[ME572c - K007] Tips and tricks - MeMO Pad 7 General

Hey !
I'll try to post the tips about the Memo in this post.
Fisrt one is easy : Hardware test mode.
While reading about Asus apps I found this page about the Padfone harware test mode and it worked on the Memo :
http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2015/01/asus-padfone-s-test-code-hardware-test.html
In case the page is moved :
- open asus calc app
- enter ".12345+" without dbl quotes (in my case it was ",12345+")
- hit ”=" (not too hard) and it will start the Asus test app :

I didn't run all the test cause I got quickly bored... It maybe useful in some situations where you may have doubts about the hardware.

Force GPU (disable GPU rendering) :
Inspired by :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877183
and http://www.asuszenfoneblog.com/2014/12/how-to-disable-cpu-rendering-on-zenfone.html#more
I tried the following :
- edit /system/lib/egl/egl.cfg
- delete first line : unless you've already used tuning apps it should be "0 0 android"
- set file access to read-only and remove those of libGLES_android.so
- reboot device
Obviously you need root

An automatic on/off feature is available on me572c called Asus Cover : it detects a magnet in the front cover of a case and turns screen on/off when open/closed.
One may convert his cover by placing a magnet in a standard (and cheaper) cover
See the place where the magnet have to be :
View attachment 3124286
It may work from the back as well, but I'll advise not to use too powerful magnets : it may damage electronic components and will interfere with the compass of the device.
The ones used for fridge decoration are flat, strong enough for the front cover detection and easy to cut it to size...

Hi @Gentaz
thx for sharing.
I like to ask, what busybox did you install? Busybox by Stericson does not work for me.
However i successfully installed Superuser 2.40 and SDMaid is reporting that Busybox 1.22.1 is running already. I wonder if there is any need to update then?

Currently on busybox 1.23
( I think I updated through the app)
and SuperSu 2.44
but I just took the versions that "came in" : I'm only using f-droid and Aptoid as markets (no gapps).
I previously had issues (had to recover since) with busybox as well : I had to install it nearly every time I rebooted, it wouldn't install in /system/bin, was slow to populate the links,..., and version "45" of supersu available on aptoid seemed bad as well :-$
No problems so far with current setup.

That's a different issue : do you need to update ? Apps should prompt you if you version is too low, updating is generally good thing but we're on unknown grounds here : you have to evaluate the risks and the benefits for yourself.
Although version 1.23 seems to have major improvements over 1.22 especially if you're using the shell (more linux-like commands) : see enormous changelog on http://www.busybox.net/, it is tagged unstable...
I'd say you're okay with 1.22 for now, hoping a ROM that would solve all those issues would come along, or a lollipop update from Asus untill 1.23 become a standard expectation from rooted apps.

We need Asus to unlock the bootloader before we'll get any custom roms, right?
Sent from my K007 using Tapatalk

Yes, although:
- worksaround may allow to use roms alongside a locked bootloader
- if unlocked, I doubt the solution would come from Asus
I don't know if it's just a matter of having fastboot enabled and issuing a "oem unlock" command (nexus style) or needs a hack...
In the meantime, I'm not waiting much for a custom ROM : it has been rooted, well debloated and works great. I don't need all the fancy tuning I may want on a phone (and god knows how much I pimped my phone) : it's only a tablet and I should keep it simple, light and fast.
What I'm hoping and waiting for is even better performance squeezed from the still exotic hardware (drivers, codecs,...) that should come with a lollipop release besides its own perf improvements over KitKat.
However it looks like that Shakalaca refers to dev ROMs, init/boot images including for memo pads on his blog 23pin.logdown.com, I can't make out all the details through the translation and learning Japanese is a long process that I don't intend to undertake in my life : I just wait and see for now...
Sent from my K007 using XDA Free mobile app

I sent an email yesterday to Asus support asking about the bootloader, if they consider ever unlocking it. I received an answer that they no longer do this on their new products. Does anyone know of a recent memo pad/zenfone that came with unlocked bootloader?

Really? They no longer unlock their devices? Well, what a coincidence! I no longer buy their products.

Old thread, but: i wonder if this is legal. I buy a device, who are they to dictate what OS I run on it?

[Q] Any recommended build.prop tweaks for the GS4 9505?

