[Q] Bricked LG G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have successfully bricked my phone after I wanted to install TWRP on it via the app provided by GooglePlay store!
I have downloaded the app and selected my phone (model LG G2xx name - don't know if it was a mistake) and installed it; then the application asked me to restart the phone and enter the TWRP mode to install another CFW.
But to my surprise, the phone got a black screen and when I plugged it on my Windows 8.1 PC i got a lot of partitions asking to format to use.
I used Partager.info 's guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142) successfully under Ubuntu 14.04.1 but what I got was the LG logo without any animation or prompts.
The phone does not turn off either! I have managed to reset (turn off) the phone by pressing the power + volume down buttons at the same time but it keeps coming back. Also I have managed (after its automatic restart) to enter Download Mode (power + volume down to reset and then very quickly - before it starts - volume up + power button) using the FlashTool provided by hyelton as I have used before (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476) but the phone does not seem to be USB responsive on Windows or Ubuntu. I cannot see any devices in Device Manager or partitions in Disk Management. I only saw a "QHSUSB_BULT" hidden driver in Device Manager and I have uninstalled it to see if my PC finds the device again but nothing. I had the LG drivers preinstalled (LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN312AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.12.3) but still no device detected.
I have also tried to quickly turn off the phone and before it starts to press the volume up and plug the USB on my PC to show the adb mode but again
please find me any way to sort this out, I had just recently replaced my screen, earspeaker and back cover

If you see many partitions, then you are in the 9006 mode. Make sure the 9006 drivers (and qhsusbbulk drivers too) are installed and follow my post here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...lcomm-9006-t2939627/post57984541#post57984541

This is just an extremely detailed explanation of his method.
It uses windows, no ubuntu needed.
Don't thank me, thank @tungkick if it saves your phone.

[Q] LG G2 - Security Error - Unable to do anything at all

Hello,
I tried installing Android Lollipop (Unofficial nightly build of CyanogenMod 12.0) on my LG G2 D802 model and now my phone is totally stuck in the boot. At first it shows the LG logo and then it show the LG logo and the text "Security Error" underneath. I think I've tried all combinations of "button-holding" during startup but I'm not able to access the recovery mode (or any other mode). I've tried hooking it up with the computer (Windows 8.1) but it doesn't seem to see it.
I'm pretty embarrassed by the whole situation :silly: so any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Edit:
I've made some progress, but still not enough to get me through this. For some strange reasons the hardware shortcuts seem to be different for me than what is normally advertised on this forum (and the Internet).
I'm able to get into "Hardware Key Control Mode" using Vol-Down + Power + Vol-Up... not that is really useful.
I'm also able to get into "Factory data reset" i press Vol-Down + Power, then once the LG logo shows: Vol-Down + Vol-Up.
(Other places say I should press Vol-Down + Power, then Vol-Up + Power).
However that doesn't really fix anything. It momentarily shows the green Droid being operated on (1-2 seconds) but then shuts down. Then still the "Security Error"
So now I'm wondering if there is any other key-combination to get me into download/recovery mode?
Try just holding volume up when device reboots. And make sure your attached to a usb, this should get you to download mode. To reboot hold power button until reboot.

Thanks for the reply but that doesn't work either.
I tried the following:
Holding the Volume down button (while phone is off) and plugging in the USB
Holding the Volume Up button (while phone is off) and plugging in the USB
Holding the Volume down + Volume Up button (while phone is off) and plugging in the USB
I've tried two USB ports on my computer, USB2 and USB3. All of the above leave me at the same "Security Error" screen.
I've also tried:
Powering it on while holding VolDown + Power, when LG logo comes up - release it and immediately do the same thing again and hold them down => the phone just turns off
Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button, when the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again => does nothing.
Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button, when the LG logo is displayed release both buttons and then immediately press and hold the both buttons again => does nothing.
Tried the same as above, but with Volume Up
Hoping for more suggestions!
As this is the internation version of the phone (D802) I was wondering if there might be a different combination of buttons to access the download mode or the recovery mode... anyone have a clue?
I really don't want to throw away my phone
If you have removed your laf partition to allow access to fastboot you won't be able to access download mode. Another is that you say your key combos seem to be different... Where did you purchase the phone? From eBay/Craigslist style websites or from your carrier? It's possible that you don't actually have the model you believe you have.

