be controlled or monitored by corporate IT security personnel. That is why many corporate networks will allow your iphone on their network but not an Android phone. It's all about sales.
Follow the money.
As stated above corporate sales are a big reason. Also the potential the have Android/Samsung/Google or whatever payment applications comprised is likely another large reason. Then you have Ad blocking. Removing those from ones phone kills a large revenue stream for carriers and Google alike. Not just for the individual ads but also the data they consume from your allotment.
The Note 4 is my first Samsung, and probably my last. I did enjoy having the pen, and when my Edge is up next year, I'm hopeful I'll have the cabbage to purchase a Nexus. I like clean and simple things, Samsung has a lot of nice features, but most of them just get in my way.
All that being said I have not missed not being able to root, because mostly my reasons for doing doing so were for battery life on HTCs. My last phone was a Droid MAXX, which had amazing battery (might have been my favorite phone ever). The Note 4 has been good on battery, especially since 5.1.1 (and a factory reset)

unfortunately, i've stopped minding 100% about root. i only mind like 60% now. i mean, every phone i've ever had was rooted. eris, incredible, rezound, dna, s3, s4, g2, moto x pure edition.....and then my poor note 4, never rooted. but honestly, i had the moto x pure, and although it was nice having a new rooted phone, i ended up selling it because i just liked my unrooted note 4 better. note 4, next to my g2, was one of the best phones i've ever had. and now, i decided since i don't mind root as much, but i enjoy samsung camera/screen quality, i bought the s7, and i really like it. sure there's no root, but if i absolutely need root, my galaxy tab s 8.4 is rooted, my nexus 7 is rooted, and my g2 is rooted. if i need wireless hotspot, i'll just pop my sim into my g2. keeping my note 4, though, definitely..and might even buy the note 6 when it comes out, that's how nice this s7 is.
there are ways to unlock bootloaders and root any smart phone but nobody wants to share. all it is ..is code ....if theres a way to write the code then theres a way to unlock code. cant stop root. there will always be away. think about it. a smart phone works like a pc. someone out there has a way but doesnt share

You could try FoxFi on your S7. It's only a little over $7 for the full app, and in my opinion is well worth the price. Like you, I still have a rooted phone, my S4 which I was using prior to my Note 4, and used it for the hot spot before I made the jump to FoxFi. For me, the convenience of just being able to use one phone for everything, especially the hot spot since it's my only Internet connection at home, is worth the small amount charged by the developer, and possible a lot better for the batteries on both phones since they use the most energy when powering on from a cold boot. I think that's how I wound up going through a power supply for my desktop in roughly two years, too many reboots.
so foxfi works perfectly on non rooted phones and completely bypasses wireless Hotspot? unlimited plan i pay 50 a month for here, so i should be able to tether for free from Verizon but they're pieces of shat so clearly we can't.

I just switched to Sprint, (from my Verizon Note 4), Got a Note 5 and rooted it immediately.
Sprint will pay off my $360 Verizon contract balance, and I also will get a $225 cash gift card from COSTCO wireless for switching.
My bill is only $10 higher, and I have unlimited talk and text, which I didn't have with Verizon

It's just as well. Samsung has gone straight downhill. Let's review:
No new features made their way to the Note 4.
Updates took an extremely long time, and they even updated older phones first.
Locked down tight.
Lag. Always lag. All one need do is go to application manager and try to scroll down. (Even my old Droid 2 Global running Gingerbread does this smoothly!) This is but one example of many.
Also, has anyone else noticed how Samsung puts out almost the same exact phone every year?
Anyway, I was done with Samsung before this news. The Note 4 is largely a disaster. The only question now is what to ditch it for. I like the specs of the LG G5, but the software looks awful. So I'm waiting to see what HTC is doing with the 10. If that doesn't pan out, I guess I'll wait for the Nexus.

Not going to happen. Samsung only develops for devices for a two year window, which the tab 4 is no longer in. Plus this device is a low priority for Samsung; there are some tab 4 variants which still haven't even received a lollipop update. Finally, the AT&T devices have locked bootloaders, so there's no ROM development now and likely never will be. So in short, there's virtually no chance of your device getting marshmallow. Sorry

Did the tab 4 come out the same year as the note 4? If so, shouldn't the tab 4 also be getting marshmellow? I think samsung's reasoning behind it may be because it is too slow

It came out in May of 2014. The real reason is it's not enough of a flagship device (i.e. not a big seller) for Samsung to care about. We can talk ourselves around in circles, but at the end of the day, this device is not going to see Marshmallow (other than Cyanogenmod 13, which is impossible for the AT&T and Verizon variants due to the locked bootloader nightmare)