Hi Guys,
Want to get some increased performance on my phone. While the developers are making good headway getting recovery and ROMs happening I thought it would be worthwhile having a crack at a few. During my research I found the following tweaks to the build.prop file (thanks Chairshot215). It says they should work on all phones, but would appreciate a mentoring word from those who know a truckload more if these are likely to cause problems for my GS4
From http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...-performance-tweaks-updated-04-14-2012-a.html
"Hey everybody, just wanted to share the below build.prop performance tweaks. I have been using them for some time now trying different values to see what works the best. From what I have been able to tell any difference made using these tweaks is most noticeable using Stock or a Stock based Roms. Performance wise I would not expect to find the Holy Grail within these lines but they do seem to make a difference and can help with a few minor annoyances. Feel free to test them out and let everyone know what you think, at your own risk that is.
General Performance

Edit existing line,
dalvik.vm.heapsize=48m

*If you don’t keep Wi-Fi active lowering the value below the default of 90 seems to make Wi-Fi connect faster after being turned on but will consume more power if turning Wi-Fi off has been forgotten when not in range of a known network.
ro.mot.eri.losalert.delay=1000
*Should smooth out disconnects and reconnects, saving battery. Seems to brake tethering with CM7, let me know if anyone else experiences this issue.
Raises quality of images
ro.media.enc.jpeg.quality=90

*Note: I don't know why but the forum is placing spaces in the above lines that are not there. The last 3 are for data speeds but have been places here to avoid multiple explanations for the spaces. The spaces are not present when I edit and have even tried retyping them in Word and then pasting the lines in but it still shows the spaces after saving, kind of frustrating. The ends for the above lines should all be the same ending values for each line (=4096,87380,256960,4096,16384,256960). I don’t know why but for whatever reason anytime I save the post the spaces appear.
Disable error checking (Should speed things up a bit)

ro.kernel.checkjni=0
Disable sending usage data
ro.config.nocheckin=1

ro.telephony.call_ring.delay=0
Disable black screen issue after call (Thanks to Whyzor for finding why looking into the other tweaks)
ro.lge.proximity.delay=25

Disable USB Debugging icon from Status Bar. (Just the Icon, debugging remains enabled.)
persist.adb.notify=0
makes apps load faster and frees more ram. (Edit exsisting line)

ro.ril.htcmaskw1=14449
ro.ril.hsupa.category=5
Wipe both Caches in Recovery after adding or changing the above lines.
If you have used the 3g script put out by the developer of theV6 Turbocharger script then they have already been applied to your device.
Next few can be found in the CM7 Performance settings but am including them in case someone would like to use them on another Rom like Miui.
Lock Home Screen into memory
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
Use Jit (Dalvik just-in-time compiler)
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
Enable Surface dithering (Improves image quality at the cost of performance)
persist.sys.use_dithering=1
Allow purging of assets (System can free more Ram when needed)
persist.sys.purgeable_assets=1
Disable animation for faster startup
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
To apply any of the above Tweaks you will need a File Explorer with Root Permission. I use Root Explorer so the below steps are assuming Root Explorer is being used. This can also be done using ADB or QtADB; if ADB would be preferred in place of a File Explorer then you probably do not need directions for doing so. You will find instructions for using the QtADB interface below. It is also important to check that any of these lines have been included with your Rom as I know since posting these originally some have now been worked into a few custom Roms for the Triumph.
1, Navigate into the system folder.
2, Mount the folder as R/W by tapping on the Mount R/W tab found at the top of the screen.
3, Long press on the Build.prop file and select open with text editor.
4, Add desired lines at the bottom of the script.
5, Tap menu key and select save and exit. The original Build.prop will be saved as Build.prop.bak.
6, Save the file in safe place just in case you would like to switch back
7, Reboot!
Please note that on occasion a 2nd reboot was required for the tweak was applied, USB debugging notification for example. Unless noted I have not had any issues with these lines breaking anything. With that said I also wipe both the Dalvik and Cache Partitions when performing the reboot. "

[DISCUSS][XPOSED]Show off your Xposed Setup!