I did all sorts of stuff when I tried to install this (very hackish and little research) but I don't remember removing the laf partition (not that I know what that is - but I do remember messing with partitions because the phone doesn't have an external SD card). If I can't access download mode, is there anything else that I can do? Is it possible it is ruined? Really?
The phone was bought new from a respectable company here in Iceland and the sticker on the box says it's LG-D802. It has an IMEI number and a S/N (any way for me to verify based on that?)
There's a nice thread on here somewhere regarding unbricking a phone that's lost download mode. I'd link you it but I'm not near my PC ATM. You can verify model on the LG support page I believe. As for the unbricking, be prepared with an Ubuntu live CD to follow the instructions.
Edit: I noticed you said you were messing with the partitions, what exactly did you do with them? It may be of help.

I'm guessing you are referring to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
I hade downloaded Ubuntu and ran it in VMWare but it didn't seem to see any traces of my phone. I ran "ls /dev/sd*" but didn't find the phone there. Windows doesn't see anything either (e.g. device manager, nothing happens when I plug in the USB). Wonder if it would help if I ran Ubuntu directly from a USB stick? (The thread did say it was OK to run within a virtual machine)
Any further pointers appreciated!
Make sure that your phone has been passed through to VMware via the USB status icon in the lower right corner. It may indeed be easier to run it from a USB stick as you won't need to mess with the USB Virtualization layer in VMware as much. And I do believe that is the thread I was meaning.

Hi, this is me again... now posting from Ubuntu (from a USB stick). I tried the instructions given in the mentioned thread but my phone does not seem to show up at all:
Code:
[email protected]:~# ls /dev/sd*
/dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdc2 /dev/sde /dev/sdg /dev/sdh1
/dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd /dev/sdf /dev/sdh
Once I plug in the phone and execute the same command, it gives me the same results. I've executed it multiple times during the phone startup but it didn't show up for one second. I even tried executing it during the "Reset Data to factory" process... no difference. I verified the USB port was working OK by sticking (another) USB key into it and running the command and that drive showed up just fine (using ls /dev/sd*).
Love to hear more - and thanks again for helping out! :good:
Plug it into a windows machine if available and let us know how it's showing up (if at all) in device manager. Look especially for any device mentioning "qualcomm".

Hi,
I see no traces of it in Windows / Device Manager (see screenshot)
It may be a hard brick, in which case you may need to get a replacement. Sadly if you're not seeing Qualcomm devices anywhere in any of the categories in device manager, then the phone isn't entering qcom bulk mode which is bad :/ I guess that if you're worried about warranty you could possibly use the update gone bad excuse to get an RMA but I'm not sure if that will fly.

[SOLVED] LG G2 D802 can’t unbrick from security error bootloop. PLEASE HELP!