Welcome to the Xposed Setup Discussion!
Hello Guys, I have started this thread so that we all can share our Xposed setup.
Here are some simple rules to be followed:
(1) Name the xposed modules you use in any order separated by comma(","). Optional: You may also mention specefic settings for individual modules.
(2) Mention the ROM you are using so that other users can get an idea about the compatability of xposed modules.
(3) Conclude something about your setup like hows the performance with your modules enabled or how the modules you use make your device more useful. You may also attach screenshots to show off the changes brought by modules.
Thats it! No other rules to be followed!
Some useful Links:
Xposed Installer
Xposed Modules Repo
Here is my Setup with Xposed:
Modules - Show Keypad, Youtube Adaway.
ROM - Mahdi 2.7 07/19 Build
Conclusion - Just necessary modules that I use to get rid of the the ads in Youtube and to get the Dialpad popup automatically whenever I open Phone app.:highfive:
Gravity Box
Tinted Status Bar
Here's my set up, Mahdi rom 19/7
SwipeBack (disabled nav bar and using swipe up from bottom as a back gesture, its totally changed the android experience.)
CPUTemp in status bar, this lets me know if some apps are acting up, really handy to have a quick at-a-glance look at my cpu, if the temp is above 50-55 that means something intense is happening, 60+ something really intense such as a 3d game. 40-50 normal temp. It should be below 40 when I'm about to sleep and have it on airplane mode playing a podcast
StatusbarVolume - makes the volume panel a thin bar on the top, non obtrusive when I'm toggling it whilst doing something on the screen, this is just fantastic.
All Notifications Expanded - just my laziness
Complete Action Plus - changes the entire look/feel of the "Open With" pop up, totally customisable and really unmissable once you have it!
Burnt Toast- - shows the app icon in every toast, really cool and neat thing that's hard to miss once you have it
PlayPermissionsExposed - shows all permissions in the new version of play store
ReceiverStop and Wakelock Terminator - both these were used to stop the nlpwakelock problem, I don't remember the specifics but this helps get the phone into deepsleep
StatusbarScrollToTop - really neat feature, don't remember it being in a custom rom
TintedStatusBar - L style before L was a thing, this is what really MAKES the user interface pop
Enable BatteryStats Permission - kitkat disabled batterystats for 3rd party apps like Battery monitor, this re-enables them.
iOS7 X - changes signal/wifi positions similar to ios but keeps the notification icons. I use version 1.02 because it's stable and does what I need it to, along with clock in center.
XDictionary - app that searches for the definition of any word selection, real handy tool
SuggestionsToggle - this is relatively new but makes life easier when trying to enter urls without swiftkey trying to screw them up with spaces!
I'm Not using the usual favourite Gravitybox because most of those features are there in mahdi rom.
Overall, After a long struggle with the galaxy nexus, I can finally say I'm Happy using a smartphone every day!

[ROOT] Tweak for even longer battery time - try it yourself!

The battery life of the Z2 Tablet is already really good - but I looked for more
Aside from the usual things like debloating, Greenify etc. I found the following helpful (ROOT, custom recovery, busybox needed):
1. In the Settings of the tablet, enable "Stamina Mode" (of course, if you didn't already).
2. In the Stamina mode menu, check "Restrict performance". I have no clue what it does, but since I don't think Sony incorporates a placebo in it's firmwares I guess it does something.
You'll notice that the performance of "normal" apps (which are not games or other heavy-load stuff) will be as before.
3. Now "my" tweak:
Download a kernel tuning app - I use "Trickster Mod".
Increase the Read Ahead Buffer Size to 3072 (default: 512).
Change the I/O scheduler from ROW to DEADLINE.
Change the CPU governor from ONDEMAND to INTERACTIVE.
I now have clearly longer battery life, and at the same time operation is as snappy as ever.
Would be great if some people also test this and report.
I will try and i tell you if it works
Thanks for sharing your settings.
Will test it now.
I wonder, why no one tweaks the stock kernel.
In my opinion it would be useful to undervolt the kernel.
But maybe in future ....
Tried. When the tablet goes to deep sleep it results a "deep sleep of death". Have to force a reboot of the tab.
Oh, that's unfortunate. Are you sure you applied exactly the settings above?
I have the tweak activated for several weeks now, and never had such problems.
Seems to be dependent on the individual device...
Yes, I've applied the same settings than you've listed in the first post of the thread.
I suppose that it dependent on the individual device, as you wrote.
I've restore the settings to the default and it seems that the SOD problem are still there. I assume there is another cause.
I've seen that I also lost the access to the recovery, impossible that your settings be responsible in this case.
Investigation in progress...
Solved!
I've reroot my device and reinstall the recovery, no more problem of SOD and get now again access to the recovery.
But, reapplied your settings make the same problems, SOD and no more access to the recovery.
Seems to be dependent on the individual device...
No matters for me but other have to take care.
My device : Xperia Z2 Tab 16Gb Wifi, root, locked bootloader, last stock rom from Sony (.402), dual recovery installed (CMW, TWRP, Philz's)
Regards
I followed the op yesterday and have had no issues so far. Haven't noticed it running slower either. If you try stability test, the cpu is still running at max speed of 2265mhz so this doesn't seem to underclock the cpu when it's needed, if you run it when the battery is lower it's only 1.9ghz. I'm not sure if this is because of the restrict performance option or because it's gone into low battery mode. My low battery mode is set to kick in at 10%, so I'll test the cpu speed at 20% when it eventually drops that far. Incidentally, stabilitytest is a great way to discharge the battery if you're at 5% or something and want to run it completely down before charging.
So I've done a complete cycle and got over 8 hours of usage out of this Beast along with 3 days of sleep time. Much better than before. Thanks a lot!

Nevertheless it seems important to point out that this tweak should be applied wirh CAUTION and only with a backup (since it seems that some devices somehow have difficulties with the settings and crash).