I have international D802 where I have installed a custom rom based on android 4.4.2. Yesterday I wanted to upgrade it to an android 5 rom and and mistakenly installed a new custom rom that was builded for F320S. After reboot only the fastboot mode was displayed. Then I’ve tried to repair the download mode by flash the img files, but as I’ve verified later they was not intended for LG G2 D802 32Gb version. So now if I try to enter either the download mode or the hard reset / recovery I see only the LG logo with security error.
I’ve tried a different button-combinations. Please correct me if it was wrong.
For power off I’ve pressed the power button for about 15 seconds, wait until the logo is displayed then hidden then shortly displayed again and then the display is black.
For hard reset / recovery I’ve pressed press volume down button and power button together until the LG logo appears on the screen. When the LG logo is displayed, un-pressed the power button, but keep pressing the volume down key and then pressed once more the power button. Then the LG logo is displayed again, and then below was the security error displayed.
For download mode, I’ve pressed and hold the volume up button and connected the USB cable. But after some seconds the security error was displayed and the device manager in windows didn’t showed any changes.
Is it possible to recover the phone from the security error state? Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT:
Solved in following steps.
1. Open the phone like described here: LG G2 is UNBRICKABLE NOW!
It was not hard and you don't need any special tools, only a small screw driver. Look first this both videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15krGmydqgQ&feature=youtu.be and http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2582142. The do the steps till you can access the processor chip. Ensure the battery is disconnected. By disconnecting the both left and right plates be sure to separate it from the surface.
2. Connect the phone to the PC with USB cable. Open the device manager.
3. Short the test pins on the chips, see the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiofVOqfnxw with e.g. bent paper clip till you'll see the new QHSUSB qualcomm 9006 connection on COM port. Then you'll see a lot of windows messages about to format the new founded partitions. Close them.
4. Flash an images, like laf.img,aboot.img, boot.img from your phone model using export very partition see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5b_osUTug for details and files.
5. Now the download mode is available. Remove the usb cable, enter the download mode and flash a original stock rom for your model using the LG Flash Tool 2014.
Now your phone is unbricked!
Any questions?
What is the security error on LG G2? Is it a common way to reset some settings to reset it?
Added solution in the first post. If you have any questions, please post.
Ive done till step 3, only one window poped up, and i don't get step 4, i still got the security thing...
Help I guess?

You've shorted a wrong pin, please try again step 3 untill you will see the qualcomm 9006 and not 9008 or another number.

LG Optimus L5 610 / 612 (f) - UNBRICK - Emergency Mode Problem

Hello! Same problem...
My L5 is making me crazy... It has CyanogenMod 10 nighlty. A friend of mine was using it and he tried to install the GAPPS after he did a factory reset. I have no idea what guide he used but it got soft bricked... It's constantly showing a "stopped working" message and after a while reboots by itself.
I tried to do a factory reset but it always returns to the same point, same apps installed, everything like the reset never happened. I even used CWM to reset it and it allways goes back to the same recovery point.
After a while I decided to flash a stock room but here's the problem: I can't get into emergency mode.
After reading ALL post about it I found that there's at least three ways of entering EM, (1) down VOL and plug in usb cable without battery; (2) down+up VOL and plug in usb; (3) down+up VOL + power botton.
Conclusions:
(1) - gives me a screen full of code like a command line
(2) - White screen
(3) - White screen
I've read ALL the unbrinking post on the internet, including xda, and none of them helped.
The KDZ Updater never recognizes the phone. I installed all the drivers but everytime I plug in the phone it installes the same LGE MTP drive...
Can anyone help, please?!
How to enter Emergency mode? How to flash another rom?

Urgent help please........

My lg g6 H870 bootlooping again and again. Download mode is not coming. Factory reset not working.
Please help me.
I never had to do this with my G6, but to unbrick my old LG L9 i had to invoke Download Mode manually, instead of waiting for the flash tool (connected via ADB) to perform a reboot to Fastboot to perform the actual flash process.
That never happened after upgrading from Windows 7 to 8.1 and later, but i suspected the phone's no longer supported TI OMAP SoC to be the culprit.
If i remember correctly for the real Download Mode the phone had to be switched off and while keeping volume up or down pressed(and not power, but i'm not sure) you had to attach phone to usb and if you didn't accidentially release the button during that , the phone would power up into the special D/L mode, unlike Fastboot which would be used otherwise.
Then Windows and flash tool would recognize the phone. With the original LG recovery tool performing online recovery it then worked, while with the unofficial tools and a kdz file it was trial and error for no reason.
But LG's trusted flash tool is no longer supported on the G6 since the Android 8 update, you need the proper new tool(which cannot even deal with UHD screens unlike the old one).
(The original LG flash recovery tool and the inofficial ones can both initiate a reboot- to- Fastboot AND recognize D/L mode and hopefully the current tool, too.
And you can always try to invoke Fastboot by power and vol up or down, but that was no longer an option with the L9 back then)