Uh...pfff...let's see...it's a quite early model, I bought it about 2 weeks after the German launch...
Don't know where to look for the production number, there are many numbers on the tablet, none containing digits which look like a production date...

Having a custom recovery really has nothing to do with the settings in the OP. All that is really needed is root access. Most OEM builds don't usually show "all" the governors available, but a CPU app will. Understand, you run a risk that the extra governor may not be properly coded to run with the current CPU.
As with the one user with the disappearing recovery, if Sony does like several other tablet OEMs (Acer for example), they have a recovery sh file, that reflashes a stock recovery on a cold boot. Most of those root programs/CWM recoveries remove such file. Drives people crazy if they don't know.
I'll test this theory tomorrow when mine is delivered.
I just tried to follow the steps...
I had root, but for trickster mod u need root and busybox working.
And I wasn't able to install busybox without an custom recovery...
So as long as op points to trickster mod as a tweaking app I guess you have to have root+custom recovery->busybox
If there is a way to install bb without a cr just tell me.
Sent from my SGP511 using XDA Premium HD app
There are several apps on the market that let you install busybox if you have root.
Or simply install XZDualRecovery, and there you have your custom recovery.
Where is the problem? I don't understand some people...

If you notice anything missing or you use an app I don't and would like it added jut let me know
OK, so I love changing the DPI of my phone and apps. so i thought why not share what I know with others.
These are the apps that I feel are needed to be changed , so if you think i missed one just tell me and I'll add it.
another note i don't use the touchwiz launcher and different roms can use one that's modded.
of course your phone needs to be ROOTED
you can use whatever app you like to change your DPI, I used xposed app settings and would suggest the same
NOTE 4 default DPI is 640
In xposed app settings to change your system DPI you turn on
android system & system ui
and change it to your desired DPI (320 for me).
(you can also change it using the build.prop)
I guess its necessary to say this:
IF YOU CHANGE YOUR DPI IN ANY WAY, DO AS STATED BELOW
These apps you will need to change back to stock: 640
camera
camera test
com.sec.android.gallery3d.panorama360view
com.sec.android.ofviewer
com.sec.android.sviewcover
com.sec.phone
contacts
gallery
incallui
com.android.mms
phone
photo studio
s health
samsung camera filter
touchwiz home
video trimmer
not changing some can cause it to not function properly or FC
These setting are recommended if you use them:
S-Voice
- you don't have to change the dpi to stock unless you want to but if you get a FC change the screen dp to 480x854
Samsung Keyboard
- you can leave it the same as your new DPI or change it to stock DPI if the secondary icons alignment bothers you, check the box 'apply res to widgets',
Lockscreen (com.android.keyguard)
- you don't have to change this one back to stock but if you use lockscreen security the bottom will look weird
- to change it to stock, enter the stock DPI (640) and check the box 'apply res to widgets'. A reboot will be requried
Smart Remote
-change dpi back to stock and change screen dp to 320x480
Calendar
-if you use it I recommend you change it back to stock because the on screen notification size will be off
Wink app
-it will think your using a tablet and causes issues so change to stock
Swiftkey
-resize using keyboards builtin resizer
PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO HIT SAVE ON EACH ONE AND REBOOT YOUR PHONE AFTER
IF I MISSED ANYTHING OR YOU WANT ANYTHING ADDED PLEASE TELL ME
THIS ARE MY PERSONAL SETTINGS AND IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THE SAME ITS AT YOU OWN FREE WILL

The title/subject probably needs changing as it has nothing to do with what's in the post.
Disable lockscreen on trusted connection vs changing DPI.

I hate the stock DPI on this phone but I changed it using build.prop as I'm trying detox from using xposed. I want to be able to jump to lollipop right away and must pull myself away from the xposed tit since I don't see it coming to lollipop. Only issue I had changing it in build.prop is with camera. Didn't FC just didn't fill phone screen obviously. So I'll just use google camera for now. Boy do I miss that xposed though......

IMHO, lollipop is not worth it. Xposed is just too good and useful. I'm personally staying on Kitkat until Xposed comes to lollipop. And if it doesn't, then I'm not getting lollipop until I'm forced to with my next phone... in at least a year

Much appreciated..ui has very smooth now.will tell u after testing battery life soon
Like L-Speed
I appreciate the effort and I love tweaking apps, but without more detailed explanation of each tweak, it feels sketchy. For the technical minded, what are the mysterious battery tweaks for marshmallow that are activated by that toggle? and the other tweaks that don't have detailed explanations?
How does this differ from L Speed in terms of features? Are the battery saving features incorporated in this app the same as in L Speed?

Thanks for feedback !
I have it from 2 days and I noticed microlags are gone.
Just one thing: this app needs init.d support, so (I have xtrestolite that supports) I had to create a folder called "init.d" in system/etc with permissions "drwx------" and after that it created me 4 files in it.
